Down Under in Laagraven

One comment: after about 10 minutes upon arrival, we were asked: what would you like to drink? However, there was no drinks menu available; a bit sloppy! And I missed general supervision; everyone was just doing whatever they wanted. For example, 4-5 people would be standing at or near the bar washing the glasses, but they just stayed there! So, all of that could be improved… good luck.

Beautiful place, though it is unbelievable that the terrace is not smoke-free. Especially considering the number of children who come there, certainly on sunny days, after a visit to the beach. We left early because we were sitting right in the smoke during dessert.

This is really bad! What a terrible experience we had. After we were allowed to choose a table, we were subsequently forgotten. No one came to our table until we had been sitting there for a while, and the girl walking past us said: "Oh, uh hmm, are you being served yet?" Too bad, but it happens. We ordered some appetizers to share, but my girlfriend is extremely allergic to carrots, among other things. Along with some other dishes, we ordered steak tartare with piccalilly. We had indicated beforehand and asked if she would check if none of the ordered dishes contained carrots or other ingredients my girlfriend is allergic to. According to the waitress, it wasn't in anything, so she had ordered everything for us. When the food was on the table, our eyes fell on the piccalilly. There seemed to be something orange in it, so we immediately asked again if it wasn't carrot, because my girlfriend could choke on eating it. "No ma'am, it isn't in there," she was told. The waitstaff went to check it three times because we didn't trust it, until they came back after the third time and told us that it was indeed carrot. We received an apology and it was supposed to be taken off the bill. Additionally, we had the mushrooms, which were mega salty. It felt like literally biting into a teaspoon of salt! Afterwards, we still had to pay a hefty bill, and we were only asked AFTER the meal if everything was to our liking. Very clever of them! We said no and explained why, and that we found it scandalous that things went wrong multiple times with such a serious allergy. The girl said she understood, and then as we walked away, the staff seemed to be laughing amongst themselves. We didn't exactly feel taken seriously, and certainly not after all that laughing together!

Food not great, salad (Caesar) is always a favorite but unfortunately this one was really not tasty. Helped very nicely by the host upon arrival but service afterwards not very friendly and drinks took a very long time.

Few weeks ago I booked a bodyboard session for kids and myself, a day before I got a call from the reception and they told -"Hi, your reservation at 17.30 pm has only 3 people and we need min 6, the last spot we have is at 15.30-16.30 with 10 people. Then 16.30 - 17. 30 we have no bookings. We want to move your reservation and close the wave." I suggested them let's move my reservation to 16.30 pm and I will find 3 more people, so we have a required minimum of 6 people. The answer was, no, we do not want this. We will close the wave. What a nice sevice hah?! "Very customer oriented" personal and management. Shame on you @downunder!!! My kids are very very disappointed!!!

What a lovely place to eat and cool off! Family- and wheelchair-friendly. The view of the water park is amazing. I received incredibly nice assistance from Quinten at the entrance; thank you again. The rest of the service staff is also nice and helpful. I would love to come back and order the most delicious orange ginger tea with fresh herbs again.

We reserved in advance, but no table was set aside – people in front of us without a reservation took a better spot. It took 25 minutes before we received our first drink and the table with ash residue was cleaned. The staff is young and taciturn. We had dry rendang on our fries – but that was a matter of taste. I have been coming here for years, but the quality seems to be declining with the success. I am not sending this to discourage people from going there, but to encourage the venue to make a hospitality upgrade at such a beautiful location.

My goodness, it has become so expensive at Down Under.

Water skiing with a 60-minute time slot where you constantly wait for others—specifically in a group of 25—and then hit the water hard. It is irresponsible how you are not being watched when you slam into the water at 30 km/h on the other side of the lake. I found it truly irresponsible and unprofessional. I would absolutely not recommend this water park.

Had a lovely afternoon/evening and was excellently taken care of by the waitress.

Nice atmosphere, friendly knowledgeable staff good location. Food was good, but for me the chicken parmesan portion wasn't enough it needs a starter or a side dish. (But that's me)

The food was okay. BUT: Getting the children's pasta without sauce was a huge problem. When we asked the waiter to check with the kitchen if they offered it without sauce, he said he knew what the pasta looked like and that it only came with sauce. After we canceled the entire order, another employee came to us. She was very nice, and suddenly it wasn't a problem anymore. The food then took almost an hour to arrive. We wouldn't go here again, even though the poor service quality really only affected one waiter.

A wonderfully fun place to sit outside. You look out over the lake where people can water ski or tackle a water obstacle course. So there is plenty going on.

I had reserved and paid for indoor surfing on a Sunday at 11:30. Unfortunately, I had to cancel due to the flu. They were unreachable by phone, so I sent an email immediately at 8:30 and received confirmation that it had been cancelled. Now I want to reserve again, but I have to pay AGAIN. Worthless service. Yes, it states in the terms and conditions that you must cancel at least 7 days in advance for a refund. So it is indeed my own fault, but still bad service.

We came here for dinner on a Friday evening and paid €95 in total. Unfortunately, the service was very disappointing (they seem understaffed) as we had to wait about half an hour for our drinks. Our food arrived shortly after, so it seems like things moved faster in the kitchen than behind the bar and on the floor. The food was a six out of ten; just fine “normal” food, but definitely very pricey for what you get. The atmosphere and location are very nice, though. We might come back for lunch or on a quieter weekday, because it seems like they aren't handling the crowds very well at the moment.

Had a nice meal, but not exactly hospitable. They made an unnecessary fuss about the swimwear we were wearing, right next to a recreational lake. Our clothes were in their lockers, which take a euro, so we put in another euro. Furthermore, the head of service wasn't super friendly either.

Great place for hangout’s and games for groups

Today we were here with our football team: a group of 14-year-old teenagers. From the moment we entered, the boys were ordered to be quiet. The atmosphere was anything but welcoming. As for the food, we received three small bites per person: a bitterball, a tenth of a frikandel, and something else that I still don't know exactly what it was. That was quite disappointing. The most striking thing was the manager's attitude. He was visibly grumpy, while we, as parents, had actually planned to make it a pleasant afternoon. Because of the atmosphere, everyone quickly lost interest, and we decided to go home. For us, this was a one-time visit. In fact, there was even someone in our group who was considering organizing a company outing here this summer with about 65 people. That plan has been immediately scrapped. What a shame. With a little hospitality, this could have been a lovely afternoon. Instead, we are left with mostly a bad experience.

The food was inedible, there was a hair in my food, and the service was bad too. I had already made a reservation and checked in. I walked through and someone, Shi Zeb, asked me where I was going, and I had already been waiting half an hour for one cola. It was boring, no music, nothing.

It took 20 minutes for the drinks to reach my table, meaning my son could no longer swim.

At restaurant one of the waiters was serving reluctantly and even for take a picture of group she did it one really bad, even for the drinks the waiting time is too long, so it’s a nice place with a bad service.

It's been a while, but we had a very nice work kick-off event here. The food was good, but not amazing. If there was a problem, you could approach the staff and it was always resolved as best as possible.

Last Monday around 2:30 PM, we had lunch at Down Under. Unfortunately, the experience was not as desired. After ordering, we had to wait about 35 minutes for our drinks. After we pointed this out to the staff, our sandwiches eventually arrived at the table before the drinks we had been waiting for all that time. That is, of course, not how it should be. Furthermore, when the sandwiches were served, it turned out there was no cutlery included. We had to go after that ourselves as well. This gave the impression that there was little attention paid to the guests and the service. Additionally, the menu stated that there would be mint in the cocktail, but it was completely missing. That might seem like a small detail, but if something is listed on the menu, you should expect it to actually be served. Finally, several lunch dishes were no longer available. That is a shame, especially during lunch hours when you would expect the selection to be largely available. All in all, the service was slow, parts of the orders were missing, and various dishes were no longer available.

Down Under is truly a top spot to relax. It has a beautiful location right by the water, which immediately creates a pleasant and peaceful atmosphere. It is ideal for getting away from the hustle and bustle for a while. It is a lovely location to sit, enjoy a drink, and simply be outdoors. It is highly recommended, especially in good weather. I love coming back here.

Had a lovely lunch here with my children because it was Father's Day. Very nice, good food, and friendly staff who were and spoke plain Dutch. I have nothing against people from outside the Netherlands, but I was recently in Bataviastad with my daughter, and when we went to get something to eat, they started talking to me in Polish to take our order, and that is not allowed. English, French, and German are no problem, but I don't speak Polish and I'm not going to learn it either.

I have never eaten or drunk so badly there. I had to wait at least 20 minutes for a drink. And not just once, but multiple times. The staff can't help it, but everything was handled very unprofessionally. I did receive many apologies about how things should have been handled differently. I won't be going there again anytime soon.

Small portions, but really good food. The virtual assistant on the phone is absolutely horrible though. Really hard to talk to a real person in advance to see if they have coeliac friendly food.

Terrible service. We arrived, paid properly for swimming as a group of three, were there for 10 minutes, and then it started thundering out of nowhere. We asked for a refund, which we paid in cash, and the answer was no, that’s not possible. Ridiculous, to say the least…

A very nice spot if the kids want to spend a day in the water. Bring chairs, a parasol, and a cooler full of goodies, and you can spend a whole day by the water. (It can get really super crowded on nice days, though). Water park, nicely conceived.

We had a team-building event and drinks there. We received excellent service; everyone is very friendly and helpful. Definitely recommended!

Great food for a reasonable price.

Last weekend, we went to Down Under in Nieuwegein to celebrate that one of my friends is about to become a father. We were a group of 12 and enjoyed footgolf, beach volleyball, and the water park. Afterwards, we rounded off the day with a delicious dinner. A nice quote had been prepared in advance. For a very reasonable price, we were able to arrange all the activities *and* the food. The staff was incredibly friendly, helpful, and always quick to respond whenever we had questions. All in all, we had a great day. Definitely recommended for groups looking for an active and fun outing!

Last week, we had drinks with 20 colleagues and an extensive selection of appetizers. Fantastic atmosphere, and despite the huge crowds, we received excellent service. The appetizers were tasty and varied. Highly recommended!

Nice place and location, but the food is disappointing. I had a club sandwich but it was completely burnt black; I asked for another one and received one, but no apology or any compensation. Not very polite. The previous times I've been here, the toasted sandwich and the steak were also disappointing, unfortunately.

Afternoon lunch with my aunt. Lovely young lady/waitress who served us politely. It is quite noisy outside, probably quieter inside. Nice weather and beautiful location by the water. Food portions were good. Definitely worth it.

The atmosphere is good in a beautiful location, the food perfect as always; I have been there multiple times. I think there was a shortage of staff today. I had to wait almost an hour between the starter and the main course and had to ask about it myself twice, only to be dismissed with an insignificant answer, unfortunately.

We consider it a disadvantage that you were not reachable by phone, so we could not let you know that we would be arriving later.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ We had a delicious meal at Down Under last time. The menu is surprising and varied, with beautiful dishes that are truly prepared with care. Everything that was served looked fantastic and tasted just as good. The staff is incredibly friendly and hospitable; you immediately feel welcome and well taken care of. The location completes the picture; it is truly a great place to sit, especially in nice weather. A little tip: have the wine tasted first 😉

I was here with 3 people, really a top spot. First we went bodyboarding, really great, then waterskiing and that was fine, and the water park was really fantastic, you could do whatever you wanted, no strict rules like not jumping off your stomach or anything, and very nice people. Afterwards we had something to eat, lemonade, a bit of a taste of garlic, but the food was super, highly recommended.

Bavette without vegetables and with a meager side of fries. The fish stew was well-filled with fish in itself, but unfortunately, both dishes were served lukewarm. Additionally, we found the sangria to be heavily watered down with water or sparkling water. It was a liter for two people, but to be honest, we hardly noticed it. We asked for an ice cream for a 7-year-old child. The host then pointed out a dessert for €11.50, even though we had already seen that on the menu ourselves. To us, the question was quite clear: a regular ice cream for a child is different from a dessert for €11.50. Unfortunately, the host did not seem to grasp this, or pretended not to understand. We found that very disappointing. For that reason, we did not order cheese, coffee, or anything else. The service could really be better, and we ultimately found the dishes mediocre.

This swimming pool has opening hours that are far too limited. I don't understand why the municipality lets them manage this. Only when the weather is rated 8 and on limited days. In the past, it was actually possible to access the beach when it wasn't open. I thought that was fairer. It is just nature, after all. Normally I get a season pass, but I was able to use it so little last year that I decided to go to another beach further down the road this year. Very poor service!

Nice place! The food is tasty, but not always that warm. The location is nice and you sit wonderfully by the water in the sunshine.

Very cozy place. I think it gets really busy in the summer. But don't order a Rendang sandwich, because it looks and tastes like nothing. I think they should try a Rendang sandwich from Tante Lien on the Oude Gracht in Utrecht sometime, then they'll know what a sandwich like that is supposed to be like.

Down Under in Nieuwegein is a nice spot with plenty of parking. The restaurant has a cozy layout, and when the weather is nice, there is a really lovely beach/boho vibe. The service is really excellent: attentive, friendly, and hospitable. You definitely feel welcome here. The food and drinks are fine and fit well with the relaxed atmosphere of the location. All in all, a lovely place to enjoy yourself, especially on a sunny day.

We came for the indoor surfing. Definitely recommended, partly due to the friendly staff and the fun activity. The indoor surf track was extremely loud, though. If you are easily bothered by noise, bring waterproof hearing protection. Earplugs were sold out during my visit, so bring your own.

Exceptionally bad food (2 x Rib Eye). Tough, not medium (partner), no vegetables with any main course, and after sending it back to the kitchen we got the same meat back. Still didn't meet expectations. Could only eat 30 grams out of 250 grams, too tough, partner likewise. Returned everything and left it. Yuck! Ordered an extra salad, uninteresting, pieces of chicken, lettuce, and tomato. Cancelled reservation for the Easter brunch (6 pers.). Waitress (16 or 17 years old?) said she would "pass it on" to the cook. Haven't heard from them since, even though they have my contact details. We won't be having lunch here again either. Bye Down Under! The bill? €130.70 for 2 people.

Down Under is a little piece of Australia in the heart of the city! The food is tasty, the service is friendly, and the ambiance is super cozy. Definitely the place for a nice beer and a burger. Their pulled pork and ribs are a must-try. Worth five stars!

Unfortunately, I got sick the evening before the activity, and they are not being helpful. A voucher or exchange is not possible. You lose your money immediately. Even 1 star is too much. Thank you.

I had a kids' party here for my son's party. Indoor bodyboarding, the kids loved it. It was fantastic from the very first reception! Friendly staff, good explanations and guidance. The instructors are super enthusiastic!

The food was delicious. I don't eat meat, but the Caesar salad was easily adapted. Lovely spot by the water!

We had a really fun and active day at Down Under indoor surfing today. The instructors were great and enthusiastic! After a bet, the boss even showed us a cool trick. We had a great time! Lunch was delicious!

Last Saturday we went indoor surfing here. We had a great time, and the instructors were fantastic!

What a load of rubbish!! I've never felt so unwelcome. Upon arrival, we first had to wait for two employees to finish their conversation, only to then sit at our table for 12 minutes waiting to be helped (not that it was that busy), but the service just didn't come. The person who greeted us walked right past us at least ten times as if we weren't even there... Then a table next to us, who arrived after us, was helped. At that point, we just got up and left, never to return. What unfriendly staff!!

We did an hour of indoor surfing. It was a really fun activity, and we had great instructors. Definitely recommended. We didn't eat there, so I didn't give it any stars.

It's a very nice location by the water, and there's free parking available. The atmosphere is lovely; you can sit outside in the summer. The welcome and service were good, especially the young gentleman who served us; he was polite and attentive. However, I can't say the same about the food. The presentation is nice, but the portions are very small for the price. Bread isn't served with the meals. I ordered an eggplant dish, but the eggplant inside was almost completely undercooked. I liked the ravioli with pumpkin sauce; maybe it would have been tastier with a little Parmasan cheese inside.

Went bodyboarding here for the first time today. €28.50 per person for one hour. Or so you'd think. Nowhere does it say you'll share the lane depending on how busy it is. I checked the terms and conditions and the website. There were 14 (!) of us on one lane. Since only two people were allowed on the lane at a time, we were each on the lane for maybe eight minutes. That's an expensive eight minutes. Had I known this beforehand, we would NEVER have gone there.

Nice spot by the water. The food is good, but the portions are small for the price. Salads are served on small plates without a piece of bread. Friandises are so small you almost choke on them.

Regular visitor for after-work drinks and dinner. Fun place, best with good weather.

An hour of bodyboarding with four teenage girls. A great experience, but with one caveat: 14 people on the course is a bit much. You don't get nearly enough turns for the money you paid.

We had a wonderful meal with our group of eight. Sitting eight of us at a round table was lovely. The previous decor felt more cheerful and relaxed, but the current interior is a bit duller.

Had dinner here with a team. A great concept with shared food. You choose from a variety of dishes to enjoy together. But "regular" individual dishes are also available. Friendly service in an environment that's a mix of Scandinavian and beach club. Highly recommended.

What a surprisingly good experience! Delicious food, very attentive service, and a simple atmosphere. We had several special requests, and each time they were handled very courteously and adequately. Everything was done with a smile, correctly, yet relaxed. The food was delicious and well-balanced, and there's a special menu for allergies.

My son unfortunately broke his arm before the planned birthday party. They were friendly and very flexible, and we were able to reschedule. Excellent service!
