The starter was surprisingly nice and tasty, the dessert was perfect but the main course was not good. The meat was very bad, it was hard, half of it was not eaten, there were 4 of us, 3 people, it was inedible, tough, I reported it but nothing was done about it, if they had just responded to this, they would be doing well, it is a shame for such a highly regarded restaurant.

Super fun to do, but the reception and information upon arrival were very brief, and we didn't feel very welcome. The guidance during the walk was fine.

Great location. In the summer, it's lovely to sit outside and watch the water sports. But even when the weather's bad, it's wonderfully cozy inside. And last but not least: the food is excellent!

We had a fantastic event at Down Under! After a warm welcome from our host, we were divided into groups for various activities, and there was truly something for everyone. The atmosphere was fantastic, and the food was delicious. Everything was taken care of down to the last detail. All in all, a very successful event; highly recommended for companies or groups looking for a fun and well-organized day!

The children's party was great fun. The boys were well-supervised by two girls. One was a bit more patient than the other. There was some real irritation at times. This needs to be supervised, as the children present noticed. The food was excellent. It arrived on time. And the kids were allowed to get their own drinks.

We've eaten here several times now and it's always delicious. The staff are super friendly and helpful. Highly recommended!

What a terrible afternoon we had here. We came eager to bodyboard, but just before we were to start, we discovered we'd been assigned to a group of 13 children around eight years old who were having a birthday party. No advance warning, no notification when booking – nothing. When I politely pointed this out to reception, I received an extremely rude response: it would be "at our own risk" and they "couldn't do anything." No attempt to offer any assistance or find a solution. Ultimately, we decided not to participate because it simply didn't feel right for two thirty-year-olds to disrupt a children's party by standing in the middle of it. The manager later offered to refund only 20% of the amount, claiming that the "system wasn't technically possible" to refund the money or issue a voucher. As if that were our problem. In short: a complete waste of time and money, with staff who showed no understanding or customer service whatsoever. If you're looking for a fun experience or a professionally organized activity, please stay away from this place.

We came to try indoor surfing. I asked beforehand if this was safe for beginners, and they confirmed it was. But this is so clumsy. To my great surprise, there was no helmet or other protection (because the surface was supposedly soft enough), the instructors didn't go beyond helping me get on my board, and they were more interested in the end of their workday than anything else. I've been home for six weeks now with whiplash after falling off my board; the surface was far from soft...

The children thoroughly enjoyed the bodyboarding party with food. The selection of snacks wasn't plentiful for halal eaters, but the service and activity made up for it. Thanks for the great service! We had a wonderful time.

Friendly, helpful service. I know better than anyone that serving large groups isn't always fun. It was the right person with the right group. One small point for improvement is that the side dish (fries) comes at the same time as the main course. Most people were already finished. But if that's all it takes 😉

We came to surf the indoor wave. Seven brave guys subjected ourselves to the roar of the artificial wave, and we did surprisingly well! It was challenging, fun, and a good full-body workout! Recommended for everyone. Small tip: bring earplugs (custom-made hearing protection). It's really noisy inside. Not surprising with those jets :)

We went for ladies night session for wakeboarding. I enjoyed the atmosphere, the staff was very friendly, encouraging and helpful - Kate gave lots of tips and was very involved in the process. I highly recommend

A delicious, varied menu perfect for a group meal. We went for dinner with 10 adults and 2 children to celebrate something. The menu isn't too complicated and offers enough variety to accommodate the 3 vegans in the group, as well as the children. The location is great because it's situated on a small lake with lots of activities, from beach volleyball to water skiing. Seating indoors and outdoors was no problem. The staff is friendly and very helpful. The price is definitely reasonable.

What a disappointment, and what unfriendly staff. Just when you think you're going to have a drink with a friend, there's supposedly no room, not even on a large lounge sofa where only two other girls were sitting. We could easily have sat on the other side of the sofa. They're completely unwilling to think along or find a suitable solution. No, they clearly haven't heard of sharing = caring. A big no for me, I won't be coming back.

Nice place for business/private events

We celebrated our son's birthday party at Down Under in Nieuwegein, celebrating his 11th birthday. The boys went bodyboarding, and they loved it! They received clear instructions and excellent guidance, so everyone quickly picked it up and had a blast. The venue was neat and clean, and despite a large party with 700 guests going on at the same time, everything went smoothly and was well-organized. A fantastic party at a great location. Thanks for taking such good care of us!

The sunny terrace is fantastic because you can see plenty happening on the water even if the conversation were to stop. The activities here are, of course, particularly exciting and suitable for (almost) all ages. Due to limited kitchen staff, a more limited menu is available. Everything else met expectations. The food quality is excellent, perhaps a bit overpriced.

Nice location with a waterfront terrace. The food was warm, but not great. A main course with a simple burger over 20 euros should be a full course. It wasn't, and we had to order additional meals. Not a great experience, and not all the staff seem to pay attention to that.

A place you go for the ambiance. The food (satay) tasted fine, but two chicken thigh skewers with some sauce, no vegetables, and no fries for 20 euros was overpriced, as was the green iced tea for almost 4 euros. It was nice to sit at, but it was truly overpriced.

The private wakeboarding lesson was very enjoyable and educational! The instructor was very pleasant and skilled.

What a fantastic atmosphere and such friendly and welcoming staff! Next time, we'll have a nice meal while the kids enjoy bodyboarding. We'll definitely be back from The Hague.

The food was tasty, but it was scandalously small. My girlfriend had a sea bream, €20, which was a tiny piece of fillet, with nothing else on the plate. For her, it was less than half a chicken breast with a few mushrooms. This amount doesn't even come close to a main course. Furthermore, we were constantly asked if we wanted to order anything else. All in all, it was a disappointing experience.

The cable park staff are very friendly and helpful. I wouldn't recommend trying wakeboarding on your own without experience and lessons, as I did. But I do recommend trying the kneeboard. I also went there for a company outing with the company I work for, and the food was really good. A guaranteed top-notch experience. Down Under gets a 9+ from me!

The food was okay, but nothing special. For example, the satay in a bowl isn't very practical, and the amount of casava crackers was too much. The chicken satay (or the sauce) was very salty. The service was 100% excellent, and the location is definitely recommended.

It's getting on the expensive side.

Lovely beach club, with some nice wine. Yet the Classic Club and Smokey Salmon bagel were made with stale bread. The Classic Club was 80% salade with loads of dressing, little chicken en the bread was instead of toasted burned on the grill plate. The flavors didn't make for a good sandwich. Smokey Salmon toppings were nice but also made on an old bagel.

Disappointing experience despite beautiful location A few weeks ago, we had a staff outing at Down Under. The communication beforehand was very pleasant, and the location itself is beautiful and offers great potential for a successful day. However, unfortunately, the overall experience was disappointing on several counts. The game management for our afternoon activity program left much to be desired: awkward and inappropriate jokes were frequently made, which created an uncomfortable atmosphere within the group. Not exactly professional, especially in a business setting. For dinner, we opted for shared dining in three rounds. The food itself was tasty and varied, but there was very little – several colleagues said they went home hungry. The options for vegetarians were downright meager: only fries or a small portion of poorly seasoned chili sin carne were served with their main course. This despite the fact that we had informed them weeks in advance that a large part of our group was vegetarian and had been assured that this would be accommodated. The most serious issue, however, was a colleague's allergy to raw tomatoes, which we reported several times beforehand and on the day itself. Despite this, things went wrong on several occasions. Even a "separately prepared" bowl contained chopped tomatoes – fortunately, this was discovered in time by the colleague herself, otherwise it could have had serious consequences. Our concerns were raised on-site and later in writing, but unfortunately, they were dismissed with a curt, nonsensical response, without further follow-up or apology. In short: although the location itself is beautiful, we cannot recommend this place for groups, especially if there are dietary requirements or allergies. We will not be booking another outing here.

There were five of us and we had tickets for bodyboarding. We didn't have much time, so we received suggestions for dishes that could be served relatively quickly. It was perfectly organized, and the food was delicious!

A truly terrible experience at Down Under Nieuwegein. From the moment we walked in, we were treated incredibly rudely. We were simply shoved into a corner, as if we weren't important, and even had to drag chairs over ourselves to sit down. The service was completely unwelcoming, and it felt like we were just an inconvenience. For a place that claims to be so grand, you'd expect at least a modicum of customer service. Absolutely not recommended; we'll never be back. We paid twice and won't get our money back.

I find it a real shame that we paid €5 to sit on the beach until 7:00 PM, only to be told at 5:00 PM that we had to leave at 6:00 PM because it was less crowded. We asked if we could stay at the agreed-upon 7:00 PM, but that wasn't allowed. We also weren't offered any compensation for the hour we missed. It's a real shame.

Delicious food! The view and atmosphere on the terrace were also fantastic. Portions weren't for the faint of heart and were quite pricey, considering you also have to order fries or vegetables.

The restaurant was great! The service was also very good, and I felt welcome. The only downside was the help with wakeboarding. The guy was disinterested and gave tips to beginners in an unfriendly way. He wasn't really interested. Such a shame! It makes your first time wakeboarding so much fun. I wouldn't go back for that reason.

It was a lot of fun, we went wakeboarding, but at the last bend there are no instructions on how to go through it and it is quite difficult, so almost everyone fell there and hurt themselves quite a bit.

The staff was incredibly helpful in teaching us how to wakeboard. We ordered nachos on the terrace. Delicious, but very awkward to eat without cutlery.

Bodyboarding is fantastic and the instructors are great! My children had a memorable experience. If you book two hours, they're not consecutive. Halfway through, you'll join a new group, and the instructors will explain everything again. But that doesn't spoil the fun :) Unfortunately, the restaurant isn't quite as good. The chicken satay was burnt (not freshly cooked), and there's no children's menu. The children ate their fill of snacks/appetizers and fries. I had to wait too long for a third drink, so I skipped it and went to the staff member to pay the bill. Sorry, so no tip :( There's also a man-made beach by a lake. Super fun and relaxing!

Well, what can I say? Nice place, food is fine, but... the staff isn't exactly happy with their work, and it shows. They can't crack a smile, they're grumpy, and the manager is practically standing guard with a grumpy expression. Not very inviting at all. And then you're craving a nice, fizzy soda, and you get a draft soda with very little carbonation, such a shame.

Everything was perfectly arranged. We arrived with nine people, with a reservation, and were served promptly. We had a delicious meal.

The location and the food were fantastic. We had made a reservation in advance and were assigned a sunny table upon arrival. The parasol couldn't be extended. When we asked for a shady spot, they didn't consider us and told us there were other people waiting. The table service could also have been better. Drinks were forgotten, and we had to ask for cutlery. All in all, we enjoyed the company.

We didn't eat or drink, mind you. On August 10th, the two of us had a private hour-long wakeboarding lesson. The wakeboarding itself was absolutely fantastic. The distribution of supplies was super friendly, the people at the counter were very nice. But our instructor clearly wasn't into it anymore; we were the last ones left for him that day. My son and I joked about it, saying we'd try to make it as pleasant as possible for him. To no avail. The man couldn't have looked more bored, honestly. He occasionally let me mess around in the water for a bit too long before the rope with the handle was directed back in my direction because he wasn't looking. I wasn't very good at it (not his fault). My son was. He had a bit more words for it. So a tip for the bored instructor: if you don't feel like it, make something of it. Or, if possible, trade with someone. For yourself and the clients. You'll automatically have a more enjoyable day yourself, thanks to funny or pleasant interactions. Besides, people pay for this; make sure customer service is on your resume. You're providing a service, after all. I'll definitely give it another try, but I'll find someone else. It's a shame, because Down Under is a truly wonderful, beautiful place.

The activity itself was fun, and we had a lovely afternoon. Unfortunately, there was no flexibility to change the reservation, even immediately after it was made. That felt a bit strict and unnecessary. Nevertheless, we still enjoyed the activity.

The staff were friendly, patient, and genuinely passionate about the sport. Whether you’re a beginner or experienced, their teaching style makes you feel confident and excited to get out on the water. The facilities are top-notch — clean, well-organized, and clearly designed with both comfort and fun in mind. After an amazing wakeboarding session, I headed to their restaurant, and wow — the food was just as impressive as the water sports. Fresh, flavorful dishes, excellent service, and great attention to detail made the meal a perfect way to round off the day.

We were warmly welcomed upon arrival. They focused heavily on upselling when taking orders. I found the food (The Eye Steak) rather bland. After the main course was served, we were completely ignored. No drinks were taken. At some point, it got cold on the terrace outside, so we were moved inside. There, we received absolutely no attention. We had to get up ourselves to ask for the dessert menu and then again for the bill.

We booked a private lesson for two people and had lessons with Jabbe! It went really well, he taught clearly, and we had a great time! Afterward, we had lunch in the sunshine with a relaxed, beachy atmosphere.

My kids spent an hour bodyboarding. I was disappointed they didn't spend much time on the board. With a group of six, you only have a maximum of 10 minutes to spend on the board. That makes the activity relatively expensive and somewhat disappointing.

There is plenty for children to do to have a fun day.

Here you will find everything that is wrong with the Netherlands: man made lake passing off as nature, rude and useless wait staff, overpriced food that you already have eaten at 100's of other Dutch restaurants, and worse of all, diners that think that 'this is living'.

This afternoon we had a lovely lunch with four of us in Down Under. A beautiful location and wonderful weather. Apparently, the restaurant is doing very well, partly because there aren't enough restaurants in the Houten area compared to the number of residents. The food was delicious, but the portions were exceptionally small for the price. Two small, wholesale chicken satay skewers for €20, and then you had to order the fries (with rosemary, herbs, and special mayonnaise) separately for €5.50. In the end, you just got regular fries with Remia mayonnaise 🤣, but it does look nice on the menu. With these prices, you naturally expect appropriately good service, but it was SO BAD! They served a plate in front of another guest twice, and the same thing happened with drinks. No cutlery with the main course, and the same again with dessert. The goal of making as much money as possible on all fronts and then also saving on well-trained staff? Reading the standard guest reviews, which say they'll take it to the next meeting, little has changed in the past five years. For the price/quality of the food and the inexperienced service you really don't need to go here 😬

The food was terrible today! I ate it last night and it was fine, but this time the Asian soup was way too salty, and the fish smelled over it. The bread was tough with the croquettes, and the decaf was really watery. I don't complain easily, but despite the good service, I won't be back for the food.

The price is very high for what you get.
