Dutch Maritime Pub in Rotterdam Centrum

Wow!!! We stopped at Matelief for dinner by pure chance and we left after an excellent meal so satisfied ❤️. Everything was WOW (the food, the staff, the atmosphere, the decor)! What can I say about the octopus, it was delicious (I would have ordered a slightly larger portion). The service was great. I would definitely come back!!?

We went there to eat and were a little disappointed with the dishes and their size. For the price, we felt we didn't get much in return. The food was good, though.

Cozy terrace with seating in the sun or shade. Friendly service. The bread with crispy chicken is truly delicious. An extensive menu with truly tasty and healthy dishes.

Very disappointing experience – never again! We ordered just one Bittergarnituur and ended up waiting over 1.5 hours for it. When the food finally arrived, they brought us three platters, even though we had only ordered one. Apparently, the staff didn’t speak proper English and first forgot our order, then messed it up completely. When we tried to explain the situation, they still made us pay for everything, including the food we never ordered. No apology, no understanding, nothing. And to make matters worse, the food didn’t even taste good. Absolutely unacceptable service. Would not recommend — especially if you don’t speak Dutch.

Great discovery. Quality food and special dishes. Well presented dishes and in line with the price. Excellent solution of the fire in the center of the table.... It creates atmosphere and on cooler evenings allows you to dine outside anyway. Well done!!! Recommended!!

Nice place to go to in the old harbour, but make reservations on sunny days its packed. Good place to have a drink and some bites with friends or family.

utter disappointment. the staff was not engaged. the food was just plain bad: “sandwich” with overly fried chicken with tons of sauce it can give you a heart attack. mini burgers on sweet (?) dry brioche with tons of mayonnaise and just 1 leaf of salad + couple of cucumber slices + halloumi. this shouldn't cost ~15€. these 2 easy sandwiches took 20 mins to make. it was long, not tasty, not nice playing, not to mention that it's not healthy. we will not come back.

In the summer I sat on the terrace with my girlfriend, ordered small dishes and it was delicious! Fresh pesto and delicious fries with truffle mayo, really recommended!!

Wonderful service, food and the possibility to sit next to the harbour with a nice warm fire table to keep you toasty! I’d eat here every night if I didn’t reside on the other side of the world usually. Highly recommend!!

Delicious food, amazing location, and friendly staff.

We came here after booking with a 50% discount. The vibe was a bit strange, very loud and lots of tables crammed very close together on the terrace. It took quite a while to be served by the waiters (seemed there was one person running around and avoiding eye contact for a long time!). The concept is shared dining (approx 2 dishes per person). The food itself was quite nice - however I've marked it as 3 stars as we ordered a lobster curry and it definitely was not lobster. They didn't inform us about any ingredient substitutions but when it was served we discovered it was with a type of white fish with skin (not sure what type, but definitely not lobster!). So my advice is not to order the fake "lobster"! The prices are very high (if we paid full price we would have paid around 40-60 euro per person!).

Cozy place right at the Old Harbor. Staff very friendly and attentive, when it rains you sit protected under large umbrellas. If desired, coffee is also available with oat milk ♡ which is rare. The food was very tasty and the plates on the neighboring tables also looked very attractive. Clear recommendation

We went without having many references and left satisfied. We ordered different toasts to try a little of them all and they were very delicious. Maybe it was a little complicated to share them but we would repeat what we ordered without a doubt. We also had potatoes with truffle sauce to share, delicious, but we stayed with the house sweet potatoes (sweet potato) to which they invited us, quite a detail on their part. They surprised us by being made from sweet potato since we had not tried them and we liked them a lot. As for the service, very attentive and it was appreciated that the waiter knew Spanish.

Good and delicious food, I recommend the eggplant caponata. Lovely sofas and chairs to sit on, patio heating available and a big round of applause for the great staff, especially the gentlemen who worked on August 10. Nice view too by the way.

They forgot that the company had reservations. It was all quite messy.

We each sit at the window drinking a glass of wine or a poma, strangely enough we only ordered food for the first time today, nice big bread and good herb butter, staff really a big 10! So nice how the staff interacts with other tents and guests! Really delicious

The lobster ravioli (large size) and brisket mini burgers were delicious. Fries were alright. The beer from the tap and flat white were good. Service staff was friendly. Overall would recommend having lunch here despite the limited items on the lunch menu.

The restaurant was great, it had many options of food and drinks and the overall vibes were great. We ate with a big group and the service was therefore not super good, as the obers would call out “I guess” when asking where the food was. Overall, it was a good restaurant.

Fake bitterballen, I asked if it was vegetarian and they said no (they try to make everyone vegetarian)

They allowed us to reserve on a busy game night, and when we arrived they already arranged our table with a high chair for our baby. Bas was there to give our baby a coloring book and a straw. Food was excellent and atmosphere nice. Highly recommended, great with kids. Thanks Bas!

Because I wanted to try a draft beer other than HEINEKEN, but I didn’t know how to choose, so the bartender let me try it. I was so happy😁 I finally chose "Brand weizen" and it tasted delicious👍 The BBQ burgers are also delicious Friendly and friendly service. Highly recommended. He also took the initiative to ask if he wanted to take a photo with us, which was very considerate ❤️

One of the many catering establishments located in the Oude Haven with a spacious terrace that is especially popular among young people and is busy after school and university, together with the many tourists who visit Rotterdam, especially at the weekend. A big plus is the fact that Matelief's outdoor terrace is also located directly on the pier of the Oude Haven, so that you have the feeling of being at a "harbour" with all its moored boats.

Helped by Tess, a nice spontaneous lady. Got some nice tips for the rest of the city. Delicious food and nice terrace. We will be back!

2 stars because of food. Atmosphere and service were good but portion of food for the price was very very less. Veg options are available but mains food quantity was super less. A small cauliflower main dish was around €13 and in picture you can see the quantity. You expect this portion size when going to a fine dine place but not to a casual restaurant. Even chickpea stew for €11.5 was served less. Cauliflower was suppose to be with cheese but it was very dry from top and only had little cheese at base totally opposite of what dish name was. Also cauliflower was served in a bowl instead of a plate which made it bit difficult to eat, it was a task to cut it with knife and in this process I ended up making too much noise. All together this is good place for drinks and bites but not for lunch.

Great place, but slow service. Staff very friendly and had a nice conversation, but it took 10 minutes for us to be helped. Sat outside and thought it's busy inside so give it a miss. Went in after 10 minutes and asked for service. There were two guests inside. A real shame. More proactive towards guests and then top business.

Beautiful place and attentive service. Unfortunately we did not like the food. The pumpkin burgers had a dominant herb sauce, which very much determines the taste. Not tasty. The iberico consisted largely of a fat edge. Sweet potato fries were tasty, not very hot anymore. Parmigiana was ok. But unfortunately not a second time in terms of food for us.

Unfortunately a bad experience. Service was horrible. Waited for more than 20min without any service. Even though they saw us and we asked multiple times to order. Hopefully the waitres just had a bad day.

The food... oh my the food! It was heavenly! Two visits in 3days because our first visit was a reveletion! The fish was cooked to perfection in delicious sauce. The prawns were everything I dreamed of. All of this for a very reasonnable price(prawns+ large bowl of fries:17.5€), friendly staff and very nice spot in Rotterdam, by the Witte Huis and the Marina, beautiful view!

Vorige week met een vriendin gegeten bij Matelief. Wat vanaf de eerste seconde opvalt, is de voortreffelijke gastvrijheid en originele kaart. In de bediening stonden een jongedame en jongeman die het echt heel goed deden! Ook het eten was van hele hoge kwaliteit tegen een prima prijs. We waren heel blij met onze keuze voor het restaurant. Het enige wat negatief opviel, was die extreem dominante 'funky' achtergrondmuziek. Althans, het stond zo hard dat het geen 'achtergrondmuziek' meer was, maar gewoon keiharde muziek. Als je hier niet voor in de stemming bent, gaat dat enorm op je zenuwen werken. We wilden daardoor eigenlijk weggaan na het voorgerecht, maar omdat we het toch erg naar ons zin hadden, heb ik -heel brutaal- aan de jongedame in de bediening gevraagd of er misschien andere muziek op mocht. "Heeeeel graag, mevrouw!" Ze zette de muziek ook veel zachter waardoor er ineens een veel relaxtere sfeer hing. Dat paste zóveel beter! Maar al met al heeft de Oude Haven er een geweldige topzaak bij!

Matelief Das Restaurant liegt mitten in Rotterdam an einem der schönsten Plätzen von Rotterdam dem Oude Haven. Der Außenbereich liegt direkt am Wasser. Das Lokal wurde neu eröffnet und ist super stylisch modern und gemütlich eingerichtet. Es verfügt über einen schönen großen Außenbereich direkt am Wasser. Das Essen und die Getränkeauswahl ist gut. Der Service ist gut, das Personal freundlich. komme gerne wieder Gruß Alexander

We were staying close by so decided to visit the old harbour area on the first evening. It was pretty busy and as we only wanted a drink and a dessert we wandered around enjoying the atmosphere. A waiter from Matelief asked if he could help and we were shown inside which was lovely and cool and also smoke free. We had a great view without being surrounded by other diners. We opted for decaf coffee and desserts: one enormous portion of a very tasty Dutch apple pie and a silky smooth piece of gluten free chocolate tart, both decorated with a couple of fresh raspberries. Can’t believe that I didn’t take photos of our desserts! Most people were sitting outside so it was relatively quiet inside with just background music playing. The staff were all lovely- friendly and smiling. It is definitely somewhere that I would like to visit again.

Onbeleefde serveerster "gooide" met de glazen, keihard op de tafel zetten toen ze de bestelling had gebracht, en had lelijke grimas op haar gezicht van afschuw zeg maar. Trouwens niet alleen met ons, we hebben haar daarna geobserveerd en was zo meerdere klanten an het behandelen.

Lekker gezeten en lekker gegeten. Goede service, en nette zaak.

Au bord du vieux port, joli endroit. Fauteuils confortables. Très bon plats bien épicés. Les portions ne sont pas énormes mais suffisantes. A savourer car c'est très bon.

Voor het eerst 'iets' gedronken bij de Dutch Maritime Pub op het zonovergoten terras aan de Oude Haven in Rotterdam. Deze kennismaking is ons goed bevallen. Er is een ruime sortering bieren van de tap. Uiterst vriendelijke, adremme en vrolijke, doch attente bediening. Bieren best prijzig, maar ze zijn het waard. Al met al een goed bevallen kennismaking. Een volgende keer gaan we niet alleen wat drinken, maar ook eten.

Prima hap voor een redelijke prijs. Runderburger met Friet. Nieuwe eigenaar nieuwe keuken en toiletten. Schoon netjes en vriendelijk personeel. Uitgebreide bierkaart en 14 verschillende bieren op de tap.
