Eetcafé d'Ouwe Brandweer in Centrum

After a pleasant evening at WinterWelvaart, we decided to relax and enjoy a delicious meal. We walked past Eetcafe d'Ouwe Brandweer. It had a cozy atmosphere and friendly staff. We decided on the cheese fondue, served with vegetables and fries. Unfortunately, it wasn't recommended; the cheese was crumbly and definitely not fondue. And unfortunately, the fries weren't cooked through either. Perhaps we weren't there at the right time. It was very busy! We mentioned this to the staff, but unfortunately, no action was taken. The atmosphere and setting were fine. But the cheese fondue should be taken off the menu.

It was my first time eating here. It has a nice decor, but the acoustics are poor. The sound echoes throughout the room. The service is very helpful and fast. The food itself is adequate, although it could be better for the price. It's served with fries and salad, but the amount you get is meant for one person, while you're actually paying for two. You can order more, but that costs extra.

We probably didn't come to this restaurant on the right day today. The food wasn't fantastic, and the service was poor. We received the wrong order, and it all took a very long time. We arrived at the restaurant at 5:00 PM, and there weren't many customers yet. Finally, we asked the staff when our food would arrive because we were going to a movie. It arrived within 5 minutes. The food wasn't particularly special, despite being quite expensive. A tiny portion of fries for two people. A real shame. We've been here many times in the past, but today wasn't a success.

The location is lovely by the one of the most busy street of Groningen. I ate here also before around 7 years ago. This time came for a beer and snack. The service and the staff is very nice. The nachos looked great, however the sauce and the nacho chips were a bit dull unfortunately. Everything was put on top and bottom was empty.

Good service, just a shame about the food. Could have used it to fill a hollow tooth. Now off to the snack bar.

The food is delicious. But you shouldn't go there too hungry. Portions are really small, but the price isn't.

Cozy restaurant Great service and truly delicious food. Recommended is the "tasting" starter. And the risotto was also very tasty and plentiful.

Ordered 2 Irish coffees on the terrace. After a long wait we finally got the order: bad lukewarm Irish coffee, complained about this during checkout. The reaction, oh then I know where it probably comes from. No apologies, could just pay the full amount, bad service.

Unfortunately, the restaurant was closed when I went there, but I had the chance to go there twice before. I really liked the interior then. The service was good and the staff was very nice. We had a good time both times.

Ate here with my mother, nachos with chicken. Both became very ill that night. Been sick for a week. What a damper on our weekend away

Saturday evening we had a three-course menu and a pub quiz with colleagues in this cozy restaurant. Service and food were top notch. Pub quiz was well put together, something for everyone and we learned something.

Dit is een mooi restaurant, uitstekende service en lekker eten. Wij kwamen hier aan en kregen direct een tafeltje. Niet lang daarna kregen wij de menukaart. Uiteindelijk gegaan voor het Kipfilet met roomkaas, parmaham, kerrievadousaus en gembersiroop. Helaas was dit een menu van de week maar ik raad hem alsnog aan. De service was uitstekend en vroeg vaak of alles naar wens was. Ook was er aardige keuze voor glutenvrije mensen.

Very good service and a super tasty meal. Our daughter has a cow's milk allergy and the children's menu included ice cream... the chef adjusted it and it was tasty.

A very cozy cafe with delicious food and friendly staff. We were there on Valentine's Day and they had decorated the place attractively, with a special Valentine's menu in addition to the regular menu. Definitely recommended to go here!

A nice place to have something to eat. Price quality is excellent. Food is also good, but not great. Thought it was better before. Can take allergies into account and have gluten-free bread. That's very nice.

Went for dinner with a group on Wednesday evening. The restaurant was pleasantly busy. A wide selection of dishes on the menu with generous portions. The quiche and goat cheese salad were delicious. Friendly staff. The only downside is that with a group and a full restaurant, it can get a bit noisy, making conversation difficult. Definitely recommended!

We went for the pathé arrangement. With the fire alarm you got duo steak with pork tenderloin. But we don't eat pork so we asked if we could get 2x a duo steak per person. That was possible but then we had to pay €5 extra per person. I thought that was ridiculous because it felt like we were the victims because we don't eat something. Made this clear. Also indicated that we don't want anything for which we have to pay extra. Finally ordered the beef steak. After the starter we had to wait a very long time for the main course. We got this and were told that it was a double steak and I thought oh how nice we are being compensated for the fact that we don't eat that pork tenderloin. When we got the bill we still had to pay that €5 extra per person. Apparently it was a misunderstanding between the lady and us. This lady remained polite the whole time which we thought was really good. She indicated that she had not understood us correctly. During our conversation another lady comes over and asks: 'what is the problem now?' That immediately hit me the wrong way because I thought I haven't discussed any problems with you so why are you talking to me like that? I indicated this, then she indicated that she had already spoken to the first lady. Still doesn't give her the right to talk to me like that. She supposedly wanted to do something for me but I didn't need that anymore. You should always speak politely to a customer and if you start like that I don't need to discuss anything further with you or any help either. Paid for the food and left. Advice to the rude lady: you can learn a lot from your colleague because she knows how it should be done.

Ate with two people. Food was very tasty (mixed grill) We both have an allergy (gluten (1) and peanut + nuts (2)), this was taken into account. There is a separate allergens card which also describes which ingredients contain the various allergens. In addition, the fries were also made in the gluten-free fryer without asking. Very cozy interior and friendly staff.

Good pub food, nothing special.

A very attractive restaurant with a nice theme. The food was also very good! In addition, a compliment to the staff, we found them to be extremely customer-friendly.

This is a sight to behold if you have been or are still employed by the fire brigade

Eten besteld, niet best. Saté en sparerib besteld. De eerste was nog ok, slechts 2 stokjes. De sparerib was erg klein en gortdroog van binnen. De patat was te kort gebakken en een slappe hap. En de meegeleverde salade waren 2 sla blaadjes met een stukje oranje tomaat erop. Vroeger kon je hier prima eten. Dit was echter een grote teleurstelling (zeker met een hele stevige prijs ook nog eens).

Prima zaak, vaker geweest. Leuke bediening, lekker eten en daar gaat het om! Chapeau Ouwe Brandweer!! Waarom worden er niet meer de oude menunamen gebruikt? Dat heeft teveel uitleg nodig denk ik! Maar evengoed, het smaakt er niet minder om!

Super cozy, nice and atmospheric café on the Gedempte Zuiderdiep in the heart of Groningen. The café has existed since 1994 and is named after the fire station (which is reflected in the attractive design) that stood opposite it (where Pathé is now located). They have a nice simple dinner menu. I had the carpaccio and the schnitzel. The carpaccio was of five star level, the schnitzel was not bad but not excellent either (a bit dry). Hence just under five stars. I thought the local Eggens Craft beers (Groninger taste😋) were a big plus.

Super fun, delicious food. The meat lover is in his element here. Great service, cozy atmosphere. Recommended.

Went out to eat alone again in a long time. I arrived late, but I was still helped well. Upon arrival I was able to select a table and order immediately. I started with a cola beer burg and mustard soup. The Mustard Soup was nothing special, just very standard. As a main course I had the beef steak with fries. I used the beef steak as medium rare. Steak was cooked well but not quite how it should be. Steak was not very tender and could have been cooked a little more on the inside. Overall it was a good experience, but for the same money you can get something better.

After a previous disappointing experience and having expressed this, I was given the opportunity to come and have a fully prepared meal for a second chance and entirely at the expense of restaurant De ouwe Brandweer! Very good gesture. Went yesterday and 100% improvement. Everything was fine and taken care of. Delicious food and super nice service. Thank you.

Not much to talk about. Friendly service from the staff, who in my opinion were not professional enough. Something kept going wrong when arranging drinks, which had been written down a few minutes earlier by another colleague. We were with a fairly large group, so this may cause some confusion. The food was fine, but something went wrong every round which left a bitter aftertaste.

Great place. Ribs were generous and the mixed grill was no slouch either. The G&T with cranberry lime and orange was very good.Wait staff very good as well

Wat een ieder waarschijnlijk verwacht bij binnenkomst (café uitstraling) wordt met de bediening en het eten helemaal goedgemaakt.

De spicy spareribs waren veel te pittig gemarineerd, hierdoor waren mijn smaakpapillen uitgeschakeld. Erg jammer.

Rond 16:00 uur aanwezig, aangegeven iets te willen eten, maar niet gereserveerd. Tafeltje toegewezen, eerst koffie, iets drinken, diner, maar na ieder contact voelde je de druk dat we eigenlijk moesten vertrekken. Niet echt welkom! Niet voor herhaling vatbaar. Duur ook!

Leuk restaurantje voelt oud aan.

Omdat er kennelijk op dat moment personeelstekort was, mochten wij bij hoge uitzondering toch gaan zitten en een borrelhap bestellen. Gastvrij, is in mijn ogen anders.

Het eten was echt heerlijk. wel wat weinig, ook weinig patat. Helaas waren ze ons vergeten, er ging wat mis met onze bon. Pas toen we na een uur vroegen waar het eten bleef zeiden ze dat er iets misgegaan was maar ze hebben ons een drankje aangeboden van het huis ter compensatie. We hadden het fijn gevonden als ze even iets hadden laten weten. Maarel met al echt heerlijk gegeten, het vlees was mals en lekker.

Altijd gezellig en altijd lekker eten. Gastvrije bediening en altijd in voor een grapje. Wel jammer is dat in de loop de jaren de "glijpaaltjes" van de kaart verdwenen zijn. Maar nog genoeg andere toepasselijke namen bij gerechten. Leuke ambiance gericht op het thema brandweer en vuur, blussen etc.

Service traag en eten lauw. Ik kom hier niet meer eten.

Gezellig eetcafe, goede kaart, snelle bediening en heerlijk eten. Wat wil je nog meer.

Goed gegeten en sfeervol ingericht. Personeel is snel en vriendelijk. Porties vonden we niet heel groot, maar zeker lekker.

Heerlijk gegeten, een echte aanrader

Been a number of times now. The food is delicious and well presented. Ambience is relaxed and friendly. Excellent service. A great venue for a quick drink or a full meal.

Heerlijk gegeten. En dat terwijl er eigenlijk geen plek was. De gastvrouw van dienst verdiend een groot, zeer groot compliment.

Goed eetcafé en niet duur. Helaas zaten wij in de grote ruimte waar het nogal lawaaierig was. Door de akoestiek verstonden wij elkaar aan tafel slechter dan de mensen aan een tafel aan de andere kant van de ruimte.

Als wij van het station komen gaan we hier en lekker brandweer biertje drinken nou dat is een aanrader hoor

Goed restaurant , eten goed tegen redelijke prijs bediening zeer vriendelijk

3 gangen menu met 2 vouchers voor bioscoop Pathé aan de overkant. Het eten was prima en de bediening oké. Prijs was beden gemiddeld als je de vouchers verzilverd.

Leuke eetcafe,sfeervol. Maar het eten heel botjes! Zelfs in simpele Sate wat je aan een kind zou kunnen geven als je daar zou eten.. gevaarlijk.. De carpaccio voorgerecht was echt heerlijk! We hadden het voor gerecht nog maar 2 minuten op en het hoofd gerecht werdt al gebracht. We kregen het gevoel dat we snel weg moesten, dat was niet fijn. Met nog niet eens een uur waren we al klaar.

Meermaals wel gegeten maar vandaag was het niet als vanouds “ ietwat uitgeblust “ , rommelig in de bediening en de gerechten minder smaakvol dan voorheen . Jammer dat de puntjes niet meer op de I te vinden zijn zoals voorheen .

Wat een sfeervol restaurant. We hebben met plezier en smaak gegeten.

De bediening was vriendelijk maar het opnemen van de bestelling duurde wel heel erg lang. De drankjes kwamen vervolgens pas nadat het voorgerecht al op tafel stond... Het eten smaakte goed, maar zowel bij het voorgerecht als het hoofdgerecht waren de porties erg klein... Zalmsalade met weinig zalm en een hoofdgerecht met 2 hele kleine stukjes varkenshaas, weinig groente en kleine porties friet. De volgende keer toch maar ergens anders eten... Erg jammer.

Een heerlijk restaurant met fijn, vriendelijk personeel

We hadden online gereserveerd, maar schijnbaar was dit door het personeel gemist. Hier werd vervolgens onvriendelijk en geïrriteerd op gereageerd naar mij en mijn gezelschap. De ober, welke ons bediende, bezorgde de menu kaarten waarbij hij duidelijk hoorbaar liep te zuchten. Het restaurant was voor de helft gevuld, maar het eten liet nogal op zich wachten. De Burger Royal was verre van royaal niveau. Al met al viel het bezoek nogal tegen. Een vervolg zal dan ook niet snel gepland worden.

Dit restaurant gekozen vanwege de sfeer die de website, en het menu dat dat te zien was, uitstraalde en de mogelijkheid om glutenvrij te eten. We hadden dan ook niet heel veel moeite wat lekkers uit te zoeken. Het glutenvrije gerecht was uitstekend en er was zelfs glutenvrije patat... wat we wel apart vonden aangezien patat op zich geen gluten bevat. We denken dan ook dat het door de kruidenzout kwam die er bij de glutenvrije variant niet op zat. Net nadat we het hoofdgerecht op hadden kan er een zeer grote groep binnen waardoor er zeer veel geluid was in een relatief kleine ruimte. We konden elkaar niet meer verstaan en zijn toen vertrokken.

Erg lekker hier gegeten. Kunnen goed rekening houden met allergieen en intoleranties. Glutenvrij hier gegeten. Was goed geregeld en geen last er na van gehad. Tip voor het restaurant: zorg dat er voor klanten ook een allergenenkaart is. Nu werd er door de bediening gezegd we overleggen het en dan komt het goed. Dat was in dit geval ook zo dus, maar dat is niet altijd overal zo. Het geeft mensen met een allergie een goed gevoel als ze zelf naar de allergenen kaart kunnen kijken.

Binnen ziet het er leuk uit. Ze verkopen hun eigen bier om het passend te maken. Echter, de service was heel traag. We hebben 1:45 moeten wachten op alleen het hoofdgerecht. Na dit aan te hebben gegeven zeggen ze dat ze lichte vertraging hebben in de keuken. Maar dat gaat bij mij niet op aangezien andere tafels wel hun eten kregen. Misschien behandelen ze ons anders omdat wij gereserveerd hebben via het laatste tafeltje. Het eten zelf was matig. Dit geld zowel voor de kwaliteit en de kwantiteit. Dit restaurant was voor ons eenmalig.

Eten was goed, erg lekker. Persoonlijk mag het wel iets meer zijn. Ook de bijgerechten waren wat klein voor 2 personen. Service was prima, hoefden niet lang te wachten.

Een heerlijk eetcafe met goede bediening en een prima sfeer. Het eten is uit de kunst.
