Visited this place recently in Amsterdam - oud west and absolutely loved the experience! Even though I'm not usually a beer drinker, their mango beer was surprisingly delicious and definitely a highlight of the visit. We tried the Injara, the bfood was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. The staff was warm, patient, and kind enough to explain each dish in detail in English not just in Dutch, which made choosing what to order so much easier. Great food, wonderful hospitality, and a unique beer selection—I'd happily visit again and I did so again during the same trip. 😊

Unfortunately I did not have a great experience. The food was good but was served cold (except the soup thankfully). I think this matters a lot for the meat dishes, but I enjoyed the lentil and vegetables. The service was also not very attentive. Maybe it was a busy day, but if served well, the food would've been really enjoyable.

Best East African food I’ve ever had. Such a lovely spot, none of this modern minimal stuff - looks like it was an old school bar before hand? Loved the old dark wood and amazing laid back atmosphere. I got the vegetarian trio option for €20 and a small glass of red wine, which was a treat as someone on a tight budget, but my gosh was it worth it. Portion was so huge as well I skipped breakfast the next day so technically saved money by going here . Go there now !!!

Incredibly good, authentic food. I'd never eaten teff before. It tastes amazing! The food was freshly prepared – it took a little while, but that made it all the fresher and more delicious!

This was some of the best authentic food I had in the Netherlands. If you want some food with big portions and a lot of flavor for an inexpensive price come here.

Food not fresh and had a hair in it

The three of us immersed ourselves in Eritrean cuisine. All our dishes were served on one large plate, allowing us to share them. A truly delicious experience – highly recommended! Important: You eat with your hands!

I visited the place in June 2025 and enjoyed the food and overall experience. However, the service was incredibly slow. I suspect they were understaffed.

We ordered 4 mains and as its served in one large dish we could all share. I think our young server enjoys the big reveal when she removes the dish lid. She was really very sweet. Lentil soup and the tartare starter are highly recommended!

The place is small but very cute, welcoming from the moment we arrived. The young woman who served us was sweet, kind, and truly helpful, which we greatly appreciated. It was our first time trying African cuisine, and we asked for a mild dish; unfortunately, what we received was very spicy, and we couldn't eat it or fully enjoy it. Perhaps we'll try again in the future, hoping for an experience more suited to our tastes.

I think the food at fenan is more adjusted to the “ non African “ taste preferences .. so it’s less spicy and less greasy but still keeping the great taste ! The service is always friendly , I’ve been there several times & i highly recommend it !

A cozy, atmospheric Ethiopian restaurant run by a family. Busy, with soothing African music playing in the background, it's still easy to chat among yourselves. First time eating Ethiopian food, and definitely worth repeating. The three of us ate a different dish, served on a large platter so you could sample everything with the injera (pancake). No cutlery. The food was excellent, nicely seasoned and slightly spicy. The service was excellent; if you wanted something, it was brought to you without being pushy. Friendly and willing to explain the dishes. You're not left out after you've finished your meal; you can still relax and linger at the table.

My dad has had Ethiopian food elsewhere in Europe and the USA, wanting to introduce it to me. I loved it. It was busy the night we came, but everything tasted great, the staff were friendly and on point and we had a great experience.

Cannot recommend this place enough. We had a vegetarian in our group of six and had the waiter choose a few dishes for all of us to split. Super accommodating on that front and a much better group experience than you might get going somewhere else for dinner because of the tearing and sharing of the bread and platter. If we were visiting for more than a couple days, would definitely go back and try more of the menu.

Small, cozy Ethiopian restaurant. Friendly service. You eat with your hands (no cutlery) by tearing off pieces of a pancake and eating your chosen main course with them. You do need to like spicy food.

It's a very small restaurant, but you won't have to wait long; you'll be served right away. This is thanks to the clever service. Each order comes on a large, round platter, whether you're ordering for one or five people. It looks very inviting and invites you to try what your partner ordered. Vegetarian and vegan options are readily available and incredibly delicious. Go eat here soon; so far, you don't know what you've been missing.

Discovered it quite by chance. The food was absolutely amazing. We ordered both meat and vegetarian dishes and couldn’t stop eating even after we were completely stuffed. Highly recommend. Staff were really nice though service is a bit slow (as is common in Amsterdam)

A surprisingly small place with incredibly good service and the food was really delicious. It is a nice, cozy tent that I often walked past before. (The only point of attention is that they can run a dustpan/swiffer over the walls and cupboards.) But if you are in the area and want to eat surprisingly good food, Fenan Klein Afrika is a very good choice.

It was the first time we went to an Ethiopian; Sidon's help when choosing the dishes has been great. Highly recommended, good quantity and quality.

Been here 2 years ago, at that time the staff assumed me doesn't eat raw beef, therefore he served me Kifto with cooked beef, which was also delicious, this time I specifically asked them to give me Kifto with raw beef, and there it is, it's more delicious and that's the true taste of Ethiopia. The restaurant is popular therefore reservation in advance is needed.

Best Ethiopian in town! Heartily people, 100% organic dishes, 100% wheat free injeras, amazing tastes and warm atmosphere.

Always delicious and authentic. What is extra nice is that the dishes are gluten-free as standard, the injera is tasty and the flavors are wonderfully spicy. 'Primal food' for our children from Ethiopia. It is very nice that there is no adjustment towards the mild Western cuisine. Generous portions, even though our kids really eat it. Highly recommended. Also plenty vegan. Sorry, friendly, sweet, kind service and the cook/owner always gives our boys extra attention.

Good food but terrible service. The waiter and their manager argued for minutes on why they cannot serve tap water or bottled still water at room temperature. The only option was to pay for a bottle of chilled throat wrenching water.

Delicious food! We had five dishes split between five people and it was plenty. The injera was spongy and sour and complemented the rich stews well. Great service, cozy and lively atmosphere and prices are quite decent. Highly recommend over all!

Great spot for Ethiopian food. I love the vegetables they pair the dishes with. The meat is good and sometimes can be a bit chewy but the veggies are the best. The portion is generous too.
