Fernando's Alkmaar in Centrum

This was really next level. Haven't eaten out this well in the Netherlands in a long time! Many restaurants in cities like Alkmaar, Amsterdam and Utrecht could learn something from this!

Het was weer een klein feestje! Met een beetje geluk konden we een vrijgekomen tafel bemachtigen en waar het buiten regende, scheen bij Fernando’s binnen de zon volop. Niet alleen de allerhartelijkste ontvangst die je direct het gevoel geven thuis te komen, maar ook de vrolijkheid van andere gasten is een bevestiging dat dit een bijzonder restaurant is. Gastvrouw Lisa lichtte niet alleen de gerechten en wijnen zeer goed toe, haar uitleg maakte de gerechten nóg spannender. Dat waren weer vijf gangen feest op het bord! Dat Fernando’s geen menukaart heeft, is voor ons alleen maar een pluspunt. Hoe zou je kunnen kiezen van een kaart, als met het menu vijf signatuur-gerechten worden voorgeschoteld? We zien alweer uit naar de volgende avond bij Fernando aan tafel.

Had an incredible time last night at Fernando's for the umpteenth time. The complex and delicious dishes, the excellent wine selection and relaxed service combine to create a culinary mini holiday. The price is simply low for what is offered, even in economical West Friesland.

Very cozy restaurant, very nice atmosphere. Top service and delicious food. It is of course on the pricey side, but the price-quality ratio is certainly there! Definitely recommended for a beautiful occasion!!

Ate for the 2nd time in this now really my favorite restaurant in Alkmaar. What delicious food and what nice, informal, attentive service. Book well in advance because it is popular but worth the wait. Take your wallet with you, but that's the case everywhere these days. Maybe a bit more expensive than average, but you get what you pay for.

Het heeft even geduurd voordat wij een tafel bij Fernando’s konden bemachtigen, maar uiteindelijk is het gelukt, door twee maanden van tevoren te reserveren. Dat lange wachten beloofde veel goeds, in de keuken van Fernando moest wel iets speciaals gebeuren. Teleurgesteld werden we zeker niet, beter nog, het werd een klein feestje aan tafel. Vijf gangen aan culinaire verrassingen passeerden de revue, prima wijntjes gedronken - en ook onze bob werd voorzien van prima alcoholvrije cocktails. We komen graag terug - al hopen we, dat we niet zo ver van tevoren hoeven te reserveren, maar dit is meer dan begrijpelijk!

Once again we had a delicious meal and enjoyed surprising dishes, flavor combinations and fantastic wines.

Had dinner at Fernando's in August. It was my husband's birthday and he doesn't like to be in the spotlight. So we had not informed him that it was his birthday. The attentive sommelier (Mark) saw that we had something to celebrate and came up with a small surprise. This made the evening a little more special. The food is delicious and Mark knows a lot about wines. Just like us, we are also lovers of good wines. We chatted a lot with him about beautiful wine regions and gave each other ideas. The chef also came to the table himself to present his beautiful dishes. It always remains such an intense taste experience! Wow. We chose Monday as dinner evening. This way it is not as busy and you still experience more of the hospitality than on busier days. This restaurant also gets 5 stars from us. What an experience. We definitely recommend eating here.

The matching wine arrangement is a great addition. The icing on the cake - the icing on the cake - is the detailed explanation of each dish and matching wine. Also not entirely unimportant; the atmosphere in the cozy restaurant is very nice and casual. The owners, Mark and Fernando, and their staff, are incredibly friendly and hospitable. *Can be put back in the closet* Was the comment my girlfriend posted after the umpteenth plate that we had wiped every last drop with bread or our fingers. Not much work for the dishwashing kitchen tonight. 5 course surprise menu. From gazpacho with salmon, pasta with lobster, prawn in a 'bisque' (I can't call it that, I know), to lamb so tender that it almost looked like a tartare, followed by a bavette with a greatly reduced gravy with gochujang for some power and a dessert with multiple preparations of white chocolate, plus coconut, rhubarb, etc. I don't know how to describe it as fancy, but believe me: everything is spot on. We are big eaters and after a little hint we received delicious bread and... Brown butter with sea salt with every course, divine. Pairing wines were great and our sommelier/host (supplemented by the sommeliere - himself invented) made it a great evening for us. High level fine dining, but in an extremely casual vibe (shit). I simply have nothing to say or complain about. If we end up in Alkmaar again, we will not go to one of the countless other places with top reviews, but again to Fernando's. P.s. When you enter and see heroes Marco Pierre White and Anthony Bourdain hanging life-size (and Slash, for the music lover), you can hardly go wrong, right? Chef and team: Grazie mille! Heerlijk genoten hier in hartje Alkmaar!!! Een heel gezellig tentje in het midden van Alkmaar Centrum. Gerund door twee toppers, een in de keuken en een in de bediening. De chef Fernando heeft zijn dagverse menu met zijn team voorbereid. Heerlijke smaakvolle en doordachte gerechten verschijnen hier vanuit de kleine open keuken. Het team is relaxed en zeer goed op elkaar ingespeeld. Heerlijke eerlijke gerechten, met liefde bereid, en zeer smaakvol gecombineerd. Voor staat de heer Mark Zomers, wat een topper ook zeg. Een heerlijke open en gastvrije kerel. Hij zorgt ervoor dat je je meteen welkom en te gast voelt. Daarnaast heeft hij ook zeer veel kunde op gebied van eren, drinken en genieten. We hebben fantastisch genoten. Een echte aanrader voor iedereen. Oooohhhh ja, de wijnkaart is leuk, heeft een instap gedeelte, maar ook een exclusievere afdeling. Het is nu al een leuke kaart, maar mag een ietsje verfijning krijgen. De heer Zomers, heeft af en toe ook nog een leuk flesje in de kelder apart liggen voor de echte liefhebber, dus meld je zeker bij hem. Een fantastisch adres als je van genieten houd!

Gegeten in Fernando's. Geen keuze, alleen 5-gangendiner. Glas wijn bedraagt € 8 maar een wijnarrangement van 4 glazen ook. Vind je de wijn niet smaakvol, wordt er geen andere gehaald. Bediening zeer vriendelijk. Gerechten verrassend van smaak en keuze. Buikvet mag er van mij uit. Restaurant op zich is gezellig, maar rumoerig. Ga er gerust een keer eten, zeker !

Loved it from beginning to end! There is no à la carte dining here, which is not needed because the chefs menu was absolutely delicious. We also loved the flexibility to add a wine pairing on some of the dishes and not all + we could even do half glasses. Perfect evening and we'll surely be back. Bedankt :)

For us, a drive of more than two hours was more than worth it. Have eaten here a few times and it has been fantastic every time. Beautiful and cozy place, top service, delicious surprising dishes and tasty wines. Price-quality is top and all this in a nice informal atmosphere. Simply great!

Six months ago I had a great meal with my friend with great service, explanation and play with colors, flavors and wine pairing. Made a reservation a month ago for my father's birthday. Price increases exactly today, and quite a bit too. The cook was in the kitchen taking several bites from the pans and unfortunately the taste sensations were not as special as last time. I also didn't like the presentation, there was nothing special about the risotto, just a little cheese on top. We often eat at similar restaurants and also with Michelin stars. My boyfriend is a chef so we know a bit about it. Unfortunately, there is no appetizer beforehand at this restaurant, only a sandwich with delicious butter. Furthermore, the last course is not included in the wine arrangement. And it is not mentioned that the cheese is more expensive. Also nothing was done for my father's birthday, he turned 60 so it is a special age. And the 5 of us still went to eat for a higher amount than we reserved for. Still 4 stars because last time the food was fantastic and this time it was also OK.

Concept surprise menu is fine. Service is friendly. Nice that the chef comes to the table to explain his dishes. However, we missed taste sensations and color, it was all flat. We found it annoying that we found out at checkout that we had to pay 6.50 more for the cheese board. It would have been nice to report this in advance.

Ate here with friends and had an unforgettable evening. I made a reservation without knowing that the restaurant does not have a menu but only serves a surprise menu. The dishes that were served were indeed all a pleasant surprise, both on the plate and in terms of taste. One of our party only eats meat and fish without, but - without this being specified when making the reservation - this was resolved for her in a very tasteful manner.
