Excellent bakery with a good selection of breads and cakes. Perfect for breakfast. I recommend the rhubarb cake and the carrot cake.

Cute little bakery from the looks! I bought a “buckel” I think it was called; it was delicious and very filling. I would definitely buy it again based on the taste. My only gripe is that I was in the store for two seconds (and keep in mind the store front is barely bigger than 2-3 people, so it’s obvious for the people behind the counter. You can’t avoid eye contact basically haha.) and was immediately rushed and asked if they could help me. It really is a pet peeve of mine when shops don’t give you the chance to look. I said I was still looking and while I was the employee was just staring at me… Awkward.

After I had their rhubarb cake (as suggested by some of the reviews here on maps) I just started craving it every day!! It’s sooo good! Such a treat, I love how soft it is and the custard and rhubarb combination is just delicious! I couldn’t help myself so went back today again and got two more pieces 😹 the other products are really nice too, from the pastries to the bread and sandwiches! This bakery is a little gem right next to Leiden university! Highly recommended! ❤️

Great little local bakery with a nice variety of pastries and breads.

What a lovely little bakery this is! I'm lucky it's so close to my university building, so it's become a regular part of my week. The Frisian pof is especially recommended!

I paid €9.10 today for two currant buns with a slice of cheese. The currant buns were €0.80 each. Make of that what you will.

A bakery worth visiting so many options would recommend the BLT Kip 10/10! Carrot cake also delicious.

I've had maybe 100 gevulde koeken around the country while I've been here and this is the clearly the best I've had.

Lovely bakery in the center of Leiden. I went there because I wanted to eat a croissant and I couldn't resist to buy other pastries, they all looked beautiful (and tasted great)! Friendly staff, cozy atmosphere. I will surely visit again!

Amazing bread, pastries and salty snacks. Love: rhubarb cake, bullar, coffeebread, bignou loaf, their foccacia. Everything is good, most of it is amazing, and fair prices.

Nice shop! I always buy our bread there, different types. Sometimes a buckle, a kind of filled cookie with lots of tasty nuts.

I discovered Us Bertus through my Australian friend, who had been a fellow at KITLV. My interest in my heritage was piqued when I spotted a Frisian flag in Leiden, as my great-grandmother was a strong Frisian woman. That initial visit led me to return time and again, as it feels like reminiscent of comforting bread. My absolute favourite is their Rabarber cake, which never fails to lift my spirits. Whenever I'm feeling down or a bit gloomy, if it’s possible, I make my way to Us Bertus for a slice of Rabarber cake. It's exceptionally velvety, dissolving in my mouth, and notably less sweet compared to many Dutch cakes. I wholeheartedly recommend that you all experience the delight of their Rabarber cake!

The best pain au chocolat I've ever had. And the rhubarb cake is amazing too. Would recommend this bakery to anyone visiting Leiden.

Frisian baker. Small, friendly, nice selection, perfect location. But wait. The best ever source of Frisian Sugar bread - the ultimate sugary bread ever. Melted sugar cubes, a functional smidgen of cinamon, slightly sticky... this bread with a liberal smear of butter will send you into a spasm of delight. Don't take my word for it.

Heerlijke belegde broodjes! Knapperig en vers brood. Hun fjord en spelt brood is ongeëvenaard! Probeer ook eens hun Friese suiker brood, mmm

When the Frysian sugar bread was sold out, they called the other Frysian bakery to save me a bike ride there. Very popular among uni students and staff around lunch time.

Durch Zufall entdeckt und mega happy! Wären keine Schlange, hätte ich diese süße kleine Bäckerei nicht bemerkt! Die Verkäuferin war sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit. Und der Muffin war einfach unfassbar lecker 👌 Danke 😊

The perfect original bakery (they're rare)

This is by far my favorite place in Leiden, and the most special of all bakeries I’ve ever had the pleasure of walking into. I was in Leiden from the 3rd to the 8th of November, went back home for 19 days, came back on the 27th of November until the 3rd of December, and if one was to ask me about the highlight of my trip? I would simply conclude without even thinking for a fraction of a second, that it was this beautiful bakery, with its great bread and sandwiches, and most of all; the wonderful people who work here. I mean really wonderfully friendly people who never forget your face, and who you must fight with to be able to give a five euro tip. Don’t even get me started with the amazing owner who insists on giving me free bread out of our mutual love and admiration for bread. A true gem, 10/10.
