Oh dear, oh dear. Online, when a negative review comes out, the owner always acts tough, but when you stand in his shop there and say something, he just nods and quickly moves on.

Delicious food in a lovely location in nature! We definitely recommend the pancakes and hamburger; we have never eaten such tasty ones as here🩷🥞🍔

A nice place to be with the children. Lots of animals. There is a friendly atmosphere. You can only get there by bike or on foot. The terrace is huge. There are many tables on the cozy grassy terrace. The food is fine. Heemskerk beach is a few kilometers away. Camping Geversduin is nearby. It is also nice to go eat at the Patatoloog with the kids. We had lunch here today (June 28). It was a tuna salad sandwich (very flavorful) and the traditional Highlander burger. And this burger was really the first burger that was top-notch. Not too salty, well-seasoned, with a tasty sauce and a delicious bun. The tuna salad was also very good. Highly recommended. We are fans and will definitely be back.

Lovely place for food a drinks. Child and dog friendly but there are free roaming chickens about which could be a problem for your dog. It was super busy but we ordered inside without a long wait and the food came quickly.

I had a cup of coffee here this afternoon. It is located in the dune area and can only be reached by bike or on foot. There are plenty of places to park your bike. There are several terraces with shade cloths and a terrace for smokers. There are a number of animals to view in enclosures. It is spaciously laid out. You place your order inside and pay immediately. You receive your drink right away; with a meal, you are given a table number and your meal is served at your table. They have a good menu with good prices. A big advantage, in my opinion, is that you can walk away from the table after eating. A disadvantage is that if you want another cup of coffee or something else, you have to go back inside to order. Fantastic stop during a walk or bike ride. Highly recommended!!

We stopped here for a break during a bike tour from Egmond. It's a really great, large garden for eating and drinking – unique, cozy, and original.

Wow, what a lovely place this is. I stumbled upon it by chance during a walk, but now I can make sure it fits into my route when I go walking or cycling again. This time I only had coffee with something on the side, but what came with it was delicious.

Spacious establishment. You can come with families, but also with your 'cycling team'. The atmosphere is like dining at a farm, which is very fitting for the location. It is wonderful to still find a restaurant that hasn't been transformed into a trendy spot. It is geared towards ordering at the counter, and the food is brought to your table. The restrooms cannot be called clean, but I think this is also the effect of having so many children. The location, the people, the food. It is highly recommended. It has a local 'Kennemer' vibe.

Nice restaurant! Take a walk through the dunes and then come here for a lovely drink, a sandwich, or whatever else you fancy. You order at the counter yourself, receive a number, and your order is delivered to your table. Even when it's busy, you don't have to wait long. Hardworking, friendly staff! Lovely place. Just a shame that smoking is still allowed on the terrace...

Gasterij Kruisberg is one of those places you happily return to time and time again. The food is always delicious, prepared with care, and exactly what you need during a walk or bike ride through the dunes. When the sun is shining, it is lovely to spend time on the terrace. Small children can enjoy themselves in the sandbox under the supervision of their parents, and older guests can take a seat at a table on one of the many other grassy areas. In short: highly recommended.

What a lovely location this is; my 2.5-year-old toddler would love to be here every day😁. It’s situated nicely in the woods, and kids can have fun playing in the large sandbox. The staff is friendly, and the food is good! Inside, it’s also very cozy when it’s cold, and there is often a fireplace lit. Truly a top-notch spot!!!

No parking problems here. Accessible only on foot or by bike. A large terrace/meadow in the summer. Beautiful views everywhere.

This restaurant is absolutely chaotic. The food is mediocre, sometimes cold, sometimes too greasy. You pay a lot for very little. The staff gives you a stern look for no reason. No smiles. No respect. As if you're a nuisance when you're just a customer. Outside, everything is full of fat bikes. The entire sidewalk is blocked. You can barely get past them. Nobody does anything about it. Inside, it's noisy, crowded, and disorganized. Orders take too long. You feel tension, not a friendly atmosphere. This is not a place to have a peaceful meal. It's an annoyance from start to finish. I won't be going back. A waste of time and money.

I returned here after almost a year, and I’m really disappointed with the experience. The prices for everything have gone up considerably, but the quality has clearly gone down. The burgers were my favorite but not anymore: the bread is now cheap and industrial and no longer the fresh, homemade bread they used to make the burgers with. The ingredients seem lower quality overall, and the fries were almost black, like they’d been reheated or fried in old oil. Drink prices have also increased. We waited in the line for 30-40 minutes just to place our orders. That’s unacceptable for just one person to take the orders at the bar for both drinks and food. And another 30 min to get our food at the table. Just horrible! They should normalize table ordering JUST LIKE ANY OTHER RESTAURANT (but no, let’s keep them standing and waiting for 1 hour to get their €18 burger at the bar). Terrible! Overall, it was a disappointing visit. This used to be one of my favorite places to come, but sadly, not anymore. Another one down.

Location is ok otherwise well if you love animals you should definitely not go there, lots of stuffed animals which doesn't really look friendly, way too busy on and on the walls with antlers, deer, boar's head, hunting rifle, geese hanging from the ceiling, a text like "don't you like Scottish Highlanders eat a Hamburger" which might go down the wrong way with some people, eating bitterballen to get the shit egg a few hours later, waiting 20 minutes in line before you can place an order since it was a beautiful Sunday the only thing I missed was the tune of the Efteling attraction Carnaval Festival

A wonderful place to eat after a long walk. There's plenty to do for young and old. Beautiful surroundings and a delicious menu with everything you could possibly want.

Nice place. In the middle of nature. There are many hiking trails. There is a large garden with plenty of seating. There is always room. Eating and drinking are fine together. For the kids there is a sandbox and many, many animals. A cozy place for young and old.

It's really nice there. The staff is friendly, but having to wait over an hour for a few fries...that's unacceptable...and then they weren't tasty at all. Freshly fried potatoes, but the seasoning was missing. Ordered barbecue sauce, but got sachets of mayo and ketchup 🤨.

Gasterij Kruisberg in Castricum is a wonderful place! Friendly service, a cozy and informal atmosphere, and you can sit outside with plenty of shade and space. The chickens roaming around make it extra fun and relaxing. It's also perfect for a baby. And then there's the Highlander burger: local meat and truly delicious! Absolutely recommended.

The burgers are delicious, though they vary wildly from year to year. Last year and before that, the buns were soggy and the burgers were dry, and this year they're top-notch again. The location is also fantastic. The fries, however, are inedible. Dark brown, soggy mess. As if they were soaked in three-year-old frying oil and then dipped in a pan of hot water just before serving. "That's how it should be," says the owner.

The Highland beef burger was delicious. It was great to try it! They have bottled beers, and the regular beer is quite dark (see photo). The service is good and friendly: order inside and the food is brought to your table outside. It's a shame you can't dine here in the evening!

A fun place in the middle of the dunes where kids can play and there is the option to eat and drink something. A 15 minute walk through the woods and dunes from the nearest parking. You order inside and take your drinks to a table, the food is brought afterwards. We were warned of some longer waiting time because it was busy. The food still came pretty fast, maybe 15 minutes. The coffee came from a machine, but was okay. The orange juice was freshly squeezed. The pancake was good and the sandwich with salmon was not bad at all with a good amount of salmon on it. The chickens roam freely, and I didn't mind sharing my lettuce. The service ends with ordering inside and if you want anything else you need to hack inside. 2 adults with pancake, salmon sandwich, 2 cappuccino and oranje juiste came to €38 euros. Not bad, definitely not cheap.

Simple but reasonably good food in a lovely outdoor setting. Pancakes, fried eggs, and sandwiches. I found the drinks relatively expensive, but that might just be me. I think we were unlucky with the black coffee. It wasn't good. A large, weak cup of a good coffee brand.

Stopped here for a small snack during a walk, a paradise hidden between the dunes. Delicious apple pie, just a little different than usual!! Very hospitable reception and nice atmosphere (chickens walk around freely) for a stopover.

Nice place to stop for a pit stop while cycling or walking. Kids love the sandbox and the chickens. The food was fine, we had the highland burgers and a portion of bitterballen. Too bad there are ice creams in the freezer at Boerderijs Ola, kids were disappointed, but once home they got ice cream somewhere else. The only thing I really thought was sad were the gigantic rabbits in the too small cages. Maybe stop with the rabbits? They will need more space than they currently have...

We were here on liberation day. Open but the kitchen was closed. Normally closed on Mondays and Tuesdays I think.

I was told they're famous for their burgers. As a Canadian I thought, okay, let's see... Well, it's for a very good reason! I had the loaded burger and it was absolutely delicious! I would go out of my way to come back to this hidden gem!

Very cute pancake house, absolute kids paradise. Imagine the perfect outdoorsy pancake house, it has a bunch of playgrounds, a sandpit, donkeys, chicken, rabbits, cold beer, hot coffee and large pancakes and that is Kruisberg. It’s also fun and cosy for couples, with plenty of nooks and a fire outside. When you offer to parents it is always a win if you keep the menu simple and short. The place is so spacious that kids aren’t fighting over toys or slides and have plenty to explore. The one point of improvement is the quality of the food and drink, as that comes at the expense of catering for the large number of people seated at any given time—this also means it takes a long time to get your order. But if you’re okay with Douwe Egberts coffee from a Douwe E machine and a pancake that is only slightly bigger than the home made version, you’ll have a great time here. And besides a so-so pancake you get to eat in peace while you’re kids hangout with some massive rabbits is still better than a perfect pancake, either shared or not eaten due to some playground drama

Atmospheric place in the middle of nature with a lovely fireplace. I just don't understand why a coffee costs 2.95 and an espresso costs 3.80!. Both come from the same machine (no espresso machine).

Toen wij dit aangaven zei de dame dat als ze het nu deed, ze dit de volgende keer weer zou willen als het druk was. Mijn wandelmaatje ging naar het toilet en op dat moment zei de vrouw achter de balie tegen mij 'lekker zo een eerste klant, kun je weer de hele dag mee door'. Ik had mijn koffie al afgerekend helaas. Ik zei er iets van dat ze zo onvriendelijk deed, ik heb jarenlang in het cafe in Overveen bij de duinen gewerkt en dit is niet hoe je met gasten omgaat. Ook zei ik dat het een kleine moeite is om even het kopje om te wisselen tussen de melk en koffie of om 1 koffie en 1 glas opgeschuimde melk te maken, want die knop zit zelfs gewoon op die machine. Ik heb mijn wandelmaatje verteld wat de vrouw in kwestie tegen mij heeft gezegd en heb uiteindelijk mijn koffie laten staan en we zijn vertrokken. Wat een onvriendelijkheid en als je na 2 dagen gesloten te zijn, op woensdag nog bezig bent met de drukte van afgelopen weekend, wordt het tijd voor ander werk. Mij is in de horeca geleerd dat gastvrijheid en flexibiliteit het allerbelangrijkste is en dat was ver te zoeken. Deze review heb ik ook op google geplaatst en mijn wandelmaatje ook en de reacties daarop laten zien hoe deze eigenaars denken over gasten. Want zij noemen ze klanten, maar in de horeca heb je gasten en geen klanten.
