This restaurant is pure chaos, and Owen was absolutely right. The food is mediocre, sometimes cold, sometimes far too greasy. You pay a lot and get little in return. The staff gives you a stern look for no reason, no smiles, no respect. You feel more like a nuisance than welcome. Outside, everything is full of fat bikes. The sidewalk is completely blocked, and no one is doing anything. Inside, it's noisy, crowded, and disorganized. Orders take forever, and the atmosphere is tense instead of cozy. This is no place for a quiet meal. Owen already said it, a waste of your time and money.

I returned here after almost a year, and I’m really disappointed with the experience. The prices for everything have gone up considerably, but the quality has clearly gone down. The burgers were my favorite but not anymore: the bread is now cheap and industrial and no longer the fresh, homemade bread they used to make the burgers with. The ingredients seem lower quality overall, and the fries were almost black, like they’d been reheated or fried in old oil. Drink prices have also increased. We waited in the line for 30-40 minutes just to place our orders. That’s unacceptable for just one person to take the orders at the bar for both drinks and food. And another 30 min to get our food at the table. Just horrible! They should normalize table ordering JUST LIKE ANY OTHER RESTAURANT (but no, let’s keep them standing and waiting for 1 hour to get their €18 burger at the bar). Terrible! Overall, it was a disappointing visit. This used to be one of my favorite places to come, but sadly, not anymore. Another one down.

Location is ok otherwise well if you love animals you should definitely not go there, lots of stuffed animals which doesn't really look friendly, way too busy on and on the walls with antlers, deer, boar's head, hunting rifle, geese hanging from the ceiling, a text like "don't you like Scottish Highlanders eat a Hamburger" which might go down the wrong way with some people, eating bitterballen to get the shit egg a few hours later, waiting 20 minutes in line before you can place an order since it was a beautiful Sunday the only thing I missed was the tune of the Efteling attraction Carnaval Festival

A wonderful place to eat after a long walk. There's plenty to do for young and old. Beautiful surroundings and a delicious menu with everything you could possibly want.

Nice place. In the middle of nature. There are many hiking trails. There is a large garden with plenty of seating. There is always room. Eating and drinking are fine together. For the kids there is a sandbox and many, many animals. A cozy place for young and old.

It's really nice there. The staff is friendly, but having to wait over an hour for a few fries...that's unacceptable...and then they weren't tasty at all. Freshly fried potatoes, but the seasoning was missing. Ordered barbecue sauce, but got sachets of mayo and ketchup 🤨.

Gasterij Kruisberg in Castricum is a wonderful place! Friendly service, a cozy and informal atmosphere, and you can sit outside with plenty of shade and space. The chickens roaming around make it extra fun and relaxing. It's also perfect for a baby. And then there's the Highlander burger: local meat and truly delicious! Absolutely recommended.

The Highland beef burger was delicious. It was great to try it! They have bottled beers, and the regular beer is quite dark (see photo). The service is good and friendly: order inside and the food is brought to your table outside. It's a shame you can't dine here in the evening!

The burgers are delicious, though they vary wildly from year to year. Last year and before that, the buns were soggy and the burgers were dry, and this year they're top-notch again. The location is also fantastic. The fries, however, are inedible. Dark brown, soggy mess. As if they were soaked in three-year-old frying oil and then dipped in a pan of hot water just before serving. "That's how it should be," says the owner.

A charming farmhouse restaurant. Open and welcoming. Friendly. Excellent lunch. A lovely bike ride! Walking is also an option.

Simple but reasonably good food in a lovely outdoor setting. Pancakes, fried eggs, and sandwiches. I found the drinks relatively expensive, but that might just be me. I think we were unlucky with the black coffee. It wasn't good. A large, weak cup of a good coffee brand.

A fun place in the middle of the dunes where kids can play and there is the option to eat and drink something. A 15 minute walk through the woods and dunes from the nearest parking. You order inside and take your drinks to a table, the food is brought afterwards. We were warned of some longer waiting time because it was busy. The food still came pretty fast, maybe 15 minutes. The coffee came from a machine, but was okay. The orange juice was freshly squeezed. The pancake was good and the sandwich with salmon was not bad at all with a good amount of salmon on it. The chickens roam freely, and I didn't mind sharing my lettuce. The service ends with ordering inside and if you want anything else you need to hack inside. 2 adults with pancake, salmon sandwich, 2 cappuccino and oranje juiste came to €38 euros. Not bad, definitely not cheap.

Stopped here for a small snack during a walk, a paradise hidden between the dunes. Delicious apple pie, just a little different than usual!! Very hospitable reception and nice atmosphere (chickens walk around freely) for a stopover.

Nice place to stop for a pit stop while cycling or walking. Kids love the sandbox and the chickens. The food was fine, we had the highland burgers and a portion of bitterballen. Too bad there are ice creams in the freezer at Boerderijs Ola, kids were disappointed, but once home they got ice cream somewhere else. The only thing I really thought was sad were the gigantic rabbits in the too small cages. Maybe stop with the rabbits? They will need more space than they currently have...

We were here on liberation day. Open but the kitchen was closed. Normally closed on Mondays and Tuesdays I think.

I was told they're famous for their burgers. As a Canadian I thought, okay, let's see... Well, it's for a very good reason! I had the loaded burger and it was absolutely delicious! I would go out of my way to come back to this hidden gem!

Very cute pancake house, absolute kids paradise. Imagine the perfect outdoorsy pancake house, it has a bunch of playgrounds, a sandpit, donkeys, chicken, rabbits, cold beer, hot coffee and large pancakes and that is Kruisberg. It’s also fun and cosy for couples, with plenty of nooks and a fire outside. When you offer to parents it is always a win if you keep the menu simple and short. The place is so spacious that kids aren’t fighting over toys or slides and have plenty to explore. The one point of improvement is the quality of the food and drink, as that comes at the expense of catering for the large number of people seated at any given time—this also means it takes a long time to get your order. But if you’re okay with Douwe Egberts coffee from a Douwe E machine and a pancake that is only slightly bigger than the home made version, you’ll have a great time here. And besides a so-so pancake you get to eat in peace while you’re kids hangout with some massive rabbits is still better than a perfect pancake, either shared or not eaten due to some playground drama

Atmospheric place in the middle of nature with a lovely fireplace. I just don't understand why a coffee costs 2.95 and an espresso costs 3.80!. Both come from the same machine (no espresso machine).

Don't dare order a latte or a cup of frothed milk, the owner will almost foam at the mouth because that's where the most pressure is (the store was completely empty, I was the first customer). After which I decide not to order anything and visit the toilet. After which the owner felt it necessary to talk nasty things about me and complain to my company. Conclusion: this place doesn't like people, especially not customers, and they have never heard the word customer satisfaction. Never again.

Went to the Kruisberg last Sunday for a cup of coffee and it was great. This morning before our long walk we also wanted to have a cup of coffee. My walking buddy asked if she can have the milk and coffee separately and was told in an unfriendly manner by the lady behind the counter that they don't do that there because of the crowds... there was no one else there but us. When we pointed this out, the lady said that if she did it now, she would want to do this again next time when it was busy. My walking buddy went to the toilet and at that moment the woman behind the counter said to me 'nice as a first customer, you can last the whole day with me'. Unfortunately, I had already paid for my coffee. I said something about her being so unfriendly, I worked in the cafe in Overveen near the dunes for years and this is not how you treat guests. I also said that it is a bit of a hassle to switch the cup between milk and coffee or to make 1 coffee and 1 glass of frothed milk, because that button is even on that machine. Then the lady started complaining about the crowds last weekend and that I knew nothing about it. I replied that I was there over the weekend and again that I worked in a cafe in the dunes where it was often much busier than what I saw at their place last Sunday during lunchtime. I told my walking buddy what the woman in question said to me and ended up leaving my coffee and we left. What unfriendliness and if, after being closed for 2 days, you are still busy with the hustle and bustle of last weekend on Wednesday, it is time for other work. I was taught in the catering industry that hospitality and flexibility are the most important things and that was hard to find.

Waiting in line for a long time for something to eat or a drink. This really needs to be better regulated. If you are just sitting comfortably, you think I would like another drink, you have to wait in that long line again.

Beautiful location even now that everything is still bare and cold

This self-service restaurant clearly has a capacity and logistics problem when it is busy. Around 2:00 PM. Finished eggs for the omelette, finished pea soup, various pastries... also finished. But I waited in line for almost 20 minutes to place an order. You get drinks right away. We had to wait no less than 37 (!) minutes for two goat's cheese rolls (only filled). Then the glasses are now empty, but of course you don't have to stand in line again 20 minutes before ordering two drinks. Because then the goat cheese will become cold again.... Too bad, we don't come here anymore.

Today we ate a delicious farmer's highlander burger at Gasterij de Kruisberg. It was deliciously juicy, the bun was crispy and fresh and it was brought to our table by a cheerful, friendly lady.

Kom hier al jaren , maar de gastvrijheid is ver te zoeken vooral bij de eigenaren , bediening zelf was super lief! Onze kids waren heerlijk buiten aan spelen , en onze dochter houd ontzettend veel van kippen ze heeft der zelf 4 , ikzelf sta bij de kassa en haar neefje komt , ze heeft de kip vast op schoot , waarbij ik duidelijk aan geef dat dit niet mag ! Nu komt het , de eigenaar essen , hoort dit en begint nog net niet te schreeuwen , ALS ME MAN DIT ZIET BREEK ZE DE BENEN! Hoe dan!!!! Ik stond echt met een mond vol tanden wat gebeurt hier! Been coming here for years, but the hospitality is hard to find, especially from the owners, the service itself was super sweet! Our kids had a great time playing outside, and our daughter loves chickens very much, she has 4 of her own, I am standing at the cash register and her nephew comes, she is holding the chicken on her lap, and I clearly indicate that this is not allowed! Now it comes, the owner Essen, hears this and doesn't even start screaming, IF MY HUSBAND SEES THIS, SHE BREAKS HER LEGS! How!!!! I was really speechless as to what was happening here! I just couldn't say anything because she kept chatting... But I said this with my 8-year-old nephew standing next to him! How dare you say something like that! How do you even have the guts to say something like that!! Disgusting! I will never come here again!!!! 1 star is still too much, it should be -10

Delicious chocolate milk and very hot.... delicious

Very nice atmosphere, beautifully decorated with often seating even on busy days. Orders have been placed, you usually have to wait in line for a while before it is your turn and on busy days an order can take as little as 45 minutes before it is on the table. But you are in the dunes for relaxation, so that doesn't have to be a drama. The quality is otherwise excellent.

Nice place in the dune area. You have a place to place your order and you will soon receive your food and drinks. This was of excellent quality. The bouncer, for example, was very tasty. In short, it is very nice to take a break during the forest walk.

Had a burger with my brother-in-law yesterday and they were very disappointing. Actually looked pretty sad on the plate. Sandwich, burger, lettuce leaf, slice of tomato and pickle with a container with far too little sauce. When I saw what it should cost, I was completely shocked: 16 euros. Price/quality ratio: ridiculous.

What a great location and no nonsense atmosphere. In the middle of the dunes, it couldn't be more beautiful. The menu is simple but absolutely great! The walk there is already great.

Oh MY!!! Such delicious food!! What a treat after a long walk (inaccessible to cars I think). Authentic Dutch burgers made from local cows. Gluten-free vegan burgers available and tasty as well!! You know it’s the real deal when they don’t have English menus. Very fun outdoors area for kids with bunnies in a coop, roaming chickens and roosters, and a sandpit.

Nice stopover in the dunes. Can only be reached by bicycle or on foot and you need a dune map. Relaxed atmosphere where you sit in a garden with free-roaming chickens. Order yourself and take some with you. Food is brought unless it is cake. You get that straight away. Very fun with kids. Prices can be called reasonable. When it is busy you cannot always sit in the shade, there are no parasols. No dinner possible.

Oei wat is deze pracht plek achteruit gekelderd zeg. We gaan hier elk jaar met m’n oom en tante en ons gezin lunchen als traditie maar dit jaar wist ik niet wat ik zag. Geen salades meer, puur brood en burgers. Nou broodje geitenkaas dan maar. Een gortdroge bol zonder boter of honing met 2 plakken geitenkaas erop. Niets meer en niets minder. Geen sla geen honing niks nada. Zelfde voor broodje zalm , droge bol, plakje zalm erop klaar. En de prijzen zijn er niet lager van geworden. Echt, volgend jaar maar ergens anders heen dan. Een traditie is doorbroken.
