Restaurant/Grand Café "La Citadel" in Wijk 10 Broekpolder

A group of seven of us had a wonderful meal here. Everyone was satisfied, and the service was excellent and friendly. Besides the menu, the venison steak was definitely excellent. Local beer was also a plus.

What a fantastic restaurant! The service was very friendly and the food was amazing. I had the veal ribeye cooked medium rare; it was wonderfully tender and perfectly seasoned. I'll definitely be back.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ – An unexpected, top-notch discovery at La Citadel I rarely write restaurant reviews. This is an exception that I simply have to share with everyone who appreciates truly good food, an exclusive kitchen, and a great team of colleagues. Yesterday, my daughter and I stumbled upon Restaurant La Citadel. We had intended to eat somewhere else, but that restaurant turned out to be closed. In hindsight, a stroke of luck! We love good food and, after many years of visiting Michelin-starred restaurants and acclaimed spots, have become quite the experts. So, we immediately started looking for another restaurant. My daughter mentioned a few options online, and for one, she said: "La Citadel." The name sounded good. The menu descriptions too: dishes that immediately appealed to me. Then I read the reviews – not the nonsense ones about "too long a wait" or "it was cold at home," but the real ones. Those were the ones that spoke to me. So: off to Heemskerk, a half-hour drive. The location is atmospheric, especially in the evening with the lights between the trees. From the outside, it looked inviting. Looking through the windows, it seemed quiet, but pleasant. Then I realized that the place was actually larger than I'd initially realized—in hindsight, it was noticeable, but the surprising effect of the hedgerows and the lighting had escaped my notice at the time. What a beautiful setting! Inside, near the bar, it was quiet, but warm. As it turned out, the place is larger than you'd expect from the outside, and the actual restaurant is located in the right-hand section. Half full, with a warm, peaceful atmosphere. We were greeted warmly and were allowed to choose our own table—that first contact speaks volumes. The staff is friendly, professional, and communicates clearly—both with guests and with each other. That immediately inspires confidence. Then came the food. A fresh sandwich to start, followed by an appetizer for two: a plate filled with various dishes. And that's where the surprise began. This was no ordinary chef – this was top-notch. Knowledge, craftsmanship, and a love of fresh produce radiated from the plate. Every detail was perfect. That set the bar high for the main course. But even there: far exceeded expectations. Two different dishes, both perfectly balanced, with pure flavors, prepared with precision. No salt to force flavors, but harmony. A true explosion of flavors. This chef knows what he's doing – he works with fresh ingredients, the right proportions, and clearly with passion. We were surprised that the restaurant wasn't packed. This is so good you'd drive for hours to get there. And it's only half an hour from home. Later, my daughter discovered on the website that it's described as a Grand Café and Restaurant. Honestly, if we'd seen that earlier, we probably wouldn't have gone – we were looking for a restaurant with refined cuisine, after all. But this is no Grand Café with good food. This is a restaurant of exceptional class, with a chef who cooks close to Michelin-star quality. So, a tip: remove the word Grand Café from the website (and possibly from the facade). Or create two separate websites – one for the Grand Café and one for Exclusive Restaurant La Citadel. Otherwise, gourmets will miss out on this gem. We're critical, but this was a real discovery. Truly good food sometimes requires patience – this isn't a place for hasty diners. Someone here cooks with love, and you can taste it in every dish. A gem in Heemskerk. We'll definitely be back.

When you walk in, you receive a very spontaneous and warm welcome. Once I had to make a choice, I sought advice from the excellent service staff, and believe me! I didn't regret it for a moment. The food was absolutely delicious. First, I had a tasting platter, and the salmon bonbon really stood out. It was delicious! Then I had the tournedos with red wine sauce—I've only tried a few red wine sauces that aren't overpowering. This sauce was a perfect match, not overpowering, but with good flavor and texture. Delicious! Then, for dessert, I had a large macaron, and that was also fantastic. Both the food and the service are truly top-notch, and I highly recommend it!

I usually get the tasting menu because it's truly delicious. All the different flavors combine well. The staff is also friendly and gives good advice.

I was very impressed with the lamb fillet; I've never tasted anything like it. The tenderloin on a skewer was also very tasty. The children's menu was extensive, so children are welcome too. I found it a very pleasant restaurant to dine at and I will definitely return.

Too bad that prices have gone up here too...

I ordered a ribeye steak but what I received looked and tasted nothing like ribeye or like beef at all. When I raised the issue, the chef showed me a piece of meat from the fridge and insisted it was beef, not pork — but based on the appearance and taste, it simply didn’t seem like beef at all. You can see on the photo that this is clearly not beef Some of the staff were very friendly and helpful, which I appreciated, but unfortunately not everyone was. Overall, I left disappointed — both with the meal and the way the concern was handled. I genuinely hope this was just a mistake and not a regular experience. I was there before and experience was very good though

Beautifully decorated restaurant on an attractive square in a new residential area. The atmosphere and decor of the restaurant is more overwhelming than the food. Not really bad, but not really great either. The fish bonbon beforehand was more of a salad with salmon on top. But too much dressing so you can no longer taste the salmon. No shrimps or eel were found in the salad under the salmon, it was stated on the menu. Maybe forgotten. Main course duck breast with orange sauce. It was really too tough and had little taste. I understood that the meat comes from a good butcher from Beverwijk. Perhaps you should ask how you can best prepare this meat and get more flavor from it. We didn't have dessert, but opted for coffee. The service, especially the blonde lady, is top notch. Enthusiastic, keeps a close eye on everything and creates a good atmosphere. Now we have a chef who gives that extra push to this nice restaurant.

Wonderful evening with good food

Nicely decorated, accessible cafe/restaurant. An easy destination for a nice dinner for people from the Broekpolder district. The range of dishes and drinks is creative and diverse. The interior is cozy and warm, you do not feel like you are in the middle of a new modern residential area, but more in a cozy old city center.

Had satay. The satay sauce looked like water, so thin. There was also a bowl of ready-made salad that was not tasty. Previously, this was always tasty raw food. Just bad for the money.

Delicious food and very friendly staff. The starter in particular was excellent! However, the dessert menu was a bit monotonous, which was a shame.

The food is super good, the meat was cooked well and tasted excellent. The staff was also very friendly. The only thing that was a bit less was the dessert, we ordered Dame Blance and it was good, but in our opinion it was vanilla ice cream with warm chocolate sauce and this was more of an ice cream cake, but yes, tastes differ. The atmosphere is great, so a big 4.5 stars from us.

A nice gem in this corner of Heemskerk. I had a very tasteful tuna steak outside on the terrace. The staff was genuinely friendly. Too bad smoking is still allowed on the terrace.

July 25, had a delicious meal at La Citadel, nice girls in the service and a very tasty meal, worth repeating!!!

Just like the design of the building, a nice attempt, but it is not right. The flavor of the eel could not be found in the fox bonbon due to the overload of lettuce and sauce. The tuna was well cooked, but the structure was wrong, as was the taste. All in all, it looks like it but it isn't.

Ate here twice last week. And what difference do you notice in operation? The owner was very helpful, but there was a waitress on Wednesday evening and a clerk on Thursday. Waitress was pleasant with customers and provided excellent information. For example, a couple wanted Beef Wellington and then they wanted sateh. The question was 2 or 3 skewers, with the comment that 3 might be too much because Beef Wellington is heavy as before. SUPER! (There should be more of that!) Servant Thursday brought food and drinks to the table, but misses that open and jovial attitude. Food is fine. 1 chef may be a bit small for so many tables, but it is more than worth the wait. Tournedos perfectly cooked, pork tenderloin with brie and peanut sauce, the same. RECOMMENDED!! Excellent parking space, pleasant atmosphere. (perhaps the ambiance should be extended to the toilets) WE will definitely come back. I am still curious about the post "miscellaneous cuisine" WE will definitely come back!

You can enjoy delicious food here It's not much, and you have to be very patient Having to wait more than an hour for your food after ordering is too long for me Fries for 4 people in 1 bowl and 1 bowl with a small amount of mayonnaise (a bowl the size of the bowl of mayonnaise at Mac or B king) I asked if this was for 1 or more people, but this was it... Not much salad or vegetables on the plate either 3 out of 4 people would have gone to B King if the square had not been closed The men's toilet smelled very much like fries!! The service was nice, but not again for a while

Extremely friendly staff and the food is simply delicious. The staff gives you space to eat in peace. Come and ask if everything is to your liking and give the table space again. That's very nice, instead of being asked every fifteen minutes if you need anything. Definitely worth repeating this restaurant!

The restaurant is even more beautiful in real life than in the photos and has ample underground parking space under the Vomar for the entire evening. The best food in Heemskerk!!

Rented the front of the restaurant for an anniversary. Very good location for 20-50 people. Everything is there, bar, standing tables and seating areas and everything can be arranged. Very experienced and good service available. Recommended for a delicious dinner and a fun party.

The Duo fish starter for 2 is recommended. The changing plate menus are also recommended. For each his own.

Heerlijk gegeten en hele vriendelijke bediening

Altijd heerlijk eten van top klasse! De huisgemaakte Crème Brûlée is echt mijn favoriete toetje. Chapeaux naar de Chef kok en de hele vriendelijke bediening!

Cosy ambiance, good food and friendly staff. The girl who served us told us passionately about her ambitions in life and her studies which was nice to hear. I asked for my dish to be served without fries and instead got more vegetables.

Heerlijk met de familie daar met zijn 10en gegeten wij gaan daar zeker nog terug om daar weer te eten.

Gister met een vriend wezen eten. Meestal heb ik bij restaurants dat ik denk dat ik het thuis beter kan maken maar in dit geval was het vlees, de groenten en patat perfect bereid. Complimenten aan de kok(s). Ook bediening aardig. Prima avond

Heerlijk gegeten met 8 personen aan een ronde tafel dus konden gezellig met elkaar praten. Al het vlees was super mals of je nu saté of ander vlees had. Personeel was heel vriendelijk en restaurant ziet er gezellig uit. Zeker een aanrader en komen zeker een keer terug!!!!

Afgelopen zondag heerlijk gegeten bij La Citadel. Mooi opgemaakte borden, heerlijk eten en zeer vriendelijke bediening.

Tip van vrienden van ons, heerlijk gegeten o.a. tournedos & sate. Voor herhaling vatbaar. Tevens lekker blond abdij biertje op de tap.(abdij Egmond).

Vanavond lekker gegeten hier. Vriendelijk personeel, ruime kaart. Echter bij Ierse ribeye verwachtte ik rundvlees. Dit stond niet op de kaart gespecificeerd, en ik kreeg varkens ribeye. Was lekker, maar niet wat ik verwachtte. Volgens de chef in de keuken bestaat varkens ribeye niet en was het echt rundvlees. Yeah right

Jong personeel en vlot. Goede smaken en ruime porties. Lekkere bieren en ruime keuze aan drank. Ben je in de buurt zeker even langs komen.

Gisteravond(vrijdag) hier gegeten. We hadden tournedo met gorgonzola korst. Het vlees was botermals en heerlijk van smaak. De groente was vers, klein gesneden en nog knapperig. Ook die was verrukkelijk. ( Had ik wel wat meer van willen hebben!) We kregen er frietjes bij die in een v vorm was gesneden en ook die was precies goed. Lekker gekruid en goed gebakken. Het personeel was erg vriendelijk. Kwam diverse keren vragen of het allemaal smaakte en dacht mee met ons over onze keuze op een vriendelijke positieve manier. We zaten eerst buiten en toen het te koud werd konden we gewoon naar binnen. Er werd een tafeltje vrij gemaakt en we konden daar ons desert eten. Ik had de tiramisu een echte aanrader. Mijn man vers ijs. Ook dat was lekker van smaak. We hebben een heerlijk ontspannen avond gehad en het is zeker voor herhaling vatbaar. Ik kan het iedereen aanraden.

Heb vanavond hier voor het eerst gegeten. Ik kan niet anders zeggen dat de super gambas heerlijk waren. En als hoofdgerecht had ik een tournedos met pepersaus gegeten. En de tournedos was zo overheerlijk mals. Mijn complimenten voor de keuken.
