Italian ice cream that's certainly delicious, but priced as if the cows that gave milk were singing an opera. One scoop for €3.25—enjoy with care. And if you're unlucky, you get a touch of grumpy service thrown in for free. In short: top-notch ice cream, price is au naturel, service… surprise menu.

I agree with the other reviews. The ice cream is good, but the scoops are small (smaller than all the other ice cream parlors I know) and more expensive per scoop.

The ice cream itself is delicious and beautifully displayed. But the PRICES… unbelievable. We thought we'd just enjoy two scoops each, but it cost €14. Absurd. You won't see us again 🫢

The ice cream at Luna Rossa tastes excellent (definitely deserves 4 stars), but it's ridiculously expensive. Two tubs (3 scoops each): €20. That's more than twice as much as the best ice cream parlors in (for example) North Holland. The price-quality ratio is completely off. Therefore, the final score is two stars. They won't be seeing me again. Greed is ruining this place.

I've waited a long time to write a review, but I've reached boiling point. I've been living in Maastricht for a while now and just returned from a holiday in Italy, which has only heightened my frustration. It's almost criminal that you pay €7 (!!!) for two scoops of ice cream here. A scoop here is €3.50 (!). It's indefensible that inflation might be a factor. Don't steal from your own wallet and don't get a (well-deserved) ice cream here. The ice cream is good, but that's about it. When you go to one of the better ice cream parlors in Italy and think you're going to pay top dollar, you're surprised when the lady behind the counter recommends two scoops because it costs €3.50 (!) for two. A scoop there costs €1.75 (!). €3.50 for two generous scoops of ice cream—much larger than Luna Rossa serves, which are quite small, after all—that taste even better than at LR. It's absolutely ridiculous what they dare to charge at Luna Rossa. It's a tourist attraction where you get an extra surprise at the checkout when they announce the price. Secondly, you're disappointed by the size of the scoops. It's almost not hyperbole that you have to grab a magnifying glass because you can't believe how small the scoops are compared to the exorbitant price. The prices are posted on a sort of board on the wall opposite the ice cream display cases. Cleverly and obviously well-reasoned by Luna Rossa. Finally, the service has been terrible the times I've been there. Imagine if they performed something like a circus act before you were handed your ice cream, then the price might be justifiable. However, they take your order with a long face and almost a sigh. Other ice cream parlors in Maastricht charge an average of around €2.50 per scoop. Still not cheap and hard to justify, but when you want to treat yourself: “Oh well.”

This ice cream shop is one of the better ones. However, What happened to the ice cream prices?!? 7 euros for two scoops, might be my ignorance but it does take out the pleasure of going for an ice cream.

So we were extremely disappointed. The price/performance ratio is completely off. Small scoops at exorbitant prices (3.50 EUR per mini scoop). Mediocre quality. Cappuccino served in a paper cup. No seating. We will not be returning. It's incomprehensible that travel guides recommend a visit to this ice cream counter (you can't really call this place an ice cream parlor).

It is indeed a nice ice cream parlor...but very expensive...mini bowl with 2 small mini scoops with very little whipped cream and that 2 times 17 euros 🙈 I thought the bowl was made of gold🙈

What a delightful surprise Luna Rossa is! From the moment you walk in, the beautiful presentation of the ice cream immediately catches your eye—each flavor is a work of art. I went for a cone with a scoop of Dubai Chocolate, and wow… the flavor was truly amazing. Rich, creamy, and perfectly balanced—you can taste that this is artisanal ice cream. The price-quality ratio is also excellent. For €3.50, you get a beautiful cone with a generous scoop, which I certainly don't consider expensive considering the quality and the experience. The staff was friendly and really took their time, which made the experience even more enjoyable.

As Italian one of the worse ice cream experiences ever! My friends worked at this shop and for them it was a nightmare working for them, they mistreat their workers and do not care about the quality of their products. Never again!

If you open your business in a country where Dutch is spoken, you will not display your price list in only Italian. point 2: 1 cone 3.25 with 1 ball / if you want an extra ball you pay 6.5. A beautiful little ice cream shop. The ice cream is also beautifully presented in the windows. When you are asked which flavors you want, you see so many delicious flavors. I had a small bowl with 3 types of red fruit ice cream and a dollop of whipped cream. This was a 10 together. .90 euros!!!!! This was very expensive for that small bowl. There was no sauce and not even a small cookie, something you normally get everywhere with a bowl of ice cream. Very unfortunate because for that price (3 scoops for 9.50 !!!! Plus 1.40 for whipped cream) I get a large coupe of ice cream with lots of ice cream, fresh fruit sauce and whipped cream and a cookie.

Completely overpriced for a mediocre product. €4 per scoop! How can it cost over 3x as much in Maastricht than better ice cream costs in the centre of Rome? Well, the main aim is either to help the tourists spend their money by not letting them know what it costs until they have to pay; or they have extortionate overheads like the rest of Maastricht's inner city cafes and need to cover their costs. If you find you really want an ice cream in the centre of Maastricht, remember they have a near monopoly so you have no choice but to pay for this stuff. It is very popular and there's a constant flow of clients so price and quality don't matter to everyone.

Tastiest ice cream in Maastricht and surrounding areas. Here you can still taste the craft of ice cream making. Really high-quality Italian ice cream, with a unique presentation. Craftsmanship for a fair price! Personal favorite is the Luna Rossa.

Unfortunately Google says they are open, but we were faced with a closed door on Wednesday evening

3 containers, 2 containers with 4 small scoops, and 1 container with 3 small scoops of ice cream, so 11 scoops in total for € 25.50. They have gone completely crazy here, and then on Ascension Day, a day with many Belgian and German visitors in our city, there are 2 very young girls who don't even speak Dutch working while they cannot handle the crowds due to the language barrier. In short, I will never come there again!!

Beautiful shop, lots of choice and beautifully prepared ice cream to tempt customers, but that is of course not what it is all about. Most flavors are very disappointing: there is a lot of decoration on top, but in the end it does not end up in the bun. The ice cream itself turns out to be mainly vanilla ice cream with something mixed in. Not much flavor and certainly not Italian gelato. Also way too expensive: €3 for a small scoop.

Ijs is wel degelijk lekker, maar mini bolletje ten opzichte van maxi prijs ( zes kleine bolletjes voor €18) is twijfelachtig. Daarbij bediening die gewoon geen Nederlands verstaat maakt dit een afrader.

Luna Rossa is een tourist trap! 3€ voor een bolletje ijs is belachelijk en zelfs richting oplichterij gaat. Prachtig gedrapeerd ijs gedecoreerd met glitters moet een hoge kwaliteit uitstralen. Smaak is echter niet bijzonder. Ik vond het erg teleurstellend en veel te zoet. Het zijn allemaal pasta’s van een bekende Italiaanse fabrikant waarvan ik de naam hier niet noem maar waarvan ze in het MECC wel weten waar het vandaan komt.

I was so excited when I was inside the 1st time. The man behind the counter was very helpful and patient. I order 2 milk shakes and both of us was happy with the results. So went back again the next day (today). 2 girls was behind the counter this time. Order the same drink. But this experience was different. I paid for a full cup, but when walking out realize that the cup was only half full. Being a tourist. I assume this maybe normal practice. But i have to say. A full cup would have been the proper think to serve. So, I am giving a less then 5 rating. Just recommend you look first before paying.
