What an amazing wedding venue! From the very first moment, we felt incredibly comfortable at Grand Café Borg Nienoord. A year ago, we came here for our first meeting and we knew it right away: this is the place where we want to get married. The beautiful location and the atmosphere were exactly what we were looking for. Everything was also wonderfully taken care of on our wedding day itself. The staff was friendly, cheerful, and incredibly hospitable. Not only we, but also our guests truly wanted for nothing. Everything was well organized, allowing us to fully enjoy our day ourselves. The BBQ was delicious, with plenty of choices for everyone, and we received nothing but positive feedback about that as well. We look back on a fantastic day at a beautiful location. Everything was just right, and we really couldn't have wished for anything better. ❤️ Grand Café Borg Nienoord, thank you for contributing to a day we will never forget!

A toasted sandwich was ordered. It was fried in old oil, causing the entire bread to be soaked. Naturally, it wasn't eaten, but because some of it had been eaten, half of this very nasty, so-called toasted sandwich had to be paid for. The arrogance of the staff was a shame.

Beautiful location. Shame about the service. If the wait staff walks past a table full of empty glasses and plates 7 times (counted) and heads back to the kitchen with an empty tray, something is wrong. It wasn't busy, so that can't be the reason. As a result, the terrace wasn't inviting. The BBQ and other unused equipment standing in the way also contribute to this. Next time we will go somewhere else. It is also a shame that the kitchen wasn't open.

Last month, we were guests at a wedding at Landgoed Nienoord. Let me start by saying: the exterior of the building is beautiful. The garden and surroundings are also atmospheric and well-maintained. The location absolutely has charm and potential. Unfortunately, that impression changed as soon as we entered. The entrance looked messy and unkempt. Boxes, glassware, equipment, and all kinds of loose items were visibly displayed. Instead of a representative wedding venue, it felt more like a storage room. The worn red carpet, dirty windows, dust, and lack of attention to detail also did not contribute to a polished first impression. What was particularly disappointing was the hospitality. In addition to young staff, there seemed to be a core group present, but it was precisely there that overview, energy, and ownership were lacking. Good hospitality is about more than just serving drinks: it is about anticipating, cleaning up before it becomes a nuisance, sensing the guests' moods, and ensuring everything runs smoothly. That coordination was barely visible. The food, unfortunately, was the biggest low point. The barbecue was positioned right in the middle of the guests, directly by the doors to the terrace, causing a lot of smoke and smell to linger around them. The meat was of mediocre quality: dry, tasteless, and partially burnt. The buffet looked meager, emptied quickly, and was barely replenished, except for some fries. Ultimately, there was simply too little food. Only after insisting did something extra arrive, but that too was gone just as quickly. As the dinner progressed, the staff became increasingly absent-minded. When it became clear that there was a shortage of food, the team failed to adopt a professional attitude. There was no clear explanation, no solution, and above all, no sense of responsibility. Ordering or receiving a new drink was also not straightforward; it was met with an irritated look rather than hospitality. The staff gave the impression that they had lost interest. It was also striking that the owner of the venue left just before dinner. Apparently, this was done with confidence in the evening shift, but precisely after that, the quality seemed to completely collapse. The evening shift was visibly slacking off. For a wedding where guests and the bridal couple are entirely dependent on the venue and the team, this falls far short of expectations. The dessert, too, did not live up to what one would expect from a professional wedding venue. The presentation was simple and poorly presented. Moreover, throughout the evening, empty glasses, bottles, and dirty plates were left standing for too long, causing the space to become increasingly messy. The banquet hall itself was perfectly usable, but even there, it partly felt like faded glory. Once again, there were items that resembled storage rather than a carefully arranged party venue. The way glasses were rinsed also did not look professional and raised questions about hygiene and procedures. My advice to couples considering Nienoord: look beyond the beautiful exterior and surroundings. These are undoubtedly strong, but a successful wedding also stands or falls on hospitality, organization, food, hygiene, and attention to detail. On those points, our experience unfortunately fell far short. What makes it even more bitter is that, as a wedding guest, you have no choice. During a regular visit to a restaurant or bar, you would simply leave in such a situation and have a drink or meal somewhere else. That is not possible during a wedding. As a party, you are dependent on the venue. Precisely for this reason, an extra responsibility rests on a wedding venue. In our experience, this position of dependence was not taken seriously enough. That is a shame, because the venue has a lot of potential. But that potential requires an operator and hospitality team with experience, passion for the profession, sharpness, and the willingness to invest in quality. Based on our experience, the label “Top Wedding Venue 2026” therefore does not feel justified. A beautiful exterior alone does not make a top wedding venue.

A very beautiful location to stop during a bike ride or walk. Also a nice place for parties and weddings.

Went here for a wedding last week. The staff were super friendly and welcoming, the location was fantastic, and we simply had a fantastic day.

My son and daughter-in-law got married there. What a beautiful venue, truly regal! The food was delicious, and everything was perfectly taken care of. Truly an unforgettable moment!

Beautiful terrace Not always open

We celebrated the most beautiful day of our lives here. A truly fantastic wedding venue, perfectly organized, yet with complete freedom to tailor it to your wishes. All of this was made possible by Jacob's personal guidance. We were able to celebrate our entire day at Nienoord, which included some truly special photo opportunities (e.g., the shell house and the balcony) and excellent food and drinks. We would recommend Nienoord to any engaged couple. You absolutely won't regret saying "I do" in the Knight's Hall.

If I could give 6 stars, I would. Had high tea there today. Something went wrong with the reservation, so they hadn't prepared it. But it was resolved anyway, even though we were the only ones there. It was, in a word, amazing. As you can see from my reviews, I've had many high teas, but this one is definitely in my top 3. Exactly what you'd expect from a high tea. Savory and sweet. Everything was equally delicious. The staff was super friendly and helpful. We'll definitely be back. The surroundings are also beautiful. We went home satisfied 😇.

I was here today for a wedding, and I was a bit skeptical at first. But the hardworking staff really pulled it off. Not once did I leave with an empty glass. Keep up the good work! You're doing a great job!!

Great place to experience a wedding celebration.

The website shows a different lunch than what they actually serve, but it does say that lunch isn't served during busy periods. Now, there was only one other table occupied, and it wasn't busy at all, so the lunch menu was very limited. The service was also terrible. You want the best for the customer, don't you? A cappuccino was available, but a latte macchiato wasn't, and what do you get in response? I have no idea why. I've only just started working here. You go to your manager or team leader, but this was truly awful. I'll never come back!

We recently got married here, and we're thrilled with how the Grand Café Nienoord team arranged everything. I highly recommend this venue to future couples looking for a smaller wedding venue. Jacob and Ciska, thank you so much for all your help!

Time for a new chef and a makeover

We got married in Leek, Groningen, at Grand Café Borg Nienoord, and what a fantastic choice it was. The venue is truly stunning, both inside and out, and everything was perfectly taken care of. Jacob and his team were fantastic: incredibly friendly, professional, and always willing to help. You could tell they have a wealth of experience with weddings; everything ran smoothly yet was so relaxed. Rain or shine, they always have solutions and options. We felt incredibly welcome and cared for throughout the day and would highly recommend this venue to anyone.

What incredibly bad service! This is definitely the last time we've been here. Our previous experiences were already bad, but we thought we'd give it another try. The staff seem to hate customers.

Young employee who really had no idea how to work in the catering industry, putting glasses with full hand on the top, serving coffee with a foot bath, not friendly. Apparently not responded quickly enough for Jacob's taste in response to a request for more information. Too bad to immediately receive an email in which he expresses his dissatisfaction, instead of asking whether I am still interested. I completely understand, after all, it was already a whole week ago that I left you my contact details. Here, no interest in a location that claims to attach great importance to hospitality and deals with interested parties in this way. Let alone that I would want to get married at your location. 0.0 understanding that a choice like this was not made overnight. Good luck, hopefully you can be more flexible with people in the future!

Very nice old country estate. Had a wedding anniversary there. The catering was top. and atmospheric surroundings.

Na een teleurstellende ervaring toch maar weer eens geprobeerd. Het is en blijft een prachtige locatie. Helaas duurde het (weer) vrij lang totdat ik opgemerkt werd. Daarna bestelde ik koffie en een broodje met geroosterde kip en sla. Mag ik bruin brood, vroeg ik. Zeker, was het antwoord, we hebben alleen maar bruin. Mooi. Niet lang daarna kreeg ik koffie en het broodje. De koffie was prima. Het broodje smaakte ook heerlijk maar het was geen bruin brood. Raar. ik peuzelde het op, maar toen de dame het lege bord kwam ophalen zei ik er wel wat van. Ach ja, dat is waar ook, zei ze, wat onhandig, sorry, mijn fout. Wilt u een drankje van de zaak? Prima opgelost dus. Ik kom weer.

Het mag dan een prachtige locatie zijn maar dan houd het ook echt op. Gisteren wilden onze dochter en schoonzoon ons trakteren op een koffie en appelgebak. Bij binnenkomst amper begroet. We hebben 3 kwartier moeten wachten op onze koffie en gebak. Terwijl er maar 1 vrouw en haar kleindochter zat. Het duurde zolang voordat er iemand kwam dat we er zelf maar heen gelopen zijn. Kwamen we erachter dat er geen appelgebak was maar wel frambozen kwark en citroenkwark. Het gebakje was zeker niet vers. Heel erg jammer ook omdat we er dichtbij wonen maar ons zien ze er zeker niet weer.

We had a high tea with 11 women. Everything was perfect: the decoration of the tables, the crockery and everything we were served. The gluten and lactose free food, from 1 person, was also excellent. She also got a nice etagère. We had a wonderful afternoon!!! For which we thank you again!!

Two years ago the high tea was fantastic with delicious scones and real sandwiches as it should be. Now it was a disappointment. 3 small pieces of a wrap, mini sandwiches and a flat scone for each that was cut in half. Wholesale sweets and donuts cut in half. Very economical. If you don't go for quality, then this is okay, but this was definitely not the high tea I was used to here and actually not a high tea as it should be. High tea has become more expensive in those 2 years. I wouldn't mind if it was still that good. Now I advise against it to everyone. You're in a nice place here, but I'm only coming back for a cup of coffee after a walk around the borg.

There needs to be people working here who know how to operate...

Was closed for a wedding, could not go, not indicated on the website! Also had to walk there from the parking lot. No one spoke to us inside or was able to help us, very poorly!

Ik kwam hier omdat ik hoorde dat er na een brand veel minder bezoekers op het landgoed kwamen en ik goede ervaringen had in het cafe-restaurant van de borg. Helaas. Het duurde erg lang voordat er iemand kwam. Te lang. Op suggestie van andere gasten ('de bedienimng hier is naatje" ) ben ik maar naar binnen gegaan ." Er kamt zo iemand." Dat was zo. ik had zin in wat eten . De kaart meldde enkele heerlijkheden. Helaas. " Luchtijd is voorbij". "Is er dan niets te eten? "" Bitterballen en taart. " De tijden van lunchtijd stonden niet op de kaart, dus zo gek was mijn bestelling niet. ik heb wat gedrondne en ben weggegaan. Jammer.

We stopped there for some food. The place has a rustic appearance and is cozy. The staff is accomodating and we felt very good. Nice experience.

Enjoyed an atmospheric performance by the Caucasian Men's ensemble. This location is very suitable for such an event.

Sommige gerechten waren niet gaar. En vond ik niet lekker, maar dat is natuurlijk persoonlijk.

Een stijlvolle locatie voor je bruiloft. Trouwen op een historische plek op een landgoed.

Lekker eten en een prachtige locatie

30 juni 2023, waren wij 45 jaar getrouwd. Deze dag wilden we vieren in Nienoord. Koffie, lunchbuffet, varen, borrelen en dinerbuffet. Dit met 10 volwassenen en 5 kinderen. Geen gastvrije ontvangst, lunchbuffet was te laat en niet compleet. Tijdens het varen waren de consumpties niet aanwezig,. ( wel afgesproken) Bij de borrel, was de wijn niet koud , en het bier niet koud. Bediening was slecht, verkeerde drankjes geserveerd. Het dinerbuffet was slecht, de vis was droog, de kip ook, de quiche was uitgedroogd, het eten was niet lekker. Een teleurstellende catering, op een voor belangrijke dag.

Hygiëne laat veel te wensen over

Mooie omgeving, aardig personeel. Lunchgerecht onzorgvuldig opgemaakt. Weinig smakelijk. Kwaliteit van de ingrediënten kan veel beter. Eten zou creatiever kunnen.

tijdens een wandeling langs Nienoord en dacht ga even aan voor cappuccino. Het lijkt mij voor de bediening de normaalste zaak dat wanneer er iemand net zit, je langs komt en bestelling opneemt.... Na 15 minuten zelf maar even gevraagd of ik ook een cappuccino kan bestellen nu ze bij andere mensen stond op te nemen. ja hoor komt eraan......... In tussentijd komen er twee nieuwe gasten en deze krijgen hun thee nog eerder bediend en alles wat er komt geen cappuccino richting mij. ik kijk verbaasd naar de andere klant en hij denk ook t zijne ervan. Dus na 35 minuten maar opgestaan en weggegaan, wat een deceptie. Het is net alsof je lucht bent voor de bediening. Resume drama bediening en gastvrijheid, nooit weer hierheen. Dan beter naar Havezathe Mensinge in Roden, daar wordt je snel bediend, ondanks de drukte, en ook nog heerlijke cappuccino.

Het is een mooie plek om wat te drinken of te eten naar een bezoek aan het museum of naar een heerlijke wandeling in de omgeving.

Op een prachtige locatie en mooi terras kun je heerlijk ontspannen. De authentieke zaal is geweldig en zo sfeervol. Een echte aanrader. Prima bediening en service.

Op de geboortedag van onze moeder (11-03-1932/2023) gaan we traditiegetrouw met broers, zussen en aanhang uit eten. Onze moeder is op 30-12-2020 overleden, dit was ons 2e etentje. Nu op kasteel Nienoord. Eerst een wandeling rondom Nienoord gemaakt met halverwege warme chocolade met slagroom op het kasteel. Daarna onze wandeling van een uurtje en toen ons etentje. Het was heerlijk eten, prachtige ambiance, prima sfeer en een fijn gezelschap. Echt een aanrader om hier te gaan eten.

Prachtige ambiance, je waant je in vroegere tijden. Het jammere was dat het restaurant niet toegankelijk is voor iemand in een rolstoel. Een plank voor de trap moet toch niet zo moeilijk zijn…

Lekker koffie gedronken met een gebakje erbij. Bediening goed, koffie goed en gebak ook. Via het museum kun je regelen om de borg te bekijken, dat is ook de moeite waard.

Wij zijn er met kerst geweest, helaas was er van kerst in de kamer waar wij aten niets te merken. Het eten was niet geweldig, veel gangen met erg bijzondere gerechtjes als een bol geitekaas met wat maanzaadjes en honing, mini kaassoufle en mini eierbal...en de aardappel puree was echt niet lekker en de groenten overkookt. Verder stond op internet dat ze open waren wat dus niet zo was( alleen voor reserveringen) wat resulteerde in boze klanten. Jammer wel.

Heerlijk kerst diner gehad met ons bedrijf

Heel gemoedelijk blij dat we hier waren.2dingetjes: was wel handig geweest als er een klein prullenbakje op tafel stond voor de theezakje, en er stond geen suiker of suikervervanger.

De omgeving en het interieur zijn echt uitzonderlijk. Prachtig!

Ik was er met een groep. Heerlijke buffet lunch, iedereen dik tevreden. Had sneller gekund, maar dat is altijd een lastig punt, is mijn ervaring. Dus: goed eten en redelijke tijd. Prachtige historische plek

Prachtige locatie, maar echt niet druk maar de bedoeling ziet geen mens, de loopen heen en weer zegt niets wij moet wel 35 min wachten voor een langs kom en heb hun al een paar keer geroepen, daar waren ook meerdere mensen moppen De ramen waren echt vies en de grote spiegel in de kamer ook vies. Bezoek valt echt tegen.

Wat een heerlijke gebakjes hebben ze daar! Ze lijken erg zoet, maar verrassend genoeg zijn ze juist heel luchtig en smaakvol.
