Grand Café 'De Markt' in Zevenaar

Friendly service, tasty cappuccino and ice tea.

While it's a nice place to sit, we found it incredibly annoying having to urge the incompetent staff three times to finally bring us a beer we ordered, even though it was relatively quiet. We then received a completely wrong (and far too expensive) bill, which delayed us even further. There are also ridiculously dark restrooms where you can barely see your hand in front of your face, supposedly to enhance the atmosphere. Meh.

Kwaliteit is op zich goed, maar de hoeveelheid eten die je voor je geld krijgt behoorlijk onder de maat. Bestelde een avocadoburger met friet en dat waren er dan een stuk of vijftien hierover klacht ingediend bij de ober maar geen enkele reactie om het dan bij te vullen.

We regularly go to this restaurant, and it's always pretty good. But the second-to-last time, it was significantly worse. We ordered a Pino Colada cocktail. The first one we got was good, the second was terrible and completely different. When we asked, it was a mocktail. We got a new one, and that was okay again. Yesterday was a disaster. Mind you, there was literally only one other couple on the terrace, so it wasn't busy. We ordered a bread bowl, and then a few cocktails. The drinks arrived fairly quickly, but no bread bowl, so we had to ask again. Meanwhile, we ordered our food, and that took quite a while. After more than 20 minutes, we received our food, but no cutlery, so we waited five minutes, still nothing, so we went inside to pick up our order. There were five staff members sitting at the bar, chatting happily! My wife ordered a burger, and it was as dry as a rock, almost impossible to eat, and practically cold. My schnitzel was decent, and the spare ribs were okay. On the downside, there were no wet wipes with the spare ribs, and wiping your sticky fingers and mouth with a napkin wasn't going to work. So we had to go inside to wash our hands. When the waiter came to ask if it was good, we told him exactly what was wrong, and he thought it was a shame. The strange thing was that we saw the waiter walk in where the staff and the owner were standing at the bar, apparently recounting this story. Then another waiter came to take the bill, wished us a pleasant evening, and left. If I, as the owner or staff, had heard something like that, I would have at least asked if we wanted another drink on the house, but not even that. In short, we had to pay €170 for a truly terrible experience, and we felt ripped off. Simply awful, and they'll never see us again!

De sfeer is fijn, inrichting is mooi. Helaas was het niet zo’n prettig avond. Helemaal niks bedoeld naar het personeel, maar het was allemaal nogal onprofessioneel. Ze waren erg vriendelijk en heel beleefd, maar het duurde heel erg lang voordat we bestelling konden doorgeven. 1 van de drankjes werd ook vergeten nader wel snel opgelost. 1 uur gewacht op het eten, terwijl er maar 4 andere tafels bezet waren.. nou weet ik niet hoeveel mensen er in de keuken staan..dus dat vind ik altijd lastig te oordelen. Glazen werden niet opgeruimd. Toen we het toetje hadden.. stonden de glazen en alles nog! We kregen friet te weinig, hierop 2x opnieuw over moeten vragen.. want elke keer vergeten… contact met ze opzoeken was lastig want ze keken helemaal niet om hun heen!! Dat doe je toch in de horeca? Continu opletten en om je heen kijken! Naast dat ze echt wel heel beleefd waren, misten gewoon het stuk je proffesioneler aanpak. Eten was verder erg lekker. Wel Grappig dat je ook red Bull kon bestellen! Zie je niet zo vaak. Wel ongelofelijk duur.. voor de lunch misschien een leuk plekje, maar voor het dinner slaan wij hem de volgende keer wel helaas over .

“De Markt” has been a place for years where you can enjoy good food and drinks for a good price.

This is a super nice and very good grand café, always tasty and good food. The service is super good and very friendly

My wife and I went there for dinner with the kidz. No prices in the menu for the food and the surprise came of course at the end, Nearly 100 Euro for five small drinks and two Kidz menu plus two main courses. The food was alright but very salty and vservice was a bit slow especially as there wasn't much going on.

I have rarely eaten it so salty, both the mustard and the tomato (we couldn't find the basil) soup. That's not good, as we almost all know by now. So above all an encouragement to use more fresh ingredients and fewer stock cubes

We had a birthday party here. Very friendly staff. The snacks were delicious. A separate part of the cafe, so that it was really private.

Tasty lunch and excellent service! The whole thing looks a bit dark and some of the tables are a bit "unhappy". The smooth and pleasant service and the food makes up for a lot. Price/quality excellent!

It took at least 20 minutes before we were noticed. In less than 5 minutes we had left and had already completed our lunch at Bakery Bart.

This tent has almost everything going for it, but it is a faded glory. It's still difficult for them to get into the atmosphere. Prices and little innovation are the causes of this

3 van 5, want sommige dingen waren prima, anderen vielen tegen. Wat mij vooral tegenviel zijn de extra kosten, die je achteraf pas ziet; zo kun je bij je schnitzel saus kiezen (er staat op de kaart schnitzel met saus), maar achteraf wordt er €2,80 per saus afgerekend. De slagroom bij het kinderijsje, die je ongevraagd krijgt (stond er niet bij op de kaart) moet je € 0,90 voor bijbetalen, ze vragen of je ketchup en mayonaise erbij op tafel wil en ook deze blijken achteraf per bakje €1,30 extra te kosten. Het gaat mij niet om de bedragen, maar om de manier waarop. Wees er gewoon heel duidelijk over dat die dingen extra geld kosten. Dit is erg jammer. Wat wel goed was was de wijn en de Texasburger; die waren helemaal prima! De bediening was beleefd en goed en ook op de versheid en bereiding van de maaltijd was niks aan te merken. Toch zou ik door de eerstgenoemde dingen misschien niet meer hierheen gaan.... Het was ook nogal prijzig voor onze portemonnee. (Wij hadden gespaard om eindelijk een keer met Kerst uit eten te kunnen en zo'n ervaring is dan erg jammer).

Wat een fijne gelegenheid. De sfeer is gezellig, het eten is goed, en de bediening, erg vriendelijk. Gisterenavond geweest met vrienden, we komen zeker nog eens terug.

The food is always delicious, tasty cappuccino, friendly staff, we even got a bowl of water on the terrace for our dog without asking for it, that's what I call service and very attentive from the young man who served us..

You pay top price for supermarket quality. Please don't go here, you are wasting your money.

Disappointing lunch…. Went to dinner once before and apparently there was a different chef... At least that is what one of the employees indicated after having filed a complaint a few times (while we believe that the concept should always be the same even if there is a different chef present). Ordered 2xCarpaccio and hot meat sandwich, unfortunately there was nothing on the carpaccio, only some sauce and two leaves, they indicated this and they did nothing with it. We also had a sandwich to finish, unfortunately it seemed as if the sandwich had not been baked. This was also indicated but nothing was done with it. We were also disappointed with the price of lunch: 2 carpaccio and a hot meat sandwich with rolls and 3 cokes, we lost €70…. If I go somewhere else I can get a starter and a main course for 3 people for just over €100!! Then this is worth the price!!!! And especially what you get here (actually nothing at all because you leave hungry)

Sinds jaren ‘90 hier altijd prima gegeten. Niet goedkoop maar dat was goed te rechtvaardigen. Die rechtvaardiging is er helaas niet meer. Onze meest recente ervaring (3 volwassen en 1 kind (11 jaar)… Kindermenu: €15,95 voor een beetje friet met een frikandel en appelmoes!? Nogmaals, €15,95(!) voor een beetje friet met een frikandel en appelmoes!? Aanvullend: - broodplankje vooraf (€8,75) - saté €25,75 - schnitzel €24,95 - spare-ribs €26,75 Totaal ruim €102,35 (exclusief drank) En dan ook nog een klein bakje friet met z’n 3-en moeten delen. Ja, het was lekker. Maar toch was dit voor ons de laatste keer. De absurd hoge prijzen vallen ver buiten de geleverde kwaliteit aan eten en service.

We didn't eat there but there is a nice menu. Had a nice glass of wine. Very friendly staff. Lovely outside on the terrace.

We had not made a reservation on Monday and yes there was still a spot and it was pleasantly busy. There was a 3 course menu for 30.95 pp and it was really worth it. Starter of tomato and basil soup gratin champions Main menu schnitzel and pork tenderloin with plenty of vegetables, fries and fried potatoes Dessert ice cream, coffee and chocolate. The service was correct and friendly and good explanations and I therefore give 5 stars with full conviction and can definitely recommend it, price and quality are in excellent balance.

Quick lunch. Simple bite due to my own (temporary) limitations. Next time I'll go into more detail! Attentive and friendly service.

Had dinner recently and (even though it wasn't necessarily on the menu) I ate a delicious cordon bleu. Even got curly fries and warm vegetables. Staff served me extremely well. In short, this is a keeper!

Cozy cafe, especially the Westminster Abby (turn left when entering) is very attractively decorated! Excellent menu with snacks, nachos tasted like more, we also liked the snacks! Service is very friendly but sometimes too busy to serve both parts (the abby and café). Definitely recommended, and will definitely come back here!

Met alle respect maar het personeel is echt niet geschikt. De dame die ons ontving wel zeer vriendelijk. Maar dan, eerste drankje gaat goed en de menukaarten werden aangereikt. Vervolgens komen er andere mensen binnen en die bestellen volop. Wij werden totaal vergeten. Dus uiteindelijk maar opgestaan om te vragen of wij ook wat konden bestellen.....o sorry helemaal vergeten (alleen dat al)....al net al erg lang wachten en totaal geen aandacht. Vervolgens bestel ik koffie I.p.v cappuccino (mijn fout) voor mijn tante. Dus ben naar het personeel gelopen om de fout door te geven. We maken meteen de cappuccino zeiden ze. Vervolgens weer hetzelfde......wachten wachten....wederom opgestaan.....o sorry vergeten. Kortom laatste keer hier geweest. Met name ook omdat ik dezelfde ervaringen van andere had gehoord.

What a nice place. We sat in a sere near the fireplace. Really a bit of a homely atmosphere. We had a super nice boy who served us. Occasionally took some time for us to have a chat. Food is very tasty. Much variation. You also have the choice of having a three-course dinner. Highly recommended!!

The pinacolada barely had the taste of pinacolada. There was only the taste of ice.

Prijs kwantiteit laat écht heel erg te wensen over. Alles is ook erg duur geworden. Bolletje ijs met aardbeien en slagroom €10,30. Schaam je!!

Lekker geluncht, goeie en attente bediening.

Wij kwamen hier terecht door de goede recensies die het restaurant heeft. Omdat het zonnig weer was, konden we op het terras zitten. Dit restaurant heeft een groot terras op een gezellig plein. We hebben hier een vegetarische burger gegeten. Die was niet alleen mooi gepresenteerd met nog extra groentjes en gebakken patatjes maar bovenal heel erg lekker. De bediening was vriendelijk en attent. Als we nog eens in deze streek langskomen dan zullen we hier zeker weer langs gaan.

Vriendelijk geholpen. Met een grote groep was er veel mogelijk. Eten (dagmenu) werd snel geserveerd. Mogelijkheid om met de groep te overleggen achterin de zaak.

Tenminste water bij je glas wijn.

Matige ambiance. Eten is onvoldoende van kwaliteit en daarnaast opvallend prijzig. Personeel is meer bezig met het kijken van de F1 race op de telefoon; totaal geen connectie. Bij het afrekenen maakte desbetreffende medewerker zelf even uit hoeveel fooi ik ging geven. Tot nooit meer ziens.

Service could improve a little by checking on the customers a little more often. Other than that the waitress was super nice!

Lekker buiten gegeten, fijne zaak

Een verjaardag gevierd van een broer, in afgehuurd café gedeelte, was erg mooi, fijne medewerkers.

De service was prima en we hebben heerlijk gegeten. Dus top.

Gezellig grand café met vriendelijk personeel en snelle bediening.

Helaas viel het tegen. Eten was lauw en mijn ossenhaas was doorbakken wat ik juist niet had gevraagd. In 1.5 uur hadden we alleen voorgerecht gehad. Later kregen we netjes excuus dat het hoofdgerecht niet was uitgevraagd. Kregen daarom 2 drankjes van de zaak. Dat was wel netjes. Duurde ook erg lang eer de tafel werd afgeruimd terwijl we wel zagen dat er constant naar gekeken werd. Dus zelf maar bediening geroepen. Mocht je geen haast hebben en geen hoogstandje verwachten dan prima restaurant.

Gezellige gelegenheid voor lunch en diner. Sfeervolle inrichting en vriendelijk en vlot personeel. Marktconforme prijzen.

Was al jaren niet meer in Zevenaar geweest door werkzaamheden en verblijf in het buitenland. En heerlijk positief verrast door het voor mij onherkenbare centrum. Top, gaan we vaker langs.

Wat heb ik graag als ik uit ga eten? Netheid, lekker, vriendelijke service, betaalbaar. Dat vind je bij 'De Markt'.

Super goede en gezellige cafe / restaurant

Capuccino besteld en direct afgerekend bij ontvangst. Helaas was dit lauw. We hebben hier direct wat van tegen die kelner gezegd, maar er werd jammer iets mee gedaan. Hier gaan we dus niet meer naar toe.

Lekker gegeten, moest wel lang wachten op het eten. Rekening klopte volgens mij niet.

Heerlijk gegeten, vlotte attente bediening. Ruime keuze getapte bieren. Wij komen graag nog terug.

Nice place for drinks or basic outdoor dining in the old market square.

Came for lunch here. It is a restaurant located on a square with many other restaurants. I choose this one because of their seating and vegetarian offerings I ordered a cheese omelette, which was very good.

Na voorgerecht erg lang wachten op hoofdgerecht. Bij navraag bleek de bestelling niet te zijn doorgegeven aan de keuken. Eten was wel van redelijke kwaliteit. Kregen gratis drankje. Bij afrekenen kregen we de verkeerde rekening waarbij we door het personeel werden uitgelachen. We merkten ook om ons heen dat er meerdere fouten werden gemaakt, waarbij zelfs gasten het restaurant verlieten. Tja het personeel had meer oog voor elkaar dan voor de gasten.
