We ate here via a Social Deal. The carpaccio was generously topped and the meat was good. For the main course, we had steak; both medium rare and medium were prepared as requested and tasted great. The herb butter with the steak is highly recommended!! The atmosphere is good, and the staff are incredibly friendly. The food arrived quickly, but if you wanted to wait a little while for the next course, that was possible with pleasant consultation.

The quality of the food and the price are out of balance. Hawaiian toastie 11.50, curry 1.10 extra. Bizarre. Even a baguette with a cold meatball 12.95 euros, a little mayo 1.50. Not bad to pay in itself, but the quality was really bad.

Super breakfast for just €11.75 per person! Where do you find that nowadays? And on a cozy terrace overlooking the Vrijthof, to boot. Everything was included: a glass of fresh orange juice, a delicious fresh croissant, a fried or boiled egg, a tasty roll, butter, ham, cheese, jam, Nutella, and a fresh salad. We even ordered an extra cup of coffee ourselves. Everything was served quickly, was fresh, and tasted delicious. We really enjoyed it. Highly recommended!

I had explicitly asked for a bottle of Spa Blue three times. We have been drinking bottled water at home for 10 years now. The waiter comes with a homemade half-liter bottle with their name on it. I said, I said, I don't want tap water!!! Yes, but this tap water is filtered. No, I want a bottle!!!! What do you think the waiter asked for TAP WATER when settling the bill?? 8 EUROS!!! I HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED A BIGGER SCAM

We had breakfast here; it's a cozy place. They only offer one breakfast option, but you can add extras, which we took advantage of for the two of us. Good quality, friendly service! 👌🥂🍳

Always lovely to be back in the Netherlands, and especially in Maastricht. We had a good meal and the service was fine. Friendly, polite, and fast. Despite the crowds, the food arrived faster than we expected. 4 ☆☆☆☆, so why not a 5? A little more attention should be paid to the toilets. With so many people, people use the toilet frequently. During busy periods, wiping them down every hour wouldn't be superfluous. Otherwise, nothing to complain about.

Worst nachos ever! Fair is fair, the staff is super friendly and fast; you won't run out of food here. Location on the Vrijthof is also good. But the Nacho platter (>€13)......... We were given the last crumbs from the bag, drenched in chili sauce (seriously, a whole lot of chili sauce on a bowl of nacho chips), making it look more like cornflakes. There were also sweet and sour onions on top the size of orange peels...... okay, there was a bit of cheese on top too.

We had both lunch and dinner today. We always enjoy eating here.

Delicious ingredients and atmosphere

On our third of four evenings in Maastricht, we dined at Grand Café Nieuw Bruin. Booked through SocialDeal. The service was generally good. However, one waiter was a bit more accommodating than the other. For my starter, I had tenderloin carpaccio, which was delicious. My wife chose tomato soup. It was good in flavor, but the temperature was below par. For my main course, my wife chose Scottish salmon fillet, which was tasty but slightly overcooked. I chose Irish round steak, which also tasted good, but it seemed as if it hadn't been grilled (no crispy crust). We were allowed to replace dessert with coffee. Portions were just right for us.

Great brasserie! Great service! Superb, super delicious food! I want to come here more often!

Cozy place to sit outside to enjoy (if you don't mind cigarettes smell) We were there during Christmas market Time so it's busy Food and drinks were good. I ordered biefstuk met pepersaus, delicious. Other menu we had Pork sate also good.

Just had dinner at Nieuwbruin. We had a hamburger, steak, and our daughter had fries and a frikandel. Everything tasted great and was neatly presented. The staff was very (child) friendly; it was a pleasant experience.

Not worth it. We initially sat inside near the door, but because of the din of the fan above the entrance, we moved further back. The service was disorganized; when a group came in, three or four people would stand around arguing about where to sit, even though there was plenty of room. Ordering was nearly impossible, and if you managed to get someone's attention, the answer was "I'll send my colleague," but no one came. After ordering, the food arrived quickly. The presentation of the dishes was good; we had a hamburger and a pork tenderloin satay, with excellent side dishes served on a platter or plate. The satay was downright awful; at first, I thought it was overcooked chicken satay, but based on the texture, it must have been pork tenderloin. Someone came twice to ask if it was good, and both times they said the satay was absolutely unacceptable. The answer was, "I'll pass it on to the kitchen." To top it all off, they'd been charged an extra €1.10 per cup for the mayo and ketchup; this isn't mentioned anywhere on the menu, and I find it inappropriate when fries are part of the meal.

I ended up here through a social deal. The menu was supposed to be worth €39. The carpaccio tasted good. The cheese chunks were large. The steak was mediocre. The fries were cheap frozen fries and overcooked. I left them. I ordered mayonnaise and received fries sauce. The vegetables also tasted like reheated frozen vegetables. The dessert cake was also frozen and reheated. The wine was good, and the service was friendly. I didn't think the food was worth ordering in a restaurant.

You know that feeling when you're a tourist visiting a city you're still getting to know? We were looking for a restaurant to eat. Well, we enjoyed it! It was the middle of the Christmas season. The staff was perfectly polite. It's actually a restaurant where tourists can enjoy a proper and delicious meal!

The service was quick, but it was stressful for us. We felt rushed. We were just staring at the menu when they asked what we wanted to drink; we felt so rushed because they kept standing at the table. We also asked for our food six minutes after the drinks service. And the food was already on the table after five minutes. I didn't even have time to finish my aperitif. Every time we put down our cutlery, they assumed we were done and wanted to clear the table. A good tip for the waiters: be a bit calmer and let people look at their choices at their leisure; that's how you chase people away. The meal was salmon fillet with warm vegetables and fries. Unfortunately, the cauliflower, carrot, and long beans were raw and hard, as if they came from a frozen bag. I definitely won't be back here; I'm disappointed with my food because I had to eat in a hurry.

I went for dinner at this restaurant with my partner. We ordered a salmon salad and meat with fries. For drinks, I chose a Pornstar Martini, and that was when the negative experience began and ended up ruining my evening and dinner. The Pornstar Martini served was simply awful. It tasted like orange, when it should clearly taste like passion fruit. The colour was unappealing, and the foam — which is essential for this cocktail — was almost absent and not looking good. It was clear that the bartender lacks the necessary experience, as she does not know that a cocktail must be shaken with ice for at least 20 seconds before being served — in this case, it was shaken for about 3 seconds. I could not drink it. I informed the waitress that the cocktail was not good. She asked if I would like another drink, and I replied that I would check the menu to see other options. However, she never returned to our table to ask if I had made another choice. In a polite manner, I suggested that they consider using the “The Dutch Club” Pornstar Martini. The waitress took a photo of my suggestion and showed it to the bartender, at which point their discomfort and dissatisfaction were clearly visible. The impression I was left with was that they are not open to improving their service, the quality of their products, or accepting constructive feedback from customers. To make matters worse, when it was time to pay, my partner asked for the Pornstar Martini to be removed from the bill, since the drink was not consumed. This request was refused, with the justification that it would be bad for the restaurant, but your priority should be customer satisfaction and avoiding negative experiences like this one — which inevitably result in negative reviews. In short, it was a very disappointing experience, and I left the restaurant feeling extremely upset. I will not be returning and I recommend that others stay away.

Had Limburgs zuurvlees (Limburgish sour meat). I've had this elsewhere too. Here, the sauce tastes like it came from a can instead of being cooked for a long time. It's a shame. The satay was delicious. The service is excellent, and the restaurant has a great atmosphere. We've been here before, and the breakfast is excellent.

I was robbed by the waiters today, November 28th. The waiters are of Spanish origin. I ordered a cappuccino. It was 5 euros. When he brought me the money, he brought me 40 euros. I put it in my wallet because we were talking on the phone. When we left the cafe, I noticed.

We had an exceptionally delicious meal. We're now relaxing with a delicious hot chocolate and coffee. The flavor was just right. The salad/Viennese schnitsel/champignon sauce combo was perfect. The seasonal soup turned out to be pea soup. It was just like Grandma's at home. Compliments to the chef and the professional, friendly staff.

We found a great spot on the heated terrace. Before choosing from the Maastricht menu, we ordered two beers. They were excellent. We chose the Scampi Salad and the Carpaccio for our starters. Our order arrived quickly. My wife also ordered a glass of dry white wine and asked the waiter to wait until we had finished the starter to prepare the main course (this was due to the speed with which the starter was served). This was fine; we had to signal him. The salad was okay, although it could have used a bit more scampi. The carpaccio was covered in so much sauce that you couldn't really taste the meat. We ordered two more wines and indicated we were ready for the main course. The main course for both of us was steak: one without sauce or fuss, the other with herb butter. We requested both steaks "rare," as red as possible. The wine was served, and then the wait began. But just as we were about to ask if our order had been forgotten, the steaks arrived. They looked fine, but we discovered they had cooled down considerably. Well, cooled down, to be precise. The herb butter I put on them wouldn't even melt. I suspect the steaks had been sitting on the counter for a long time before being served. To prevent the food from getting even colder, I decided to eat it anyway. Finally, a server came by and asked if the food was alright. We honestly replied that it had been served far too cold. He immediately started saying there was nothing he could do about it, except reheat it, because I'd already eaten too much. I then told him that we'd ordered the meat rare and that, in my opinion, it wasn't possible to reheat it and keep it rare at the same time. He kept repeating that that was the only thing he could do, and that I'd eaten too much. At one point, I got so fed up with it that I asked him to stop repeating the same thing. He kept going, though. I told him to shut up, and then he told me to act normal. As if it's normal to serve cold food and talk to customers that way. As far as I was concerned, they could keep the steak, and I reluctantly ate my dessert, apple pie. It was warm, though! We paid for the drinks—the food had already been paid for through Social Deal—and left, never to return. The end of a fun day in Maastricht ended with a very unpleasant farewell. The 5 stars for the atmosphere are for the location.

I ordered a chicken club sandwich with fries and salad. It was served on three slices of toasted brown bread. The crusts were still on, and the chicken was lukewarm. A steak knife had been stuck in the middle to keep the "sandwich" together. The fries were hard. Cooking is a skill, it turns out. All in all, a huge disappointment. They'll never see me again.

After an afternoon of "sniffing out culture" at the museum, we concluded our "maatjes" day with a delicious three-course meal at Nieuw Bruin. A real hit!

If you're thinking of coming to Maastricht for good pie and coffee, you shouldn't be here. €44 is way too much for what you get.

Way too expensive for what you get. A baguette with brie and nothing else on it—literally a dry bread roll with a few slices of brie. Everything here is way too expensive for bad food.

Conveniently located on the Vrijthof square, with fast and efficient service, but the prices… 8 bitterballen for €9.95 (€1.24 per bitterball) and then another €1.10 for mustard, which wasn't mentioned but we saw later on the bill. For this price, the sauce should be included. It was nice to sit there for a while, but my wallet had other ideas.

We were here for the André Rieu concerts. All the cafes had the same seating arrangement, long tables where everyone was sitting comfortably. The concert was very easy to follow. We were allowed in at 6:30 PM with the tickets Nieuw Bruin had sent. The food was okay. Not gourmet, but certainly not bad! Good value for money. Don't forget that the concert is also included in that price. Good, affordable wine. The service was excellent. Friendly and fast. I highly recommend booking here for next year.

We had a delicious lunch; it was pleasantly busy on the terrace. The Italian hot chicken was a generous portion and also very tasty. The staff was very friendly. A nice and cozy place to have a drink or a meal.

We had the André Rieux package. Quite a bit of money, but the food was far below par. The carpassio was decent with plenty of seeds, including two pine nuts; a large, decent steak but tough to chew for those with dentures; a small portion of potato gratin and a few tasty vegetables; a piece of cheesecake with a crispy topping, and that was it. The service was sweet and friendly but couldn't make up for the very uncomfortable seating. No, Nieuw Bruin, this was truly the last time.

During our stay in Maastricht we visited this Grand Cafe several times. Very friendly and hospitable staff. The menu is very extensive so you can get everything. We had drinks there on Friday evening and on Saturday evening we had a delicious meal at Nieuw Bruin. The food was of good quality, nice and warm. Really recommended. Compliments to the service, these men work hard and are very friendly. Thank you.

We zijn hier met een groep geweest via een Social Deal-actie (€21,50 i.p.v. €39,90), wat een mooie aanbieding was. Het personeel was vriendelijk en maakte de avond gezellig, dus daar zeker complimenten voor. Het eten zelf was helaas vrij standaard. De carpaccio was overladen met allerlei willekeurige pitten, wat de smaak niet ten goede kwam. De biefstuk was wat taai en pezig, en het dessert maakte verder weinig indruk. Al met al een prima avond dankzij de sfeer en de leuke deal, maar zonder die korting had ik hier waarschijnlijk niet gegeten.

The food itself was unfortunately quite standard. The carpaccio was overloaded with all kinds of random seeds, which did not benefit the taste. The steak was a bit tough and sinewy, and the dessert did not make much of an impression. Also very weak that there was a charge for the mayonnaise. All in all a great evening thanks to the atmosphere and the nice deal, but without that discount I probably would not have eaten here.

Suddenly a bill is on the table. I look up and politely ask "are you closing?", answer: "yes half past 12 is enough like that" in a slightly irritated tone. If you pay almost 10 euros for 2 drinks you expect at least some courtesy towards your customers, otherwise you shouldn't go into the catering industry. I understand that you want to go home but calmly saying that you are closing and asking me to please pay makes a world of difference ;)

Disappointing. The club sandwich minced meat was a real disappointment. For €20 you expect more than a cold meatball (that seemed to come straight from the fridge), dry lettuce and a bottle of mustard on dry bread. This dish was honestly below the level of a sandwich at the gas station along the A2. Shameful that it is served like this. We had the club sandwich, which is really not recommended.

Poor communication between staff. Order was poorly communicated to the kitchen. Didn't get what we asked for. didn't complain about it. The bill came and what I thought was the children's spaghetti had become 2 adult spaghetti. For 2 boys aged 4 and 6. So instead of 12.50, we paid 19.50. But just paid. Got quite a big mouth from the waiter. We didn't feel like having a discussion. Never again at Nieuw Bruin.

Beers are fine. You can't do much wrong either. My wife's mocktail (Pink Gin or something) was quite tasteless. We also ordered the onion soup and the asparagus soup with salmon. The asparagus soup was excellent! The onion soup was a bit too salty and the cheese used for gratin was quite tasteless. Compliments for the friendly service and the option to change babies in both the ladies' and men's toilets.

Grand Café Nieuw Bruin. Op vijf januari heb ik samen met mijn vrouw genoten van een heerlijke lunch bij Grand Café Nieuw Bruin, gelegen aan de Vrijthof 5 in Maastricht. Wat ons betreft een prima ervaring. -Eten en sfeer. We kozen voor de heerlijke verse tomatensoep en de kipsalade, Het was echt heerlijk . De salade was rijkelijk gevuld met verse ingrediënten en perfect op smaak gebracht. De portie was royaal en de presentatie was erg aantrekkelijk. Het was duidelijk dat de keukenbrigade veel aandacht besteedt aan de kwaliteit en smaak van hun gerechten. -Locatie en ambiance De locatie aan de Vrijthof is ideaal, met een prachtig uitzicht op het levendige plein. Het café zelf heeft een gezellige en uitnodigende sfeer. Wij zaten op het verwarmde terras. Binnen is de inrichting stijlvol, maar toch ontspannen, wat het een perfecte plek maakt voor een ontspannen lunch of een gezellig diner. -Service De service was prima. Het personeel was vriendelijk, attent en professioneel. Onze bestelling werd snel opgenomen en geserveerd, en we voelden ons echt welkom. Het was duidelijk dat het personeel veel ervaring heeft en weet hoe ze hun gasten in de watten moeten leggen. -Conclusie Grand Café Nieuw Bruin heeft onze verwachtingen overtroffen. De heerlijke kipsalade, de gezellige ambiance en de uitstekende service maakten het tot een zeer geslaagde lunchervaring. We kijken ernaar uit om hier in de toekomst nog eens terug te komen en meer van het menu te proberen. Een echte aanrader voor iedereen die Maastricht bezoekt!

Last night the two of us had dinner at Restaurant Nieuw Bruin. We ordered two pornstar martinis and two medium rare steaks. After just 10 minutes the food arrived, and we both thought: “How fast!” However, when we cut the steak in half, it turned out to be completely raw (purple). We sent it back to the kitchen, but 10 minutes later we got the same steaks back, now medium well done. Unfortunately it was inedible; it was extremely tough. When we wanted to pay, they initially couldn't do anything about the bill. Only after we presented our arguments did they discuss it and take one steak off the bill. We agreed and left the restaurant. Never again!

Good location, but bad in everything else. Overpriced and served food just moments after ordering, which was not fresh and definitely prepared at least 1 day ago. Rude service as well.

Nous pensions faire une pause douceur, bien que la terasse soit chauffée, seul point positif. Je commande une grande bouteille d'eau et deux crêpes au sucre, on m'amène une bouteille réutilisable remplie d'eau soi disant filtrée, qui coûte 8.20€. J'interpelle le serveur, qui me raconte l'eau eco filtrée ....du coup, je paye 8.20€ pour de l'eau du robinet, dans une bouteille pas très propre, quelle hygiène, incroyable, jamais vu !! Ensuite les deux crêpes arrivent d'une épaisseur incroyable et pas cuites à l'intérieur, inmangeables du mastic ...avec un pot de sucre pas très propre. Je ne vois plus notre serveur pour lui faire part de notre mécontentement, j'interpelle un autre , demande l'addition et lui fait part des crêpes inmangeables qui sont restées sur nos assiettes! Il me répond qu'il faut réclamer plus tôt et m'a compté la totalité , honteux ! 10.95 € la crêpe x 2 plus l'eau du robinet, bref, plus de 30€ à la poubelle. Pas un mot d'excuse RIEN !!!

Carpaccio moest je zoeken met een loep? Vriendin had scampis dat waren 3 garnaatje op droog bedje van sla. 2 x gezegd dat t niet naar wens was dit werd niet opgepikt. Limoncello 3 x besteld 3 x half glaasje hier iets van gezegd werd lachend weg gelopen ja jammer dan. Ober terug geroepen wat hier de bedoeling van was? Of hij dat mormaal vond. Zelf oplossing aangedragen want van hun kant kwam niks! 1 kommetje frieten voor 2 personen. 1x nooit meer . Ps... worden slechte revieuws op social deal weg gefilterd?

We were first placed inside with 7, sat there for about 15 minutes and then we were sent outside because it was not possible. The cafe was not even half full. The least you could say was that they were hospitable.

Cozy place on the Vrijthof where you can eat and drink. Staff were also friendly. Take a good look at the stairwell when you go to the toilet. I really like it.

Came here for dinner on a beautiful Sunday via Socialdeal. Me and my wife went for the carpaccio, very tasty, maybe the salt pot had fallen over here and there, but anyway, it was tasty. I went for the salmon, my wife for the steak, both perfectly cooked, tasty sauces, perfect fries. We replaced dessert with coffee. All in all, a nice meal. Pay attention to the price of the specialty beers, as they are widely discussed.
