Time Out has been the lively hotspot on Poelestraat since 1976, right in the bustling heart of Groningen. From the moment you walk in, you can sense the conviviality: the service is friendly and efficient, ensuring you feel immediately welcome — and all this at an excellent price-quality ratio. The atmosphere is wonderfully casual and always pleasantly busy. Craft beer enthusiasts are in for a treat here thanks to the fun and varied selection. A must-try, and without a doubt one of the highlights of the menu in my opinion, is the sirloin steak (a delicious piece of meat).

Incredibly cozy and lovely Grand Café. You can go there for drinks with a variety of snacks to choose from, or for lunch and dinner. I have been coming here for years and it remains one of my favorite places! Good atmosphere, friendly service 👌

I was there to celebrate a friend's birthday. When I asked if they might want to sing a song, they said, "Yes, fine, but there is a small fee involved." Then the waiter came back with the news that we were too drunk and that, to put it mildly, we had to leave because we had had too much (nobody had had anything at all; we were just happy).

They start off incredibly friendly (hey amigos), but after half an hour the staff no longer feel like serving and send you away.

The beer and food were brought out like a well-oiled machine. A nice place to sit, and to stay from afternoon drinks until late in the evening.

We initially sat on the terrace, but were surrounded by cigarette smoke. Unfortunately, this terrace isn't yet suitable for the smoke-free generation. So we decided to sit inside. It was quiet there at first, but it filled up completely towards dinnertime. Friendly staff. Fast and good service. The food was good. We enjoyed the Burgundian platter together, although the spare ribs lacked flavor. They have a wide variety of specialty beers.

A very strange guy serving. He was grumpy all evening. He ended up walking across the street because a friend of mine wasn't getting any alcohol because he supposedly drank too much (one bottle of wine).

It's always busy here. If you're looking for a friendly atmosphere, go here. The staff is friendly but not overly attentive. I've had to pay double a few times, so be aware of that. Otherwise, it's a nice place to have a drink.

The place is nice but, genuinely 1 star, just because I ordered a 6€ bailys and that shit literally had 3 drops of in a glass..... It's comical at this point ask for it you will see

We had to pay for drinks we hadn't ordered. The service was also completely rude. This place is awful. It deserves to be demolished.

Work lunch for a group of 6. Yes, it was busy, but it took an hour for the food to come out. No one checked on how we liked our food or offered drink refills, we had to refill water bottles in the bathroom ourselves, we had to stack up our own dirty plates. The worst service imaginable. Absolutely do not recommend.

No matter how busy it is, you get your food quickly, and the staff keeps a close and friendly eye on your table. The food was delicious and excellent.

We ate here tonight with five of us. Both the 2 plates of spareribs and the 2 satay skewers were very dry and even almost cold. We reported it, but didn't return the plates (plastic?!) because we had already waited a very long time for the food. We didn't finish everything. What a disappointment! We were offered coffee/tea for the cold food. The service was very friendly, though. But we won't be coming back here.

Had lunch at Time Out today. The lunch menu offers many options and compliments on the prices. The vegetarian/vegan hot dog is something different for a change. Well-filled, and the dried onions remind you a bit of a yellow and blue furniture store, but in a positive way. The toasted sandwich/panni with dried ham and caramelized onions doesn't evoke memories of any other establishment, so it's simply tasty and flavorful. It comes with Turkish bread, which is nice for a hearty appetite, but you do need something to drink with it. Unfortunately, we had to go to great lengths to get a second round of coffee, but despite nodding from the waiter, it didn't work out. We just left. That's why the service score is lower. Maybe it is usually better. All in all, in terms of food, it is highly recommended.

Somehow, we always end up at Time Out during the Siege of Groningen. The food is still fantastic. The service is very friendly. Nice atmosphere.

Incredibly delicious food, friendly and helpful service, and we even come back for dessert after dining elsewhere. A true gem in Groningen's city center!

A good—not overcooked—hamburger with a generous portion of seasoned fries. Excellent! Mine was accompanied by a Karmeliet Tripel (good choice 😄) Service is prompt and correct, but it isn't busy today. Nice spot on the edge of the city center. Highly recommended! PS. Personally, I always find it a bit sour when people complain about slow service on a busy terrace... and then give the whole thing only one star. That wasn't the case today.

that girl called Eva thinks she owns the place and is extremely unfriendly. i feel bad for all the other people working there who are very nice and friendly but she does not make it a good experience. i would not return.

Wat een waardeloze zaak is dit geworden. Eten dat duidelijk niet goed meer was, werd teruggegeven door de keuken met de mededeling “dit hoort zo”. Geen oplossing, gewoon je bedorven eten teruggeven. De andere gerechten waren ook niet bijzonder en zeker niet te vergelijken met hoe het ooit was. Personeel is ongeïnteresseerd. Zelfs bij het afrekenen moet je moeite doen om geholpen te worden. Nooit meer Time Out!

Very bad. Waited an extremely long time for the food, and then it was served cold. We were asked to leave the premises without compensation.

Unfortunately, it wasn't good this evening. Really very disappointed because we used to enjoy coming here. For the kids, they only have fries with a snack... so we came up with something ourselves like a soup with bread rolls and some fries. We asked for extra bread rolls, but the soup already came with bread! So it was too much and therefore not necessary to order extra. (We weren't told that.) As a starter, I was supposed to get small prawns, the waitress said. But they were 6 giant prawns. We ordered everything at once. We were hungry and didn't have the time all evening with 2 kids. There was almost 40 minutes between the soup and our burgers with fries!! I think that is way too long, even for a busy evening. By the time everything arrived, our appetite was gone and we were really out of time. We asked for containers or foil to take it away, but they didn't do that. We did get them after insisting. A real shame for the evening... we won't be going back for a while.

We had a delicious lunch at Grand Café Time Out. You can very easily order your drinks or snacks via a QR code. If you would like to have lunch, you can also request the lunch or dinner menu this way. Perhaps not the most personal method, but when it is busy (full terrace or café), it saves a lot of waiting for service. So, for us, that is a real plus. We enjoyed a delicious mustard soup and a beef burger. The lunch portions are large enough, and there are plenty of choices, though not too many, so it remains manageable. We would love to return to Grand Café Time Out again in the future.

Dit is één van de leukste plekjes van de stad. Toplocatie voor een lekker biertje en borrelhapje met gezellig gezelschap. Hier is de bediening tenminste vlot en vriendelijk. Terras is top: onder de luifel of op het Poeleplein en nog verwarmd op ook👍👍

Super kleine porties voor veel geld, dit was voor ons de laatste keer Time Out. De oude Jager zou zich schamen, dit gooit de goede naam te grabbel.

A great place to spend some time! The staff is very friendly and the atmosphere is great. As you can see on the picture, they make it quite cozy once it starts to gets darker. I personally find the backside of the cafe a nice place for doing some work as well with the outlets available for use and the unlimited supply of good coffee to keep you going. ;)

This week we sat on the terrace in the sun with a friend. We decided to have a bite to eat and then took the surprise menu while enjoying various wines. The atmosphere on the terrace is very pleasant and I am very satisfied with the customer friendliness of the staff. In addition, we were positively surprised by the surprise menu! In short, we had a delicious meal/drink and a nice evening here. We will come back more often!!

Had drinks with 7 people today. At the end of the evening we suddenly find out that 60 euros are charged for the 3L of ijwit tap. That's 10 euros per half liter of dead beer from a tap. Excessively expensive. The bar manager with a short beard hid behind the fact that the "high gentlemen" had determined this price and then we could go. Unreasonable, non-negotiable and that is why I will never come there again.

Arrived a little after one in the morning on a Friday. We were cheerfully welcomed at the door and we looked for a seat. We then sat there for twenty minutes while no one came to help us. At the bar the staff were happily chatting and cleaning. Tables next to us were cleared and cleaned; we were not noticed and not helped. Maybe the last round had already passed? Please report this upon arrival. Now it was a mockery. Worthless to treat guests like that.

Very busy everywhere, which makes sense because the weather is nice on Saturday. Service was fine! We did a high beer, got three beers. First beer was tasty, the rest was actually not that special. They could probably improve on that. For example, we started with a delicious IPA (collaboration between the cafe and the Jopen brewery), then a chouffeje and then a brand Lentenbok, they could have made a more striking structure with nicer (less supermarket) beers or, for example, their own choice of three beers. The snacks that came with it were very tasty, new snacks with every round of beer. The last round took a very long time, something went wrong in the kitchen. The service resolved it well, reported it properly and apologized. Unfortunately we had not been served cheese and sausage, which was included in this package. We reported this and were then offered it. We ordered a beer and a cider. All in all, we had a nice afternoon drinking beers on the terrace. Thank you!

As an older person, you sometimes feel a bit out of place in the student city of Groningen. But in this location you just have to jump over your own shadow and sit among the young people. The service is great once you realize you can order online. The price-performance ratio for the food is completely okay. Highly recommended from my side.

Logic and lack of interest among young staff are missing

I made a reservation here with a group for someone's birthday. Not recommended. Way too busy, they take on too many groups. Then all the confusion about the coins and I was suddenly no longer allowed to buy coins? Eventually again. The owner is not helpful and unfriendly to staff. Not flexible, for example you are not allowed to buy beer towers with coins even though it was said in advance that you could. Not to be repeated.

Mijn broodje geitenkaas was niet lekker. De bediening duurde vrij lang (50 min gewacht) waardoor iets nieuws bestellen geen optie leek. Met trek de deur uit en verspilde centen. Jammer.

What can I say.. Usually very nice experience coming here. However, this time we became sick after one glass from the beertowers they offer. When commenting on this we got no discount or other deal, so we paid 40 euro's for one beer each that got us lying sick in bad..

I was kicked out by Santa Claus who afterwards also started acting tough, even though I had already paid 45 euros for drinks that I had to hand in. I hope to receive compensation for this. Abnormal way of treating you Customers. My friend may have been drunk, but there is a better way to solve the problem instead of sending the entire group out and taking away all the paid drinks. Went to Groningen for 2 days with a friend. We came to this tent on the first day and immediately liked the hospitable and enthusiastic service. We went back on the 2nd day and were greeted enthusiastically by another waitress who recognized us from the previous day without having served us. Also had a nice chat! All in all, we had a great few days here and highly recommended if you want a fun evening out!

Everything exactly the wrong way around...! but it was solved top notch and without any hassle and that is why 4 stars!! There are three of us, a table lady, a table gentleman and me. We order a bottle of Pinot Grigio that we can taste first... all good and then 3x croquette on bread... The bottle of Pinot Grigio was too warm and the croquettes lukewarm.... So everything is exactly the wrong way around. But ... the lady from Time-out who then appeared at the table (manager/owner?) had a new and chilled bottle with her that was exchanged without any hassle.. GREAT! We were very hungry and decided not to return the croquettes (they were still warm/lukewarm)... Please mention this gently at checkout. "You could have reported this with confidence and we would have created new ones with love.. class..!! Dear Time-out, including your beautiful renovated interior and beautiful location in the city center, I believe in your restaurant and that is why 4 stars.... We will come back soon to find out that I am right.... a top location with a culinary experience, right?

Nieuw concept... kleinere porties. Niet geschikt voor grote eters of als je erge honger hebt. Vond de prijs voor de hoeveelheid eten niet in verhouding.

Rare verwarrende kaart met tekst: “Gerechten zijn als tussengerechten en om te delen” Dit is een absurde insteek, je krijgt kleine porties die je dan evt kunt delen met je tafelgenoten. De kwaliteit van het eten was redelijk. Dat compenseerde enigszins. Waarom niet een gewone kaart met normale porties en bijbehorende prijzen. Het is niet echt een feestje als je een klein biefstukje krijgt geserveerd met een soort van gefrituurd koekje. Kaal. En dan wordt het vlees ook nog bijna rauw geserveerd terwijl je medium vraagt. Wel opnieuw geserveerd en toen goed gegaard. Goed opgepakt door het personeel. Hamburger van tafelgenoot was goed. Ook de cheesecake was lekker en normaal geproportioneerd. Dessert, Baba au Rhum miste de Rumsiroop (toch een smaakbepalend ingrediënt) Kortom, wil je gezellig tafelen en genieten van mooie gerechten, zoek een ander restaurant. Ga je wel, vergeet dan eventueel niet de bijgerechten te bestellen.

Druk in TimeOut in Groningen, zeker in het weekend. Gelukkig was er een tafeltje vrij, ondanks dat reserveren van harte is aanbevolen. Ons gezelschap koos traditioneel: drie grote spareribs (20 euro) en een kleine sate (10 euro), plus twee porties friet. Tot zover het positieve verhaal. Toen het eten kwam geloofden we onze ogen niet. De kleine sate was uitsluitend 1 stokje met een hoopje salade en kroepoek. De grote spareribs waren drie stukjes met een brok aardappel. Over de term groot valt te twisten. Navraag bij de bediening over de term groot en klein deed geen goed: "Alles wordt altijd keurig afgewogen" (ofwel: niet zeuren mannen). Ik ken genoeg eetgelegenheden in Groningen waar een grote spareribs anders wordt ingevuld. Onze buren bestelden slimmer: een kleine sate en kleine spareribs. Wat zij kregen? Ook 1 stokje sate, maar wel bijna net zoveel spareribs (op sidedish) zoals wij net hadden gekregen. De bakjes friet kwamen aan tafel zoals op de foto a 3,50 euro per portie. Afgekocht met een kop koffie verlieten we treurig deze tent. Wat een regelrechte aanfluiting, hier gaan we nooit meer naar toe. Gelukkig was de FEBO om de hoek, om uiteindelijk nog een beetje vol te raken.

Je kunt hier prima zitten aan tafels met een groep... Het ziet er verzorgd uit, maar niet gezellig. Bediening wel vriendelijk, maar niet snel of alert te noemen.

Bij prachtig weer een heerlijke lunch gehad op het terras samen met mijn vrouw en onze kleindochter. Leuke kaart, goede prijs en geweldige, relaxte, bediening. Gaan we zeker vaker doen.

'Time Out is dan wel beroemd om z’n spare ribs en saté, en het geheime recept is al zo’n 44 jaar onveranderd' zo staat op de site. Het is dus wel verandert, en zeker niet ten goede. We dachten een borreltje te kunnen drinken en daarna een plate te kunnen bestellen. Dat is er dus niet meer. Alleen gerechtjes om te delen, die helemaal niet deelbaar zijn. Ook nog eens zeer weinig smaak. Snap dat je soms aan vernieuwen denkt, maar dat is niet altijd beter. Blijf gewoon doen wat jullie al 44 jaar doen! Bediening prima trouwens!

Wij hadden een highbeer. Heel erg uitgebreid en erg lekker! Daarnaast ook nog een uiterst vriendelijke bediening! Een aanrader!!

Haben nur einen Kaffee dort getrunken, weil man dort sehr schön sitzen kann. Großes Café mit sehr nettem Personal!

Haben in diesem schönen Etablisement nur Cappuccino und Kaffee getrunken. Dieser war aber grund solide. Service war ebenso gut. Die Speisen an den Nachbar-Tischen sahen sehr gut aus. Preise sind angemessen.

Eten was wel lekker, maar: Wat wel een punt voor verbetering is: We hadden als voorgerecht een broodplankje, deze was nog lang niet op en ze brachten het hoofdgerecht al. Dus het voorgerecht hebben we maar weer mee laten nemen want anders is je hoofdgerecht koud. Slechte timing, het eten had niet opgediend mogen worden zo lang het voorgerecht nog nietop is.

Als lunch een varkenssaté besteld met frietjes. Toen het werd geserveerd schrokken we toch wel een beetje. Eén stokje saté en misschien een stuk of 20 frietjes en dat voor € 17,50. Wat ontzettend karig. Dat waren we beter gewend bij Time Out een paar maanden geleden. De prijzen waren behoorlijk gestegen en de porties aanzienlijk kleiner. De prijs van een biertje was ook om achterover van te vallen, € 5,20 voor een glas Affligem Blond. Na ons beklag te hebben gedaan kregen we als compensatie een koffie en thee aangeboden. Hopelijk worden de porties weer iets rijkelijker, want zo kan het echt niet.

Rommeltje. Chaotische sfeer rondom de bar. Met vijf man achter de bar staan en uiteindelijk een dienblad vol bier omtikken. Bar vol met glazen en kratten in zicht. Locatie is prima, inrichting leuk maar organisatie heeft leiding nodig. Klassieke cocktails zijn niet bekend.

Wat een chaos. Bar mensen die over elkaar buitelen omdat ze elkaar in de weg lopen. Chaotische toestanden. Bar vol met lege glazen, lege kratten in zicht. Cocktailkaart zeer beperkt (de klassiekers hebben ze niet eens). Volgende keer lopen we hier voorbij.

Veel te duur voor matig en te weinig eten. € 11,50 voor één klein hapje zalm! En heb ik nog niet over de rest! De bediening was goed en vriendelijk, maar die bepalen de prijzen dan ook niet..

Cocktails lekker, biertje prima, bittergarnituur en broodje/smeersel lekker. Bediening vriendelijk. Alleen "geen duiven voeren" had op andere toon gebracht kunnen worden. Prijzig.

Service was helemaal top! Snelheid van de bestellingen zijn zeer adequaat. We bestelden bij Jamilla en hadden net afgerekend toen kwam 10 secondes later onze sappies al. Het enige waar ik wat uit op te merken heb zijn de outfits, ouderwetse kleursamenstelling, niet van deze tijd. Kan veel cooler middels andere kleuren en een beter contrast ervan.
