We have been to Happy Italy several times and have always had a positive experience. Unfortunately, our last visit was a huge disappointment. We had made a reservation for 6:30 PM and checked in politely at the entrance. We then had to wait a whopping 45 minutes before being shown to a table. During that time, no staff came to explain why it was taking so long or to keep us updated. Several guests even decided to leave out of dissatisfaction. Once at the table, no one came to take our order, so we eventually ordered via the QR code. That didn't seem to work properly either. The pizzas coming out of the oven were not served on time, causing them to arrive cold at the table. We didn't say anything about this, because we didn't want to wait any longer. Unfortunately, things only got worse after that. We had to wait over 45 minutes for our dessert again. In the meantime, no one came by to ask if we wanted anything to drink or to apologize for the long wait times. By closing time, we were still sitting in the restaurant and had only had a pizza and a dessert. To top it all off, the bill turned out to be incorrect as well. What should have been a fun night out ended in a major disappointment. In the end, we were mainly just glad to be back home. It is a real shame, because based on our previous experiences, we had much higher expectations.

Unfortunately, a disappointing experience. Even though we were perfectly on time for our reservation, we still had to wait 30 minutes for our table. The excuse was that they were running late, but meanwhile, people who arrived later (but had reserved earlier) were given preferential treatment. It is very frustrating to see that the organization is not in order. Moreover, they are missing opportunities here: after all, if we had been seated, we could have already had a drink. It is a shame, because the establishment itself is missing out on revenue this way, while the customer is left frustrated.

Upon entering, there was an argument between two ladies. No one intervened. The plastic plates really need replacing! Deep grooves from cutting. And the tables were not cleared due to a staff shortage. The food was fine. But this could really be better!

Terrible! The food was fine, but the service and atmosphere were an absolute disaster. Plus, weeds growing between the lines up to your knees. Unbelievable. Never again.

We had a good meal and drinks. The only downside is the massive disturbance caused by screaming and shouting children downstairs. I had a table by the window, but it was unbearable there, so I moved to another table.

Yesterday, for the first time in a long time, we ate at Happy Italy in Ambacht. We wanted to sit outside, so we were directed to a table by the window that was even more crooked than the Leaning Tower of Pisa. There was also spilled ice cream on the bench, so we decided to sit inside. The pizzas were fine, large and tasty. The salad with grilled vegetables was very disappointing; it was mostly dry arugula with very few grilled vegetables, consisting of 2 slices of zucchini and 1 large grilled tomato. It's a shame; it looked very tasty in the picture, but it was a real letdown. Fortunately, my table companions had leftover pizza pieces, so I still had enough to eat. The service was friendly and fast.

Food was asking usual like Happy italy style, nothing much, same taste , and too great and not too bad. But the location itself is stunning, wasn't expecting it to be in such a beautiful location and that big building. I would probably come back for the location.

This restaurant doesn't want to be a restaurant anymore. It has turned into a filthy greasy cesspool that wants to put as little effort as possible into its customers. Do yourself a favor and drive on to McDonald's. That is top-class compared to Happy Italy Hendrik Ido Ambacht. A few years ago, there was a line at this restaurant stretching all the way to the parking lot starting at 4:30. Nowadays, that's no longer the case, and that's not surprising. 1. When making a reservation by phone, I was spoken to by a rude person. Extremely impersonal and unpleasant. I indicated that I wanted to sit on the terrace. He said he would take that into account. 2. Upon arrival, it turned out the terrace and the accompanying playground were closed (early July!). Neither is maintained anymore; the weeds are knee-high. So don't expect to be able to sit outside in the summer or for your kids to use the playground. 3. Orders are no longer taken properly. I had to scan a QR code and order digitally. 4. Our food was served on plastic plates that were already half-cut. So, every guest gets free microplastics in their dish. 5. During the meal, I had to go to the toilet with my daughter. When I came back, my table had been cleared. Pizza remnants and half-empty glasses of drinks were gone. The waitress thought I had already left. She had apparently overlooked the fact that our coats, my wallet, and car keys were still there. Probably the fact that I hadn't paid yet, too. 6. By the way, the toilets and play area in the basement are nothing to write home about. The toilet at the average gas station along the highway is more hygienic, the ball pit is filthy, and the downstairs area is hot, stuffy, and cramped. By the way: the pizzas are also a shadow of what they used to be. Nothing Italian about them.

What a terrible experience. You have to order via an app that doesn't work at all. I had to re-add items up to 5 times because they weren't added to my shopping cart. On a hot day, we were all very thirsty, but the large bottles of water were out of stock. I mentioned this to the wait staff, but they couldn't do anything about it. You pay €15 for 4 small bottles of water instead of €6.60 for a large bottle of the same quantity. What a rip-off. The pizzas are mediocre and the pasta tastes like nothing. It's a shame there isn't anything else in the area. When you have unfriendly staff on top of that, the picture is complete. The worst €147 of my life.

This place has been going downhill for years, and the quality is getting worse and worse. Now the pizzas are so small that they practically look like a frozen pizza. And you pay 16 euros for that.

Picked up decent pizzas, not excellent and not bad. Just good and tasty if you're craving pizza. Will definitely come back here again.

Went out for dinner here tonight with family and 2 children. Experience virtually identical to the review below by Vanity. Plus: Had a delicious meal, really top-notch! Minus: - Poor service, mostly busy talking to each other. - Blunt knives, pizza impossible to cut through. - Pizza was served lukewarm; we literally had to wait 15 minutes before the pizza was returned to the table warmed up. This was not due to the crowds but the poor staff. - Watch out people, you get the pizza served on plastic plates. Because of the blunt knives, the plastic comes loose, so you are literally eating plastic along with the pizza. Deep grooves in the plastic plates. - After eating the pizza, waited 20 minutes and had to go looking for staff ourselves to ask if anyone felt like clearing our table before closing time! - Then we were quickly served 2 scoops of ice cream; the taste was fine. Staff offered no apology or anything. - To top it all off, we were asked if we wanted to pay. A price was quickly called out, or I was asked if I could hold my debit card against the machine. I indicated that I am used to simply receiving a bill properly first; this was even met with a surprised reaction. - Upon entering, I immediately visited the men's restroom; what a disaster. Urinal covered in urine, standard toilet splatters of feces on the bowl and wall. No soap available, everything filthy and rusty. I reported it immediately to the staff, who said they would pass it on to the manager and have it cleaned right away. Upon leaving 2 hours later, I visited the restroom again and nothing had changed, only the paper had been refilled, which was now lying on the floor because the trash can hadn't been emptied. I reported it again to the staff, who said they would pass it on. Conclusion: I will probably get the familiar standard response from a manager or manager with rehearsed excuses, and nothing is actually going to change. Everything revolves around cheap staff and generating revenue that way. There are plenty of customers because the price/quality ratio is fine. It was my first and also immediately my last visit to Happy Italy.

What a disgrace. Ordered Pasta pollo fungi, which is basically pasta with mushroom soup. Watery and not creamy at all. According to the staff, that's how it's supposed to be. Unfortunately, it has gone downhill significantly in recent years.

Arrived 20 minutes before our reservation. Purchased a Social Deal as well. We were not received kindly and were immediately told that we REALLY weren't allowed to sit down yet because people with a Social Deal have to wait. Fine, understand. Waited with the children in the playground. Then reported to the counter again. We weren't even recognized anymore and received an ugly welcome a second time. Next, ordered via the QR code. The waitresses were very rude, unpresentable, and were loudly talking to each other about their private lives. They were also talking about other customers, which was heard by everyone. We received our food, during which the wait staff knocked over our drinks, offered no apologies, and quickly walked away. We also received no cutlery and had to explicitly ask for it, after which it was sighed away irritably. Our table was not cleared between the starter, main course, and dessert. Then, we were asked to make room on the table for the next course! Very strange. Again, young wait staff who are not being guided in treating guests in a customer-friendly manner. Next, we were allowed to pay, and "naturally" that went wrong because of our Social Deal vouchers. After which we received disapproving looks from the staff because it took them so much effort to resolve this. I blame this on the management. There is no supervision. The toilets were DISGUSTING, by the way. No toilet paper, the floor soaking wet, and no proper ventilation. A shame. We won't be coming back here. Yuck!

We called and had a friendly man on the line. My daughter and I went there for a delicious dinner that same evening.

The pizzas were unfortunately very disappointing. We ordered 5 pizzas and almost all of them were soggy and wet, like soup. Only the tuna pizza was somewhat okay, but even that wasn't really good. The atmosphere in the restaurant was perfect, though. Unfortunately, after asking 5 times, the pizza still wasn't cut. A shame about the experience.

Went to eat here because my daughter absolutely wanted to play in the outdoor playground. Upon arrival, stood waiting at the door for over 35 minutes without a single “apology for the busyness, I’ll be with you shortly.” There was a particularly grumpy young man at the food counter (which is located right next to the entrance), a bunch of chatty cooks who truly did nothing (bringing a plate to a table would already relieve your colleagues enormously), and the staff inside were really good at avoiding your gaze. All in all, the only positive thing about this was the service outside, where the staff brought the drinks and were especially very friendly and hospitable. The food, even for this price, was substandard. Invest in a hospitality expert to get things in order, or close down, but this way it will go downhill quickly.

I placed an order for pickup this afternoon at 4:45 PM. After picking up / upon arriving home, I discovered there were shrimp in my pasta, even though I had ordered grilled chicken. I called customer service, and the guy said he would call the branch so they could make the correct pasta, and that we would receive something extra since we had to make the trip back and forth ourselves. My husband received nothing extra as compensation, not even an apology from the staff. The end result: cold pizza for my husband, unnecessary extra petrol costs, and no compensation.

A bit cramped at the table with our large group, but it was cozy.

Had a fine meal here, but the staff is meh. Not amazing, but not bad either. However, they were very rushed; for instance, someone kept jumping off the last steps of the stairs, and they didn't all look very well-groomed. Our table was also right up against the stair railing, causing a lot of banging at the table; fortunately, this was resolved after shifting the table a little. Otherwise, it is a real screaming palace, with an enormous number of children running through the restaurant without any manners.

Had a good meal. Received nice and friendly service from Britt this evening!! Super!!! Some previous experiences with other staff have been less than ideal. I must say, though, that we had reserved a bit later on, and then they are in more of a rush later in the evening; it gives the feeling that you have to leave quickly, which is a real shame!!! The only downside tonight was that staff coming to collect glasses very often would ask if they could take your glass or bottle (a bit too often). At least 8 times in an hour and a half.

Clearly a major staff shortage. We ordered a drink, then the food. After 15 minutes the food arrived, but still no drinks. We were almost finished eating when the drinks arrived. Very disappointing.

The terrace is difficult to access. Staff rude and arrogant. Couldn't manage a laugh. The food was good though. Staff is really a major area for improvement, the service.

The service is top-notch and the staff are very helpful. There is a nice play area downstairs for the little ones, but unfortunately, it is also used by older children who are out of sight. I found the food very bland and tasteless, especially the pastas, which could use more attention.

The food was fine, as you would expect from Happy Italy!! But I was here with a group of friends and one of us had an allergic reaction. When ordering, it is not indicated for any dish whether it contains traces or ingredients that could trigger an allergic reaction. Ordering is done via QR code, so you can't ask if there are nuts in your dish either. When our friend started having trouble after taking just a few bites, we decided to check the allergen menu ourselves. It stated that all dishes containing pesto contained nuts. Based on that, we approached a staff member, who had no answer and said he would look into it. Fine, except he still hadn't returned after half an hour. When we went for a walk to look for a staff member, we saw him standing there and spoke to him, whereupon he told us that he hadn't checked yet. But suppose our friend had a fatal allergy, what would have happened then??? Fortunately, the chef did drop everything to check it for us. But I find this behavior from this branch so, so, so sloppy and dangerous.

When ordering a starter and main course, they brought the main course first, which meant we no longer wanted the starter. A shame, because we were all looking forward to it. And the only thing that was said was, "Yes, we see that you indeed had a starter as well."

A bit of a contactless service. You order your food using the QR code on the table; tastes differ, but the pizza was just as average in terms of taste as a Domino's with higher prices. We have known this branch for a while, but the changes are not always for the better. Payment was made at a table that looked like a messy desk.

We celebrated a birthday party for my daughter. Her first birthday party was on January 2nd. An adult also ordered pasta. There was no explanation of how the process would work. We patiently waited. The children were happily playing. The pizzas for the children looked amazing! The handling was terrible. I had a question about the bill because one of the children hadn't shown up and wanted to know if I still had to pay. The gentleman at the door who also escorted us to the table was downright rude and came across as aggressive. The adult who was with me also found it downright rude and inappropriate. My daughter was there! This was awful. I immediately confronted him about it. How arrogant! Without him, it would have gone perfectly. I won't be coming back.

What incredibly poor service; you're simply forgotten and ignored. Waiters see we've finished eating, see we're waiting for a dessert menu, and just walk on by. I really had to struggle to get someone to come to our table; we weren't in the mood for dessert by then. Then we had to wait another long time for the bill and could finally leave. The food was fine for the price.

The service is very varied. The food is okay, but the quality can't be compared to a real restaurant. This is also the concept (cheap).

We ate here on Sunday evening. We were seated right away. We didn't mind the crowds because we were comfortably seated upstairs. Ordering was easy using the QR code. The drinks and food arrived very quickly, and reordering was also quick. We received a large portion, but the pasta was a bit bland, but that was easily remedied with a little salt and pepper. Otherwise, we had a lovely evening.

Quite expensive pizzeria, but the food is tasty

A nice location, but the hygiene regarding the food leaves much to be desired. For example, ice cubes are picked up with bare hands and placed in a glass instead of with tongs. This also applies to the pizza making. More attention to hygiene, please!

We were the only table upstairs because we were with a large group. It was very warm upon arrival, but that was immediately explained, and we could let them know if it was a problem. The service was very friendly and attentive. Even when we ordered something and wanted it with or without a certain ingredient, it was all fine. We had a relaxing time and a delicious meal.

A quick bite to eat and then off we go. Don't book too late, otherwise the place will be empty on Monday. And then you notice the place is busy cleaning up. The staff makes up for a lot. Very friendly.

Very nice if you want to eat out with kids. The spicy chicken pizza was way too peppery. It was a shame, because the chicken and pizza were indistinguishable. (Really not good.) The rest of the food was okay. The staff was super friendly, which is great for that reason alone!

The starter was good, but we found the main course to be subpar. It wasn't particularly appealing to look at, and the taste was even worse. When we paid, we weren't asked if we enjoyed our meal, so this is probably common knowledge.

The food was good. The service took a long time. You have to pay extra for the cinema promotion.

I received a pizza with almost black edges and a black bottom. The server asked if everything was to my liking, and I pointed it out, but also that I'd already eaten a piece. Team leader Mo came over and asked if I wanted a new pizza, but didn't offer any apologies. He simply explained that it was due to the oven and not their fault. I then pointed out that I thought that answer was odd. If you leave it in the oven too long, the pizza does indeed turn black. I think an apology was due, as the pizza was also constantly turning gray. He then said, "Oh, do I have to learn from you?" I've worked in hospitality, so apparently so. He then proceeded to gossip with colleagues, very professionally. Service is truly awful.

Ordered twice. The first time, I had to wait over two hours and the pizzas were cold. The second time, I waited an hour and a half, after which the order was canceled. NEVER ORDER HERE!

The food used to be better, but it's excellent now, just a bit pricey compared to the old days. The smell isn't very fresh inside, but perhaps it's due to a dry drain.

The food was cold! We had told them our pizzas and pasta were cold, but they ignored us. It was a waste of money!

Today, after a long time, we gave it another try and made a reservation for two. Upon entering, we were assigned a table all the way in the back, in the draft, just barely behind the drinks counter (as if the table had been placed there for emergency purposes), even though more than half the tables were still free. We politely asked if there was another table for us, as there were hardly any other guests. Our host refused, saying there was only one table left downstairs, and he insisted we definitely didn't want to sit there, and he wanted to keep the rest of the tables free for potential other customers. We left without saying a word, and this was also our last time here. The good food and friendliness of the past have disappeared, which is a real shame.

Delicious, but what do you expect from such a place? I thought I'd quickly grab some pizza and pasta to fill my stomach. After a few bites, the pasta tasted awful, I didn't taste any tomato cream or sauce. The pizza was super thick, the bread on the side was completely empty. The salami smelled of a strong, foul-smelling pork. Like I said, what do you expect from a place like this with hard chairs, incredibly noisy, mediocre food quality, and cheap junk. It's just like McDonald's. It's all trash, unfortunately. You can't expect much; it's not 5-star food, just plain fast food with no quality. They just do whatever they want. Now that you've read this, you know for next time.

It cost "not much" by today's standards with a social deal voucher... But the service reflects that. A draft beer is incredibly expensive for a small glass. A pizza that would rival Domino's and a pasta carbonara that was drier and more tasteless than eating a log in the Sahara. Dessert was so obligatory that you couldn't even choose tea or coffee (which is cheaper) instead of dessert. The service was also completely indifferent and could easily be on antidepressants. The place was very empty for a Friday night. And that annoying beeping sound you hear constantly from the kitchen?

Disappointing experience I used to have my birthday party here as a child, and it was always an unforgettable experience. The atmosphere was quintessentially Italian, and the service was always top-notch. But something has changed since 2020. Our last visit was a disappointment. We were initially placed in a noisy basement with far too many people, but thankfully we were given a different table when we requested it. But then the problems started: wrong drinks, wrong food orders, forgotten extras... It was as if the waitresses and servers weren't paying attention anymore. Unfortunately, this isn't the first time I've experienced this. Over the past three years, I've experienced similar problems here several times. It's a shame to see Happy Italy isn't what it once was. I hope they get their service and quality back on track, but for now, I can't recommend it. I'm giving it two stars because the atmosphere still feels Italian and the food is still good, but the quality of the service is truly disappointing.

Table service was excellent. You do need to be patient when paying, though. Meal delivery drivers, in varying states of hygiene, are constantly coming and going. Lots of children around 😳 If you're looking for a quiet, undisturbed dinner, this isn't the place for you. If you're looking for a lot of good quality food at a great price, this is the place to be.

We entered and were seated at a (dirty) table. Normally, at other restaurants, you're helped within 5 minutes to order drinks, but we'd been sitting there for 20 minutes, and no staff came to our table to take our drinks order. I find this really awful. We ended up leaving because it was taking way too long. We also saw the staff chatting amongst themselves while we were waiting all that time. 😱 Terrible service; this is no way to treat your guests. This is truly awful. We definitely won't be back, and I hope you treat your guests better and stop chatting so much. Just do your job properly.

The food isn't what we were used to. The quantity isn't what it used to be, and the pasta is sparse and without arugula. It's a shame that such a place can go so bad.

The food wasn't good quality; the pasta was soggy. The many flies (inside) also didn't create a pleasant atmosphere. The staff was friendly. It's fast and affordable. But I won't be returning to this location.

I was there the 10th aug 2025 evening and happy Italy has lost its touch its service and customer experience don’t get me wrong the food taste is good but the service is terrible it’s a normal thing now that customers sends food back and reason is food is served cold yet the customers flow isn’t so much as earlier years I order the pasta and it was served cold yet took 30min to order and another 20min to serve and the amount of food also has decreased the pizza would recommend it, the lemonade is diluted but not so bad 5/10 ,for those who knew happy Italy when it started it’s not the same ,well pro tip a restaurant is very much judged by its toilet and Lemi tell you it was horror water puddle was at the door entrance between male and female or maybe it wasn’t water mmh and as you go inside toilet paper wasn’t available so make sure you always have your bag with you ladies and gents because you might not find toilet paper and soap so be prepared . Well I’d say this the restaurant was overwhelmed with few workers and hence the environment wasn’t good tables weren’t wiped and set for new customers toilets were neglected food were served cold and it’s a new normal to send food back well it is not worth your money it’s not what it used to be and this is would be 1 star restaurant

What a shame, it was always nice to grab a bite here. We often had pasta, but the quality has really deteriorated. But now the pizzas too; they've become tasteless. Today I ordered three different kinds of pizza, none of which are as good as before. How is that possible?

You can eat delicious Italian food there

I had dinner with my girlfriend last Wednesday around 6 p.m. We both had pasta; I had a pasta tonno and she had a different pasta. Because the pasta tonno didn't have the listed ingredients, we called the waitress and told her that it contained a lot of hot peppers, but the other ingredients were very sparingly or absent. My girlfriend's pasta wasn't even in it. She had pasta verdure. The waitress said she would report it to the chef. When I got home, I became very ill that night, with diarrhea, nausea, etc. So far, a week later, I'm still bedridden, have lost 4 kilos, and am too weak to walk around the room. I advise everyone to carefully consider their pasta, which has now been reduced to a much smaller quantity, and to report it immediately. Especially the tuna, which is very vulnerable and prone to bacteria. The waitress gave a standard answer: we should have reported it before eating and there was nothing they could do. Very bad. I don't have any photos, but you'll never see me at Happy Italy in H.I.A. again. Redwood Trail

I recently dined at Happy Italy and was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food. The pizzas were fresh, generously topped, and flavorful, and the pastas were also well-prepared. The service was friendly and prompt, and the atmosphere in the restaurant is what you'd expect from a place that caters to a wide audience: informal and cozy. However, there was one major drawback that's outdated: the lack of charging stations for electric cars. In an era where electric driving is becoming increasingly common, it's strange—and actually disappointing—that a modern chain like Happy Italy hasn't caught on. Especially if you're a guest from out of town, it's frustrating to find you can't charge your car while you eat. In short: excellent food, but a clear missed opportunity in terms of sustainability and customer focus. Hopefully, that will change soon.

Plenty of pizza and pasta options. Fast service, large restaurant, noisy.

Nice restaurant with a great playground and ball pit, great for the kids! The pasta was mediocre, and my companions didn't finish it all. Don't go here for fine dining; keep it simple with a pizza. But the kids had a blast, and the service was very friendly!
