We dined here with a group. Our order was taken quickly, and the food was ready very quickly. It's not exactly a culinary highlight, but the food is simply excellent and, above all, inexpensive. I think you definitely get your money's worth. The staff was friendly. The only downside, in our opinion, was that the knives were quite blunt. It was a real struggle to cut a pizza; your hands simply hurt.

Happy Italy is a very popular Italian restaurant and pizzeria in the Netherlands, with as many as 15 locations across the country.
I was a bit skeptical at first being Italian, I’m always quite wary when it comes to Italian restaurants abroad. I tried a good pizza, the Quattro Stagioni, a delicious panna cotta with strawberries, and a Mango Passion Bubble Tea, which was truly excellent. The staff is very kind and helpful, especially Fodor, the manager, who is truly passionate about his work. Highly recommended.

We had purchased vouchers through Social Deal to try a new restaurant. Finding a parking space was difficult on a Friday evening. We received a friendly welcome and were immediately shown to our reserved table. Initially, we were surprised by the size of the dining room and the extremely high level of noise. We were able to order drinks quickly, but then we had to wait a long time. However, the food made up for this. The pizzas were larger than expected, and we couldn't finish them all. They tasted excellent. The kids' pizzas were just the right size. The ice cream is recommended.

Original Italian pizza tastes better. But it's not bad.

Delicious fast Italian food, just like Happy Italy claims! The food is served quickly and, in our opinion, always tastes great. It's great that if you have any leftovers from the large portion, you can take them home in a doggy bag. The pasta comes in a handy plastic container that you can reuse ♻️ I had a bad experience here a while back, but thankfully, it was resolved quickly with the manager!

The pizza is good. Baked in an oven visible from the dining room. The dough is excellent. Always a lot of people. However, I'm not convinced by this place. Maybe it's the service?

Whichever way you look at it, it's still a glutton. Surprisingly, the food and service are just as good. And you know you'll be out the door quickly with a full stomach. Another positive, in my opinion, is being able to place your own order at your table using a QR code. No waiting for service.

A real chain, impersonal, ordering on the patio is only possible with a QR code. The price-quality ratio is good, with large portions and reasonable quality. Very suitable for children. Doggy bags are available for €0.50 per meal.

Unfortunately, there's nothing happy about it anymore. Used to be our favorite restaurant. It's gone downhill a lot since then. It takes forever for the food to arrive, even when it's quiet. You can see the chefs constantly going out to smoke. Portions have gotten smaller. A shame.

Disappointing experience – only the ice cream appealed to me My visit to this restaurant was unfortunately disappointing. I hadn't even finished my starter before the main course was brought to the table. This caused confusion and pressure during the meal – you don't really know what to expect. The pasta was overcooked and lacked the typical al dente bite you expect from Italian cuisine. If you're looking for a true Italian experience, this is unfortunately not the place to be. The wine was also disappointing and added little to the meal. The only bright spot was the dessert: the ice cream was delicious and was served on time. It's a shame, because with a little more attention to timing, quality, and service, this restaurant could have scored much better.

Happy Italy is a fast-casual chain that prioritizes quantity over quality, with a clear profile: fast, plentiful, affordable, and kid-friendly. But the formula relies heavily on volume and convenience. Large portions for little money are appealing, especially for students, young people, families, and big eaters. For gourmets or true foodies, it's simply not good enough. The sauce often tastes pre-made, the pasta sometimes overcooked, and the pizza lacks authenticity. It's noisy, crowded, and feels more like a food court than a cozy Italian restaurant. You don't come for romance and fine dining. Above all, if you know what you're getting and plan accordingly, you won't be disappointed; a lot of variety for little money. Through the Social Deal: less than 12 euros for two courses (main course and dessert). Accept the crowds and the quantity of food instead of quantity, and it's adequate. But no more than that.

The restaurant looks nice and has modern decor, but it's very noisy. The food was quite tasty, but unfortunately, two people had stomach aches and diarrhea afterward. The service was really bad. Today I went out to dinner with my family for our father's birthday. We were so looking forward to it! Upon arrival, we had to wait a long time, despite having made a reservation. When we were seated at our designated table, we quickly noticed that we had no cutlery. The first course arrived after a considerable time, but we still didn't have any cutlery... We had to ask for it later. After the appetizer, which was delicious, we had to wait a long time for our food again. The first course was brought to the table, plates dirty, etc. After a few minutes, the second course arrived; one of the dishes wasn't prepared correctly. We were given the option of having it re-prepared. It was also rather unpleasant that the food was passed on to the other family members. Prior to this visit, I personally contacted Happy Italy. During this phone call, I clearly stated that it was my father's birthday and asked if there was any way to arrange a small gift for him. And they did! The staff had indicated that after the main course was finished, a small dessert with a firework would be served for the birthday boy/girl, but this turned out not to be the case. I immediately pointed this out to the staff, and they looked at me in astonishment. "We don't do this!" We also noticed during our visit that the service was rather unhygienic. The table was being cleared away close to our table. Leftovers? They were simply pressed down with their bare hands—in short, unhygienic. Clearing tables? No way, that's left until the end. In short, not worth repeating!

The restaurant is very good, but unfortunately there is a waiter whose treatment is very, very, very bad. Only one waiter and I think he speaks Spanish and he is very bad at dealing with customers

For delicious pizza served super fast, this is the place to be! If you're looking for ambiance, a friendly waiter, or a quiet environment, you might want to look elsewhere.

The food, both pasta and pizza, was nothing special, but not bad either. The surrounding area was noisy.

Terrible place. Unfriendly, poor service, poor atmosphere, poor food. Never been in such a place where we feel like we didn’t belong. Should have avoided due to all the negative reviews but wanted to give it a try but I should have known better. Would definitely not recommend this place. Many better Italian places in Heerlen. AVOID! Just go to Burger King it’ll probably taste better!

I've been coming here since Happy Italy was founded, and I always ordered the same thing: a pasta bolognese and my wife a salad. Over the course of about eight years, the pasta bolognese has changed quite a bit. The price for a pasta bolognese in 2017 was €5.75. The pasta was delicious, well-filled to the brim, and with a huge amount of sauce and ground meat. To my surprise, the pasta became less filled each year, and there was also less sauce. Now I'm a sauce fanatic, so I pay attention to this. It's so bad now that I always have to order extra sauce to match the old one. And now, the worst part is that the portions have been halved and there's less sauce. The price is now €16. I understand what inflation means, but this is completely exaggerated. It's scandalous! The service used to be usually good, but now you're completely overwhelmed.

I had a delicious spaghetti meal. The portion was even a bit generous, and it was delicious.

We went out for dinner with a group of 18. The service was perfect, the staff friendly, and within 20 minutes a well-prepared meal was on the table, with a good and tasty portion for the price! Hats off!

How can a good concept sink so low. Pizza without much taste >€14,-. Spaghetti Bolognese weakly filled, mediocre portion >€12,- Strange menu, pizza teriakki, pizza kapsalon, pizza carpaccio? No, I won't spend any more money here. 24° outside, no terrace due to lack of staff.

For Father's Day we had chosen to have dinner at Happy Italië in Kerkrade, but unfortunately the visit was quite disappointing. Upon arrival we had to wait a long time before we were even shown to a table - clearly a shortage of staff, which immediately gave a messy impression. Once at the table, the food also left much to be desired. The dishes were not very refined and lacked the taste and atmosphere of real Italian cuisine. It felt more like fast food than a cozy Italian restaurant. The atmosphere in the restaurant was busy and impersonal - it is more reminiscent of a large food barn than a place where you can go out for a relaxed meal. Not a repeat for us. There are plenty of other places in the region where quality and atmosphere are better balanced.

Great, fast and affordable pizzas

What a nice surprise this Italian restaurant is. Inexpensive, excellent food, generous dish, you return with your doggy bag if there are leftovers. The server is super friendly, takes the time to chat with you a little if it's not too busy. A great experience that I recommend. It's a change from the Burger King across the street. Bravo!!

Came here to have a quick bite to eat with my kids and because we didn't make a reservation, we had to sit outside. People were smoking all around us. Not really healthy for a 2 year old. Ball about it! I'd rather have the Happy Italy from 10 years ago. They removed my favorite dish from the menu. I don't think I'll be back. 😩 Horrible!

The heyday is over. Not nearly as busy as it used to be, although they still behave that way. Concept: achieve the optimum with as few staff as possible and that is impossible. The friendliness of the man who shows the places is nowhere to be found and he behaves more like a bouncer. Even people who had made a reservation were put in line by him. He is also rude and uninterested towards the serving staff. But the concept of fast food still works. Within 10 minutes there was food. But the whole ambiance has to be right.

Went to dinner with 24 people for our daughter's 10th birthday. Had contacted them several times in advance. Separate menu at a reduced price and time slot from 4 pm to 7 pm etc. So I thought I had it all arranged properly. On arrival there was no reserved table. We had to divide ourselves over tables. Questions about this were answered unfriendly. They even just walked away. They even put a few tables together because they were not cooperating. Then we heard the staff talking very condescendingly to the manager about us. Before we even sat down, plates of bread were literally thrown in a corner on the table. Glasses were slammed on the table (nice with your fingers in the glasses) After the food was served, we were addressed by the manager that we had to leave by 6 pm because it was busy. We therefore decided to eat dessert elsewhere. In short, a lot of money left behind, bad food and just being sent away. We will never come back. Still a plus: the young man who took the drink orders was friendly and helpful. Too bad for him that the rest was so bad that we didn't leave a tip

Making a reservation is completely pointless here. You have to stand in line with the masses and wait until it is your turn. No possibility to walk forward or a separate line for reservations. They also do not actively ask for it. So if you are unlucky and there is a line, you will have to wait for half an hour to three quarters of an hour despite your reservation. Very unfriendly to customers

Friendly staff and full portions

The pasta veggi was delicious. The pizzas could have used more dressing (sauce) ... But that service........ Geez, when you want to clear the table you ask "did you enjoy it" but not "AND". The drinks were put on the table, not even on the coasters that were there. You figure it out..... They were rude farmers! So no tip..

Fast Italian with emphasis on fast. A lot is lost here. Staff is only focused on speed and very rude. Staff at McDonald's is even friendlier than here. Service is non-existent Bruschetta was soft and tough and noticeably more complaints about food around us which made the atmosphere very unsociable. The pasta itself was surprisingly ok. That was also the only real positive thing about this experience

Fast Italian food, they are fast. But as fast as they are, they can still learn a lot in service and customer friendliness. Upon arrival, we were quickly shown to our table. First we had a starter, cheesy garlic bread, which was surprisingly tasty. After the starter, our cutlery was taken away. But when we got our pasta, we had to ask for new cutlery, and this was pushed onto the table without looking at us or saying anything. Not neatly placed with the people themselves, no, just piled together. No please, no tasty food, nothing. The pasta itself disappointed me a bit, pasta carbonara, but there was a bitter aftertaste to the pancetta. When paying, we wanted to pay by card. While we were busy, she walked to the next table to clear it. She ate a bag of chips herself in between, but I didn't see her wash her hands in between. In short, not customer friendly and bad service.

What used to be a fun outing is unfortunately no longer. Screaming and running children, unfriendly and disinterested staff, price of drinks are in no way in proportion to the pizzas. The management of Happy Italy Kerkrade is not manager worthy. Keep it up and Happy Italy will not have a long life. Too bad!

24052025: fast and friendly service. Opted for 2 pizzas and soft drinks. Good taste and more than enough for the average eater.

Pleasantly surprised after reading all the negative reviews. Our experience was actually very positive. The portions were generous, nice and warm and tasty. The salad was also deliciously fresh. One point for improvement is the play area: it is out of sight, close to the toilets, and looks rather dark. That does not really invite children to play there. Nevertheless, definitely recommended.

Food is fine, you don't stay longer than necessary. Service could be better. 5 minutes (we were the only ones) had to wait at the entrance before someone came.

8:15 pm: we are closed sir. According to the website, open until 9:30 PM

I don't understand the 1-star reviews, I was there for the first time today and the food was pure enjoyment. They were also prepared very quickly. We'd love to come back soon.

Unfriendly staff, hostess seemingly annoyed with me being there and having to give me a table. Waiter gave us about 2 minutes to think before making it clear we really have to choose quickly. Food tasted pretty good for the price range.

Unfortunately you have to give 1 star to even leave a review. Yesterday we went to Happy Italy with friends and kids. That was the first and last time. Starter bruscetta, bread rock hard, you could have hit someone in the head, laceration... Pizza Salami had 0.0 taste. Salami without taste... Spaghetti Carbonara, yes there's nothing more to say, it was a disaster. Never eaten anything so bad. And of course left standing, that means something... Not to mention the drink prices for 0.2 liters... So you might go in HAPPY, but you'll come out pissed, not recommended...

Unfortunately, it's not what it used to be. Food is delicious, yes.

If you reserve a table, it says online that the kitchen closes at 9:30 PM and when you get there they tell you that you can only have a drink. We took a detour to go out hungry again. The lady was unfriendly and made no effort to even guide us to a table. We were clearly no longer welcome.

Unfortunately the atmosphere is cold, not to mention the service. But the real disaster was the “salmon pasta” – if you can even call it that. The dish looked unappetizing, the sauce was watery and completely tasteless. The salmon was unsightly brown with barely any pink spots and was crumbly. Charging €15 for this is really a disgrace! After eating you had a stomach ache and an unpleasant feeling. I definitely don't need that again. No thanks!

A quick and tasty Italian meal.

First time picking up pizza for home. Super fast and friendly staff

The timing of pickup and reservations wasn't so good. The pizza was cold.

Normal portions of pasta have become just as small as the children's portions, the pizzas have become smaller, very sparsely topped and also tasteless, and a bottle of drink costs €3.60!!!!!

First time at H I. What was immediately noticeable was the unpleasant smell (sewer smell). According to the kids, the restroom smelled fresher, but the play area smelled like a "train toilet smell." The food was delicious, but the pizzas could have used more tomato sauce. You can also create an atmosphere by lighting candles on the table, playing music, and replacing the many broken light bulbs (especially at the bar).

Overall good value for money. Pasta cooked a little too long and cream sauces are not their forte. But the pizza is highly recommended! However, the biggest point of criticism is that a queue is artificially created and maintained in front of the door, even though the majority of the tables are free. Otherwise a very pleasant stay.

A great day and a pleasant moment for the children, releasing a little adrenaline in an excellent family fun venue, definitely highly recommended.

They always make us ‘happy’ at ‘Happy Italy’. Much better than popular American pizza outlets.

Today, we paid €10 for parking, but later we were told that we could get a refund from Happy Italy. However, when we asked for the refund, the person in charge had already left, so they didn’t process it. They told us that we had to go back and get the refund from the attendant who gave us the card. But the attendant said he couldn’t process the refund and that the restaurant should be responsible for it. In the end, we paid €10 for nothing. This was not a pleasant experience and should have been managed more clearly.

The food is good, but the prices have skyrocketed. Noisy/the staff is robotic. Used to be an excellent restaurant.

Had a delicious salad, could have used a little more chicken.

This is out of the over hundred places I rated the WORST place ever to eat. For me to RETURN a plate it has to be really bad and it was. The quality standard is below average. This I will literally not even feed my dog. The staff is friendly let me point that out but to eat, strongly recommended you eat at one of the other places around.

It's a bit odd that the main course is served while we're still eating the starter. We hadn't even finished half of it. It's a shame the food didn't settle... we had to leave half of the main course untouched. Apparently, starting the cleanup at 8:15 PM is more important than customer service. The carp pacific was very tasty and generously sprinkled with cheese.

We were greeted warmly upon arrival, and the service was excellent. The pizzas were delicious, everything. But then, we suddenly had to wait a very long time for the bill, even though they had helped the people who came after us with the bill and, of course, thanked them for coming. It wasn't that busy anymore because it was almost closing time... It's a shame about the end, hence the 3 stars.

Service is poor. Some staff members don't understand Dutch or English either. Whether the waiters are taking orders for the food or bringing the receipt for payment, it all seems a bit too complicated.

The food was really delicious, only the service was a disgrace. They always look past you when you want to order something and they can't really be friendly either. Happy Italian, the fast Italian. We went in without much expectation, but were pleasantly surprised. Yes, it's a bit of a glorified Italian snack bar, not a classic Italian restaurant, but the food was fresh and tasty, the service fast and friendly, so we were simply satisfied.

Our second visit – and once again we were absolutely disappointed. The staff is unfortunately completely unfriendly. With every employee you came into contact with, you got the feeling they absolutely didn't want to do their job. The food was also not good, unfortunately. The prices were therefore extremely overpriced. Last time, our starter arrived after the main course, even though we mentioned three times when ordering that it should be a starter. When we asked for the bill, it was simply brought without asking if we wanted to pay separately. We won't be going back.

The pasta carbonara was too salty

Food for vegetarians or vegans is not that great and expensive in a way. I requested for a regular vegetarian Delicioza pizza from the menu and asked for vegetable & mushroom toppings. The waitress added 5Eur extra for the toppings but had hardly any veggies added as toppings. So, it became 10+5 =15Eur for nothing. The pizza was not tasty as in the review here. It tasted OK but nothing special.

No, I didn't wait 40 minutes for food, in the end I got the wrong pizza, I left it alone and the pizza was gone, they took it away, the pasta was not tasty after the first bite, then I asked for the bill, they had put 2 pizzas and pasta on the bill, so I wanted to ask for the top price even though I had not had a pizza and the pasta was not tasty after 2 bites. The lady was not very friendly with solving the problem, which I ended up saying that it was good, so I went home hungry. MORE BACK

Previously Sad Italy Upon entering, we weren't greeted by the aroma of fresh pasta or garlic, but by a pungent sewer smell that suggested something was seriously wrong with the plumbing. It smelled as if someone had emptied their diaper in the middle of the restaurant. The staff exuded a profound disinterest, as if they'd rather not be there themselves. Probably severely understaffed and overworked. The food was utterly disappointing: tasteless, drenched in grease, and absolutely no Italian flair in sight. All in all, an experience I'd quickly forget. Not to be repeated. 1/5 – only because 0 isn't possible.

When we walked in, it stank of Riol. The place was almost empty, it took a long time for someone to arrive, and they didn't speak proper Dutch, German, or English, which meant our order wasn't taken properly. The pizzas were lukewarm to cold! One was wrong. When you pointed it out, you heard one waitress rudely tell another, "She has a big mouth!"! There was a booger on the so-called fresh glass 🤢. Never again!!!!

Service was quick, but unfortunately, the bill was simply brought to us without asking whether we wanted to pay together or separately. We were a group of 11 people. There were a few points where it was difficult to understand each other. The food was good, though, and came quickly. However, everything else has to be just right for you to feel comfortable there.

After waiting half an hour, still no help, and this isn't the first time. The staff is so grumpy; they only seem to care about themselves and not about the customer. I finally got up, and I'll never come back.

Happy... the staff isn't happy about that; there's some bickering and long faces... the food has a good price-quality ratio. Due to staff shortages, you can't sit everywhere in this mega restaurant... so you see 100 empty chairs and still get turned away.

Well, where do I start... Ending our children's party (9-year-old boys) on Wednesday afternoon with 'baking pizza at Happy Italy', guaranteed success... That must have been the case at some point. Seated at the table upon arrival. The hostess had no eye for the children, no warm welcome. The table was neatly set with a coloring page, fine. Explanation to us as parents for the choice between normal Margherita or pizza Nutella. Decorating pizzas at the table, that already raised a question mark. Second comment, we pick up the birthday boy to put his pizza in the oven. Then the cat was out of the bag. Pizzas are baked as Margherita and cherry tomatoes, salami and peppers are added raw later. Our additional request to also put tuna on the table, we had to repeat again. And of course for extra payment. All in all, really good advertising for your own restaurant #not. The birthday boy was wanted to put the pizza in the oven himself. Our question 'shouldn't we call our friends?' was answered with 'no, it's not necessary'. Pizza was already on the edge of the oven with a stick, just move it a meter, nothing more. Really great. Not even posing for a photo with the pizza maker (eventually did after much insistence). Our own normal order, tagliatelle salmon and risotto truffle, were not bad, but very salty. The Happy Italy Children's Party is scheduled for 2 hours. Well, after 45 minutes we luckily got them playing so we didn't have to return home too soon. For fun, read the explanation of a Children's Party on their website. If you do choose this, don't expect anything from what they promise in advance... Noises about too few staff and disappointing customer numbers should not affect such a party. Once but never again, not even as a regular customer in the restaurant.

It's a shame that several Vegan pasta and pizzas have been removed from the menu. Always tasted great here!

As I have read all the comments, it is better that I don't go there, why 1 unfriendly staff, 2 staff who do nothing but watch or talk and no smile comes, throw cutlery in the middle of the table, cold food, it makes me so angry when I read it all and when people complain nothing gets improved and I always see the owner give the same answer like this (Thank you for your honest review. Of course we hope to welcome you again to change your opinion.) looks like an automaton that answers I call this Happy Italy Aco Italy, they better teach those unfriendly staff to be friendlier to customers and guide them to a clean table and the management needs to be improved so that the staff knows where they stand without long faces and thoughts, the customer is king. Happy is certainly not the right word for this Italy. The staff comes across as if they are serving community service. They make you wait at the door, even after asking several times if we can just take a seat. Finally I ordered the drinks via the app because no one cared about the guests. The only time they were attentive is when I put on my coat and wanted to pay. They have better service at McDonald's and I order via a screen there

last Saturday, I tried to have a bite to eat at Happy Italy. When we entered there was plenty of room, but we waited at least 15 minutes before someone had to come and direct us to a table, but they just look at you and go. furthermore they were busy putting tables in order and in the meantime just looking at you and pretending you weren't there. Not recommended if you have to wait
