The food was delicious! The meat quality is superb, the staff is very friendly, and the restaurant has a great atmosphere! A true gem for Amersfoort.

The menu is surprising, the service is incredibly friendly, and the dishes are presented with care. It's such a charming restaurant that, after the first bite, you know you'll be back. Highly recommended!

Everything was perfect. It couldn't be better!

First of all, bravo to the knowledgeable staff. Everything was explained and served perfectly. I don't see that very often these days. I ordered a mixed grill for two people at €40 per person, which is quite pricey. But also too much salt, so you barely taste the meat. Which is a real shame. At €110, including a few non-alcoholic drinks, I thought it was overpriced.

We had a wonderful meal here yesterday (August 10th)! The service was super friendly and welcoming. The atmosphere was nice and relaxed; we spent almost three hours here.

We've been here four times now, and every time it's fantastic! The highlight of this restaurant is the pork belly. I never thought it could be so delicious. It melts in your mouth! For big eaters: Order the mixed grill; you'll get nothing but delicious dishes in a truly indulgent spread. You're guaranteed not to be hungry afterward! One of the best restaurants in Amersfoort. Reservations are recommended; it's not very big! Friendly service, masterful chef!

We waren in Amersfoort en wilde ergens wat eten, na ff Googlen kwamen we op "hete kolen" uit en dat was wel even geluk hebben. Omdat we vroeg waren konden we nog plaatsnemen met ons 7-en. Het personeel was ontzettend vriendelijk en daarnaast was het eten mega lekker, echt om je vingers bij af te likken. Alles wordt zelf gemaakt, dus ook de mayo en de ketchup. We kregen een mandje met heel erg lekker knapperig brood met aioli. De hoofdgerechten waren ook super, omdat we met 7 waren konden we lekker bij elkaar proeven maar alles was lekker. Zelf had ik het buikspek en die was goddelijk lekker, zo zacht en smaakvol. Als laatste namen we nog een toetje en die waren ook allemaal erg lekker. Dus ben je in de buurt, ga hier vooral eten maar reserveer wel even.

We were shopping in Amersfoort and looking for a restaurant for dinner. This restaurant was tucked away in a side street just off the main street. The seven of us were able to be seated because we were quite early. Luckily, because this is such an excellent place to eat. The staff is super friendly. They explained that everything is homemade, including the ketchup, mayonnaise, and aioli, in addition to the main courses. Because there were seven of us and everyone chose something different, we were able to sample each other's dishes. Everything was delicious; I was so glad I chose the pork belly because it was truly divine. The waitress said it took a lot of work, but you could taste it. The spare ribs were also very tasty. The desserts were also excellent! I highly recommend eating here, but be sure to make a reservation.

We followed the reviews and were not disappointed. The ambiance is great – reminiscent of a French bistro, more casual but still sophisticated, with cloth napkins and Lagouile knives. A great aperitif and wine list. A variety of starters, either meat, fish, or vegetables, is a must-try, if only for the soup. The grilled main courses, including the daily special, are also very good. Homemade fries accompany all dishes. The dessert menu is very varied. The service is very friendly and unpretentious. Simply top-notch.

We didn't make a reservation in advance. Initially, we were seated outside. The staff then helped us kindly. It took a while at times due to miscommunication, but they handled it perfectly. We even received an amuse-bouche! The food was delicious and I definitely recommend it!

Een absolute aanrader! We hebben hier heerlijk gegeten. Het vlees was echt fantastisch – perfect bereid en vol van smaak. We namen de Mixed grill en het was gewoon goddelijk. Wat deze plek echt bijzonder maakt, is het personeel: zó attent en vriendelijk, dat kom je tegenwoordig zelden nog tegen. Ze zorgen echt voor je en geven je het gevoel welkom te zijn. De sfeer is warm en gezellig, een fijne plek om te zitten en te genieten. We komen hier zeker terug!

My son, mother and I have been coming to Hete Kolen from the beginning. It really is our favorite restaurant. Over the years we have never had anything to complain about. I dare say that we have tried almost all the dishes, but the Mixed Grill is really so nice, especially if you find it very difficult to choose. Small tip, make sure you save some room in your stomach for the 'sMores 😍. We share it between the two of us, because it is overwhelming but so terribly tasty! See you soon!

Last night we were fortunate to get a spot via the waiting list. Our first experience at Hete Kolen. The first contact via the telephone already started with good service. Friendly staff. They do their work with a smile on their face and they were themselves. Relaxed atmosphere. You don't experience that very often these days. Good service, they work professionally, also with the explanation that is given with the meals. The food was super tasty! Worth repeating.

Wow, I have never been treated so friendly in a restaurant. Hats off to the men who welcomed us and guided us through the serving. And then the food was also delicious! Really highly recommended!!! We just walked in last Sunday and they even had a table free (because later we saw that almost everything was occupied; also a good sign). The atmosphere was great, nice background music, an extra amuse and then enjoy the food from the Jopper I think? I'm sure I'm saying this wrong. But that thing with coal! Haha.

The service, the building and its interior and the ambiance are very good but what makes Hete Kolen great is the quality of the food. We enjoyed it immensely. Everything you get here is home made and you can taste that. Recommended for everyone who can appreciate a good piece of meat or fish that is perfectly prepared.

Heerlijk gegeten! Vooraf de keuze uit een vlees, vis of groenteplankje. Even wennen dat je geen aparte gerechten kunt bestellen, maar t was verrassend lekker. Heerlijke keuze uit hoofd-en nagerechten.

Had a lovely meal here on Thursday. What a warm welcome. Everyone is cheerful here. We got a nice spot with a view of the open kitchen (an experience in itself). We started with delicious bread. Everything here is homemade and you can taste that in the dishes. After that we got an amuse of pork belly. A treat for the taste buds. By the way, there is also a lot of choice in non-alcoholic (Beer - Wine - Cocktails). Try the American Triple! My starter consisted of a fish platter (but they also have meat and vegetarian). As a main course I chose (off the menu) barvet with asparagus and for desert a chef's special (also off the menu). How I enjoyed these dishes, the atmosphere and the friendly staff. (Many catering establishments should take an example from this) It is worth coming to the middle of the country for this and I will do that more often, if only to enjoy the other dishes and the entire atmosphere and experience.

Lamb was really inedible. We eat out regularly and have never sent anything back. Main course was 32 euros. We didn't have to pay for 2 beers as compensation, not really fair... Restaurant echoes, so you can't hear each other well. Nicely decorated though!

I actually wanted to give the service 6 stars but that didn't work out. I have rarely seen a restaurant where the staff is so cheerful, laughs so much but above all is visibly PROUD of the restaurant where they work alone! I can understand that from an owner. It says something that I start with this. For the rest, I really don't understand why I have never heard of this restaurant that has been around for 10 years. If you like BBQ you simply have to go here once. Done. I thought the pork belly was a winner as well as the ribs. We had the mixed grill. Everything was well seasoned. Coleslaw also tasty and delicious corn on the cob. A lot of sauce (good meat normally doesn't need sauce) but I think most people like that too and it fits here too. On to the next 10 years I would say!

The experience as a whole is unsurpassed, at least in the Netherlands. Some of the dishes were underwhelming, but mostly because they were being outdone by the other offerings on the table... Knowing everything, down to the mints served with the bill, was prepared on premise; paired with a very pleasant hostess, made this a great bbq-grill experience.

Onverwachts hier eten, lukt niet. Toevallig konden wij hier om 20.30 uur op zaterdagavond terecht. Dit is echt één van de verrassendste restaurants van Amersfoort. Wat een geweldige ontvangst en bediening, dit is echt een avondje uit. Het personeel weet waar ze het over hebben en adviseren goed, geen vraag is teveel! Heerlijk biertje en een glas rosé. Ik snap wel waarom dit restaurant altijd vol zit. Wij komen snel weer terug!

Last minute besloten om uit eten te gaan , meestal is dat een lastig verhaal bij dit restaurant, maar dit keer hadden we geluk: om 20:30 was er nog een tafeltje beschikbaar. En wat ben ik blij dat we zijn gegaan! Wat een fantastische avond! Niet alleen vanwege het heerlijke, smaakvol bereide eten (echt elke gang was raak), maar vooral vanwege de mensen die er werken. Het personeel maakt deze plek echt bijzonder. Vriendelijk, correct, attent en meedenkend, je voelt je meteen welkom en gezien. Dit is zo’n plek waar alles klopt: sfeer, service, en eten. We komen zeker terug!

Really delicious food. Service with attention, friendly, really ready for you. Food was really tasty, beautifully decorated plates, not too much fuss but just good. Also the concept that everything is homemade gives this an extra dimension. The atmosphere is a bit more chic than necessary in my opinion. For example, the snow-white tablecloths look a bit too sterile. But that does not detract from the total experience, which was great. Will definitely come back here.

We had a delicious meal again yesterday in a great atmosphere with great service. The whole picture just fits. Beautiful dishes prepared with care and served with skill. A host who fit in seamlessly with our group. This - in my opinion the best restaurant in Amersfoort - continues to innovate and gets better every time.

Delicious food in this super atmospheric restaurant! As a starter we had a platter of fish. Nice that there were different dishes to taste. For mains we ordered steak and pork belly and the meat of both was really very tender! The vegetables and sauces were also delicious. The service in the restaurant was also great! Hete kolen makes as much as possible itself, from the sauce you get with your fries to the peppermint when you leave. The atmosphere is good; knowledgeable and jovial staff, nicely decorated building in a cute street in the center of Amersfoort, but above all super tasty food (from the bbq). The pork belly is recommended.

y disappointing experience. We book this restaurant for a birthday dinner based on the high reviews of Google. We ordered the Sea Bass which was cooked in a salt crust. We cleaned extremely well but unfortunately it was super dry and extremely salty. Besides that, we ordered ribeye steaks which were cold. We complained about this and we received the desserts for free, these were cheesecakes which were probably the hardest and less tasty cheesecakes we have ever eaten. Very mediocre restaurant and mediocre dishes. Not recommended!

I was pleasantly surprised by the service and certainly the quality of the dishes. I had the Ribs and these may be a bit more expensive than elsewhere. But the best I've had in a long time. And the portions are more than sufficient. Price quality super good! Please note when booking if you do not want to sit high. That went wrong for us, but it was resolved within 10 minutes. Thanks for the great evening! Had dinner here with my girlfriend today and it was absolutely perfect. We had a delicious meal, I had the ribs with BBQ sauce and spicy sauce, which were super tasty. My girlfriend had the pork belly and she also liked it very much. We were served by Jordy who was very friendly and could talk about the food with passion. We thought that was really nice/fun. Will definitely come here again.

Cozy, very tasty food and a very enthusiastic waitress. Arrived at random, but a bull's eye. The pork belly is bizarrely delicious and according to my dining companion, the cheeses (especially the blue cheese 🤢) were of world class.

Wow, in one word: insane! The food tasted really delicious! In addition, the staff was super friendly and pleasant. We visited Amersfoort for a midweek and are happy that we ended it here. The chef/kitchen took our dietary requirements into consideration and that was especially appreciated! Too bad we don't live nearby, otherwise we would certainly become regular guests. We will definitely come back on our next visit to Amersfoort!

Wederom heerlijk gegeten met onze kinderen, totaal 9 personen. Samen in een heel gezellige sfeer genoten van heerlijk eten. Door een zeer leuke, vriendelijke en enthousiaste serveerster werden wij keurig verzorgd. Weet helaas haar naam niet meer (zij werkt er pas 3 maanden) maar ze is een topper. Wij komen graag weer terug.

We hadden hoge verwachtingen van Hete Kolen door de vele goede reviews die we vooraf hadden gelezen. Helaas viel onze ervaring behoorlijk tegen. Bij aankomst moesten we ongeveer 15 minuten wachten voordat er iemand naar onze tafel kwam. We kozen voor de mixed grill, maar deze voldeed niet aan onze verwachtingen. De entrecote was grotendeels taai in plaats van mals, en de saus had nauwelijks smaak. We misten de smaak van een rub of marinade. Ook de biefstuk was grotendeels taai in plaats van mals. De spare ribs waren van goede kwaliteit, maar niet zo mals dat het vlees van het bot viel. Daarnaast kregen we risotto als bijgerecht, maar dit smaakte meer naar gewone rijst met kaas dan naar een echte romige risotto. Het enige echt positieve was het buikspek, dat heerlijk mals was en veel smaak had. Alsof dat nog niet genoeg was, waren onze jassen aan het einde van de avond kwijt. Het personeel moest een tijd zoeken voordat ze gevonden werden. Normaal gesproken plaatsen we geen reviews, maar omdat de ervaring zo tegenviel, vonden we het belangrijk om dit te delen. Hopelijk wordt hier iets mee gedaan!
