On our first evening in Amsterdam, we went to the lovely cocktail bar Hiding in Plain Sight. It was the perfect start to our stay in a beautiful setting, and we had one of the best cocktails we've ever tasted. We especially loved the personal service and the intimate atmosphere. We'll definitely be back!

Great place for custom cocktails or even new experiences in the pallette. I'm fussy on bars, after 12 or so bars in Amsterdam this trip, or many more over two years. This is the place to go. Great options and staff.

Would love to award a higher rating, but it’s a little tricky when you’ve walked for an hour to find it, only to be told they’ve served last orders….. an hour before the advertised closing time! Very poor show. Do better and try to be more welcoming.

A hidden in plain sight, gem. We dined nearby at R21 and Gebr. Hartering and stumbled across HPL. The cocktail menu is crafted with such care and ingenuity and watching the mixologist at work was as much a part of the great experience as the drinks themselves. A lovely place to start or end your evening. You’ll feel like you stepped into the past (in a good way).

It's hidden in plain sight only for the reason that the sign doesn't have any name on it. The windows could be darkened so you don't see people inside and then it really would be a speakeasy vibe. Nice interior but the bartenders didn't know much off the menu. It's really a place for those who want regular cocktails just made a little better (ie. mules and negronis). Otherwise, I'd pass. I don’t normally leave reviews, but this is an absolutely lovely place, and I cannot recommend it highly enough. Well worth going outside the usual touristy areas.

The main bartender (petite skinny lady with glasses) is unnecessarily controlling and rude to customers and other staff, and this turned the vibe of the bar off. To be honest, she was the worst-mannered bartender at 100+ speakeasy bars I’ve been to. And her cocktail isn’t even that good so stop being bossy and pretentious

You are missing out if you have not visited this place yet. In my opinion, It is an ideal spot for couples and cosy evenings.

I visited this bar on a recommendation by a friend. In an evening, all by myself, as I sauntered into this bar, on my last night in Europe, I wasn't imagining a lot with my mind. Aggressive, rude, unpleasant staff. For how pretentious they are, you may think they hold 2 PhDs in Nuclear Physics and Quantum Mechanics, but they only make cocktails and display the same level of empathy and manners you'd expect from a pycho on a bad day. Didn't even have one drink as I departed the building within the first 3 minutes I stepped foot inside.

ABSOLUTELY AVOID GOING HERE: My friend booked a table for her birthday on Friday 30 May. 3 of us arrive early, and first thing I am told by one of the barmaids, and i'm quoting letter by letter the exchange: "How many are you gonna be?" And since i did not organize this, I say: "I have no idea, I did not organise the birthday, but they should be here soon. In the meantime we can have a couple drinks?" She replies with: "You HAVE to call the birthday girl, if you are more then 6 you need to leave". And she repeated this to me other 2 times with a visibly alternated look in her eyes. I'm shocked 😂 What is this attitude and tone? I leave the place, while I wait for my friends to come outside. Once everyone is there, the barmaid and her little colleagues adopt the same rude approach with my friend that booked the birthday drinks and we all just leave this reputable establishments of people that skipped all social skills classes from primary school. I wish them all the best, or not 🫡

Such a welcoming bar, surely hiding in plain sight... cozy environment and lovely staff. They made a cocktail outside of the menu considering the sprit, flavour and aroma that I was looking for and it was simply lovely. PS: Tips is not included, but it is super worth it to add it!

Visited on a quiet evening with two colleagues with more on the way to join. Host said there was a 6 person limit for groups, even if we sit on multiple tables. But he was quite hostile in the conversation, arrogant and rude. I’ve never encountered a policy like this in cocktail bars around the world. We stayed for one drink and left, never to return. Atmosphere was dead, and bar empty.

Hiding in Plain Sight cocktail bar in Amsterdam was an incredible experience! We visited before dinner and were immediately impressed by the semi-hidden location—it’s tucked away without bright lights or a large sign, making it feel like a true hidden gem. Upon arrival, we were greeted with glasses of water and a thoughtfully designed cocktail menu that included their philosophy, which was a nice touch. The cocktails themselves were stellar—beautifully crafted, perfectly balanced, and full of unique flavors. At €17-20 per cocktail, we found the pricing reasonable, especially compared to similar bars in major U.S. cities. The service was excellent, with a knowledgeable and friendly staff who clearly had a passion for their craft. It was a memorable experience, and we’d highly recommend it to anyone looking for top-notch cocktails in a cozy, intimate setting.

Phenomenal cocktails and great service. Amazing music as well. Only thing I would suggest is getting rid of or upscaling the blackboards, makes the otherwise super stylish interior look a bit pleb.

A cozy little hide-out from the rest of the city life, but still in the middle of the city. I only had one drink but it was very tasty and the staff was very pleasant. Will come back again if I'm ever in Amsterdam in the future.

Hiding In Plain Sight appears to be a wonderful ”speakeasy” to be honest! It does have more of a crowded undersized bar vibe than a “speakeasy” vibe though- one usually expects a hidden door or something but perhaps that’s a little elementary of me. There is a cozy ambience awaiting though, despite the size, and cocktails that I hear are delightful! Unfortunately, we did not get to try them as they have a policy combined with particular staff that leaves them unable to honor reservations. They state they have a policy that requires reservations to have no more than 4 to 6 people per party. Since there were more of us than listed per policy, we made separate reservations without intention to interact between tables/reservations- there is likely an image of sophistication and class this place aims to maintain which I completely understand. We wanted to use our last night in Amsterdam to celebrate a large accomplishment of a close friend of ours and thought it would be an appropriate place to have a few rounds. After an initially warm greeting by employees, we soon arrived to our table to discover a reservation that was coldly left unhonored as the hostess found our separate tables/reservations coming in together. What if our group of 6 had just met the group of 2 as strangers right before we arrived? This policy seems to be enforced quite rigidly with extreme prejudice. This is despite intentions to keep our reservations to separate tables without inter-table interaction while enjoying the ambience of the establishment and providing excellent business to the “speakeasy”. On their credit, they are quite flexible with arrival times since we arrived nearly 10 minutes late so will definitely give them credit for this unexpected flexibility (for such an “exclusive” locale). The benefit of this experience was that we got a wonderful amount of exercise rushing to our reservation and I was able to close my activity rings on my Apple watch (only to be turned down as stated previously) but then we found a delightful establishment nearby that was able to accommodate and provide us with imbibments and excellent service that one would expect from a restaurant in a developed country. We had wonderful time elsewhere while likely saving money so it was still a great night! But give it a shot- maybe they’ll be more welcoming! And if it’s larger than 4 to 6, just make staggered reservations and pretend not to know the folks from the other reservation- that’ll probably fly. Perhaps I’ll get to hide in plain sight in another lifetime- unlikely though.

I recently visited this cocktail bar with my partner, and while the staff was very nice and welcoming, the experience fell short in other areas. The cocktails were expensive but lacked both flavor and creativity. We were hoping for something more unique or memorable, but the drinks fell flat. Additionally, the atmosphere was uncomfortable due to the excessive warmth inside, which made it difficult to fully enjoy our evening.

The staff was extremely rude and treated us with little respect, asking us not to use the phone and generally being short with us. The drinks average but very expensive. I will not be going back as I prefer to drink in friendlier establishments.

Went here for a cocktail the cocktails were okay. The staff on the other hand was not good the waitress asked us to put headphones on while we quickly listened to a message. Very pretentious vibe. cute location would be good if the staff was a bit more friendly.

Came here for after dinner drinks off the main areas. Cool charm atmosphere. Cocktails were very nice, good service.

Extremely rude bar tender. Left something at the seat i was sitting on the previous day, wouldnt let me check under the seat for a lost item even though no one was sat there. Stating that "this disturbs me". Extremely unnecessary and stuck up. Considering how much we spent the night before he couldve allowed me 10 seconds to check.

Very bad tent. Made a reservation, because otherwise there would be no room anyway. After traveling for 45 minutes and walking through the rain, we finally arrived 12 minutes later than reserved, and our spot had already been taken. No alternative or kindness was offered. We were shown the door. Not informed in advance that you must not be present one minute later than the reserved time.

What a ball tent! When you come in, there is no room. Thanks to other friendly guests we were able to sit at a table. We then received the menus, which were impossible to read due to the poor lighting, so we had to shine them with our mobile phone. The staff comes and asks you to dim the cell phones, pff. Can you take a photo? Then we went to Café Cuba, much friendlier and good service
