Zum Barbarossa was an absolute gem! As someone who has been to some of the top speakeasies in NYC, this place truly impressed me. The atmosphere was intimate and unique, with a vibe that felt both cozy and refined. I requested a custom cocktail, and the bartender crafted something exceptional—completely tailored to my taste. The food was equally fantastic, perfectly complementing the experience. If you’re looking for a top-notch speakeasy in Amsterdam, this is it!

Team Zum and Super host miss V, :) Thank you! Me and my Wife have been treated like king and queen. Upon arrival we did not made a reservation and it is almost impossible to walk in around certain hours. After ringing the bell 2 times, a cheerful employee with locks came to welcome us warmly and said that nothing was possible without a reservation...... I have been here before and know that the host downstairs is very accessible and works very professionally. I approached her and asked if she could make a spot available for me and my wife. She told me they where completely packed for the next 2 hours, she told me to come back after 1.5 hours to maybe get a spot. (I'm on my romantic vibes and Zum Barbarossa is the cherry on top of the cake, for a perfect night) Tonight.... maybe is worth it and i will definitely come back! After 1 hour and 25 minutes we went back and yesssss, we were welcomed even warmer through a personal approach and called me by my first name. (she listened very good when we had our conversation earlier that evening, very sharp of her to remember my name) and I really felt welcome and appreciated that. It should be a mandatory skill to listen very good to your customers in this sector, my compliments team Zum Barbarossa The cheerful door host with locks, accidentally hit my wife with one of the doors (almost nothing) in the hallway and felt so uncomfortable and offered her a cocktail to make it up with us. The cocktails where perfect, it's been a while sinds i tasted a good mule or a perfect balanced pornstar. Atmosphere, location, staff, MUSIC and service were perfect to complete my romantic evening. Great place for a date night, the staff is incredibly welcoming and knowledgeable. Joao made spectacular drinks for us and got to share the story of the building and Vivian made sure to make us feel comfortable and gave great food suggestions. In the go to list from now on!

We found this restaurant online and wanted to go because it was really beautiful and had a mysterious vibe. It didn't take us long to order food, which was really nice, but we were also advised to try the cocktails and they were perfect! Finally, we want to thank Viviana and João for providing us with such a kind and attentive service.

Lawyer wanted! Apparently you need a lawyer to make a reservation at Zum Barbarossa. The deposit one week in advance (which is not legal in the Netherlands by the way) did not work. You have to call the business yourself and have someone on the phone who will tell you that your reservation has been successful! Fantastic isn't it! One week later you arrive at the door with guests invited from abroad and at the entrance you are received by two unfriendly employees and told that your reservation is not in their system. No apologies offered for the inconvenience, but “you can sit in the restaurant upstairs, there may be room there, it's not our fault if your reservation is not in our system”. The manager of the reservation does not answer his phone, no adequate solution is offered. We will never come back here, arrogant and incompetent staff.

This place was such a great find and honestly one of my highlights for my trip to Amsterdam. We found it just looking for cocktail bars close to our hotel. Despite not having a reservation, the hostess made effort to accommodate us. While we waited for her, we made nice conversation with the bouncer. The told us all they had was a standing table. We took it. We ordered drinks and then a spot opened at the bar and i asked if they could take it and luckily they said yes. The drinks were absolutely top tier in terms of presentation, taste and creativity. Honestly, we went to one of the bars on the Top 50 bars in the world list in London and this bar was much better and what i was expecting from a place on the list. It is a little loud as they had a dj going but my boyfriend and i didn't mind that too much. If you're looking for fun, creative vibes, please make a stop here!

Amazing place for food and drinks. Service was awesome, the guys were very nice and attentive. It's better to book a table with good time in advance if you want to ensure your place. Pork cheeks were simply the best plate I've ever eaten. 🙌 I'll be back soon.

There is one thing that totally messes up perfect nights at this venue; the sound system is disturbingly bad. For a dinner with friends this shouldn't bother you. The ambiance, food and service is very good. But I would not go to or rent this place for clubbing or a party. Several friends of mine tried but even the best djs will not be able to counter the totally flat and dull sound their soundsystem produces. Which is sad. It takes at least 30% off another wise 💯 great place. So either bring your own system if you rent the place or go party somewhere else.

Last night I had a fantastic experience at Zum Barbarossa! The atmosphere is incredible, perfect for enjoying a good cocktail. The service was impeccable, especially the two Portuguese employees, who were extremely attentive and friendly. They made all the difference in the experience, showing professionalism and hospitality. I recommend everyone looking for a special place to spend a great night! I will definitely be back!

Really not worth it. Typical place that it’s just hyped up and that’s why people keep going. First, the music is too loud to speak, it’s good music but it can be annoying. The place is super small and there is no space for you to walk or dance, the tables are very close to each other. The drinks are expensive and not so good, the dirty martini it’s supposed to be a (very) dirty martini, and not at all, it’s the cleanest martini ever lol, with an oyster that is muschi (luckily we didn’t have a gastroenteritis). The doorman has the biggest ego I’ve seen in my life, though he is nice, and there is one waiter that is simply talking with everyone and doing nothing, there unprofessional the way he speaks with customers. Wouldn’t come back

I had a reservation at 21:00 on friday night with my wife. I came there at 21:20 and they did not let us in. The doorman said if you are late more than 15 mins it is a no-show. insisted to get in and they said there is no place for you inside. It is unbelievable, for just 20 mins did you gave our spot to somebody else??? and my deposit while making the reservation is gone. I guess they are making money just not letting the customers who are late....

Really lovely bar, great service and we had great time. Was super cozy with the dj and even though we didn't have a reservation on Friday night, they managed to get us a table quite fast. 100% recommend! But better to book in advance.

Best speakeasy in Amsterdam, the vibes and the service are amazing. Not to mention the cocktails that are mighty delicious! I was served by Vivivan and it was a wonderful experience, very attentive and caring whilst also welcoming and funny! I recommend it to everyone, and will for sure be back soon to try the food!

Nice hidden gem with a cozy atmosphere, extremely friendly staff and delicious cocktails.

I was there with a friend for a drink. We were inside for 2.5 hours. And we had to wait an average of 45 minutes for our drink twice. They were friendly, but the service was really bad. It was clear that our order and that of others were not placed properly or not at all. Such a shame, it is a very beautiful and atmospheric cocktail bar. We also noticed that the glasses are not filled full here. I have never seen half full espresso martinis before and judging by the faces of the other guests... neither have they.

Came here for my friends birthday! The staff was incredibly friendly and accommodating! I don’t think there’s any better service in Amsterdam. The bartender Liv was especially sweet. To top it all off the vibe of this bar is immaculate from the interiors to the music. You’re bound to have a special night if you come here ❤️

Amazing cocktails and amazing service

Amazing environment, the red light adds to the ambiance, making it a moody space, perfect for unwinding. I tried the pork cheeks, which I highly recommend, and the amazing cocktails made by Joao, who I could tell makes them with expertise and passion. Overall a great experience, it will become one of my regular hanging spots. Im excited to bring all my friends over.

Very nice bar with a nice atmosphere. We had made a reservation at 9 o'clock and had to wait at the bar for 50 minutes before finally being pushed into a corner (after we said something about it). We left after 15 minutes because no one came to take a drink. You pay 16 euros for a cocktail and you expect some service...

We were here big group of 30 people for a dinner. It was one menu. We tasted a lobster soup 🍲 with specially matched white Spanish wine. As a main dish was a cooked salmon again with specially matched French wine. Then, it was kind of a chocolate mouse cake on bisque. Coffee and wine. OK.

Delicious food and drinks, nice staff, tent, just a bit of a shame that we were looked away from our table because there was apparently a time limit. That's not a problem, but it was not indicated and not in the email, we would unfortunately never have ordered our 2nd bottle of wine if we had known that because we wanted to stay seated for a while. So maybe you can put it somewhere in the future or report it upon arrival.

The place stinks like a restroom. We were a 4 of us, had 1 drink each and got charged double the price. When raising the issue and showing the bill to the waitress, she immediately recognised 3 martinis we never asked for. The fact she knew exactly what was wrong with the bill without us specifying, tells me we are not the only ones who they charge with extra drinks. Very disappointing, NEVER coming back. If I could rate the place 0, I would.

It said walkins were accepted. Rang once no one answered, rang twine someone finally picked up to just say “booked!” and hang up. As a local I would not go there again as this was so rude plus located in the most touristy and dirty area of the city. Only for tourists

As we walked down the stairs we had our hopes up, it felt like a proper speakeasy. Once we got inside the staff was rude, it took about 10 minutes before they gave us a menu another 10 to place our order and our drinks came 30 minutes after that. Even though the place was empty. It looks like a scene from alladin mixed with burlesque in the most tacky way possible, all the design element were not adding up and it felt like 7 different people were involved in making these design decisions. The drinks are very basic, not what one would expect from a speakeasy, the espresso martini was nice (giving credit where credit is due) but we did ask for the classic instead of the one on the menu. The Mule was sweet and was lacking a punch, a lot of ice and not balanced. All in all would not recommend and would definitely not come back. Cheers!

The atmosphere was ok, looks a bit cheap but serves 16 euro cocktails…we didn’t try any food. The service was really great though. Don’t think I would come back unless there is really good music and party going on but this time it wasn’t.

The food was delicious. Service kept forgetting things even after reminding them. The place is small, but there is a good atmosphere, light is low but it fits the scene, with the music and ambiance. The tables are bery close together, which was a little annoying. But overall, it is a nice place, cosy and warm, and the food was good.

They didn’t let us in without a reservation, but once we walked in, they were actually empty. Their cocktail menu is very basic, nothing that would surprise you. Half of their cocktails were not available and we arrived 11:30 on a Friday night. Even though they were far from full, they took more than half an hour to bring our cocktails. We ended up leaving and going somewhere else. Worst of all: tacky vibes with red lights, terrible music and fake candles.

Amazing speakeasy. We rented it out for a birthday party for my family and had an amazing time with 15 people, amazing food, great wines, and perfect cocktails. Everyone also enjoyed their welcome drinks and the great service. The place is so cool in terms of decor design and centrally located.

Nice tent and atmosphere, but the service was extremely bad. We ordered main courses for the entire table, but for some the orders had not been placed. Originally we thought it would take a little longer, but when we asked, the waiter did not know that we were still waiting for a main course. We were then offered drinks on the house, which was nice, but no one came to take our order. Ultimately we had to ask about this ourselves. Very unfortunate.

Underground location, extremely secluded. Very good cocktails and it is certainly the highlight of the place. Very helpful staff and fast service. It is located under another room and it is necessary to ring. The place is very intimate and therefore has a shortage of tables; maybe it's better to book. When I was here, there was evening with DJ and house music. Highly recommended!

OMG! What a fun eventfull evening. Came with my girlfriend for a celebration, and the staff went above and beyond. The bartender Mark was really on top of the drinks and really knew his stuff. The food and atmosphere was good, but the service was really bad. It took quite a while until someone came to our table to take our order, and then we had to wait more than an hour for 2 cocktails and some oysters. Bottle of wine that was ordered afterwards was also forgotten. When we ordered a number of dishes, a lot of things went wrong (dishes were missing, wrong dishes were placed). We also regularly had to call the server ourselves because they don't come to your table on their own. Male waiter was very chaotic, female waitress kept trying to solve it. When I got home I saw that a dish had also been labeled twice on the receipt.

We went in for a drink, the bartender was SO rude and obnoxious, immediately said we needed to leave with such an attitude. Don’t spend your money here

Had a very nice evening here in Amsterdam with two friends. Around 1800 it is still very empty, but it is completely full around 1900. The service, and specifically Mark, gave us the tastiest cocktails and conviviality we were looking for. Would always come here again for a nice cocktail evening. For about 15 euros per cocktail you can have a fantastic experience.

The food is okay, the cocktails are average, thought everything is overpriced. The service is sad - the waitress tried to force people who were sitting nearby to buy food because “all other people eat” and they were just enjoying cocktails. In a bar. Personally I find this unacceptable. After we just couldn’t stay there and left. Also their paying terminal is one of those that forces you to tip.

Haven’t been able to fully experience the place but my experience with the service was quite shocking… booked weeks in advance for a special day for me and my fiancé, to arrive at the place and been told they there isn’t a table? They also didn’t tell us how long for one and they just tell us to wait at the door? Standing? No one tells us anything for minutes and completely ignore our existence. When I raise the point thst it is disappointing because we reserved the guy emotionless stares and me and says I’m sorry? Overbooked. To the management team, red flags. You can do better in the way you manage your bookings and manage the way you treat costumers that might have to wait (at least ask if we need something?) but ruining someone’s evening like this is unacceptable

This place is incredible! The service was amazing, everyone was so kind, so attentive, and very friendly! We didn’t have reservations but they tried their absolute best to get us in at the bar and they did. Joao took care of us at the bar and he was so great. Our drinks were delicious and he was so on top of the service. He made sure to constantly check in to see if we were enjoying our meal and drinks. The other server Sam would also check in on us and was very friendly. The food was so good! We ordered the lobster soup, garlic butter shrimp, king prawn plate, and cod plate. The shrimp and prawn were my favorite but it was all very very good! The service and staff made it even more enjoyable with how wonderful and friendly they are. I definitely recommend trying this place out. We’ll be back!

Das Ambiente ist wirklich hervorragend. Sehr versteckter Eingang, aber dies macht den Gang zur Lokalität zu etwas besonderem. Wir hatten Weißwein, der sehr lecker war und mein Hauptgang bestand aus den Linguni mit Vongole. Leider waren die Nudeln äußerst geschmacklos, die Vongole waren lecker. Zum Dessert gab es den Cheescake, der war empfehlenswert !

Leuke avond gehad. Maar ‘t wordt steeds minder leuk en meer mainstream. Ik ben 3x geweest. In t begin was het nog een ‘geheime’ bar, kaarsen en geen toeristen. Tegenwoordig is die exclusieve vibe er uit. Kaarsen zijn vervangen door LED lampjes. Stoelen zijn laag en niet top. Erg jammer, was zo’n top plek. Als laatste hielden ze zogenaamd rekening met mn vriendin haar allergieen. Alleen volgens mij had de ober het niet echt doorgegeven aan de keuken. Vriendin kwam thuis met een dikke buik en buikpijn. Zat waarschijnlijk toch boter ergens in. Al met al, als je er nog nooit geweest bent, zeker een aanrader. Alleen t was niet zo leuk als toen t net openging. Ik zou zelf er nu niet meer echt toe gaan.

Come downstairs from a hidden door on the side street, and disappear here. You can see us here almost every Friday evening. Its by far the best speakeasy bar in Amsterdam. Group dinners, date night, celebrating birthdays or just a casual drink. The interior is so cozy and the vibe is always amazing, thanks to Randa and the team! She is always in such good vibe and energy. 🪩😮‍💨🔥 can’t go without mentioning the food. Everything we had was delicious, but the turbot is a must. Can’t wait to be back.

My husband and I came here for our last dinner in Amsterdam while on our honeymoon. The Seafood Bar is highly recommended, but if you are down for the vibes and enjoy great music, come here instead! Seafood Bar provides the food and it was an amazing ambiance. We had the best server and great service! The staff even surprised us with complimentary champagne to celebrate! We are definitely coming here again!

Everything was really good until i realized that they made a mistake. The deposit 10euro was not included when i paid. Thus, I think I might be overcharged. A good service quility may try to avoid this happening again. I have leave a message though email. looking forward to your reply. updated on 10/9 already got the sincere apology and cordial compensation. still need to compliment the wine, the service, the vibe and of course, the bar itself. will return and enjoy again!

Wooooow! This is the most beautiful and fun speak easy I’ve been to in the whole of Amsterdam! They nailed every single aspect. The ambiance 10/10, music 10/10(had an amazing dj playing REAL good music), service 10/10! The lovely manager and bartender both have amazing energy and make you feel like you’re home. Can I live in this dance bar please. I rarely write reviews but I just had to! Can’t wait to go back.
