A secret corner that must be discovered This speakeasy is a true hidden gem. The setting is beautiful, cared for in detail, with a mysterious and elegant air that catches you from the moment you enter. The cocktails are spectacular: I tried a Bloody Mary with oyster that was crazy, a daring and delicious combination. The best thing is that they ask you your tastes and prepare something completely personalized. The DJ gives it an incredible atmosphere and the treatment from the staff was impeccable, super attentive and professional. Of course, it is important to reserve because the place is exclusive and fills up quickly. Highly recommended if you want to live a different and stylish experience.

Nice speak-easy to be in! Many of the cocktails have been given a new original look, which makes it fun to try them. In addition, we also received an explanation for each drink, highly recommended :)

Went to this place once before with a group of 5. It stinks a bit of fish, but the music was nice, and we stayed. They immediately handed us a membership card, probably because we spent more than 300 euros that evening or because they were still hungry of customers back then. Last Saturday night, there were 3 of us. After having dinner at The Seafood Bar, we headed to Zum Barbarossa. On their website, they claim: "For walk-ins, we prioritize guests from The Seafood Bar." That night, the place was apparently full but there wasn’t a single person in line. We showed our membership card at the door, hoping that they could make us sit even just at the counter. Instead we were told—rather bluntly—by a bouncer in a questionable faux-fur jacket that there was “no space for us.” Full stop. Look, customers can understand many things: that the place is small, that it fills up quickly, whatever the excuse may be. But what really leaves a bad taste is the way you’re treated and all the false promises behind memberships, websites etc. And in all honestly, now I don’t feel like giving this place a second chance. So we ended up going to the bar across the street, where at least we found a use for that membership card: we used it to fix a wobbly table.

We reserved but were half an hour late. A part from the fact that they pretended we didn’t inform them of the delay, everything was really good. The place look really nice and the food was good. We’ve got one pasta alle vongole and the cod. The pasta was a bit overcooked but the cod was really good. Drinks were really good too. I will come back.

Zum Barbarossa is a cozy speakeasy with a great vibe, cool bartenders and top-notch cocktails. The space is limited, so it can feel a bit packed, especially during Amsterdam Cocktail Week, when I visited. There were no seats available, only standing room, and many of the specials for the week were already sold out. The bartenders are knowledgeable and give great drink recommendations. Prices are standard for Amsterdam, so nothing unexpected there. I didn’t try the food, so I can’t comment on that. One thing to note, the DJ they had for the night played house music the entire time. I personally enjoyed it, but my friends who aren’t big house fans felt like it was the same song on repeat. Overall, a cool cocktail bar with a great atmosphere, but be prepared for limited space!

Fine, not as fantastic as TikTok makes it seem, but okay for a drink and a snack. It was a shame that the staff did not inform us that the kitchen would be closing. We were chatting and hadn't finished eating yet. Didn't even have dessert... so it came as a disappointment that we couldn't order more.

The facade of the bar is made of mosaic, a decorative art that consists of creating geometric or abstract figures with small fragments of materials. It is not a prominent restaurant, so; It has a mysterious atmosphere because you can only enter by pressing a bell, which takes you to the basement via a staircase with half-red lights!! chic!! The service is great! We were served by Viviana, a Brazilian who, because she was Portuguese, was able to help us perfectly with the menu! And that's why the experience was AMAZING!!! Drinks at Zum Barbarossa was a lovely start to our Saturday evening. We were lucky to get a table without reservation. Very speakeasy vibes, you really have to look hard to spot the door access, in a basement. The staff were very welcoming and spent time with us, particular shout out to Viviana. Loved the hospitality. Would come back again! 🍸

Nicely decorated speak easy with a quiet character. Especially ringing the bell and going downstairs is a nice extra. The cocktails were not very exciting and could be used for much more than simple mixed drinks. The food was okay, but not particularly tasty. In terms of food and drinks it's nothing special, especially for the price you could expect a bit more

Disappointing Experience The negative impression started right at the entrance when the staff asked for our IDs (which is fine) but then proceeded to interrogate us with weird questions to “double-check” if we were lying about where we were from. It felt unnecessary and unwelcoming. Once inside, we were seated at the most uncomfortable table in the venue (the only one without the candle on) A small detail, but it definitely added to the feeling that we weren’t exactly welcome. The cocktails were completely flavorless. I ordered a Margarita, and it was hands down the worst one I’ve had in Amsterdam so far. For €15, I expected at least a decent drink, but instead, it tasted like a watered-down mix with no balance whatsoever. To make things worse, I felt sick the entire night after just one cocktail—as if I had downed ten. That says a lot about the quality of alcohol they use.

A very cozy cocktail bar. Tasty cocktails and the service was very friendly. When we left we got angry looks from the host at the entrance and didn't say hello. Because we wanted to take a photo inside at the end, but this gentleman didn't let us. Very unfortunate that this happened at the end.

Where to start, the drinks took over 30 minutes to arrive despite being premixed (first red flag). When we went up to ask about the drinks the first time they said they were finished and would be brought soon. After another 10 minutes of waiting we asked the server again and told her we would like to leave if we don’t get them soon as we had already waited a long time and the vibes were not it. She then told us they were being made now and if we could wait another 5 minutes. When they finally arrived they were almost undrinkable. We asked for one drink we didn’t touch to be taken off the bill to which the waitress became confrontational, asking us if we were familiar with the drink. She then got her manager or the bar tender who came and was more rude interrogating us. All in all we spent 100 euroes and left unhappy.

Loved the experience, Viviane is an amazing Manager, she took great care of me and my friends, even though it was busy the drink come super fast and they were amazing, we got the pleasure of meeting Joao and Liv an amazing bartender duo, overall a great place to have good food with great drinks and an amazing service

Very nice this speakeasy bar. It's nice and a bit mysterious when you are allowed inside after pressing the bell. It is cozy and the service is very nice. They often ask if you are having a good time and if you need anything. Food is very tasty just like the cocktails. We only expected there to be a wide choice of cocktails. It is a cocktail bar after all. But we found that disappointing. And we found a downside that the tables are very close together. Definitely recommended.

The bar has a nice atmosphere, nice music and the service is very friendly. Since it is a cocktail bar, you expect a wide choice of cocktails and that is disappointing. The cocktails are of good quality. The menu for dinner also does not offer much choice, even though the food comes from the restaurant the seafood bar, you do not have much choice of fish dishes. The food was also lukewarm, but still tasty. If the choice was wide and the food was hot, you would get 5 stars. It is a nice tent to take your loved one to!

Ring the bell, tell them you have a reservation, descend the stairs into a lush, velvety parlor with outstanding beverages and immaculate setting (I hesitate to use the word "vibes" here--feels just too much, though I think that's the best word). Prompt, attentive service. Wonderful cocktails. A bit on the expensive side, though I think that's because it plays into the experience. If you're a speakeasy collector or connoisseur, this is a must for your list.

Upon arrival we did not made a reservation and it is almost impossible to walk in around certain hours. After ringing the bell 2 times, a cheerful employee with locks came to welcome us warmly and said that nothing was possible without a reservation...... I have been here before and know that the host downstairs is very accessible and works very professionally. I approached her and asked if she could make a spot available for me and my wife. She told me they where completely packed for the next 2 hours, she told me to come back after 1.5 hours to maybe get a spot. (I'm on my romantic vibes and Zum Barbarossa is the cherry on top of the cake, for a perfect night) Tonight.... maybe is worth it and i will definitely come back! After 1 hour and 25 minutes we went back and yesssss, we were welcomed even warmer through a personal approach and called me by my first name. (she listened very good when we had our conversation earlier that evening, very sharp of her to remember my name) and I really felt welcome and appreciated that. It should be a mandatory skill to listen very good to your customers in this sector, my compliments team Zum Barbarossa The cheerful door host with locks, accidentally hit my wife with one of the doors (almost nothing) in the hallway and felt so uncomfortable and offered her a cocktail to make it up with us. The cocktails where perfect, it's been a while sinds i tasted a good mule or a perfect balanced pornstar. Atmosphere, location, staff, MUSIC and service were perfect to complete my romantic evening.
