Review of Restaurant Il Forno, Roermond Visited on September 30, 2025 We entered the restaurant five minutes before the official opening time. The chef was standing at his counter, eyeing us skeptically. As soon as we sat down, he asked directly if we had a reservation. We said no—and suddenly weren't so sure we'd even get a table. He was building suspense, probing us. I tried my best because there was something special about this. Something different. And indeed: we got the table. No menu, no prices—my wife: OMG! This intrigue, this suspense 😍 exactly my kind of thing. He gave us some time. My wife started reading the Google reviews: "The visit ended with the police!" I asked her not to read any further and to enjoy the meal instead. "Do you feel this authenticity?" I asked her. "This is a chef with heart, soul, and soul—a true Italian," I said 😍. Then the friendly, young, and busy waitress came and read the menu aloud. Appetizer: There's only one. Fish, meat, vegetables—a little bit of everything. Price? Unknown. They wouldn't tell us 😂 We ordered it. And what can I say? It was divine! Main course: Fish, pasta, or meat—three choices. Price? 🤷‍♂️ I had the pork tenderloin, my wife the ribeye. It came with thick spaghetti with olive oil and pepperoni, served in a hot pan over a candle—I'd never experienced anything like it. The taste ☺️ Raw vegetables from the grill—amazing! Wine? There's exactly one type 😂 Awesome! Dessert: "What do you have?" Chocolate cake or tiramisu. My wife didn't want anything at first – but then she ate more than half of my cake 😂 Plus a second bottle of water and an espresso. "Oh dear," my wife said, "the bill..." 🙈 It arrived promptly. And that, too, was an explosion of flavor: We had expected around €130-145 – we paid €105, not including the tip. I actually wanted to keep this insider tip to myself. But that would have been a shame. It was a wonderful evening at an Italian restaurant in Puglia, as his wife told me. When we left, the place was packed – and yet there was a fantastic atmosphere. I'm sure those bad reviews were fake. Everyone obviously wants to keep their spot to themselves 😉 Thanks to the owner and his team ❣️

The food is good… prices are reasonable… however, there is no diversity in the menu. In fact, the main negative point is that there is no menu at all. The first staff member informed us upon arrival that they do not have a menu… so it was unclear what kind of dishes they serve. Even though she quickly mentioned around ten items, it was difficult to follow and not very satisfying to choose without any clear description of the dishes. Other than that, the location is good, and there is a parking garage nearby. I believe that if they provide a proper menu with photos, it would make the experience much better and definitely more inviting to visit again. but for now i don't recommend anyone to go unless they improve their services !

Delicious food and fabulous service. My wife and I were in Roermond for one night and had a wonderful supper at Il Forno. Thank you to Franz and the whole team. We will see you again next time we are in town. 👏👏

We visited the restaurant as a family, but were extremely disappointed right from the start. The woman who greeted us was very rude and strikingly arrogant. This behavior was so unacceptable and inappropriate that we decided to leave immediately, even before we had sat down or ordered anything. Service and respectful treatment of guests are paramount in the restaurant business. Without this foundation, a visit is impossible. For this reason, we can unfortunately only award one star.

We ended up at this restaurant in Roermond, unfamiliar with the area. It wasn't very busy, and the waitress/owner told us that they work without a menu, but that the chef prepares a number of dishes. In my mind, I was already saying goodbye. But when she mentioned the starters, I paused for a moment. They sounded good. And then she gave us the list of main courses we could choose from: that sounded good too. And then we also got spaghetti with oil and garlic on the side, my favorite! So, off to the table we went. Nice wine to go with it (I'm no connoisseur, but it tasted very good). The starter was a mix of all kinds of delicious Italian appetizers. For the main course, we had meat and fish, and it tasted super! And then we ordered dessert as well: a bit of everything, and it was a real treat. End of story: glad we ended up here, had a really, really delicious meal, and a nice atmosphere too. Highly recommended!

We thought it was fantastic. No large menu, so it's just whatever the chef feels like making. Lots of small dishes, so there's something for everyone.

We had a bite to eat because our sister got very bad reviews, which led us to Zinc. But after fifteen minutes of being ignored by the staff, we were moved to an empty table at Il Forno. The specialty beers were excellent. We weren't particularly impressed with the appetizers. They were too cold and had probably been in the refrigerator for a while. Tip: use freshly grated Parmesan cheese instead of sprinkles. The shrimp tasted delicious, straight from the fishmonger's fish tank. You could do with more of that. The main course (lamb trio) was delicious. Wine; it's a shame you can't order by the glass. The staff could be a bit more friendly and enthusiastic (and I'm not talking about the lovely gray-haired waiter and the Italian Nonna). Another tip: if there are guests sitting outside your glass doors and you decide to close them due to the cold, offer them the opportunity to switch seats. These guests felt quite surprised and left out.

It was a mix of authentic and outrageous. There really isn't a menu, just the dishes the owner rattles off – which I don't find that unusual, at least not in southern Europe. But no menu also means no prices. What we got was quite tasty. Not amazing, but perfectly fine. What wasn't fine were the ridiculously small portions (far from filling). And then the exorbitant bill. I don't need to go back.

Delicious food, fresh and pure in taste! Because they don't have a menu, not only the food but also the bill was a surprise!! This surprise was definitely worth it. Because in addition to the delicious food, the service was also truly perfect. We thoroughly enjoyed it!!

We had a late dinner at Il Forno on May 31, 2025, due to heavy rain and thunderstorms, and extensive flooding in several villages along the way, where the car had to drive through areas that exceeded the license plate. The street with nightlife was very busy, but there was plenty of room at Il Forno, and we received a friendly welcome. Due to our late arrival, only a main course and dessert were possible. Il Forno doesn't work with a menu, but offers two set menus, each consisting of a pasta dish with meat or fish, with a choice of five different meat or fish. We chose a delicious sirloin steak as the meat, which was served with a pasta with a light bite and tasty grilled vegetables. The delicious sirloin steak was served with accompanying baked potatoes and some vegetables, and the pasta was served in a frying pan on a rack with a tea light. A surprise dessert was provided. We had a wonderful evening with good food and friendly staff. Highly recommended.

Never before have staff come and indicate that 'you can inject your insulin now' and fifteen minutes later - to the minute - serve the main course after a brief explanation about severe diabetes to one of the people in our group. The food is excellent and affordable, but this made it a highly exclusive customization! ...and on a busy King's Day; Really very good!

The three of us spontaneously went there for dinner last night. There is no menu, but you can choose between various fish and meat dishes, which are served with pasta, vegetables and salad. The quality of the food and the value for money were very good!

Auf der Such nach einem Restaurant, haben wir hier am Ostersamstag einen Tisch gefunden. Wir wurden sehr sympathisch empfangen und war erst mal überrascht, das es keine Speisekarte gibt. Die sehr nette Inhaberin hat uns dann auf die Speisen hingewiesen und wie der Ablauf der Bestellung abläuft. Nach unserer Bestellung haben wir zeitnah unsere Getränke und das gewünschte Essen erhalten. Die Speisen waren wirklich ausgefallen und sehr lecker. Service und Hauswein sind ausgezeichnet. Es war ein wunderbarer Abend, wir freuen uns auf das nächste Mal.

Italia aan de Roer When you enter this Italian restaurant you feel like you are in Italia The restaurant has no menu, brilliant because I hate menus. The average cafe has the same menu. Only the question: What do you like or not like and the choice between fish and meat. We had shrimp, beef, medallion pasta and some other dishes which we shared between the three of us. Everything very informal and cozy.

Il Forno is a really cozy autenthic italian restaurant. We got there without a recommendation, just passing by. We had starters+main course, desert and drinks, the food was super tasty and enough for 3 people. The place itself reminds me the familly restaurants in Italy, staff is super friendly and nice. Costs are around 50 euro per person, totally worth it!!! We definitely recommend it and we intend to return soon!

Everything was absolutely perfect! The service is a bit different from what I would expect normaly. They do not have a menu, but fear not as there is a big variety of food to choese from, the service is absolutely great and the food is without a doubt, excellent !

They have no physical menu, but they have plenty of options to choose from and the staff is very friendly and happy to detail each dish. The atmosphere is very cozy, definitely will come back. I can’t recommend it enough!

I completely disagree with the last review. This is very much an authentic Italian restaurant. Simple ingredients, elevated to perfection. I loved that there was no menu. The selection was communicated, and it all sounded delicious. We were very happy with our choices and my 3 year old daughter absolutely loved the pasta and vegetables! The staff couldn’t have been more friendly and welcoming and made a great fuss of my daughter, who even got her drawing added to the wall of children’s art, which was lovely! We will definitely return when back in Roermond!

The reviews of the predecessors, which were rated with a *, are unfair. We eat there every time we are in Roermond. The food tastes very good. If you didn't like it, it's simply because you can't compare the food with McDonald's. Good food costs money. If you can't afford it or have no idea what good food is, just go to McDonald's. You're better off there.

Il Forno is gevestigd aan de gezellige Roerkade, tussen allerlei andere horeca-gelegenheden. Je kunt er in de serre eten, met uitzicht op het water en het voorbij wandelend publiek, of gewoon binnen. Wij houden van de formule dat aan tafel wordt verteld wat ‘de pot schaft’. Het goede nieuws is dat we prima gegeten hebben; echtgenote is als geboren Italiaanse altijd kritisch, maar ook zij was erg tevreden. Een combinatie van klassieke voorgerechten werd gevolgd door heerlijke vlees- en visbereidingen. Daarbij gulle glazen wijn en goede espresso toe. Het slechte nieuws is dat men ‘bezig is met afbouwen’. Ga er dus op korte termijn heen, als je nog eens genieten wilt van de echte Italiaanse keuken. Prijs in overeenstemming met het gebodene.

To expensive, bad food, bad service, check was written with hand without prices, hence not a real check. Every cent that was spent here is wasted. You can try once, walk out dissatisfied and never to return again.

I only felt sorry for the waiter who was very nice, but the rude owner forces you to eat what he says, either you eat it or leave, so you don't treat the customers, and not just scold the staff that is not recommended

See a number of reviews posted by the vegan oat juice steppe grass brigade, listen, this is AUTHENTIC Italian food, and that includes meat and fish. The whole vegan hype does not give you the right to force this on everything and everyone. Just go to McDonald's for a MC plant.

Super lekker gegeten. Eigenlijk per ongeluk hier terecht gekomen omdat de buren vol waren. Maar wat een mazzel hadden wij. Heel vriendelijke bediening en een eigenaar die lekker z’n ding doet. Zoals meerdere malen beschreven je krijgt wat hij vanochtend op de markt vond. Vooraf “gewoon” wat voorgerechtjes. Man dit was al een maaltijd op zich allemaal erg lekker. Daarna het hoofdgerecht geserveerd met een heerlijke spaghetti zonder franje maar met volop smaak. Dan nog een heel klein gaatje overgehouden voor een fantastische tiramisu. Kortom heerlijk gegeten en met een grote glimlach terugdenkend. Oké je moet er maar tegen kunnen en hebben ook gezien dat mensen meteen weer weglopen. Vegetarisch kennen ze volgens mij niet.

Na shoppingdagje terug naar Il Forno geweest. Aan tafel vragen ze jou of je vlees of vis wilt. Deze keer was er meer keuze 😉. Lekker stukje Iberico gegeten. Bij tafelgenoot nog beetje rose. Bij mij net te veel gebakken. Anderen aten zalm, flink stuk of lamsvlees. Op ieder bord wat aardappel en sla. Ernaast nog portie gestoomde groenten, potje sla en reuze kom pasta. Lekker gegeten. Goeie sfeer. Ook (van afkomst) Italiaanse mensen aanwezig. Extra vibe 😉. Propere toiletten Was er vrij donker. Foto’s onderbelicht Op einde is de rekening wel altijd verrassing en je weet ook niet wat wat kost gezien enkel totaalbedrag.

The restaurant works with fresh products, really great. We had a very delicious main course, the pasta was well seasoned and the piece of meat was tasty and tender! The service was very pleasant and had a nice chat. The only pity was that we wanted a sweet dessert, but unfortunately it was some kind of cherry sorbet.

Something completely different. No menu but you can directly order at the chef: different choices meat or fish. The plates look simple but the taste is mouthwatering. Also the spaghetti tasted far above average. Don't forget to visit the toilets, a special experience. Great choice when you have visited The Designers Outlet, at only 5 minutes walking distance. Certainly recommended.

Lovely atmosphere and friendly staff. I think the concept of no menu but the choices you get is a great idea, simply because you are surprised and eat something different from classic Italian cuisine. The starter and main course were top notch, well presented and worth repeating.

Vegetarians are not welcome here. This is clearly visible in the dishes they serve (cucumber, a fried egg and an empty pasta for examples). They still dare to ask the top price for it.

Real Italian cuisine, quality of fish and meat is top! As well as the service and handling.

Ein sehr gutes Restaurant mit nettem und hilfsbereitem Personal. Der einzige Nachteil ist das es dort keine Karte gibt, man muss sich zwischen Fisch oder Fleisch entscheiden . Das Essen ist aber den hohen Preis wert . Wir kommen bestimmt wieder.

Na de goede recensies hier plaatsgenomen en vol verwachting zaten we aan tafel. We hadden vis/ vlees. Tot onze verbazing kregen we een pannetje pasta dat qua volume voor 1 persoon was en dit terwijl wij met 3 volwassen personen zaten. Ieder wat kleine stukjes vlees en vis…. That’s it???? En wij zijn absoluut geen grote eters. De kwaliteit was erg eenvoudig, maar zoals we van Italië kennen kan eenvoudig juist overheerlijk zijn. Helaas was dit niet het geval. De prijs/ kwaliteit vonden wij erg scheef en dit is voor ons geen tweede bezoek waard.

Ein etwas anderes Restaurant, denn es gibt keine Karte! An dem Tag gab es 4 Gerichte zur Auswahl ... 2 Fisch- und 2 Fleischgerichte. Dazu gab es dann noch aus der Pfanne Spaghetti aglio olio. Das war sooo lecker! Das Medaillon zerfiel auf der Zunge und der Fisch war frisch und sehr gut gewürzt .... hmmmm! Der Service war nett und höflich!

Die Idee und das Konzept eigentlich gut ! Zur Planung des Personals und zum Einkauf ! Wir waren von der Vorspeise begeistert! Der Hauptgang war von der Fleischqualität schlecht . Leider sehr unfreundlicher Umgang.

Wirklich Top. Speisekarte gibt es nicht und braucht man auch nicht. Man wählt zwischen Fisch, Fleisch und Vegetarisch. Und bekommt dann ein Menü vorgeschlagen mit Vorspeise und Hauptspeise. Nach Unverträglichkeiten wird sich auch erkundigt. Waren sehr zufrieden - alles sehr lecker.

Echt een super plek om lekker te eten!! Ze hebben geen menu kaart maar daarvoor in de plaats legt de chef uit wat ze hebben, echt een super idee! Super lief personeel en echt super lekker eten. Alles is op de puntjes gemaakt en ik kan niet beschrijven hoe lekker het eten is. Ik ga hier vaker eten. Zeker een aanrader!

Wir suchten, zum Abendessen, ein schönes Restaurant in Roermond und gingen spontan ins Il Forno. Die sehr freundliche Bedienung kam und fragte, was wir essen und trinken wollten. Natürlich fragten wir zuerst nach der Speisekarte. Antwort: es gibt keine. Unsere Überraschung kann man sich vorstellen! Wir konnten wählen zwischen Fisch und Fleisch, ein vegetarisches Gericht könnte man eventuell zubereiten. Was soll ich sagen: alles, wirklich alles war sehr schmackhaft zubereitet (nachgewürzt haben wir absolut nichts!), der Hauswein (rot und weiß) lecker und das Ambiente, sowie der Service top!

Vooraf, dit gaat een positief verhaal worden. Je komt als wildvreemde in Roermond en zoekt iets leuks om te eten. via Google deze zaak gevonden met mooie reviews en gereserveerd. Bij binnenkomst schrik je, het is oud en gedateerd. Vooral omdat wij de eerste 10 minuten de enige waren in het restaurant was het wat ongezellig.. Een wat oudere meneer komt langs om de bestelling op te nemen. Wilt is Vis of vlees? we kiezen voor de combi. Wat wilt u vooraf? ach, doe maar wat.... En dan begint het, het ene na het andere heerlijke gerecht komt op tafel. Ondertussen stroomt de zaak vol en dat is gezellig. Nog nooit at ik zulke lekkere pasta trouwens. Advies aan d eigenaar, laat het zoals het is. verander niks en doe het zoals jullie het leuk vinden. als wij weer eens in de buurt van Roermond zijn komen we zeker terug.

Heerlijk Italians eten. Verrukkelijke pasta en heel leuk geen menu kaart. Gewoon lekker goed eten

Authentisches, italienisches Restaurant. Speisekarte bekamen wir nicht zu Gesicht, sonder ausschließlich die Empfehlung des (Vermutlich) Inhabers. Wir haben uns für die Vorspeisen-Variationen und im Hauptgang für die Fischauswahl entschieden. Alles sehr lecker.

De hoofdmaaltijd - niet via een menukaart dus ook geen prijsindicatie - vonden we best lekker (vooral de vis). Het dessert was o.i. een cremepudding en geen tiramisu. De bediening was prima.

Niet onder de indruk Alles op de bon 4 stukjes aardappel matig gekruid of al olie teveel scampi niet zuiver....

Sehr gutes Essen! Es gibt wie gesagt keine Speicherkarte. Der Chef erklärt, was er gerade in welcher Menge anbieten kann. Das ist dann aber auch wirklich gut. Über Preise spricht man nicht. Wir lagen so bei 60€ pro Person.

Generell kann man in den Niederlanden nicht so gut essen. IL forno ist die Ausnahme. Keine Karte. Fleisch oder Fisch. Nudeln in Knoblauchsausse 😋. Wein des Hauses. Alles super lecker!!! Ende des Jahres ist wohl Schluss. Daher sollte man sich beeilen!

Goed restaurant, vriendelijke personeel maar geen Italiaan ondanks de naam. Ze hebben geen kaart maar een keuze uit vlees of vis of een combinatie van beide waar je dan spaghetti bij krijgt geserveerd wat op zich apart is maar wel heel goed. De antipasti was erg lekker en ook het dessert was zeker de moeite waard Zeker aan te raden

This place is so unique unlike other restos. There is NO MENU! Everything given to us was a surprise! We were only asked if we want meat fish or a combo! This was the combo meal (probably different when u go) but the taste was alright and the portion was big! Just bit shocking cuz i didn’t know the price. This meal was €57 slightly pricy but still alright. Fun experience
