Kala Grieks & Mediterraans Restaurant in Binnenstad

We placed a pre-order through Thuisbezorgd eten for a birthday, costing a substantial sum (over €100). Then, an hour and a half before delivery, the order was canceled, probably because Kala didn't have a delivery driver. We then had to wait three business days for our money to be refunded. It's ridiculous and unbelievable that this company is still affiliated with Thuisbezorgd, considering they often fail to deliver.

A bland and empty restaurant. It's a shame the building itself is beautiful. The souvlaki consisted of large, very dry (partly black from the grill) pieces of chicken with little flavor. The souvlaki special was dry chicken, but a tasty piece of steak. For a special dish costing 28 euros, you'd expect some gyros or some decoration instead of an empty plate. It was definitely not worth 85 euros. Too bad.

We had a delicious bifteki. A lovely atmosphere in the old Vlissingen stock exchange building.

I ordered tenderloin pieces in tomato sauce. What I got was a tough stew with two tomato slices, lots of Amsterdam onions, and a layer of fat on the meat. This was definitely not tenderloin. I won't be ordering from this restaurant again.

Food is great! Really delicious food, I think I've been here 6 times already and the restaurant continues to surprise me. Service is extremely friendly! Nothing to complain about.

Fantastic food and great service

We had a wonderful meal here, especially the fish, which was incredibly delicious. The staff were super friendly, the prices were reasonable, and the restaurant is situated in a beautiful building. An automatic 5 points for atmosphere, as the fair was right next door, which, of course, was beyond the restaurant's control.

We eat in Greek restaurants more often and therefore we know the difference between good and bad. I seriously doubt the authenticity of the 5 star reviews given. This is a mediocre Greek restaurant, with little to no Greek passion for food/service. Quality of food is okay, but not Greek authentic. The quantity of food is mediocre and we had to wait a long time for it. Services feels awkward and bit unprofessional. Prices are too high for what you get. Restaurant decor and atmosphere feels far from Greek. Advice, keep looking for the next restaurant.

The stock exchange building at Beursplein 11 refers to the merchant times of yesteryear. A predecessor of the grain beus was introduced as early as 1540, when merchants in Vlissingen cautiously began to focus on trading activities other than fishing. The current building was built in 1635 and was an open building with a colonnade on the state side until 1880. In 1880 it was converted into a shop and the colonnade was closed. The historic building now houses the Greek Restaurant Kala. closed on Mondays other days open from 4:30 PM - 10:00 PM

I feel ripped off. You pay way too much for what you get. A few pieces of meat, a meager salad TJE and few fries. Do not eat the meat (minced meat). They were 20 minutes early! Luckily we got home earlier after being away for a day. We really feel ripped off. Paid more than €50 for 2 people. Severe stomach ache after eating. So I think it was either spoiled or not hygienically done. What a disgrace.

Went out for dinner tonight, once but never again... grumpy service, portions too small and lukewarm... not to be missed... Tip: check out the reviews... Apparently people often respond to reviews saying that people had not been there? 1 answer.. if only that were the case! I would have liked to miss this.

Ate here on the 2nd Christmas, with my sons. Welcome, nice relaxed atmosphere, food was delicious and very friendly staff. In short, we will definitely come back again. Thanks for this nice evening

It was surprisingly good the first time. Very friendly service and delicious food, highly recommended.

Staggering! Picked up squid, lamb chops and gyros yesterday. To begin with, it wasn't ready when I came to pick it up at the agreed time. Once home, they turned out not to be lamb chops, but another piece of horribly tough meat with bones attached. I couldn't even cut it, let alone chew it. Moreover, it was not salted or otherwise seasoned at all! The far too small salad was dripping with oil and consisted of two tablespoons of iceberg lettuce, one pickled pepper, one olive and half a slice of tomato. Any fool can squeeze some lemon or vinegar into that?! And so little salad, while we got fries for 8 people! Regular frozen fries and also unsalted. Finally, the gyro was super dry. I was completely baffled: Spent more than 70 euros and everything went straight into the garbage bin. Greece is deeply ashamed of this failure.

We have now eaten there for the second time and it was again super tasty. I had the leg of lamb and my husband, mixed grill, and that was also super tasty.

Now that the restaurants are closed due to the Corona measures, we have had complete meals delivered several times. This was very well taken care of every time, delivered on time, warm and excellently cared for. Highly recommended for lovers of freshly prepared Greek food. This applies to grilled, fried and oven dishes, such as souvakis, fried fish such as youvetsi and stiphado. And don't forget the delicious fresh salads such as Choriatiki with delicious Greek feta and kalamata olives. On a beautiful Friday evening (August 21, 2020) we were able to sit on the terrace at the Greek-Mediterranean restaurant Kala. We had an extensive meal there: Tzatziki me Pita, Choriatiki, kalamarakisalata and youvetsi Arni and Glossa with ouzo and a beer. The food and the friendly and correct service made for a perfect enjoyable evening.

Wonderful service and food on this evening, the big boss added a few extra ouzo. We enjoyed the Moussaka and the bifteki. The place is highly recommended to first have something to eat and then relax at a historic place in Vlissingen. The old town hall of Vliss... Well what more could you want!

Food was very average and incomplete and the service was slow

French bread in advance; got 5 small pieces of that pre-baked supermarket baguette. Way too little for that money. We had to wait at least 45 minutes for our food and received the heaviest portion of gyros I have ever had at a Greek restaurant and the salad also had no taste at all. Too bad, I expected a bit more. Service was very friendly. We won't be coming here a second time.

Never had such bad Greek food as here. In a beautiful old building in Vlissingen with super nice service, and house pop music in the background. The Greek atmosphere is hard to find here. Gyros was not Gyros at all, but a pork cutlet with lots of sinews cut into small pieces. The Biftekki looked more like a factory meatball filled with feta and was way too salty. The tzazikki was very tasty. No, not really recommended.

Very unkempt shop, doesn't even have anything to do with Greeks. Staff sitting on the terrace with the boss and his followers, smoke, drink and repeatedly interfere with the service. Everything was very careless, from the rotten flower boxes to the counter area. The food was more than cheeky, the pan gyros were lukewarm, apparently they didn't even have a hot pan. Fries without salt and rock-hard rice in a ball shape, didn't eat anything, looked worse than dog food, and for 20 euros p.p., I estimate that was a value of 1.50 euros per plate, really cheeky. So at least eat a few fries but without old salt Fat isn't better either so paid and off to Middelburg to McDonald's and by the way very tasty clean and stylish there.

Ordered gyros with cheese and mushrooms. Cheese and mushrooms were hard to find. Gyros seemed more like cooked meat than grilled. Also not much taste. I have been to many Greek restaurants before, but twice this was nothing. Service was friendly and good. I voiced my complaint and she would pass it on.

The atmosphere is okay, if you sit outside you have a nice view of the water. The food itself was mediocre and the service was unfriendly. We sat down early so there was hardly anyone there yet and yet certain homemade lemonades were not available. The one that was available (lemon) had a super weird aftertaste, I doubted whether it was homemade or a cheap syrup. We didn't stay for long because we got some dirty looks from the waiters.

I was looking forward to delicious gyros from the rotisserie, but then I got gyros from the pan (not possible at all)! Because it wasn't tasty at all and Tatziki was also very bland in taste. Service was super friendly, I would like to give it 5 stars 😉!

The place where you want to be for delicious Greek food. Been here for the first time and was not attracted by the negative reactions (you will find whiners in all levels of society), but what delicious food it was, we will definitely come back. Service was great. great and friendly.

Wow! I really have to say, I haven't had Greek food this good for a long time, the food and the service were great, we'd love to come back. Unfortunately I didn't take a photo of the starter with the bread, but it was amazing too.

Ate here tonight, even though no one else was there, you still got cold food on your plate. Some pieces of gyros seemed frozen so cold. Very little Greek flavor to the food, a real travesty. Never again. I have visited many Greek restaurants but this was really the worst.

Most disgusting tasteless food I have ever tasted. Pareed fish and squid rings, the breading of which was absolutely not crispy but soft, the salmon was bone dry. Dry minced chicken breast undercooked. If you want to spend money, transfer it to giro 555 and you will get more for your money than you would spend on Kala. peanut butter is even smoother and tastier.

To remember for the service and kindness of the staff and the cook. Decent cuisine.

Too bad, we had good food and service here a few years ago. Now a restaurant where the heating didn't seem to be on and after 15 minutes no one had come to our table. We left without the staff noticing. Not for us anymore.

Good food but the prices are absurd

When we are in Zeeland we MUST spend an evening in this great restaurant. The restaurant is very cozy and the food is tasty with a good selection. The team is very warm and friendly. We always feel welcome. And the icing on the cake: dogs are also welcome!

The food is very okay, not over the top but good. I think it is fairly well attended. The service is by young people, not all of whom speak the language very well, so it was in somewhat poor English. But all friendly. Hopefully gas prices will go down because it's all single glazing there. Be sure to eat there sometime to judge for yourself.

It wasn't busy but everything went wrong. Had enough staff. Would be good if someone would take charge here. Food didn't arrive until after an hour and a half. Do yourself a favor and skip this one.

There bad . Staff is rude and took an awfully long time for the food and drinks to finally arrive. After asking a few times. When it finally came to the table (2 hours) it was cold, tasteless and a lot of fat and the fish was certainly not fresh. NEVER AGAIN

Such a prime location and in a beautiful old stately building, followed by a series of poor service and unprofessionalism. What a contrast! Fifteen minutes after we took our seats, someone came by to take our drinks. Fifteen minutes later the drinks are brought to the table and the food order is taken. An hour and a half later (2 hours after arrival!) still no dinner. After asking three times for information about our order, we ran out of patience. After a 'nice' discussion with the owner where he accused us of lying, wanted us to pay the entire bill (plus dinner that we did not eat) and was unable to offer any apology or any form of self-reflection, we left. This case is not worth its existence

After more than an hour and a half, still no food. Not recommended unfortunately. Operator very unprofessional, no excuses or words to that effect. Too bad for such a beautiful location. Didn't wait for the main course, so no opinion about the food.

Very tasty, good price-quality ratio

Never again for us, actually not worthy of a star. We chose the surprise dish and all we got was burnt, tasteless meat that had not yet been thrown on the plate. The meat tasted of nothing except the burgers and sausages but this was factory food from the freezer with an abundance of spices. The tzatziki only consisted of yogurt and cucumber, not what it should really taste like. We wanted to order a little extra Tzatziki, but had to pay 6.50 extra for this, which is not nice when you already pay 69 euros for a surprise dish for 2 people. All in all, we left everything behind and asked for the bill, the ATM was literally pushed under our noses, but because something went wrong with the drinks, we took a good look at the bill before payment and it turned out that it contained 60 euros more than we expected. had ordered, 3 dishes that we had not ordered but were on the receipt. Never again...

Meat was grilled too hard, no warming plate to keep meat warm, cold meat doesn't taste that good.

Overpriced, terrible service, the gyros portion was super small, we had to get cutlery ourselves, drinks only came after the meal, one meal was missing. Never again.
