Kowalski Comfort Store in Centrum

Bizarre but cute atmosphere. The matcha was gigantic. I thought it was a bit expensive when I saw it on the menu but that sure was worth the money.

Very cool café, calm atmosphere, and really stylish. The owner (I think the person who served us, at least) was really nice. She spoke to us in English and French. The place is really nice, the decor is neat and original. We had a great time there. Okay, the Chai Latte wasn't very good (was the tea missing?), but it's still a very beautiful place. You can sit in front of it, right on the canal; it's really great. I loved it!

The Doppio was delicious, but it's a shame, and very strange, that you don't get anything with it. Not a small cookie or chocolate or anything like that. I never experience that.

It was so “gezellig”! The Dutch apple pie is a must try… truly delicious!

Lovely. It is not the fastest place, or the most polished, and that's exactly what makes it so pleasant. This is the perfect place to unwind. Just enjoy the views, the amazing atmosphere, the music and the owner's dog that is probably chilling somewhere on the floor. Food and drinks are good, as well as reasonably priced. Don't rush, take your time, appreciate, live in the now.

The pearl of Alkmaar, we had a lovely sit here, had a few drinks and ate a delicious sandwich. Great service and a very nice owner. Highly recommended.

Comfort store is the right name for this place—especially if you’re comfort zone is somewhere between the 1970s and 1990s as the place is packed with music, lamps and Knick-knacks from that era. This place is almost more like having coffee at your aunt who was a punk in the 80s and now makes coffee. It’s incredibly different and original, barely feels like a store. This also means the coffee and cake show up when they do, if you’re in a rush this is not the place for you. But if you want a distinctly local, non-touristy, non-cheese themed cafe this is the place to go! We had the cheese sandwich (which was fine), the fresh apple pie (was great), a latte (which was better than it looks in the picture) and an OJ and a babycinno (can’t mess those up). We paid 24 euros tip included, which seemed fair and a great way to support a local! We also tried not to complain (as that comes in at 1.50)

Magnificent place! Great landlady, second hand things to buy in the cafe. The apple pie is the best I've ever tasted... great!!!

There you can get the very best coffee in Alkmaar. Homemade cake with delicious vegan coconut cream every day (that was a great discovery). Individual, interesting furnishings. Not a tourist hotspot, not a café chain or anything like that!

Simply, a no-nonsense tent! Would you like a sandwich? That's possible, the brie sandwich was made and it was delicious! There is no food menu, just what is there. Honest and delicious! And a super sweet dog, just as hospitable as her wife. Dog friendly!

The pecan pie is a solid 10 out of 10! The apple pie is also extremely delicious. Good atmosphere, very nice service. Stayed here for 3 days out of 4 days because it was so good. And there is a very sweet, reserved dog who makes the whole experience perfect.

Not your average restaurant. More of a combination of shop and restaurant, because many things hanging or standing there are not only decoration, but also for sale. You can have a great meal there and also with a group without strange guests. Casual atmosphere and, in our case, 2 pleasant hostesses.

A really great, cute place, you can endure it here. With seating by the water. The Aperol for over €8 is not cheap, but the view is fantastic.

The Kowalski is our insider tip in one of our favorite cities Alkmaar. Located in the middle of the lively alley “Fnidsen”, the K. is a haven of peace and relaxation. It invites you to enjoy all kinds of cakes and tip: pecan tart and also warm dishes in a wonderfully quirky atmosphere. We quickly got into conversation with the owner (in English), she is very warm and even conjures up handwritten fortune cookie messages to accompany the meal. In the café you can admire all sorts of quirky interiors and some of them can also be purchased. If the weather is good and you can eat your pecan tart directly on the canal, that's a highlight that you can enjoy for a long time to come.

Great drinks, great food, great vibes. I went there with a mutual friend of my life partners when we were visitng Alkmaar. The place is relaxed, very friendly, and welcoming. They even have an in-house German Shepherd that is decidely at home either sitting near the bar, the middle of the floor, or even out on the street that seems to be almost entirely devoid of cars. We spent at least 2 hours there, relaxing, talking and joking with the staff. If you are looking for a break from the craze of the cheese market, this should be an absolute place to consider. The espresso and beer were top notch, but the environment is what really sold me on this place.

The café is very cozy and invites you to linger. There is junk everywhere that you can buy. The warm apple pie was really very tasty and everything was delicious!!! Now comes BUT: In the women's toilet I was surprised by such an acrid smell of urine that I had to gag. This place is so dirty, I've never even experienced it in a train station toilet. The sink, it may be old, but the taps are dirty and haven't been cleaned for months/years. Simply disgusting!!! At first I couldn't get out of the locked, defective door. It can be OLD, but not smelly and dirty!! A no-go! No, the café is not recommended for hygiene reasons. Please, urgently change!

Very nice, small café with a cozy atmosphere. Nice service and the prices are good and justified. The home-baked cakes are particularly eye-catching. There are also lots of quaint little things that you can buy here. If you are in Alkmaar, this little café is a must.

Very friendly staff at the cafe and an interesting assortment of the store. Delicious salty latte with double espresso, tasty toast. :) However, you must remember that they do not accept visa cards because otherwise you have to find an ATM quickly, preferably when it's raining ;)

Fantastic cozy cafe. The fresh homemade appeltaart with ice cream is so good. Actually all of the food and desserts are delicious. Also they have unique products for sale as well. The atmosphere is relaxed and everyone that works there are really friendly.

Their prize-winning appeltaart was the best I've tasted, wonderful! The pie was still baking when we stopped in, so they saved us two pieces for our return after completing other shopping - so helpful and friendly!
