Haven't visited in too long, really must go more often. Lunch, service, atmosphere all excellent!

Very bad experience at Restaurant Barrage What a disappointment. We had to wait at least an hour for our food, and we also had to wait about an hour each time for the starter and the appetizer. The wait times were truly ridiculously long. Furthermore, the food was cold and not tasty. The waitresses kept forgetting what we asked for and were rude to boot. Despite the poor service, it seemed like a tip was expected. We paid for this experience while the food and service were a huge letdown. We certainly won't be coming back here. Definitely not recommended!

Waiting 2 hours for your main course. Then lukewarm beef brisket. Salmon sushi that wasn't flambéed; you had to imagine avocado. Wagyu that wasn't warm. Service very lax. And at the other table, the wait staff reports that there are problems with our table. It is discussed at length. When paying the bill, the standard question: is everything to your liking? NO, then you get an arrogant attitude.

Wow… we stumbled upon this place by chance while cycling. Super trendy with a beautiful terrace, conservatory, and indoor area. Plus, the food is really very good. We chose the lunch special, and as standard as that sounds, it wasn't! Everything was just right. We would love to come back here again 🤩

Yesterday, 13-9-2026, I experienced a fantastic event, the Big Smoke, an annual event for cigar enthusiasts. And there were plenty of them. Despite the crowds, the service remained alert, polite, and quick. A compliment also to the kitchen staff; the food was served well on time every time and was particularly flavorful. The wine list was magically beautiful and the sommelier's knowledge outstanding. All in all, an experience you don't (often) come across in the hospitality industry these days. If you can continue to perform so well under such pressure, then you understand how hospitality works. My compliments! And no, I am not a regular guest, and no, I don't supply the wines, and no, I don't have any shares in the business either. I simply enjoyed myself immensely. Regards, Elliott.

It is more about seeing and being seen. The starter was a wagyu carpaccio... only that wasn't wagyu beef, the main course (tenderloin) was boring and tasteless. Even after dessert, you were given the cold shoulder... you expect quality from this restaurant! I found the staff friendly, which makes this restaurant a positive point.

Round sofas are not suitable for sitting on for long periods.

I have been visiting La Barrage for several years now, but unfortunately, I have noticed that both the quality of the food and the service have clearly deteriorated recently. During our recent visit, the table was still dirty from the previous guests upon arrival. This was not cleaned. There was even bird droppings on the table, which were wiped away with a cloth without the table actually being properly cleaned afterwards. The water was also poured in a rather rough manner, causing it to slosh on the table. She literally held the bottle upside down. We were seated at a round table, but the dishes were served from behind and even over our shoulders, instead of walking neatly around the table. This came across as very uninterested and unprofessional. Additionally, we were very disappointed with the Angus burger. It looked unappealing and, unfortunately, did not taste good either. The lettuce looked old and wilted, and the spread under the lettuce bore little resemblance to a quality sauce. When we brought this to the attention of the staff, our complaint was unfortunately not taken seriously, and we were told that everything was fine. We found that disappointing. La Barrage is a beautiful location, but it is precisely the service and the quality of the food that should ensure you want to return. Unfortunately, that was absolutely not the case this time. The attitude of the employee in question came across as very uninterested and arrogant, and gave us the strong impression that she took little pleasure in doing her job.

I really wanted to have lunch here, but I wasn't allowed because I was wearing a sports shirt. I was quite surprised by that, especially for lunch.

The restaurant offers a lovely atmosphere, the food is delicious, and the staff impresses with their attentiveness. It's understandable that you might occasionally have to wait for your food, as it's freshly prepared. We look forward to returning soon.

A chic restaurant with reasonable prices, except for the water, which is outrageously expensive in this heat. €7.50 for a bottle of water. They say wine is an extra guest at a meal. Here, it's water, and tap water is out of the question. A shame, it spoils the restaurant experience!

You have to walk in the back for the service, Aperol was fine..food value for money...... a hugely overrated place. White fish was too dry, only the brisket was edible thanks to the peppercorn sauce. I know what ribeye and bavette can taste like. I am certain that the meat they use is of a quality that does not meet expectations. I was not asked how I would like the meat prepared. My answer certainly would not have been tough, raw, and tasteless. That cook surely doesn't taste his own food. The fat on the ribeye was raw. I would never go here again. Fish to share between 2 people? 1 scallop... share??. 160 euros for a main course of which little to nothing was worth eating.

Hospitality is nowhere to be found. The hostess is not approachable or friendly at all. The cocktails were well mixed. On second thought, we decided to stay for dinner after all, and that was possible even though we hadn't made a reservation. The price-quality ratio of the food was disproportionate. We chose the "Nice to Meat" platter and the fish platter variant. It is listed at 40 euros p.p. You ordered for a minimum of two. That's 80 euros more. The meat was substandard. And there was far too little fish for two. You don't get value for your money. They miss the mark. A shame for such a beautiful location.

The food was delicious, that's for sure. But I think there was huge tension among the staff or something. What a tense atmosphere and unfriendly people. They were also completely inattentive, and it wasn't even that busy. One man two tables away had been waving at an employee for 20 minutes, but none of them looked at him. Not a smile could be seen. I really wonder why I actually gave a tip. It is a very nice place. But I don't know if I will come back here again.

We ate here with seven people after a lovely day of boating. Unfortunately, the food was very disappointing: tasteless and some dishes were poorly prepared. When we mentioned this, the waitress reacted mostly defensively and got into an argument. Given the name and reputation, you would expect more. It seems that fame has now outweighed quality. Very disappointing and not worth repeating.

Nice, chic appearance. Chic prices too. A glass of rosé €9.00. For a carpaccio, €17.50 was reasonable, I thought, but it was a very small plate. The taste was good, but nothing special.

We celebrated our daughter's 16th birthday yesterday. They even arranged balloons at the last minute. It was great fun! Lovely team, thank you so much for the wonderful evening.

We arrived at this restaurant at exactly 3:00 PM to enjoy the view of the water with a cup of coffee... however, the plan fell through because, after the somewhat cool welcome... (yes, just coffee...) we were not allowed to sit by the water. The reason given was that they were already setting the table for dinner. At 3:00 PM. There were at least 3 tables free by the water. Not a single one was available to have a cup of coffee. That is how you should treat your customers... I think to myself. Then they will stay away on their own. We did indeed leave. We went to the other side. There, we *did* sit by the water with a delicious cup of coffee. What the restaurant needs to learn: to be hospitable, even when someone comes 'just for coffee'. The friendliness wasn't exactly radiating either... I recognized it from another post here as well; a tad haughty. A shame!

Today we enjoyed lunch on this place's fantastic terrace. The service was good, but the tuna tataki salad was a bit disappointing. According to the menu, coriander was supposed to be in the salad, but I didn't taste it. There was also no dressing on it, or so little that you couldn't taste it. There was someone else in our group who had this salad and they missed the coriander as well. The rest of our group was satisfied with the dishes they ordered.

Drove past this afternoon to grab a quick drink. Upon entering, we were welcomed in a truly unfriendly manner. We went there with the idea that you can sit nicely by the water. Upon entering, a rather haughty hello was said and we were asked what we were there for; we were just there for a drink. She led us to our seats. We were seated around a corner near the trash containers; it felt a bit like a dump station. As soon as a container opened, the smell was overwhelming. The waitress came to the table, didn't say good afternoon or anything, and just said "what can I pour?" with a subtle undertone... We ended up with two teas, €4.50 each, the size of a coffee cup... It's a good thing my husband wanted something to drink after all, otherwise I would have gotten up and driven to the next place... In between, two waiters did pass by who were able to say a friendly hello. When settling the bill, however, they were a pleasant person! I have extensive experience as a waitress/cook myself; with me, the guest must feel welcome, but we really didn't feel that at all! Even though we only came for a drink… Le Barrage is a beautiful place, nice terrace, but next time we’ll drive on…

There were a lot of empty seats, but they sat us in the sun where it smelled of waste, and we left.

They simply told us that all the tables were occupied, although they were all free, and they simply sat us next to the garbage dump.

Had a lovely drink on the terrace and then sailed towards Kinderdijk in the sloop. Enjoyed the generously filled picnic basket while sipping on a delicious non-alcoholic prosecco. Afterwards, had another pleasant drink on the terrace. Highly recommended.

The hostess at the door was so rude. Was very arrogant and rude telling us that there was no space in the restaurant for us. Over half of it was empty. I went online to check for reservation spaces and there was literally open spots every 15 minutes all night in both the terrace and restaurant! It’s awful to lie like that, gives such a bad reputation. I booked one and came back telling her I had a reservation and she finally let us in but gave us a seat in the corner when there was plenty around. She was very snobby and had zero customer service skills. The food was mediocre and plate presentation was bad. Defo overpriced.

Terrible place. Bad reception. Awful service. 200 grams of tenderloin that was estimated to weigh 100 grams. A tiny bit of vegetables on the side that was inedible. The response to the comment that I still hadn't received my fries was: "That's a shame." Eventually I got them... Reheated, greasy and disgusting, inedible. Sent it back but wasn't offered anything else, nor any apology from the red/purple monstrosity who acted as a bit of a manager there. Never again 🤮

Upon entering this culinary cathedral, we were immediately confronted with the rigorous protocol of the hat ban; my humble cap was received with regal contempt. The ambiance exudes a forced exclusivity that one associates more with a solid hotel than with a place where one wishes to savor food without a care in the world. Everything is geared towards seeing and being seen; the guests here seem to be sitting in an exaggerated theatrical performance rather than enjoying each other or the food. Fortunately, the food, on the other hand, was actually quite okay, and we must certainly sing the praises of that one dedicated waiter who did keep his cool and did his utmost to make us feel comfortable. All in all, the gastronomic highlights and the dedicated staff could not remove the bitter aftertaste of vanity in this restaurant, especially given the exorbitant bill that was disproportionate to the quality offered.

It is a shame that messages are posted on social media daily, but guests' questions remain unanswered. In my opinion, good communication is also part of hospitality. You can tell they are targeting a specific "clientele".

Sitting outside is recommended in good weather. However, the overall experience felt a bit lackluster to us. Upon entering, the atmosphere unfortunately felt a tad haughty. For instance, we were told quite strictly that coats were absolutely not allowed inside and could not be hung over the chairs. Although we understand that an establishment wants to maintain a certain neat appearance, this approach did not feel truly welcoming or flexible. When an establishment presents itself as so "exclusive," you expect that same 'wow factor' to be reflected on the plate. The food was fine, but nothing more, and lacked just that little bit of extra creativity or refinement. In short, a beautiful location with a lot of potential, but if the service becomes a bit warmer and the food rises to a slightly higher level, the whole picture will be complete!

Le Barrage is a really beautiful place! Very nicely decorated and very neat. The food there is very good and there is a lot of choice. In general, the staff is friendly and polite. I have been there several times and will certainly be found here and there again.

The food was actually quite tasty and the atmosphere was pleasant. Although the service was friendly, I am convinced that half the kitchen staff were asleep and the other half were cooking with their fingers in their noses. We had ordered a 4-course menu. The first dish arrived quite quickly. Next, we waited 50 minutes for a portion of fish risotto that didn't look worthy of 50 minutes. Fortunately, the staff were kind enough to wake the kitchen up and get them to take their fingers out of their noses. But we still waited an incredibly long time. So long that I eventually fell asleep too and started eating out of my nose. The food itself was tasty, but I won't be coming on busy days.

Atmospheric restaurant, beautifully decorated and a lovely terrace. The staff was very friendly and professional. We had a delicious dinner with friends; two of us had a set menu and the other two chose à la carte. For dessert, we had the cheese platter and were allowed to walk through the kitchen to the cheese trolley. That was really great to see. We enjoyed a wonderful evening!

Good atmosphere and service. The food was simply delicious. The portion was good for me, but I know I am a light eater, so it will be too little for many people.

We chose sushi, nigiri, kibbeling, and beef chili, and they were all delicious. For dessert, we opted for the coffee mousse (I think it was called Esma), which I tried for the first time and liked. The atmosphere was generally pleasant, and it has a beautiful garden. I want to go again when the weather is better. It would be a good choice for lunch or dinner.

We ate here tonight with my girlfriend and son. Together with my son, we ordered the Tomahawk steak. €100 for 1,000 grams of meat. Expectations were high but were not met. Very tough meat; including the enormous "included" bone, perhaps 600 grams, full of sinew and fat. It was nice, though, that two saws of Laguiole were provided. We made a comment about this to the waiter, who served us excellently otherwise. They subsequently gave us a 20% discount on the meat. All in all, we paid €202 for a bit of papa neerga beforehand, three small starters, a plate of asparagus with half a salmon fillet, the "Tomahawk," two bottles of Pellegrino water, and two cups of coffee.

Had a very nice and fun experience. Yes, it is a bit more expensive, but the overall experience and quality of the food (the oysters and sushi are truly amazing) make up for it. Super good atmosphere and amazing staff.

As a tourist, i always look for the best places to eat and experience culture. This ones really worth it! Im extremely pleased by the flavorful food and the top notch service! My boyfriends family got us a boat tour here with food and the sushi was just amazing! The service also stood out as the staff really looked after us! they were very polite and accommodating! Nice atmosphere and friendly service, but unfortunately, the lobster roll was a major disappointment. For €26, you expect quality, but the taste didn't resemble lobster at all. A shame, because the rest was good. We would not recommend this dish at this moment.

We had a Valentine's Day dinner, which was lovely with delicious food and a singer mingling with the tables. The atmosphere was lovely and warm, and the service was super friendly and customer-focused.

Barrage is beautifully situated in the center of Alblasserdam, near the shipyard of a large shipbuilder and a short distance from Kinderdijk. The restaurant is housed in a stunning building with a warm, characterful atmosphere. Upon entering, you receive an almost royal welcome from a very hospitable hostess. The subtle aroma of charcoal wafts through, immediately setting the tone for an atmospheric lunch or dinner. The interior is stylish, warm, and well-maintained. Despite the restaurant being only five or six years old, everything still looks brand new – truly spotless. The service is very friendly, professional, and clearly well-trained. It's also a great place for families: the restaurant is child-friendly and a children's menu is available (upon request). The atmosphere is chic, but not at all stuffy or overly formal – perfectly balanced. The menu is a surprising mix of fusion and Japanese influences. Original, creative, and of a high standard. Truly a place to discover new flavors. In short: a top-notch place. We will definitely be back.

We've eaten here several times and it's incredibly delicious, not too much, not too little, and the wines are good. We had sushi again tonight, so incredibly good, truly delicious.

Went to Le Barrage today for the fourth time now. Special Sunday with Romy Monteiro, what a fantastic place! And what a concept, with singing and dancing, and staff who get it (Tom behind the bar with his buddy, especially who I'm referring to, as well as a female colleague who saw me drinking bubbles from a wine glass instead of a flute and was completely lost, haha, so she knows who I mean). All three are valuable people, and finally, people who understand how to help others in a restaurant, instead of just staccatoly doing what the boss wants. Had a fantastic experience!! Definitely not the last time and absolutely recommended!

Made a reservation for two on Saturday evening. We were given a table where the staff constantly walked past to the kitchen and to the guests, including the guests being escorted to their tables. I ordered Wagyu as a starter, which has always been delicious in the past, but this time it was cold. I ordered a nice to-go sauce, and asked for rosé, which was served red/raw! They opened the 2016 Barolo and poured it straight from the bottle; in the past, it was served in a carafe! I'll skip this restaurant for now.

We had a wonderful evening with exceptional dishes and wines. The entire staff is enthusiastic, genuinely interested, and will help you choose delicious dishes. It's a relief to receive the time and attention you need in the hospitality industry. Highly recommended for a visit.

What a lovely place, the food and service are sometimes mediocre at best. It's a shame the staff tries to find the easiest way and makes things easy for themselves.

The Christmas menu box has just been delivered. I would like to express my displeasure with the portioning of the candy bar and the stew, which is supposed to be enough for two people. Besides the fact that it's completely unclear that only one candy bar is delivered for two people, I find it extremely annoying and inhospitable that, when I ask if I can order an extra portion that I'll have to pick up myself, there's no way to arrange this. You're still working on the boxes that will be delivered tomorrow. Very inhospitable, and I'm extremely disappointed with both the contents of the box and the service, and all that for 300 euros. Although my date was unfortunately incredibly arrogant and rude, they helped me defuse the situation in a very professional and subtle way. A truly team that knows how to handle any situation. Last week we went to restaurant Le Barrage in Alblasserdam with friends. Because we arrived after 9:30 PM, we only ordered wine. Then we ordered two cheesecakes for a friend's birthday. We also asked for candles. The waiter replied, "Since you only ordered cheesecake, we can't bring candles. Our manager told us so." This isn't the first time we've been to this restaurant. We live in Alblasserdam and have celebrated many birthdays with drinks. We've never been treated like this before. I wonder how long this restaurant has been so expensive. Towards the end of the evening, a mouse ran around the tables. Another friend had already noticed it a month and a half ago. So they don't seem to be able to find a solution. We understand that this isn't a customer-focused restaurant.

Excellent atmosphere and extremely friendly staff. We had a wonderful day, including a boat trip. It's a shame the boat broke down and the steak tartare at dinner was a bit tough. But otherwise, we had a wonderful day. Definitely worth repeating.

I ate here for my birthday. It wasn't busy: five tables occupied, three of which were still enjoying a late meal. The starter arrived fairly quickly. Then we had to wait an hour and a half for the main course. The waitress spent the entire evening chatting cheerfully at a table. The fries were lukewarm, and the pasta seemed reheated. Disappointing.

Great place, but the Caesar salad with chicken thigh was way below par. The lettuce hadn't been washed, and the chicken thigh was coated in a thick layer of breading (from a bag) so that it was barely recognizable as chicken. Too simple, too easy for €17.00. It was generous that I paid less, but I would have preferred a more enjoyable meal.

No nonsense, just action, which clearly demonstrates the staff's well-trained approach. Purpose: We wanted a drink and a snack on Saturday before dinner started. No problem, two seats at the bar. Bar: polite, knowledgeable staff with attentive service. A bock beer and a nice Nolet gin and tonic. Charming and carefully prepared. Food: a snack of vegan gyoza. Beautifully served, perhaps a bit hotter would have been better, although (when writing the review) I thought "too hot" might have compromised the taste. 60-70 degrees Celsius to be served appropriately for consumption. It was a delight. Voucher: €33 for two beers, gin & tonic, and gyoza. The atmosphere, service, and quality are absolutely in balance. Conclusion: Le Barrage gives its customers good reasons to come back. So see you soon😀 And here we are again: Sunday, after a beautiful walk along Kinderdijk, it's time to unwind. Weizen, wine, and a bitterbal. Once again, superb service, bitterballen (hot and flavorful), but we have to move on!

The food was excellent, but we waited an hour and a half for our main course because it was "very busy." A real shame for a lovely restaurant like this. The service was very friendly, but I expect that if I make a reservation and it suddenly becomes very busy, they'll let me know in advance.

We had a very unpleasant experience at Le Barrage in Alblasserdam. We were three gentlemen from outside the Netherlands, dressed formally and frequenting the restaurant. This time, we weren't allowed onto the terrace for drinks through the regular entrance, but had to enter through the kitchen, using the so-called "tourist entrance." This is anything but class and comfort for a guest. It's a real shame that you're still treated this way in 2025. We got up immediately!

A cosy little restaurant we discovered on our way from Kinderdijk to Amsterdam. What makes it unique is how people arrive by boat, stopping halfway just to enjoy lunch. This is the must go to restaurant if you ever come to Kinderkirij for a day. A lovely restaurant with a view of the river, with boats parked at the side of the restaurants.

The welcome was lukewarm. The ladies' wine arrived quickly, but we had to wait a long time for the men's drinks. The portions were not in proportion to the price. The tenderloin was barely seasoned and not warm. The rest of the food was good, and the dessert was excellent. If you're out of here within two hours after three courses for €75 per person, it doesn't meet expectations. We wouldn't recommend it.

We didn't even get to eat. I understand they have every right to do so, but I personally find it ridiculous that I was turned away somewhere today because I was wearing shorts that were too ordinary. We were cycling along Kinderdijk, so we're not the kind of people they want there. Such a shame.

We're from The Hague and wanted to try a different kind of meal. We ended up at Le Barrage, and what a pleasant surprise! The restaurant looks beautiful, and the terrace is nicely laid out and partially covered. We chose the chef's four-course menu with a wine pairing. The sommelier is very knowledgeable about wines and can talk enthusiastically about the wines, the houses, and the regions. We're only used to this at really expensive restaurants, and this restaurant certainly isn't expensive. You can choose your own cheeses for dessert from the wine/cheese vault (it's in a former bank building). The cheeses were paired with no fewer than three dessert wines. In short, a very pleasant experience and definitely recommended.

Good restaurant with an excellent menu, the price-quality ratio is very good, friendly and fast service and a beautiful location, also the possibility to eat outside

We were warmly welcomed and escorted to our table. The service was excellent, and drinks arrived promptly. We opted for the 5-course menu, which was superb; every course was delicious. Rutger, the sommelier, and I chose three pairing wines, and they were also excellent. When we asked if we could slow down the pace of the service, they said no problem! The restaurant, both inside and on the terrace, is beautifully decorated. All in all, we had a wonderful experience, and we will definitely be back!
