Christmas dinner at MataMata. We've eaten here many times before, and this time it was Christmas. What a wonderful surprise! Super delicious food and friendly service.

Het eten was heerlijk totdat ons gerecht op tafel werd gebracht, de Geroosterde Paprika met Knoflook. Het gerecht was voor meer dan de helft verkoold. Ik stuurde het terug. En toen kwam het: de eigenaresse stelde dat dit de normale wijze is voor karamelliseren. Toen ik stelde dat verkoold eten kankerverwekkend is, stelde ze voor "to agree to disagree". Het geheel eindigde dat mevrouw ons de rekening gaf en wij het restaurant verlieten. Ik ben nog nooit zo ongastvrij en onprofessioneel behandeld. Een kok kan fouten maken. Geef je fouten gewoon toe! Maar dat kan dit bedrijf niet.

"Charred bell peppers; this is our normal caramelization method." Charred food is carcinogenic and can cause stomach cancer, among other things! The food was delicious until our dish, Roasted Bell Peppers with Garlic, arrived. It was more than half charred. I sent it back. And then it happened: the owner stated that this is the normal caramelization method. When I pointed out that charred food is carcinogenic, she suggested "agreeing to disagree." The whole thing ended with the lady giving us the bill and us leaving the restaurant. I have never been treated so inhospitably and unprofessionally. A chef can make mistakes. Just admit your mistakes! But this restaurant can't.

We stumbled upon this place by chance, drawn by the delicious aroma. A real treat: delicious pinchos and a lovely, long meal. But the real highlight of the evening was the ribs. Delicious Iberico ribs, perfectly prepared. Enjoyed it!

Everything was just great. The staff was very attentive and the food delicious. Both, red and white whine were very good. I will come back.

What a lovely restaurant in Harderwijk! We were practically forced to try something from the menu, and in the end, we were absolutely right! We only ordered some appetizers and a glass of wine, but that was really not enough! It was sooooo delicious! As soon as you walk in, you can practically smell it... simply fantastic! A charming Spanish Mediterranean atmosphere and a super friendly and enthusiastic lady who served us. We are fans and will definitely go back for a full dinner.

Cozy restaurant with very tasty dishes!

The food was delicious. What's a Gildehoen? One waitress kept saying it was her first day (I wouldn't do that). She didn't know what the filling in the croquettes was, but: yesterday they had mushrooms in them, so probably today's too. Not smart; make sure you know what's in them at the start of your shift. Communication between the two waitresses wasn't great either: they were chasing each other to take orders. The food was delicious, so nothing but praise for it.

Here they cook with a lot of love and passion and you can taste that. The service is incredibly friendly and enthusiastic. We would love to come back here.

Last night we reserved a table for 6 people. It was really fantastic. On the advice of the chef we had chosen a menu composed by him. Among these people we also had an Argentinean son-in-law, who knows the Spanish culture very well. He also enjoyed it immensely. The staff is top in terms of service. We will be back soon.

It was a very pleasant evening with many delicious dishes. All the ingredients were excellently prepared, giving us a Spanish/Basque evening. This is exactly the atmosphere and restaurant experience you can expect when you go out for a nice meal. Delicious and high-quality dishes like you can't make at home. The service was exceptionally friendly. I hope I remembered your name correctly, Susan, it was as if we were guests in your own home. The menu is somewhat limited (especially for vegetarians) but what is on it is really tasty. We enjoyed it!

Very tasty meal. Asked if the chef wanted to put together a menu for us with different starters and main courses (forgot to take pictures of everything...). O.a. had the sirloin steak and the pork belly. Not comparable to the standard "all you can eat" tapas! Price per person is a bit more expensive anyway, but in this case also because we had a number of special wines (which the chef insisted on telling us about at our table, nice). Definitely worth it.

A real Spanish restaurant, a bit over priced for what you get and a rather odd shared menu set up that needed the staff to help us navigate it. But - high end food, and very tatsy. Not sure its a Gastro Bar though as they only had two beers available and none on tap - so they need to decide if they are going to specialize in nice beers, this was one of the reasons we wanted to go there and the lack of beer choice was a bit dissappointing. However so often in the Netherlands you see Spanish (and Itailian) places that are not run by Spanish (or Italians), this leaves you feeling a little cheated - nice to eat in a real Spanish place for a change.

September 2024: because we had such a good time last time, we went here again. We were well served by a very nice on-call worker. We received a nice autumn drink upon arrival. As starters we had the sardines, the portobello and the pork belly. Beautifully prepared and nicely served. Tip: the sardines had to be called in a certain order, this was neatly explained, but then also place the plate so that it is in front of you in that order. Now the sign was upside down. As a main course we had the sirloin steak, the daily fish catch and the rump steak. Meat and fish well prepared. One sirloin steak had a hard chewy edge which was a shame. Side dishes were the salad and papata bravas. Tasty salad but the fries were too salty. Delicious red wine (casa albali) but for the price a little more could be in the glass. Small and cozy restaurant with delicious food. July 2024, walked in on a Friday evening. Actually they were full, but if 6-7:30 PM wasn't a problem, we could still sit down. Friendly service that provided good advice; sharing starters and main courses. We started with an appetizer of cod, then a starter (fusion tacos) and as a main course the sirloin steak with the green salad and papata bravas. All delicious and the sirloin steak was even excellent. Beer is home brewed. Nice beer. Nice, friendly service and a nice, small, cozy restaurant. We will definitely come back when we are in the area again.

Prima Spaanse keuken, mooie gerechten en een leuke sfeer. Als je een keer echt de keuken van Spanje wilt proeven en weg wilt van de vele commerciële tapas restaurants, dan is dit the place to be! Overigens moet je, net als in het echte Spanje, geen haast hebben en soms even wachten, maar dat doet geen afbreuk aan de beleving.

Wat een heerlijk eten! Bijzondere Spaanse gerechten, de kok maakt er een feestje van samen met de geweldige bediening. Super vriendelijk en gezellig.

Great meal. Tasteful. Portobello starter delicious with cheese and tasty sauce. The fish of the day was very well prepared (good flavor, boneless and not dry). Crispy patatas bravas. Wine and beer were fine. Spanish-Basque but not too spicy. Service very friendly. Would love to come back again.

Good food but terrible service. Waiting half an hour for a second glass of wine should be unacceptable. My complaint was not appreciated. “Just pay and go!” I went and won't come back.

A very nice evening with tasty dishes! This is what our evening looked like two weeks ago. We were welcomed by a very friendly hostess. With some help, we put together a delicious dinner, consisting of several side dishes. The atmosphere was very pleasant in the restaurant, the waiters were willing to help you and the attention they put into the dishes was clearly noticeable. We would definitely return to Harderwijk before Matamata dies.

The Spanish-inspired bistro impressed us with its culinary delights. The food was of excellent quality, lovingly prepared and offered authentic taste. Unfortunately, the service couldn't quite keep up with the quality of the food - it took a little longer before we could order the food, even though it wasn't busy yet. There were also people sitting outside who came in after a long time and asked whether they could order or whether they had been forgotten. We also found the prices extremely high, as we were already around €90 for 4 tapas and a main course (which is as small as a tapas). Unfortunately there is still a point deducted when it comes to the cleanliness of the plates. I think it's nice when a table is set, but you still have to make sure that the dishes are clean. The plates were extremely dusty and we first had to dust them off with the napkin. Maybe it's also because we had the table directly under the ventilation/air conditioning system. Still a no-go. If I hadn't noticed, we would have eaten dust with us. Overall, a good place for delicious food if you can overlook minor weaknesses and want to dig a little deeper into your pockets.

Food is really tasty but service is meh. We are a vegetarian and indicated this in advance. Message that it is not a problem, but nothing has actually been arranged. Forgot a starter, forgot red wine... Food is really tasty (as a carnivore) but the combination of kitchen and service needs some attention.

The restaurant is neat, clean and cozy. The food is OK. The sirloin steak was tasty. The rest was somewhat ordinary. The service is friendly, but extremely slow. There were 6 tables occupied and 2 waiters. Yet at one point we had to wait more than half an hour before we could order dessert. The cheesecake was boiling hot and my wife burned her tongue. It wasn't a cheesecake either, but rather a crème brulee with an edible crust. We wanted a Spanish coffee afterwards, but we got it somewhere else, because after waiting another half hour, we were done with it.

If you want quality food, this is the place to be. The chef cooks delicious dishes from Spain with great passion. Recommended if you like good meat. The service is friendly. The restaurant is cozy. Highly recommended. For the real holiday feeling.

This is just Michelin star quality food. Huge flavors, superbly put together, kamado stealing the show. Pulpo was especially amazing!

My husband and I had just gotten away for a night. We went to Harderwijk, we had never been there before and it is a Hanseatic town, so that is generally fine! Of course we started the day with a city walk (without guide) so that you get some nice information and immediately get an idea of ​​the city. The city walk itself was a bit disappointing, but with all the monument signs and the sculpture route that we discovered by chance, it was just right. While my husband is looking for the route, I walk around looking at the beautiful facades. My eye falls on a sign on the facade 'Spanish/Basque cuisine' (or something in that trend), our interest is immediately aroused! So far we had seen some nice places, but they were all a bit ordinary. Diamond tenderloin, burger, carpaccio...that kind of thing. Nothing wrong with that, but for us gourmands we were hoping for something different. We decided to go for it and immediately made an online reservation on the spot. Fingers crossed that we made the right choice! Our reservation was approaching and we set off with great anticipation. From the moment we stepped in we were impressed. A wonderfully authentic feeling. The old building is visible, but the use of color and wooden furniture is exactly what we hoped for, not too many trendy decorations but a nice environment where the attention can be focused on the food. The hostess and host made us immediately feel very welcome. Professional but with a homely charm. And then the menu... everything seemed delicious to us, so we had a lot of stress about choosing! Fortunately, we were given plenty of time and were told that it was also possible to just start with a few snacks, do that again and again and that we could always share a main course! Look! How wonderful that we are given options that give us all the time to enjoy, without being rushed through for the next table, where the clock does not matter. That's where we got our first round. For starters, it looked beautiful and smelled divine! And luckily we could also taste what we saw and smelled! Not afraid of strong flavors, pure ingredients beautifully balanced, which only made us look forward to the next delicacy even more! One was even better than the other and at the same time all equally delicious, as my grandmother would say, "as if an angel was peeing on your tongue". During the evening we had pleasant chats with the hostess and host without losing sight of the other guests and everyone received full attention. People who actually enjoy what they do! Unfortunately, there turned out to be a disadvantage...we were full. We just couldn't take it anymore even though we still wanted to taste so much! There is only one thing to do, we have to go back. It's been a long time since the overall picture was such a fantastic party! Big thanks to the entire team!

Had we not eaten dinner on our little boat, we would have probably enjoyed MataMata GastroBar immensely. Instead, we paid a visit after dinner and sat down for one of their hand-crafted draft beers. Unfortunately, the pumping mechanism was broken, so we departed foodless, beerless, and heartbroken … but not before enjoying the wonderful cozy and quiet ambiance and admiring the Basque-influenced menu. The waitress on duty was charming and gave us a good description of the restaurant and cooking influences of the master chef. Per Cherry Wonderdog, this would be a great spot for dinner, drinks, and a romantic evening.

On holiday from Belgium for 3 days in Harderwijk, we booked a table here on a tip from our B&B owners. From the welcome, the service to the delicious food on our plates. We enjoyed it so much that we immediately booked a table for the next day and were surprised for the second time by the hospitality and the super delicious pure cuisine!!!

Chef Victor having an explanation of what he has in his own restaurant, explaining the difference between the food from the Basque Country and Southern Spain, whilst knowing the history behind the beer is quite amazing, but the food was a very good surprise, flavors from simplicity. We just lack some special coffees from Spain.

Heerlijk gegeten. We zaten als enige tafel met z'n 3en in de zaak. De service was goed. Serveerster stelde haar service goed af op wat wij 'nodig hadden'. Het eten was ook top. De iberische varkenswang was boterzacht en de vis erg goed gegaard. Lekkere passende wijn erbij gedronken. Zeker voor herhaling vatbaar!

This is such a cosy restaurant, a really nice experience. The waiters are genuinly friendly. The food is pure and there's a lot to choose from. The only thing I would change is the variety of white wines. The two of us tried all three of the wines and two of them are similar. Dog's allowed.
