Melis Ambachtelijke Friet in Wijk 12 Westkapelle

I had a large order of fries on September 11th, plain. They were actually quite tasty, but completely salt-free. Melis's quality has declined somewhat. It's a shame. It seems to be all about mass production now. I've since discovered better chip shops in Zeeland.

Very friendly, great portions and delicious food 😋 I always love coming here. Meli's fish stall is right across the street; that's where I had my first kibbeling (battered and fried fish pieces), also delicious 😋 and then I had ice cream at Meli's for dessert 😋

It was absolutely delicious. We tried everything, as is only right. My personal favorite was the fried noodles – nicely spicy. Unfortunately, the atmosphere was a bit run-down. But definitely worth a visit.

A typical snack bar with everything a deep-fried food lover could want. Seating is available, though it's always a bit grubby. Luckily, there are fish sandwiches across the street 🐟. My new go-to spot for goulash croquettes after my usual snack bar stopped serving them.

We've eaten here a few times and always had delicious fries and a variety of snacks. The prices are really low compared to some German fast-food places. You can sit down and the food is usually ready quickly. The staff are very well prepared for large numbers of customers. We'll definitely be back on our next vacation!

Very good fries with a sea view.

Very tasty (fries, beef croquettes and ice cream 🤤), excellently organized and child-friendly 😎👏🏻 You have to wipe the tables yourself if the person before you has left a mess 🙄 A cloth is provided when you return the tablets.

We ate here with the family prior to the solar eclipse. We saw on YouTube that the Mexicano sandwich was highly recommended, and that was true. The fries were also delicious. Despite the long line, we received our food quickly.

The price was okay. We found the fries too thin and the taste just okay. They were simply salted, so there was no special fry seasoning. We've definitely had better – but as they say, it's a matter of taste. The same goes for thick or thin fries. The fish, however, was absolutely delicious.

They claim you are lying because they packed the order themselves, even though you simply point out that you are missing a snack for the second day in a row. Just come back with the bag, while everyone else has already eaten. We heard afterwards that several people have had this experience but often don't go back because it is busy. 3. Atmosphere? What atmosphere? There is a little outdoor hut where you can barely sit.

Delicious fries and fast service. They have everything you could want that's fried. Everything is freshly prepared and reasonably priced. The portions are also very generous. I'll definitely be back. Combined with the fish from across the street, it's a meal that even families can afford and that will leave you feeling full.

The fries and snacks were very tasty and ready quickly. I liked the satay sauce a bit less because it is quite sweet, but that is a matter of personal preference. The dining area is very massive and geared towards tourism; you sit along the street, which detracts from the atmosphere somewhat.

Simply put, the best fries in Zeeland. You are served quickly, partly due to the efficient ordering system. During peak season it can take a bit longer, but the quality certainly does not suffer. Top-notch chip shop!!!

It has always been a good snack bar, but today was really disappointing. You know you have to wait a long time, but getting a serving of fries that is partly cooked and partly raw was really disappointing, and that is why I would not recommend it.

For years now, we've stopped by Melis's every time we visit Westkapelle to get snacks. Even when it's busy, the service is always quite quick. The location is great, the prices and food quality are excellent, and the staff is very friendly. (July 2026)

Hard fries and the worst burger I've ever eaten. The patty looks like the cheapest supermarket kind and is barely topped. The prices are exorbitant for what you get.

Whenever we're in Zealand, a visit here is a must. The food is always delicious. But the best thing about this place is the staff. Every time we're here, we receive such friendly and courteous service 👍👍👍👍, simply fantastic. Thank you for the delicious food and the friendly service. We'll definitely be back next year. We can honestly recommend this food stall 100%.

For Super Fries, we drive 400 kilometers every year for 800 if you include the return trip.

The kibbeling was absolutely delicious, and we relaxed in the outdoor area under bright sunshine.

The hype surrounding this chip shop is unfortunately incomprehensible! The fries were reheated and hard. We went there because of the good reviews and were disappointed! Not recommended!

Delicious fries! Super clean place. No long queues. Plenty of covered and uncovered seating available.

The selection is quite good. The hot fish dishes are thickly coated in breading and particularly greasy. The batter was also very dark when fried. The fish itself, however, was still juicy. We've been coming here several times during our holidays for a number of years now – unfortunately, the pavilion has become increasingly squalid. The floor is greasy, the benches and tables are sticky, and the number of belching and farting patrons (adults!), who actually find it funny, is on the rise. This year, we were quite disappointed with our visits. I think it really needs a thorough pressure washing and a good sprucing up of the pavilion, and the tables need to be cleaned regularly.

I've rarely had such bad fries. The 'berehap' wasn't good either, but the frikandel and spring roll were good.

The fries were so rock hard that you couldn't pick them up with a wooden skewer. My fingers were sticky because I had to eat the fries and peanut sauce with my hands. We won't be back.

Not recommended, more than half of the fries at the bottom had been in the oil multiple times, reported it and showed it at the counter, and we both threw the fries away.

We had a soft serve ice cream; it was really tasty, a delicious hard cookie. The ice could have been a bit firmer, though; it leaked a lot and that wasn't nice for the children.

The best fries around, made fresh on-site from potatoes. No long wait times and friendly staff.

They have the best fries and frikandels in the region! Ordering is easy and the food arrives quickly. You have to sit outside under a covered area by the road that runs through Westkapelle. If you know this beforehand, it's not a problem. Otherwise, you can take a few steps directly up to the dam and see the sea. We've been coming here every year for over 20 years. Highly recommended.

It's absolutely incomprehensible how anyone could give this place 4 stars—we were served cold, reheated, completely over-fried fries that were more reminiscent of fried wood chips in texture and taste. More than 1 star is completely overkill.

We visited Melis for the first time this year, driving 33 km from our home to Westcapelle (but also taking a 2 km walk along the beach, of course). It was once again delicious and plentiful. 1x Friet Moeilijk (Specialty + Satay), 1x Friet met Stoofvlees, €11.50. I had forgotten to order mayonnaise, and even got it for free. Friendly staff, very tasty and plentiful, including the Stoofvlees. Always a recommendation – other frituurs could learn a thing or two from their work, even if Melis doesn't have the great atmosphere of other places. But I'm going there for a snack, not a restaurant. 👋🥰

The food is fine, but the black-haired employee behind the counter still has a lot to learn about customer service. The order was taken incorrectly, and she made the wrong order, and we, as customers, were blamed for it even though we hadn't ordered it. Such a shame.

We came here 30 years ago on vacation. The fact that we're coming back speaks volumes, right?

A cult must-visit during your vacation

The fries? Golden brown, crispy, as if personally blessed by the potato gods. The atmosphere? Lovely, rural, with the aroma of happiness and grease. But then… the curry on the special fries. Sweet. Too sweet. Not Hela, but a curry that probably used to be on the children's menu.

It's as if Nehalennia has shed her tears in the frying fat. Each chip tastes like a gold bar plucked from the cloaca of a golden chicken. And what lactose-rich milkshakes! Delicious.

The place is buzzing, and it wouldn't be if the quality were poor. Delicious, typically Dutch snacks. Despite the crowds, the wait time is okay. If you want, you can order and pay via the display, similar to popular burger chains. You'll then receive a receipt with a number, and an electronic display tells you when it's ready. The ambiance is nothing special, and my table was greasy and dirty. There's room for improvement. Or you can take it with you and sit on the beach... 🙂

Delicious fresh fries and good-quality snacks. I go from Vlissingen to Westkapelle once a week just for Melis chip shop. It's also affordable, even cheaper than in the city during peak season. My favorite. And they have delicious satay there.

I've been coming here for many years, whenever I'm in the Netherlands. The fries used to be homemade and exceptionally delicious. Unfortunately, lately, the fries have become reminiscent of factory-made fries. What a shame.

We wanted kibbeling with fries. What we got was a family-sized portion of kibbeling dripping with grease, more breading than fish. The fries were also a disaster. We just had grease in our mouths, which could definitely be better. It's also a stupid solution that there's only one stand for fish, and if you want fries, you have to go to the stand in the same shop across the street. Never again.

melis frittenbude in westkapelle is a real gem the fries are cut and fried on the spot and you can just taste the difference they are without a doubt the tastiest fries you can eat crispy on the outside soft on the inside and just perfectly fried price quality is completely fine you get value for money and that is quite special these days in addition the kibbeling is really on a different level super fresh well seasoned and simply delicious if you are in the area this is an absolute must

Well, I've had better fries ..... All those hard bits at the bottom and I found them very thin. I prefer thicker fries :)

Tasty dry fries. With a portion of satay of 3 sticks. Curry and mayo on top. I didn't like the wooden skewer so I did it with my fingers. You sit right next to the water. You can also enjoy a hot cappuccino. Fish with it or a nice soft ice cream. The portion was finally normal for once. The satay sauce was sweet which I'm not a fan of. Now it was already quite busy so in July/August take into account mega crowds so long queues to order.!

I highly recommend it, especially the Bami, but not the ice cream with the chocolate drip. It's very heavy to eat and makes a huge mess. It was still delicious :)

Because of the bad service in Domburg, I cycled to Zoutelande for fries. At first I was a bit skeptical about fries at a beach bar. The friendly young man convinced me because the fries are homemade. Delicious fries, tasty mayonnaise, good price, and ditto portion. Potatoes are cut and fried on the spot. So that's why the small pieces in your container and the potatoes are fried twice. Fries as fries should be. Thank you, you made my day.
