A lovely bar with a "talking-room" atmosphere. The door is hidden, and once inside, the decor is beautiful. It's quiet, and people chat without their phones (a "house rule"). The staff is friendly, polite, and attentive. They'll explain the menu if needed and offer recommendations. A wonderful way to end an evening in Maastricht! :)

Nice spot for a cocktail. The entrance (not included) and the place where you will eventually have a drink (the bunker) differ in atmosphere.

You have to figure out how to find it at first, but once inside it has a very cozy, relaxed vibe and amazing cocktails. The bartender is a real gem; if we ever visit Maastricht again, we will definitely come back. Oh, and making a reservation is a must; we didn't make one the first night, but we still got a spot at the bar.

A beautiful underground cocktail bar. The atmosphere is incredible and the drinks are very good. We were lucky and were allowed in as walk-in guests. Definitely check out the other reviews; we walked past it several times the day before. Very unique and exclusive. 👌

Popped in here with my good friend and Mr Smith founder, Pieter VV. Great room in the basement which creates an authentic speakeasy atmosphere. Great to meet the owner, Reuben and he mixes a fantastic cocktail. This is an experience to savour if you are in Maastricht.

I had read so many good things about this being the place to try - I must say while the drinks were good, the service left a lot to be desired. The reservation times are anything between 1-2 hours, which I guess is fine for a quick drink on your way to a more relaxed place/dinner: The whole time I was there everything felt rushed , while you’re on your first drink you already get a reminder to order your next or last round because the next table is coming. Even though some tables / bar area were still empty you had to leave the place. It felt a bit impersonal , but I guess that’s the business model

We were told the bar was full and couldn’t let us in. A minute later, another group arrived, said they only wanted one cocktail, and they were allowed inside immediately. When I asked why, the staff member couldn’t really explain and repeated that they were “friends who came from far, just staying for one cocktail.” But we would have happily done the same. We were dressed appropriately, polite, and honestly left confused about why others were given preference while we were turned away. Very disappointing experience.

Amazing speakeasy experience! We were there yesterday (sunday) and the atmosphere was great and the drinks were excellent, not too crowded. Our bartender and server Natan and Michael were amazing, super friendly, attentive, and clearly very skilled at what they do. The service really made the whole experience even better. I would totally recommend this place to anyone looking for a great night out!

We had such a great evening at Mr. Smith’s in Maastricht. The place has a really cool speakeasy vibe, you ring a doorbell outside and after a short moment someone comes to let you in, which already makes the whole experience feel a bit special. Inside it has a really nice, slightly upscale atmosphere but still feels relaxed and welcoming. The service was fantastic the whole night. Everyone was super attentive without it ever feeling over the top. The drinks were amazing—very creative and honestly some of the best we’ve had in a while. I also tried one of the non-alcoholic options and it was just as thoughtful and delicious as the cocktails, which you don’t see everywhere. Also a special shoutout to our bartender Nathan (I hope I’m spelling that right). He was great - really friendly, paid a lot of attention to the details, and took great care of us throughout the evening. Definitely recommend checking this place out if you’re in Maastricht.

My colleague invited me for a drink here last Sunday. The drinks and the atmosphere were excellent. Many people say this is the best bar in Maastricht, and I can certainly understand why. However, it seemed like the bartender might have been under the influence of something. For a place of this caliber, that unfortunately came across as somewhat unprofessional.

This place is by far the best cocktailbar in Maastricht. The cocktails are inventive and not ones you see at other places. The girls in the service are also absolutely lovely! They check on you multiple times throughout the evening and make sure you’re enjoying your cocktail. They’re always smiling and super professional! Can’t wait to be back ❤️

We had a fantastic evening at Mr. Smith. The cocktails were unique and all delicious. We had a spot at the bar where we could see exactly how all the delicious treats were made. Definitely recommended, but be sure to book in advance. The staff were also very friendly and welcoming! It would be a shame not to have been!

A fantastic speakeasy with a great menu. We tried several cocktails, and they were all delicious. Sitting at the bar offers a great view of the bartender's craftsmanship. It's a wonderful sight; we had a wonderful evening.

I was excited to visit Mr Smith - I'd booked in advance for my partner and I. The bar staff took good care of us - they found us a quieter table as requested even though we showed up 15 mins early, the service was fast and we got free snacks. Unfortunately the cocktails were very bland for the price point (€14 to €15). They seemed pretty watery (we could barely taste the alcohol) and there wasn't really much flavour. Atmosphere wise it was a little on the intense side for me. There was dance music playing and it was pretty loud in the main room. It would have been tough to hear each other speak. We left after one drink. It's a shame - I like the whole speakeasy side of things. The marketing is done well.

We had a lovely evening at Mr. Smith’s! The mocktails were lovely as well as the Bloody Mary we tried, wish we had time to try some of the specialty cocktails as well. Amazing, intimate vibe and 10/10 service (young man with brown curls)! Would recommend for sure.

it was my first time there on a saturday night the magic started from when the door opened and until i left it was a great feeling of both the stuff and the place it self like we are in a living room but still nice and warm place definetly i recomment it and cocktails were also made with passion and so tasty . forgot to mention the best way to find it is to ask people around there they deffinetly know it :)

A quick stop at Mister Smith, and honestly, a really lovely time. The decor is stylish, the concept is truly appealing, and the cocktails are as beautiful as they are delicious. The only slight drawback was a bit of a chill in the air to warm up, and the background music was a little noisy, which made conversation difficult. But despite that, we had a wonderful time at your establishment! 😀😀

Dear, indeed, we were received with great respect, but after two cocktails we were very firmly asked to leave. We left after 1 hour and 15 minutes. A shame. The manner: very arrogant. A Maastricht fan.

You have to experience this. Exceptionally refined cocktails and a very informal atmosphere. The staff truly cares about you and listens attentively to your wishes. The mysterious character of Dr. Smith adds an extra special touch.

A cozy cocktail bar with a speakeasy, living room feeling. Service was great. The waitress was knowledgeable, helpful and attentive, and you're served with complementary sides of chips and popcorn. Quality of the cocktails was excellent. We do a lot of mixing ourselves and visit cocktail bars wherever we go, so we recognize a good cocktail when we taste one. This was definitely up there. I've seen some reviews complain about the prices, but we thought they were very fair for how small scale the establishment is and how good everything was. This is simply what a decent cocktail costs. While we got in without a reservation, we would recommend making one considering the size of the place.

What a great evening! Sat at the bar with my date. With every cocktail we got an extensive explanation from the bartender who also turned out to be the owner. Mr. Smith has won the prize for best cocktails in the past and that is also noticeable. What bangers! Came out of that tent completely drunk. For a first date I would limit myself to Max 2 ;). Price quality top, so definitely recommended!

This place is really overrated. My friend and I were initially not allowed in. Because we didn't have a reservation. We still made a reservation online... then we were 'allowed' to go in. The place was empty. Looked like a student basement. Not fancy, no experience... lousy place.

Incredible experience! I love the hidden bar concept. Having to ring the bell to enter is original and you feel privileged. The subdued atmosphere is great, it adds to the charm of the place. We were greeted by a very friendly and attentive waiter! The Cocktails we drank were delicious. You can even ask for the cocktail of your choice even though it is not on the menu. They're not afraid to give you a big dose of the real booze. And the Cocktails are very well prepared, the bartender pays attention to the smallest detail. We didn't notice the time passing and we had a great time. We can't wait to come back to try more delicious cocktails

Had a nice evening with a friend. With the first round of 2 super delicious cocktails. We started talking to Huub and I told him what I normally liked to drink (liqueur 43) and based on this he suggested a super tasty cocktail (it turned out later 😉) that was really to my taste. Really great. We finished our first round and an English-speaking lady came to take our next order. I said I would like what Huub just suggested to me, he knows what that was and my girlfriend ordered a Pornstar Martini. The lady we ordered from said she had another delicious suggestion in that flavor. So my girlfriend was persuaded to try this, since the teacher would know something about it. Now we know that tastes differ, but she knew what our first drinks were so which direction our tastes lay and that my girlfriend likes Pornstar Martini. Now a very nice looking glass arrived (pineapple) but when she tasted it the taste was very disappointing and not at all in our sweet taste direction or Pornstar direction. It tasted rather bitter with a dominant basil flavor that neither of us liked. I exchanged my delicious drink with my girlfriend, after all, we were there for her birthday. But I was really a bit disappointed and still don't understand when you see someone ordering sweet drinks that you make such a suggestion as a tip. Now it was our own choice to go along and try it, but it was a shame, while the boy who made the cocktails really had a good eye on our taste. The boy encourages us to offer a free drink on our next visit, but you don't ask that anyway. But sweetly offered. All in all a pleasant evening, just disappointing suggestion.

Together with my mother and sister I went for a drink in the speakeasy Mr Smith. And as we are used to from Mr Smith it was old-fashioned fun, the cocktails and mocktails were an absolute hit. Thank you for letting us raise our glasses at your place on my birthday. Next year again!!

The bartenders really know what they’re doing and are happy to recommend something based on your taste. Prices are on the higher side, but you do get great service, and they also serve drinks with water cups and popcorn, which is a nice touch. One thing to note—they are very strict about reservations. If you book a table, make sure to be on time, as they won’t hold it for long. It makes sense given how small the place is, but it does feel a bit rigid.

coolest bar with best cocktails in town. it’s hidden behind a nonchalant door with a waitor getting you in. the bar has a very intimate setting with beautiful dim red lighting. the vibe is impeccable. when it comes to service it is nothing short of magnificent. the bartenders are trained professionals with impressive skills. we didn’t really resonate with anything on the menu, so we asked them to make a drink based on our usual preferred drinks, and what we got was a perfect mix of familiar taste with mystery in it. the waitors are very very nice, approachable and helpful. my time here always makes my day, truly a delight. highly recommend :)

What a nice place! Friendly service that can provide good advice, a lot of choice on the menu with unique cocktails (although they can also prepare standard cocktails) and an excellent price-quality ratio. If you are in Maastricht, a bar that you definitely want on your list for a good evening!

Love the cocktails here, and the aesthetic is so cozy and vibey. It’s the perfect place to sip an old fashioned and talk about ethics. They even provide little snacks with the drinks. This is our girls night go to spot. Try something new.

Underground like cocktail bar. One of the most unique bar we had in Maastricht. Reserve before you visit, no visible sign outside of the door so you need to be careful when you ring the doorbell. Then, staff will bring you in and introduce you the drinks. (They are cute and super nice!) Great spot for friends gathering, late evening can get crowded but Definitely recommend it. 🥰

Really great. We tried 6 cocktails from their own creations and 5 of them were truly sublime! The atmosphere is very cozy, the service is friendly and attentive and I don't know what planet the people who find this overly expensive live on, but an average of €14 for a cocktail of this craftsmanship is really reasonable? We will definitely come back! PS: make sure you make a reservation, the first evening when we went for a long time without a reservation, we couldn't get in. The business can hold about 30 people and it is popular!

My friends and I were all having a good time until the rude waitress made us leave :( At one point she raised her voice and we were so startled! Not an experience I would recommend, especially for expats and internationals like me who did not feel welcomed here :(

My first experience with friends at this cocktail bar and the service was appalling. From being ordered to wait at the barrel for instructions to enter the bar, to being allocated a 30cm side table for 6 people (the same table used for 2 people) and being yelled at by the waitress when 2 friends arrived late (even though the establishment were advised on the late entry).

Made a reservation for 8 people from 8 to 10, we were given a table for 2 people for 6 people to sit, as 2 of our friends came late they were not accommodated as they had given the 2nd table which was reserved for us, to another couple, regardless of the reservation. One of the waitresses was shouting at us, zero politeness, zero respect for the customer, she even shouted customer doesn’t come first, sorry for the cocktail as they are nice but service is horrible and you don’t wanna pay to be disrespected!! -5 stars!!

The MOST HORRIBLE experience we ever had in any bar. Service was really disgusting. A waitress shouted at us because, of a group of 8 people, 2 of us were late. She then moved us to a super small table for 2 (8 people, in a table for 2!!), with the waitress keeping shouting at us and, at the end, almost kicking us out. At that point, of course, we did leave. And, after almost one hour, we heard from a person who was there that the entire sofa they kicked us from was still empty. How smart of the staff, eh? The waitress had the worst manners ever seen. Really so horrible. It's not the place it used to be years ago, probably due to the change of ownership/management.

A fantastic basement bar. The place is very stylish and the cocktails are excellently made. A range of house creations and all the classics can be requested. Cocktails were about 13-14 euros which is reasonable. Would advise pre-booking as it isn’t large

THIS IS THE BEST BAR I’VE EVER BEEN TO!! I love the vibe, the drinks and the staffs!! The staff that served us were friendly, knew a lot about cocktails and very professional. I love the concept and the house rules. We were indeed not using our phones, just had a great time talking and enjoying the delicious cocktails. It was also a nice touch that they offer unlimited water! This place is one of the reasons why we want to come back to Maastricht again! ♥️
