Top restaurant, nice dishes, friendly service. Definitely worth a detour.

I found it a shame that the service was so bad, we expected at least on Mother's Day that we would be helped with a little love. Although it should always be like that. I am super disappointed and felt rushed there.

Writing this on behalf of my parents who dined with you. On Sunday evening April 27. You have acted very badly. My father answered the question honestly: is it in good taste? . No, the plate of meat from the hare, which you call tenderloin, was tough as hell. It was barely eaten and the food was impossible to get rid of. You looked away from father. No apology or coffee was offered. Yes, it can happen, you said. I don't call this customer friendliness or respect for the customer. Bad service! If anyone knows what customer friendliness and good service mean, it is my father, who has had a top business for 40 years. What was it again… customer is king? Shame

Oceania remains a super nice restaurant. In the 40 years that I have been coming there, the service has remained consistently good and the dishes are as old as gold and never boring. A perfect restaurant for a family dinner: everyone happy

Run don’t walk to Oceania! I live in the states and this was the best Chinese food I’ve had since being in China. The restaurant is beautiful too.

Returned after almost 15 years and still as amazing! Lovely and friendly boss and great staff. Luxurious settings, top quality authentic Chinese food. Every dish was well presented. Superb quality ingredients. Highly recommended.

Very tasty food (the mapo nasu is highly recommended), and exceptionally pleasant service for Amsterdam - very polite without being exaggerated, speaking Dutch (!) (and English, and Japanese, and Chinese) but at the same time in such a way that you are welcomed like an old friend. Excellent price/quality ratio too.

The dim sums are an experience, the rest would get one more star if the prices were in line with comparable restaurants.

Picked up a takeaway order from Oceania in Amsterdam on Sunday, December 8 - it's normally great, but this time it went terribly wrong. My partner and I ordered 2 steamed oysters, 1 x Chinese broccoli and 1 x Shrimp with Chinese mushrooms for takeaway. The total amount was 70 EUR - on the high side, but normally the food is of top quality and the price is competitive. Where did it go wrong? The shrimp were raw and both containers were filled with a watery sauce - only discovered after a few bites that the shrimp were raw. This made us both extremely ill and required a long recovery from our food poisoning. Why this review? Normally I only write reviews in extreme cases - but after our discovery I immediately contacted Oceania and the following feedback was received: 'we can't do anything with this', 'the recipe has not changed for years', 'better luck next time'. I strongly recommend this restaurant to my network and associates. In fact, I would like my purchase price for the shrimps and Chinese broccoli refunded -> the oysters were tasty. Several emails have been sent to the restaurant about this, but no response has been received. ps. I can't find anything about the atmosphere, since it is a takeaway order.

Very poor service, not customer friendly at all!! We were a group of 8, the restaurant was almost empty, there were more staff than customers and still no time to provide good service.

I have been coming here on occasion for over 35 years. Whenever I'm in Amsterdam, Oceania is always on the agenda, and is always a party for me. Great food, good and friendly service, and high quality. Highly recommended!

Was an amazing place, the really expensive Chinese restaurant in Ams with a traditions and style. Its bad now. Service is good, menu is super, but quality is not there, even not close.

Been wanting to go since moving here and out of the blue took an employee one day for lunch .. Best Chinese food outside of China even my partner from China eats here lunch and dinner for entire week . Staff and food amazing

We shared several dishes with each other, all of which were super tasty. Even the children were enjoying themselves and everything went well. The atmosphere was good and the service excellent. Very friendly attentive.

Food tasted very good but the ma po tofu was not spicy enough and little meat, small spring rolls and pangsit tasted perfect.

Not so friendly, entrepreneurship involves a lot, especially customer friendliness, then I expect a more friendly attitude than an aggressive attitude.

Because of the reviews, I had very high expectations. Unfortunately, the waiter was very rude. He was not welcoming and was treating us with disrespect. The portions are tiny and not worth the price. The taste is bland. I will never go back to a place where you are treated like you are trash. There are so many more better places in Amsterdam to eat and get treated with more respect and kindness. If you come to Amsterdam, go to Zeedijk (CHINA TOWN) near Amsterdam CS. You will find something better.

Good for a full group dinner or a quick lunch with noodles or Rice dishes. Authentic Chinese cuisine in a classy manner. comparable to good-quality restaurants in Asia.

I left the restaurant very disappointed. The staff was not pleasant and welcoming. The food was disgusting and inedible. I wasted so much money for nothing. I will never go back there.

Do yourself a favour and don't go here. The staff is not welcoming nor friendly. When you ask for an explanation of a dish, the waiter did not elaborate. He did not like his job. It was just a waste of money. The food was disgusting. And when I asked for another dish because I didn't like it. The waiter said I can have another one, but I have to pay for both. The dishes are overpriced, gross and very small. I paid 72 euro's for something I could not even swallow. It's worthless. Be careful because they are taking your money because you have it and taking advantage of you. There are many restaurants in the area where the staff will treat you like a kind and Queen.

My favourite restaurant. Was here during 1979 to 1990. Just visiting AMS after 34 yrs. I return for my favourite food, stuffed trout, sea cucumber with abelone, beef noodles. Taste great as usual. I am sure the rest of the menu is also great but cat wait to eat my favourite. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Coquilles St Jaques excellently prepared!

It was my mother's birthday and my brother had made a reservation at this place. I had never been there before, so it was exciting. Once inside you could see that you are in a good place. Friendly service and the menu, yes, it was impressive. This was about fine dining and I was curious. We ordered everything. Shrimp, Dim Sums, Scallops, Duck, Tjauw Min and Nasi. The dishes were really of high quality, so different from what I am used to. This was a level up in taste for me. The prices are reasonable, but I think you should pay for quality. I had a wonderful and tasteful evening.

Oceania is a true Amsterdam staple (it has been around for 40+ years) and a must for anyone appreciating authentic delicious Cantonese and South Asian food, served by the most hospitable staff.

Great fine Chinese food. Everything felt balanced and fresh! Great wine and wonderful tea sellection and explanation. I will be back.

Great place to eat Chinese cuisine on a high level. They have a lot of variation of dishes of the menu. Also a lot of high quality Chinese teas. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The food was really good.

Hier met een vriendin gelunched. We hebben vooraf een gestoomde oester gegeten. Daarna de Peking eend op 3 manieren bereid. Het was heerlijk!

Geweldig gegeten. Begonnen met dimsum. Daarna mihoen met zeeduivel, kip met honing en pittige garnalen. En pittig waren ze inderdaad. Alleen het nagerecht viel wat tegen. Was net een loempia gevuld met ijs. Maar de rest was uitstekend. Helaas geen foto van de zeeduivel.

As an asian, i was so pleasantly surprised. This place made high quality chinese food better than some Asians restaurants back home. Homely environment, friendly and prompt service. i would 100% return here for all celebrations and special events.

VERY Underseasoned. Very disappointed. The waiter also did not do his job well. Not worth the money. The only reason this restaurant still exist is because of the location. Not because of the food. Do not waste your time and money to eat there.

Some of the best Chinese food I have ever eaten. If you are visiting Amsterdam I highly recommend. Service was spectacular as well. My extremely picky 7 year old made me eat there 3 times on a 3 1/2 day trip. The treated him like a king and even made an extra table when we came back the third time on a night when the restaurant was packed. Great wine list. Solid beer list. Presentation looks like the pictures that are usually reserved for just the menu. 2023 prices you can expect about €30‐45 per person with drinks. Would travel back to Amsterdam just to eat there.

My Nan lived in Amsterdam years ago and as I grew up, when she would talk about it, she would also talk about Oceania and it’s amazing food and service. This year we were able to visit this wonderful restaurant and it was confirmed that my Nan has never lied to me! The food was absolutely delicious and the staff made us feel like royalty. Coming to Oceania was the highlight of our trip and I look forward to coming back to Amsterdam to revisit this restaurant! ❤️

Probably one of the best places to eat Chinese around this area. The food was really good.

In the RAI Exhibition Centre district with its multitude of small informal restaurants, Oceania is a Chinese oasis, founded in 1978 by the Chan family. We used to come here 40 years ago when we lived in Amsterdam. The restaurant has been extended, renovated and gone upmarket since those early days but the food is still varied and very good. All 9 of us, including the kids, enjoyed our Anniversary meal and it was good to see Geoffrey Chan again after all thses years

My friends from UK were looking for a good Chinese restaurant near Amsterdam and they have not able to find one until I invited them to Oceania. They ordered the Honey Pork dishes and they loved it.

Wij hebben dit restaurant bezocht.. zeer hoge prijzen kwaliteit is laag vis was zeker niet vers! Smaakt zelfde als chinees eten afhalen! Nooit meer! Alleen de wijn selectie was goed!

Eten goed maar niet heel bijzonder. Ergerlijk: voor een schaaltje extra rijstveld maar liefst €9 worden afgerekend. Pure krenterigheid. En pure domheid, want dit maakt dat ik er nooit meer kom

Food was a bit bland and did not all come at the same time. I expected it to be more flavourful. For example, I tasted no 5 spice on the 5 spice squid. The food was ok but nothing spectacular. Waiter spilled a drink over our table but the waiters were friendly and a mistake can be made so not really a problem but is the reason for 3 in stead of 4 stars.

Altijd fijn restauarant alleen menu met haaievinnensoep kan echt niet meer. Bij navraag aan de ober werd dat niet meer geserveerd. Des te vreemder dat het nog op het menu staat. een nieuwe menukaart is toch zo gemakt of wordt het toch nog steeds geserveerd.

Lekker gegeten, maar wel weinig groenten en geen rauwkost of slaatje. Verwarming mag ook een graadje hoger.

We read the reviews and thought we had found a Gem.Sadly that was not the case,the food is overpriced for what we got. The meals come with only steamed rice,so we asked for fried rice which cost a little bit extra.The rice tasted very stale.We also had to wait a bit before drink orders were taken. Not a great experience!
