Olde Marckt in Wijk 03 Aalten Kern

We decided to eat there relatively spontaneously. There were still two tables available for a Sunday evening. We sat in the lovely outdoor seating area. We put together our own menu. It was excellent. Oysters: very high quality. The beef tartare was fresh and perfectly (i.e., subtly) seasoned. Superb texture. The eel on brioche was outstanding. The fish had a pleasant amount of fat and a good texture. It was clear they had invested in quality ingredients. Braised oxtail (the daily special) is always delicious, but unfortunately, it's hard to find these days. It was also top-notch. An absolutely superb meal. The service and wine selection left nothing to be desired. The staff/owner were very friendly and attentive. What we particularly liked: despite its culinary ambitions, the restaurant remains down-to-earth. Regarding the cuisine, here's a quote from GM: "This chef avoids gimmickry and brings finesse with individuality to every dish." That's exactly right. We went back for lunch the very next day. The fish salad is highly recommended.

Very unfriendly reception. I was looking for a place to have lunch, but strangely enough, they assumed we wanted omelets or something similar. We were immediately directed to another restaurant. The way this was done was very unpleasant. We certainly won't be going there again for an extensive lunch next time.

We enjoyed a wonderful game afternoon here last autumn. We returned today for lunch. Everything was just perfect. I could have easily spent the entire afternoon with just the amuse-bouches. We visited "Olde Markt" for the first time on February 15, 2026, and we really enjoyed it. The food was fantastic, and the wine selection was varied, spanning all of Europe (Palatinate, Austria, Spain, Portugal, Bordeaux/France), and perfectly complemented the dishes. The service was down-to-earth, friendly, and unpretentious – something we personally appreciate. It's a family-run establishment with a genuinely warm and welcoming atmosphere. The preparation and presentation of the dishes were very appealing and certainly worthy of a Michelin star. The Panhas with duck liver was truly superb – simple, an unusual combination, paired with Sauternes, and absolutely delicious! It once again demonstrated how brilliantly home-style cooking and fine ingredients can harmonize. We both ordered the "Carte Blanche" menu and thoroughly enjoyed it. Greetings to our friends in Bocholt across the border: You unfortunately don't yet know what a fantastic restaurant exists in Aalten! Reservations are recommended, especially in the evenings. On the penultimate day of 2025, we went here for a leisurely lunch. What a breath of fresh air this restaurant is! No frills, just down-to-earth Achterhoek hospitality, and simply good, delicious food in a wonderful setting! You can feel the family atmosphere. Proud parents, who had to get used to the changes brought about by their son, but how impressive of him to receive a Michelin star so quickly as a chef at such a young age! Highly recommended!👌

My husband and I recently had dinner on Monday evening and had a wonderful time. The service was very friendly and welcoming, and they were truly experts at their craft. We were completely pampered with delicious appetizers, surprising oysters, and other delicious dishes. We thoroughly enjoyed the delicious food and the lovely atmosphere.

We were received very warmly in a very relaxed and open environment. No fuss, just friendly and good. At the table, a glass of champagne was poured very generously, a number of exquisite amuse-bouches were served, and the menu was handed out, allowing us to choose between a delicious 7-course dinner or compose a menu à la carte. We opted for the second option and thus enjoyed, among other things, steak tartare with truffle, langoustines, and venison shot in the area. Everything was well-seasoned and served without too much fuss. We also enjoyed a very fine bottle of wine from Burgundy, for a very fair price. And they go to great lengths to provide you with the best care. When we asked if a taxi could come, the answer was "and otherwise I'll just drive you there myself." What a nice, pleasant, and delicious place!

We had a fantastic meal at Olde Marckt in Aalten. The dishes were delicious, well-seasoned, and expertly prepared. A delicious Port from my own vintage was conjured up from the fantastic wine cellar (thanks for the tour :-)). To finish, they made crepe Suzette, not even on the menu, but incredibly well-executed. Definitely a place to return to.

We had a delicious 5-course dinner here on June 1st. Dishes are definitely prepared here at a high level. All dishes are served beautifully, without being too pretentious. The atmosphere is relaxed. The service is very attentive, thinks along with you and really makes you feel at home. The owner had heard that it was our wedding anniversary and gave us a nice surprise afterwards. Haas voor de een en Kabeljauw voor de ander in een presentatie en smakenpalet dat de kwaliteit van de keuken laat ruiken, proeven en zien. Telkens bijpassende kwaliteitswijnen. I was there on Sunday with my grandparents. We are regular guests and always enjoyed coming. Oh well. After the main course we were asked if everything was OK, to which I said that I didn't like the food, especially the sauce tasted very bitter and burnt. But I also said that I couldn't quite describe the taste, I just didn't like it. But the vegetables would have been ok. Afterwards we received the dessert menu with a cheeky comment from the host, I shouldn't say that the food was burnt. Then I said that I never said that the food burned, but that the sauce tasted that way. He then continued to discuss it with me in a cheeky tone. We were all kind of perplexed at first because it was just super disrespectful and especially in front of the other guests. Ultimately, if I didn't like the food, it's my opinion. Of course, I would have paid for it anyway, which is why I'm wondering why people would make such a fuss when they explicitly asked me my opinion about the food beforehand. As a long-term customer, it was definitely the last time for us.

Fantastic restaurant in the center of Aalten. It was a couple of hours stay in the city. I am happy that border town has such sophisticated (in a good way) restaurant. I was very happy to find Cabernet Sauvignon from my favourite region in the wine list (even per glass!) both dishes I ordered were very tasty but eel with brioche was just outstanding!

Wir hatten das Menü, welches es nur tischweise gibt. Eine Vorspeise haben wir gegen Gebackene Gänseleber getauscht. Die Amuses mit kleinen knusprigen Hörnchen - gefüllt mit Lachs bzw. Huhn waren vielversprechend. Als weiteres Amuse gab es einen kleinen Becher einer Gamba-Suppe. Die war schon deutlich besser als das übliche. Das Tartar mit Parmesan war gut, die Gänseleber war sehr gut. Das Hirschrückenfilet war auf den Punkt, Das Gemüse dazu passte prima, war aber etwas wenig -Schwarzwurzeln und französische sehr kleine Pilze. Der kleine Salat hatte eine unauffällige Vinaigrette - vielleicht sollte er im Hintergrund bleiben. Auch der Nachtisch hat überzeugt. Der Abend hat sich gelohnt. Die Preis-Leistungsrelation war gut.

Recently walked in spontaneously on a Friday afternoon for lunch. We had the croquettes and the tuna salad, both dishes were excellent. Good portion for the money you pay, beautifully presented plate and professional service. The coffee was also very tasty. In terms of service also very good; heating a bottle for our son was no problem.

The Olde Marckt is by far the best restaurant in Aalten. In the 25 years, the Stoverink family's restaurant has become a household name for delicious food at a high level with a low accessibility threshold. Anyone who enjoys fantastic food and delicious wines should visit this place! The cook Bram is the son of Host Albert. After years of being a chef in a two-star restaurant, Bram has raised the bar of the restaurant. I won't be surprised if the restaurant is awarded a Michelin star in a while
