Oma Jo's in Binnenstad-Noord

Walked in Leiden and plopped down on this terrace during the walk. It looks very cozy! The owner and staff were very nice. Unfortunately, the terrace was partially closed due to a staff shortage, but luckily we found a table, lovely by the water in the sunshine. We ordered 2 toasted sandwiches, a Coke Zero, and an orange juice. We were honestly told that it wasn't freshly squeezed, but that didn't bother us. (Paid 22.50) Paying inside is no problem (it's safer that way, too).

We originally thought this would be a nice place to sit outside in the sun for drinks and lunch as it has a nice view. We arrived a bit early for food and so had some drinks and chatted for around an hour. We were then asked twice within 5 minutes whether we wanted anything, and when we said we were okay for the moment the waitress stood there staring at us and told that we were sitting around for a long time without ordering. She then left and sent the owner out who asked again if we wanted something then pushed us to leave. If it was busy, we would understand but there were other empty tables, and nobody waiting. When we went to pay for the drinks, the owner was very rude and told us we were taking up a large table (4 people at a 5 seat table), and that we spent too long not ordering anything. We explained we were planning to eat there but due to the treatment and the staff effectively forcing us to leave we didn't. She told us this is just how it works in a big city, and that we obviously didn't have experience with that. We all live in Leiden 😂 and we have never experienced this rudeness before. I would avoid this place in future as it appears they care more about money than quality of service.

Great Place for a beer in the sun. They had a lovely collection of drinks and the people are really friendly. (I forgot my bag and they were quick to respond so I had not to worry anymore)

Our first stop, for coffee, cappuccino, banana iced coffee 🍌, banana bread... The coffee was good, the bread "just"... The banana iced coffee wasn't really good....to put it mildly.... You have to go inside to order and pay, but it does get brought to you...

There were six of us, including our mothers, aged 87 and 88. A nice spot was immediately arranged for us. The couple already seated, at two tables for two, were very annoyed that they had to give up a table, even though they were politely asked to do so. We thoroughly enjoyed the very friendly service and the cozy atmosphere. Highly recommended!!!

I was shocked by the chaos when taking the order, but afterward, it got even worse. The drinks were wrong, and they were brought in five batches, meaning not everyone got their drink on time. The owner is nice, but she's very self-absorbed.

After being ignored for 10 minutes on the relatively quiet terrace, we decided to move on to the next door.

Oma Jo’s is a sweet family owned business. The staff are super friendly and fun to talk to. They serve traditional Dutch bar food with a beautiful scenic twist. I can’t wait to go back to hang out with the whole crew and share a beer, cigarette, and bitterballen over a cacophony of laughter .🍻 Bonus Points: the owner speaks four languages and her son is a true people person with a good laugh always in the works

A super friendly environment with globally minded people looking to celebrate the simpler things at a fair price. The whole staff is super friendly and helpful. The owner is a super intelligent, globally-minded, and conversational person (fluent in 4 languages), and her son is also a super people-oriented person with a great sense of humor and personable conversation. I look forward to coming back with my fiancé after our move - it will definitely become a local watering-hole for us if we’re in the area. 😉

Very friendly people, Unfortunately the food is bad, very bad. Artisanal food cannot be served by serving a croquette from an airfryer on a sandwich from a supermarket. So if you go for coziness. Go ahead. If you go for food. Walk on.

The fresh ginger tea tasted of nothing. Indicated and received a new glass, but it was no better and left alone. Had to pay 9 euros for 2 teas.

Two croquettes with bread for 12 euros. It looks and tastes like two Albert Heijn weekend rolls with a large bitterbal on each. Absolutely ridiculous. The brie roll is soggy and tasteless. In short, too much money for what you get.

We order 2 rosé wines. But when paying we had to pay for the other wine (€6.50) instead of the rosé house wine (€4.75). We had not mentioned which wine we wanted, they just assumed that we wanted the more expensive wine. Otherwise we should have said that?? According to the owner that was completely normal?? We could get a €2 discount, but we declined. In our opinion, this is not the way things are and you should always ask the guest which wine!! Too bad, but we won't be going here anymore!

Food was not just snack bar quality. Service and atmosphere was good.

We went for a hot drink that came later as well, friendly staff with slow service. Nachos also served in a different way. While it wasn't busy we had to wait a long time for those nachos

The atmosphere in this place is incredible, it's such a wonderful location and my friend and I had a great time. The food and the custom cocktails are amazing and it's definitely a place I'll be returning to next time I'm in the area!

Very basic food, nothing special. Straight out of the supermarket, though 3x the price.

Great hostess and host. Food is beautifully presented and soooo good. Great prices, wines and beer. The outside terrace sits on the Oude Vest canal and surrounds Leiden’s City Central
