I found the person who greeted us and showed us to the table rather grumpy, which was a real shame. I had pork belly, but it was only tender on the fat side.

Fantastic. We dined with 20 people. We had a set menu. Everything was presented perfectly and neatly. We all received our courses at the same time. Excellent, compliments to the team.

We all enjoyed a very special evening. It was nice that our dog was allowed on the patio and had water. I would have appreciated smaller portions. Due to illness, I can only eat a small amount. We always come back.

The salads were very poor, especially the chicken salad, which isn't even worth half a star. The salmon was meh, everything else was good. Oh, and the appetizers were fine too. Otherwise, we had a very nice evening.

Nice ambiance and excellent food. Really recommended, the curry/ginger soup, was nerlt as the other dishes tongue-tingling.

Very nice evening with colleagues, asked for a round table and also got it. Food was very tasty. We had various dishes, bavette, burger, satay, salmon, scampi, everyone ate deliciously. I definitely recommend Op Hete Kolen!

This is now our third time that we went to eat at Hot Coals with two people

BBQ plank and farmer's schnitzel delicious. Tournedos (for 3 people) a big disappointment. Not juicy, not really tender and that for a hefty price tag.

Because the tournedos of 180 grams, costs 43 euros, ordered a ribeye, tasted good. However, the onion rings and the torpedo shrimps in advance were not really good quality, not crispy and little taste. All in all certainly not bad eaten, but next time still to the competitor for a good and a cheaper tournedos.

Everything was great: 4-5 beers on tap and a wide selection of bottled beers. The food was also excellent, highly recommended. We went there for lunch without a reservation, but this evening we couldn't get a regular table without one. So I recommend making a reservation in advance.

Beautiful restaurant where we have had several delicious lunches. Update May '25: Despite the fact that you can eat deliciously at Op Hete Kolen, they have recently raised the prices exorbitantly. The boeren uitsmijter is always the favorite, but I think it has increased by more than 30%. Previously €13, now €17. That really goes too far for me.

After not being at Op hete Kolen for a while, I went back again. The smell outside was wonderful! The food, on the other hand... Opted for a Brie meal salad for almost €20, never before received such a basic salad for this money! At the bottom a layer of raw vegetables, a layer of lettuce, some walnuts and 3 slices of brie. There was actually no sauce or honey. I honestly expected more for the money. After a few bites I noticed a 'mossy' taste. When I took a closer look, my salad was full of the 'leftovers' that remain at the bottom of an open package and are therefore very wet and should actually be thrown away. I would never use this in my salad at home! I collected all these pieces and gave them to the waitress in question, all she could do was pass it on to the kitchen. No apology or gesture. For me the reason not to come back! Besides the fact that it was not worth repeating for us, I also had terrible problems with the food. We therefore quickly called it a day after our main course and drink.

Meat okay, too much smoke flavor, so a shame about the meat, garnishes and vegetables lukewarm, plate lukewarm. Fries 1x hot and 1x cold. Time between front and head 45 minutes, too long. Potatoes undercooked with grilled salmon. It's nice that we were contacted the next day regarding the review.

We had never heard of Restaurant Op Hete Kolen. We were drawn in by the delicious smell coming from the restaurant and the coziness it radiated. We had not made a reservation, but were quickly led to a nice table. We were surprised by the variety of dishes and special beers on offer. What a treat to be a guest here. We chose the Tournedos and the Picanha. After the first bite we immediately had a smile on our faces. What a fantastic taste sensation. Just enjoying from start to finish. After this experience we have a new favorite restaurant where we will eat our delicious piece of meat from now on. Op Hete Kolen is definitely recommended and we would love to come back again. UPDATE: After we enjoyed our first visit so much as you can read in this review, we decided to go back again. This time we both ordered a 400 gram Picanha. Unfortunately, the disappointment was visible on our faces. As good as it was the first time, it was so incredibly bad this time. The meat was simply not tasty and so sinewy that it was difficult to cut, let alone eat, even with the sharp meat knife. We both wondered whether we had even gotten picanha, this meat was so incredibly bad that you shouldn't even charge half of what it costs at "op hete kolen". When the staff asked if everything was to our liking, we shared this with them. How bad the taste is, how sinewy the meat is and how disappointed we are, after having had such a good experience in this restaurant before. This was shared with the kitchen and then they said that they couldn't do anything for us. This is really a shame and a missed opportunity for "op hete glazen". That something sometimes goes wrong, that can happen anywhere. At such a moment, the customer should be able to trust a restaurant, that there is a solution, so that the customer doesn't have to leave disappointed. But that you don't do anything about it and make your customers pay too much for bad food. This really leaves a bad taste in our mouths. We left half of our food and left. Unfortunately, this is a reason for a bad review and unfortunately we have to say that we will never come back here again. UPDATE 2: We have just been approached by “op hete kool” with apologies and a very nice proposal for compensation. This makes us feel heard and appreciated as customers. That is why we are already giving the service a few extra stars. Hopefully we can put everything back to 5 stars after our next visit. To be continued..

I reserved a table at Op Hete Kolen for my wife’s birthday and came all the way from Düsseldorf for the occasion. I had contacted them in advance via email, mentioning that I wanted to surprise my wife — they replied promptly and with such warmth that I already felt it was going to be a special evening. As soon as we arrived, I saw that they had prepared a beautifully decorated table just for us, with balloons, candles, and lovely little touches. My wife was genuinely surprised and moved. We were welcomed with a delicious cocktail, followed by an exciting starter served with fresh, tasty bread. The highlight of the evening was the incredibly flavorful and tender meat served as the main course — absolutely outstanding. This was truly an unforgettable experience. I want to thank the wonderful and warm-hearted team again for creating such a memorable evening for us. As a true food lover who has visited many restaurants across Europe, I can say that this place stands out — not only for the quality and taste of the food but also for the excellent value for money and outstanding service. Even though we don’t speak Dutch, we never felt out of place. One of the staff members, who was originally from Turkey, kindly helped us throughout the evening, and everyone else was also amazing. You could tell they do their job with heart and soul. I’m so happy I chose this place for this special night. Warm hospitality, incredible flavors — what more can you ask for in a restaurant?

Best restaurant I have ever eaten at, delicious local beer at the start that matched very well with the delicious food. The meat was really tender and well marinated with a delicious sauce. The dessert was also great, a board with all types of desserts they had. This restaurant deserves 5 stars. Great.

Very unfortunate, I wanted to reserve a round table for 7 people and thought if I book a month in advance it should work. They had 2 round tables, one of 6, one of 10 people, they couldn't guarantee that of 10, if a group of 10 came, they could have the table, and the group of 6 couldn't get a seat. After 7 emails back and forth, the idea was over and we discussed at another restaurant in Deurne where it was possible.

Heerlijke zakelijk lunch. Goede prijs/kwaliteit en vriendelijk personeel. Gerechten zijn van behoorlijk formaat.

Op Hete Kolen, een mooi restaurant met een jeugdige bediening in zowel restaurant alsook in de keuken. Ze doen het goed, ze geven je het gevoel er voor je te zijn. Het is een grote zaak. Wij waren er op een zaterdagavond, de zaak zat helemaal vol. Altijd fijn als een zaak vol zit. Het eten is goed, leuke borden en een afwijkende manier van opdienen. Ik had een tournedos besteld well done. Dit laatste waren ze vergeten, ff doorbakken. Dat zou een puntje van aandacht mogen zijn. Er wordt vlot en vakkundig werk afgeleverd in de keuken. Complimenten!!!

Heerlijk gegeten van voorgerecht tot nagerecht, het was voor ons de eerste keer bij op hete kolen en komen zeker een keer terug.

The atmosphere and service are perfect. I had the grilled beef burger and it was the most expensive burger but it had no bite and the bun was dry which made it fall apart. The fries were fried too long and had many hard pieces. What my table companions had looked better except for the fries because they came from the same batch. Service is very good. The entrance should be a bit more spacious.

Hot Coals. The restaurant we had heard a lot about in recent years. Good reviews. It had been on our list to visit for a long time, as big BBQ/kamado enthusiasts. We don't go out too often for an evening because we have a small child and now we also have a second baby. Now the time had finally come: a night out for us. We were well received and had a nice seat at the back of the restaurant. Nice operation. The starter (pulled pork with nachos and moinkballs) was delicious. We then ordered the main course, several things from the menu. Just before it was served, I received a call from my mother: out of the blue our son became seriously ill, he was not doing well and had to go to the doctor's office. We were very shocked. What was finally supposed to be a fun evening at Hete coals that we had been looking forward to for a long time, ended abruptly in: the main course was 'eaten' in 5 minutes with tears in my eyes (the main course had just been served). Immediately paid the bill and went home. I give the quality of the food a 10. Very tasty, well prepared. Only we couldn't enjoy it at all. It would have been lenient if Hete Kolen had let us come back one evening with a voucher, for example. I told them, crying, what was happening and immediately asked for the bill. Nothing was done about it. The bill for €120 was presented, good luck and done. That's the only thing I would recommend, more personal service, if I were an owner myself and encountered this situation with a customer. Hence a 3 in terms of rating. Food-wise it's great. But for us it has now left a very unpleasant memory. 0.0 enjoyed the evening. That was our experience with Hete Kolen.

Hete Kolen. Het restautant waar we de afgelopen jaren veel hadden over gehoord. Goede recensies. Het stond al lang op ons lijstje om ooit eens heen te gaan, wij als grote bbq/kamado liefhebbers. We gaan niet al te vaak een avondje weg ivm een klein kindje en nu ook inmiddels een tweede baby verder. Nu was het eindelijk zover: een avondje uit voor ons. We werden goed ontvangen en hadden een fijn plekje achterin het restaurant. Nette bediening. Het voorgerecht (pulled pork met nacho’s en moinkballs) waren heerlijk. We hadden vervolgens het hoofdgerecht besteld, verschillende dingen van de kaart. Net voordat het opgediend werd werd ik gebeld door mijn moeder: ons zoontje uit het niets dood ziek geworden, het ging niet goed en moest naar de huisartsenpost. Wij enorm geschrokken. Wat eindelijk een leuke avond moest zijn bij Hete kolen waar we heel lang naar uit hadden gekeken, eindigde abrupt in: het hoofdgerecht in 5 minuten naar binnen ‘gevreten’ met tranen in mijn ogen (het hoofdgerecht werd net opgediend). Meteen de rekening betaald en naar huis gegaan. Kwaliteit eten geef ik een 10. Ontzettend lekker, goed bereid. Alleen konden wij absoluut niet genieten. Het zou ergens coulant geweest zijn als Hete Kolen ons een avondje terug had laten komen met een tegoedbon bijvoorbeeld. Ik had hun verteld, huilend, wat er aan de hand was en meteen om de rekening gevraagd. Daar werd niets mee gedaan. Dat is het enige wat ik zou aanraden, mocht ik zelf eigenaar zijn en deze situatie bij een klant tegen komen. Vandaar een 3 qua beoordeling. Wat betreft eten is het super. Maar voor ons heeft het nu een zeer nare herinnering achter gelaten. 0,0 genoten van de avond. Dat was onze ervaring met Hete Kolen.

Het was er verschrikkelijk druk en dat op een dinsdag avond. Was het dan ook extra goed? Dat viel tegen. Het eten was lekker hoor, echt waar. Malse carpaccio vooraf ( met veel uien, wat wij vreemd vonden en niet lekker) en Picanha als hoofdgerecht, netjes medium rare, was prima, niet uitzonderlijk. De zalm van de collega's zag er ook goed uit. Maar de bediening was traag. Duurde erg lang voordat we drinken mochten bestellen en nog eens zo lang voordat we het kregen. Een vrouwelijke serveerster was vriendelijk, haar collega's een stuk minder. En dat vind ik toch erg belangrijk. Dus ik zou niet zo snel terug gaan. Jammer

Delicious food and if something is not good you can indicate this and you will receive a new dish. (Had it once with beef medium rare version) Good portions, value for money.

Ik vind het een fijne plek om te eten, al zit heel het restaurant vol, je hebt geen last van elkaar. De kaart heeft keuze genoeg, tegen betaalbare prijzen.

Mooie zaak, lekker eten en goede service. Alleen jammer dat we voor de deur aan een lange tafel zaten en het erg koud was omdat er steeds mensen in en uit liepen. De ronde tafel was helaas al bezet. Volgende keer dus niet voor bij het raam zitten bij de deur.

What a wonderful evening we had yesterday! For the first time we sat 'Op Hete Kolen', but certainly not for the last if it is up to us. The food is delicious, and doesn't come in too quick succession. Great when you have had a gastric bypass. The service is extremely friendly and carefully questions which dishes can and cannot be eaten with fish and nut allergie. The waiter persuaded us to take the grilled donut for dessert. By mistake he orderd two portions, but we got that second one for free. Didn't need to do that, but we found it very sweet. Thanks to everybody at the restaurant, we would love to come back again!

Eerste bezoek en gelijk goede indruk. We kwamen iets later dan gereserveerd het restaurant binnen en dat was geen probleem. Bediening is vriendelijk, menukaart is goed en de lunch was lekker. Ga zeker terug.

If you like a good piece of meat, you've come to the right place. The rib-eye steak and spare ribs were excellent. We both had the soup as a starter, which was also very tasty. The only downside was that the fries were a bit small. I will definitely come back here!

Als je van een goed stuk vlees houdt, ben je hier aan het juiste adres. De rib-eye steak en spareribs waren voortreffelijk. We namen allebei de soep vooraf, die ook erg lekker was. Het enige minpuntje was dat de friet wat weinig was. Ik kom hier zeker terug!

Went to eat for the first time today. Service was top notch. We regularly asked for drinks or whether we still had enough of everything. The portion and quality are excellent. Very busy for a Wednesday. Would make a reservation in advance. Prices in line with the market.

Went for dinner with my girlfriend. First impression: Super cozy and atmospheric To eat: Go for the pork belly and the sirloin steak. Pork belly was so tender that it practically fell apart and melted in the tongue We ordered the sirloin steak blue (rawer than red). Few restaurants can prepare that in the Netherlands. This was prepared on coals and you could clearly taste it. Delicious! We left the sauce alone because it would detract from the delicious taste of the meat The fries that were served with it were boring. Not a miss in our eyes. The staff is friendly and ready to help you with a smile. Will we come back? We will definitely be back! Thank you for the delicious food!

We had a delicious lunch with the streeckplankje. We had indicated that we wanted to do without fish and fortunately that was no problem. It consisted of: - carrot soup with coconut milk and smoked chicken - spring roll with smoked chicken - mini meatballs with bacon around them and BBQ sauce - panini with ham and cheese - bruchetta with roast beef, marinated diced tomatoes, mini mozzarella and pesto - 1 slice of brown and 1 slice of whole wheat bread with a bowl of herb cream and aioli - pieces of honey cake with chocolate sauce
