Very nice food but ridiculous noise of the kitchen being open so close to the customers. Specifically the handling of the cutlery was bothering as they make a lot of constant very annoying noise. Consider doing this chores before or after the end of the shift

Perfect diner spot, we accidentally ordered the wrong wine and they swapped the open bottle with our preferred wine. Food was also great. Staf was very friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend

A lovely, authentic Portuguese restaurant. The food is good, and the service is friendly and fast. I recommend the Piri Piri chicken and the octopus; they go very well with Vinho Verde. The desserts are spectacular, especially the orange roll and the almond tart.

A great little restaurant that we’ll come back to when we’re next in Amsterdam. It’s small with tables closely spaced to noisy but we were able to have a conversation without straining to hear ourselves. Portions are generous so a starter of bacalo a bras, a main of octopus and side of grilled vegetables was more than enough for two and everything was delicious. It’s popular in the evenings so probably necessary to book online.

I didn’t enjoy it enough to even want a photo. The food wasn’t very tasty and felt overly salty. Portions are extremely large, so sharing is definitely the smarter choice. The atmosphere is nice and gives a good Mediterranean vibe, but the service was disappointing — they rushed me to finish my salad just so they could place the main dish on the small table. A few other odd service moments too. Overall, too touristy and not a place I’d choose again.

We ordered bakalau and creamy rice seafood as main courses, flamed chorizo as the starter. And green wine. Everything was so delicious. Also the service was very good they treat you so warmly and naturally like a friend. When we were sitting there we saw some customers look like old customer for many years, talking with the owner and waiters like families. I like this place, very cozy. Unfortunately we don't have more space for desert.... Definitely will come again.

Friendly staff, huge portions! I'd recommend ordering just a main course with a vegetable side dish. I had the half chicken with fries. It didn't come with any vegetables. I would have preferred a quarter chicken, as we'd already had snacks and appetizers.

A great place for a tasty bite to eat. Lots of delicious fish, but my favorite remains the Piri Piri chicken. Of course, there are some tourists (location), but they don't overwhelm them. It can get a bit noisy sometimes because of the crowds.

You’re just throwing your money away. Absolutely terrible. Unbelievably greedy, with awful service and even worse food. I can’t believe we paid 100 euros for this meal. The waiters didn’t even bother to replace the used forks for dessert. The salt shaker was broken and spilled all over the food and the table. Please, do your stomach a favor and stay away from this place.

Beautiful restaurant. Typical Portuguese decor. Unfortunately, the food wasn't Portuguese. We had the frango no churrasco and the codfish a bras. The chicken was bland, and the codfish a bras had thick chunks of cod. It wasn't chopped as finely as it should be. It's a shame, because as a Portuguese, you have saudade da comida portugues 😏

Although the dishes were presented well, the taste and texture wasn't there for me. Quite a few of the dishes were too salty, and the octopus was super rubbery that we couldn't even bite through it. The staff were lovely though and they let us try a small glass of their green wine as we'd never heard of it before!

Excellent food, real food. We ate the fish, which was amazing, Portuguese sardines, and of course, the codfish cakes. The cook is Brazilian and a great cook. I'll be back in the next few days because the food is very good.

One of the best spots for dinner in Amsterdam. Feels like a home cooked meal. Tastes so good and filling. I highly recommend the fish of the day specially if it’s sea bass. The waiter was very good and welcoming and accommodated our family. We really enjoyed our time here and would be back to try out other dishes in the menu.

The outdoor seating was lovely, with fairy lights strung overhead and a light breeze making the evening extra pleasant.

I've been a customer here for 4 years, I'd say I come every other month, especially when friends come over. The food is amazing, even for the high standards set by Portuguese food. At this point I know most (if not all) of the waiters. I came here on Wednesday with 7 other friends though, and this time around we saw a waiter being terribly rude to an Indian couple that tried to get his attention because they weren't getting service (it was busy, but this was unwarranted, they even wanted to leave). After we ordered we started to see people giving us the side eye, and we didn't bother. We're Brazilian, but we never felt uneasy in this restaurant before. My wife decided to be playful with one of the waiters about a dessert, to which she got a tough reply. There were a few instances of these micro-aggressions. When we were leaving, we were asked where we were from because there was a Brazilian working there. I knew the guy that asked so I asked if he had family in Brazil (I remembered from the previous visits). He said he didn't, and then he corrected himself to say his mother was Brazilian from a beautiful city in the northeast. When my friend asked if he'd ever been to visit, he said he wouldn't go to Brazil. When we asked why, he said "Why would I go there? To be robbed?" All while having a rude tone all the way through. I don't really understand what we did wrong to deserve this treatment, if that's ever excusable. So, yeah, we didn't bother, we just left. But that's the last we'll see of Portugalia, unfortunately. Xenophobia is a crime, and you should be very ashamed of yourselves. To make this all even more ironic is that my wife is actually Portuguese. In summary, don't come. Even if the food is good, it's not worth the service. Maybe you'll be fine if you're not a target group.

The best octopus I've ever had. Sensational! Just like the codfish fritters! I definitely recommend it. I've been there twice, and both times were perfect. The service is a bit slow, but it's worth the wait.

They serve really nice, filling Portuguese dishes, perhaps a little bit pricey but it is in the center of Amsterdam, and rather worth it for the portion sizes. I got the piri piri chicken and loved it, although more sauce would have been nice (the bowls that they gave were tiny). The octopus salad was very nice and fresh too, perfect for sharing.

Came here to celebrate a dear friend's recovery from cancer, a moment that should have been pure joy. Instead, we encountered a troubling display of cultural bias that left us questioning everything this establishment claims to represent. I've been here multiple times before and the food is genuinely excellent, which makes this experience all the more disappointing. Portuguese restaurants are naturally lively spaces where conversation flows as freely as the wine. We were speaking at normal volumes for the setting when a British table began aggressively telling us to "shut up." When I politely explained we weren't being loud and that this was a special celebration, they became even more hostile. Here's where it gets truly disappointing: the waiter approached our table, not theirs, and immediately threatened to kick us out. No mediation, no attempt to understand the situation, no recognition that other tables were significantly louder. The bias was unmistakable, and frankly, the selective targeting felt uncomfortable in ways that went beyond just poor service. What stings most is the cultural betrayal. As someone with many Portuguese and Brazilian friends, I know that animated dinner conversation isn't just normal, it's essential to the experience. For a Portuguese establishment to police its own culture to appease customers who fundamentally don't understand what they've walked into is disappointing. The food may be authentic, but the hospitality certainly isn't. True Portuguese restaurants celebrate the human voice, family moments, and life's victories. This place has apparently forgotten those values in favor of customers who want sanitized "ethnic" experiences without the actual culture. We left feeling discriminated against in a space that should have understood us completely. Our celebration was cut short, our joy diminished, and our faith in this establishment destroyed. Management would be wise to address these serious service inconsistencies before they impact the restaurant's standing in the community. Word travels quickly in dining circles, and incidents like this tend to be remembered. Until management learns to protect their cultural identity rather than apologize for it, I cannot recommend this place to anyone seeking an authentic Portuguese experience. Save your celebrations for restaurants that actually celebrate with you.

I am deeply concerned about the food safety standards of this restaurant. During my visit, I found insect eggs in the spinach served to me — something absolutely unacceptable in any professional kitchen. What shocked me even more was the staff’s reaction. Instead of a sincere apology or any gesture to take responsibility, they simply replaced the contaminated spinach as if this were a minor issue. Finding insect eggs in a dish is a serious health concern, and the lack of genuine acknowledgment or concern from the restaurant is both disappointing and alarming. I expected better hygiene standards and customer care. I sincerely hope the management will take this feedback seriously and address their food safety and staff training before it leads to a more serious incident.

I’m absolutely head over heels for this restaurant! The food is out-of-this-world delicious, the quality is top-tier, and the vibe is so cozy and welcoming. Okay, I’ll admit, I had a little oops moment and spilled my drink all over the table , but even in the middle of their busiest rush, the staff was so kind and chill about it. You would not think that you are eating in the center of Amsterdam. You literally transport somewhere in Portugal! Great place, great food, service was a bit slow but at the end all was great!

The restaurant was very popular and had to accommodate guests fleeing from the terrace from very strong, treevending gushes if wind. Nevertheless, service was quick and to the point and the dishes, for me as a novice to Portuguese cuisine, surprising and tasty. We had grilled sardines, pork stew, octopus and beef, all well prepared, with the entrees finely seasoned. Especially the pork stew just melted in the mouth deliciously! They also had non alcoholic beer which we appreciated and the interior is charmingly decorated with citations from poets and funny scenes rendered on azulejos tiles.
