Portugalia Tasca in Grachtengordel-Zuid

One of the best restaurants I've been to in Amsterdam. The grilled octopus was out of this world!

I ordered the octopus dinner. Good, a bit chewy so likely not the freshest octopus and not a fair portion of octopus for the price. Also too many potatoes. I suggest skipping the octopus and ordering something else all together. I also ordered what I thought was grilled vegetables. In fact they were sautéed. It was good.

Today it was my second time going there. The food is excellent! As a Greek, I am having a hard time finding authentic Mediterranean food in Amsterdam. This place is certainly what is promises to be. True, tasty Portuguese food, the kindest people and a very thoughtful traditional Portuguese atmosphere. My gratitude to the kind-hearted Italian waiter.

Delicious food and amazing staff.

Poor service and the food was unfortunately very disappointing. I had expected it to be just as good as the Portuguese restaurant that used to be here on Kerkstraat. But unfortunately, it is incomparable at all… A real shame.

A delightful Portuguese experience in Amsterdam!!

If you've ever been to a "Tasca" in Portugal, you'll recognize the typical menu. Everything is just like in Portugal... and it tastes really good too!

If you're in Amsterdam, you MUST GO! The food is excellent, from meat to fish. My partner and I dined here just two nights and had a great time! Thanks to Saverio, an Italian guy who welcomed us even without a reservation. If we return to Amsterdam, we'll definitely return! Well done, well done!

Everything was delicious. The main courses had a slight salt problem; they might seem a bit salty, but that's probably how it's supposed to be. Large portions, friendly service. In short, everything was delicious and definitely worth trying. The prices are normal for such large portions.

Great portuguese food at Rembrandtplein! Came in with a group of seven on a Thursday evening and got a table inside. Had a variety of starters and mains as well as some bottles of white wine. All food was really tasty. The fish (seabream) was a highlight. The service was kind and welcoming!

Very cozy spot, very friendly staff. However, there was a lot of olive oil in the bacalhau a bras I ordered. I was given the leftovers to take home; there was just a puddle of oil in the fridge that had leaked through the container and plastic bag. The rest of the food was really delicious, as was my partner's main course.

Best Portuguese food in the country probably. Would commit a minor crime for their bolinhas de alheira (so good we didn't wait for a picture) and fried anchovies.

I had such a lovely experience enjoying traditional Portuguese cuisine here. Every dish was delicious and memorable, and I was especially impressed by the variety of seafood dishes. Everything felt full of flavor and character, making it a wonderful introduction to Portuguese food. The staff were also incredibly kind and welcoming. The desserts were delicious as well, and I loved the charming presentation— even the plates were beautiful and full of personality. The food was spectacular. The setting was great for a romantic dinner date. We ordered a starter salad with squid. And our main course was the lamb and sea fruit rice. The service was great and the food was served within no time.

We had a lovely dinner for two yesterday afternoon; top dishes to start with and an amazing chicken as the main course. The cheese for dessert was excellent. Naturally, a delicious wine to go with it (rosé) and a Muscat wine with dessert. A fantastic afternoon, highly recommended! Petra and Martin

It had been a while since my friend and I visited this restaurant, but unfortunately, we still remember the experience for the wrong reasons. We ordered two starters, including the chicken neck, two main courses, including the octopus with potatoes, as well as desserts and wine. The chicken neck had a very strong and unusual smell and flavour, which I personally could not enjoy. As the dish had been recommended by the waiter, I mentioned this to him. He simply replied that some people do not like it. I accepted that it might be a matter of personal preference, especially as my friend did not mind the dish as much. However, the octopus in the main course had an unpleasant smell and taste that reminded us of urine. The potatoes were fine, but after trying the octopus several times, we were both certain that the smell was coming from it. We raised the issue with the waiter, but he did not check the dish or offer any explanation or solution. Instead, he suggested that perhaps we were simply not used to it. As two Asian women who have eaten octopus many times before, we found this response dismissive and uncomfortable. Overall, we were disappointed not only by the food, but also by how our concerns were handled. Unfortunately, we did not enjoy our visit.

Run away from this as fast and urgently as you can. If you call this Portuguese cuisine, then this is a disgrace to Portugal. Zero quality for the prices charged. NEVER AGAIN.

In Amsterdam, on a side street off Rembrandtplein. Had a delicious meal in a canteen-style establishment.... Incredibly large portions according to the guys, in keeping with Portuguese custom... next time I would stick to a starter and my table companions to a main course..

Excellent food and service. The chicken was so fresh and nicely done that it is still so juicy. Staff came to check on us from time to time. Lovely with nice chill jazz. Love the tableware too!

The welcome was warm, but the food disappointed us. The fried anchovies were overcooked, the shrimp croquette very bland (frozen), and served without garnish. Chicken piri-piri and octopus as main courses were OK, but the bean stew tasted like nothing (even though it cost 27.50 euros). In short: poor value for money.

I really want to rate this place better because the food is really nice, but the service failed the restaurant this time. If I could I would give a minus rating on service. The waiter did not have the slightest interest to listen to the order - we first tried to order a starter, to which he dismissed us and said he is doing drinks first, then brought a starter my wife and I were discussing amongst ourselves but did not order. Luckily we confirmed the mains order, as he had this wrong as wel. For mains my wife ordered two starters and I the chicken, clearly stating that we wanted everything to be served at the same time. He then brought her order, leaving me awkwardly waiting until she was almost done. When we asked the waiter when my order was coming, his response was “I thought there was no space on the table…” - the space in front of me was clearly empty. With our question about my mains, he tried to remove the food my wife was clearly still busy with. Our second order of drinks never showed up either and with that we decided it was maybe better to leave and have dessert somewhere else.

Very mid experience. Not bad but not good. Bifana was quite dry and tasteless, far from expectation. Service was also quite rushy and loud between themselves. Portuguese themed restaurant but only music playing was reggae, I don't think that it matches.

Seafoods are amazing - rest is okay.

Food isn’t bad at all, but not great either. Most other tables seem to have ordered the chicken, so I imagine they’re great for that. The rest is average. Service on the other hand was subpar. Rushed to order, being brought the mains when we still had the starters on the table, but then we waited for 45 mins with our dirty plates and empty drinks before being asked if we wanted a dessert. They’re nice enough though, just not attentive.

We had a super delicious meal; we sat outside on the terrace. A tip from Flip: order a starter because the portions are substantial!

The staff were friendly and helpful They gave us a run down of the specials on the Menu. The food was absolutely delicious a day authentic 😋. I had an Octopus salad for dntree and the fish of the day. The portions are very generous.

Free sparkling water is really nice

The food was so good that we ended up ordering enough for 3 people between the 2 of us just so we try more. Best prawns I've had anywhere. Everything was very generous in its portion. Totally authentic. Busy but efficient service. Would come back here any day!

Our experience at Portugalia Tasca was absolutely amazing; the food was incredibly delicious! The place is quite busy but spotlessly clean. I’d highly recommend making a reservation before you go. Despite the crowd, the service was amazingly fast and flawless. For the level of service and food quality provided, the prices are very reasonable.

The waiters are short-tempered and need to provide better customer service

Everything was amazing! Food was spot on. Service was attentive, polite and funny. We had a very nice evening. Plus they were the first restaurant in Amsterdam that didn't push for a review. So i am leaving this completely voluntarily. Honestly one of the best places in the city i have tried so far.

In Amsterdam's tourist spot (Rembrandtplein), there is a particularly nice Portuguese restaurant with delicious dishes. We were seated there surrounded only by Portuguese people, but were wonderfully spoiled with delicious appetizers and excellent wine for a very reasonable price.

To be truly Portuguese, you have to have Douro wines, properly speaking! It is undoubtedly that spot in Amsterdam that connects with Portugal, but there will always be that "but" missing, for those who are true Portuguese!

This place definitely worths going to, especially when you cannot fly to Portugal but miss the food. Soft and tasty octopus with potatoes, delicious pastel de nata. Quick service, good employees.

The food is wonderful typically portuguese with a lot of flavour, the reason not for the 5 stars is the service, please guys talk with your team because some of the staff don’t really care to work there and makes the service slow especially on Portugalia churrasco there is one of the girl staff that te reception was horrible we seated and she just asked ok what will you want without make a introduction how it worked and acting like we are doing a favour to be there

Great option for Portuguese cuisine in Amsterdam! I recommend a visit for the food and service. I can't comment on the interior as it was very crowded and I had to sit outside, but even so, it was great!

I guess not the first review that the waiter here is racist. Came here as a local friend recommended. We walked in on a Monday late lunch around 2pm. It was pretty empty, only 2 tables were occupied. We asked to sit at the corner where it's a table set up for 4. The waiter said: no, you can only sit at small table for 2. We: but it's quite empty. The waiter responded - it can fill up quickly. Like, what? Whatever! We left due to the rudeness. Our friend (the local) called back later asking why the waiter did that to 2 Asian girls. The waiter responded - well if you were here with them, they can sit at bigger table. How ridiculous for people acting this way in 2026? Go somewhere else don't waste your money and time on disrespectable business.

Great food, great service, great place!

From the moment you're seated, extremely close to other guests as everyone gets packed like sardines, you get shuffled from waiter to waiter, one more indifferent than the next one. No good afternoon, no are you enjoying your meal, no "would you like something else?", I honestly had better service at McDonald's. The food took very long to arrive (I think it was easily 40min after receiving my drink), the taste was average and the ingredients didn't all seem fresh (the potatoes were particularly dark on the inside in some spots). I'm sure the business can survive on tourism alone, but I wouldn't return nor recommend it.

Authentic Portuguese restaurant!

The food is wonderful, but the service leaves much to be desired. The waiters are rude and impolite. If they changed the staff, the place would be great.

Underwhelming food and horrible experience! We went on a Friday for lunch. It was completely empty. Should have been a sign The chorizo was ok but the broa (corn bread) was just old and hard. The beet salad was so so. The goat cheese had no flavour We only had those 2 plates and cut short our visit. The waiter greatest us in English and seems niced until we spoke Portuguese amongst ourselves. We have a Brazilian accent and this Portuguese waiter completely changed how he treated us. He turned rude and just plain aggressive. Putting an order was an ordeal, asking questions about the food went without a proper answer and just gave us faces and complaints Never thought I would see such a behavior from a staff on a restaurant in Holland

Terrible service. Only one waiter, extremely rude, it seemed like we were asking for a favor. Really rude. Don't come unless you want to be mistreated. We didn't even order the main course, we gave up, we just had the appetizers, I'm not going to pay to be mistreated. If you don't want to deal with the public, go do something else. The guy will even be happy if nobody else comes to the restaurant, because then he won't have to work. I suspect he treated us worse because we were Brazilian, because before I found out he wasn't so rude. Lamentable. A shame, because the appetizer was good.

Good food, good service however my order was now and then bit forgotten, therefore took extra time of waiting. But they do there best to accommodate the client. Yes definitely I recommend this place. I definitely don't plan on ever returning to this place. The staff provided terrible service and attention. That's the main reason I won't be coming back. The second reason is that I was having dinner and, just a few meters away from the kitchen, there was a garbage container infested with rats. I find this extremely dangerous and unhygienic, especially since it's right next to the restaurant's kitchen, where the door is usually open.

Decent Portuguese place in a commercial part of town. Staff seem all Portuguese and the food tastes authentic. Good place for a quick dinner before going out.

We came here for lunch during our last day in Amsterdam. The food was very flavourful and delicious also they have good size portions. The guys serving are very friendly and kind always available. If you like spicy try their chicken piri piri on the other hand if you prefer fish try their sardines. Overall everything we have tried was very good and hope to come here soon .

Great seafood, grilled octopus is super tender!

The taste was impeccable, though it didn't quite suit my palate, like not so special that I’ll revisit. The ambiance was truly excellent, very relaxing, and the service was warm and welcoming. The meat and seafood were also very fresh, and I can tell the olive oil used is of high quality. The roasted chicken is a bit salty from my taste, bread with butter is nothing special.

The atmosphere, the taste, and the service were all superb! This was the most truly delicious and luxurious meal I've had since coming to the Netherlands! Thank you!
