Restaurant Dona is a charming little restaurant nestled on a corner street near Kinkerstraat, exuding cozy vibes reminiscent of a traditional Portuguese taberna. The service is absolutely fantastic—super friendly, attentive, and welcoming. The menu offers no choices, but the dishes are thoughtfully selected and complement each other well. Be sure to inform the restaurant in advance of any allergies or dietary restrictions, such as pregnancy, as this quickly can become a bit challenging. Seafood plays a significant role in Portuguese cuisine and everything here feels very fresh. The fish was is a highlight for us, along with the gazpacho starter and dessert. Overall, Dona is highly recommended for an authentic and delightful dining experience.

The open kitchen allows guests to witness the culinary show in progress — a true delight for both the eyes and the soul. Watching the chef and the head of service in action, both with warm, welcoming smiles, makes the experience even more engaging. The dishes arrive at the table accompanied by a heartfelt and detailed explanation of each ingredient and the preparation process — a level of attention that truly makes a difference. And the food? Dona is a fantastic restaurant that combines the cozy, homely feeling with excellent quality food. The small scale makes it a lot more intimate but no less cozy. The service ensures that you not only get your courses on time, but also know the stories behind these traditional dishes. And the food of course. Combined with the exclusive Portuguese wine (very tasty by the way), one of the best restaurants I have been to in a long time. When the menu changes I will definitely be back. If you like good food and don't like the extreme crowds of large restaurants, go here!

The food was genuinely great, but the service left me with a strange feeling. For some reason, the waiter focused almost entirely on my partner, barely acknowledging me throughout the meal. Even when I wanted a coffee, he only asked her and left when she said no, without giving me a chance to respond. She felt awkward too and later said she couldn’t understand why she was being singled out either. It was especially bad considering it was my birthday. To be fair he did wish me a happy birthday but it felt like if it hadn’t been for that, he might not have spoken to me at all. Also, at times, some nearby tables were being very loud, which made it hard to fully relax. Sadly, it all took away from what could have been an otherwise great experience. The waiter’s behavior might have been unintentional — I don’t know — but if it wasn't I’d be interested to understand what happened.

Muito obrigada Diogo & Sjors… We entered the restaurant and a smile filled our faces and hearts. A little corner of Portugal in Amsterdam. Ana Moura came out of the speakers with Andorinhas and we felt like we were in Portugal. The meal started with amazing Pasteís de Bacalhau and after the first bite we knew we were in the right place. You could taste the love for food and tradition in every single course and the combination of the chef and cozinheiro Diogo was enchanting with every bite. The perfect combination of traditional and modern. The entire menu was a true joy for our Portuguese hearts right up to the last bite. Obrigado por esta noite portuguesa e até breve.

Incredible food, everything had the perfect taste and balance, with beautiful story of heritage and memory behind each dish. An experience of slow dinner that I missed in these times where most restaurants only let you sit down for 90 mins, and force you to eat dish after dish without a stop. The setting is so cozy and beautiful that you want to stay even after having paid. Hats off to the two owners for making this possible!

Very cozy atmosphere (it really looks like to be in grandma’s house). Friendly staff that pay attention to details: I appreciate a lot the fact that the waiter poured a small taste of wine for both of us instead of only the person that ordered the wine. Food is also good. However do not expect the classic Portuguese restaurant, this is more fancy and fine. And crockery is very cute! Overall was a positive experience.

Portuguese inspired restaurant, with a cozy, home vibe to it, you can sit inside or outside (great spot for sunlight), or at their bar. Food was amazing, a total immersion into authentic Portuguese flavors and textures. Their 4 courses menu takes through a really nice gastronomic experience. They serve the food in manner that you are able to share it with your party. I recommend you to ask for the right wine to pair with the food as this will bring the whole experience to the next level. The service was very friendly and personal, they take their time to come to your table explain the menu, recommend wines, serve the food in a proper manner, and chit chat for a little while. The overall experience was great!!

Very good restaurant! Small and cozy, with a lot of attention for the guest. A 4-course menu with authentic Portuguese cuisine is served. And not the tapas, but really the Portuguese dishes. This can be expanded with delicious small snacks, and they also have a very extensive wine list full of beautiful Portuguese wines. Highly recommended! Often fully booked, so book well in advance!

Really nice, cozy vibe in the restaurant. You will be one of only 10 tables, making the experience quite intimate. Wine selection was also great and it is about time a new cuisine has been brought into the Amsterdam food scene.

A casually styled Portuguese restaurant serving traditional dishes through a set menu. While I can understand Portuguese guests feeling at home with the food, it leaned too heavily into a home-cooked style for my taste. Additionally, the wait between courses was excessively long, with nothing served in between except wine. If we hadn’t ordered an additional appetizers alongside the set menu, we would have left feeling hungry. After two hours, we felt the need to ask for the food to be expedited.

Amazingly comforting and cozy atmosphere and food. A place with a story to tell, translating it into their food. You can tell it’s people doing it from a passion and those spots aren’t always easy to find these days. Compliments to the chef and the amazing host for the night, definitely a recommend if you’re looking for a wholesome night out with food that isn’t just the ordinary!

What a nice place this is. It feels like you are having dinner with friends who have just returned from Portugal. Sjors is a warm and enthusiastic host who can talk passionately about the dishes and wines. The pork belly cooked for 12 hours was especially fantastic. We will definitely come back!

The best restaurant in Amsterdam. The best Portuguese restaurant in town—better than most restaurants in Portugal! As a Portuguese person, I think I had the best pastéis de bacalhau here. The entire menu was absolutely delicious, and I can’t wait to try the new one. Congratulations to the chef, not only for the incredible food but also for the decor and ambiance.

Entering Dona is to be welcomed as if we were arriving at our grandparents' house, the joy and affection with which we are welcomed is something spontaneous and unique to someone who loves what they do. The welcoming atmosphere, good Portuguese music that we ended up humming while toasting the excellent wine options presented from all over the country. The food? With each dish a new pleasant surprise, made with love and a perfect balance of textures and flavors that only grandmothers seemed to have the gift for, but Diogo has it and puts that gift in each dish! An incredible discovery for anyone visiting for the first time, and certainly a place to visit again and again!

The food is divine, the atmosphere is welcoming, the music was perfectly framed, and Sjors' attention and friendliness elevate this experience even further. We just came back from a wonderful holiday in Portugal and wanted to extend the holiday vibes with a final Portuguese dinner in Amsterdam; Restaurante Dona exceeded our expectations! All of the courses have an amazingly well balanced flavor profile and were so enjoyable, there was no bad dish. The bacalhau and pastel de nata are amongst the best we've had in the past weeks. You can tell that the owners definitely have a passion for food and hospitality!

Very nice (North) Portuguese restaurant with a basic terrace on the street. There is a fixed 4-course menu and snacks cards. Great wine and excellent service. Each dish comes with a beautiful story about ingredients, preparation method and Portuguese family traditions. Recommended

Gem! If you want to eat beautiful dishes with the right amount of dept and soul. This is the spot! I still can't get over the fact that they are capable of making a simple salad that is clean and complementary beside the so flavoured and surprising main dish. The service is spot on, not too much attention and not too little. Passionate, kind and proud owners. I'm happy to discover this place. And the menu changes by the weather, mood and season :) Oh if you are looking for a big portion size, you can add more side dishes or just book somewhere else.

If I had to decribe Restaurante Dona in just two words I would go with heartwarming and authentic. My wife and I have ordered Chef Menus pretty much in every Amsterdam restaurant where they are offered, and I have to say Dona is one of our best experiences so far. Every dish there had two things that are both so rare: a feeling like it’s something homemade, and a taste that’s creative, intreguing and unique. Wow, just wow! With only two co-owners working there you can feel their passion, love and positive energy and all of this makes this place truly inrecrible. Also, kudos to an amazing logo design for Dona. We’ve been told it was designed by one of the Portuguese designers. Amazing job. Definitely recommend for good vibes and super amazing food this summer!

Dona concepts just works. All dishes from back home, all with a little modern twist elevated slightly and all delicious with a few that stand out since you get a course meal. I sat for 2 hours and time just went like a breeze, this place is perfect for a slow end of a summer day. Service was very attentive, but it must be said, don't come here if you are in a rush and prepare to open up your wallet. It was steep, but given the service and food quality, worth it.

The prawns were some of the best we had tasted in the Netherlands, and the wine was excellent. The chef also took into account our dietary requirements. We were served by one of the owners, and this was an experience in itself. Highly recommended!

What a wonderful restaurant! It's a great concept, you also notice that it is inspired by their grandmothers. There is a very old typewriter with the menu. Sjors and Diogo are very hospitable. There was no wine pairing on the menu, but Sjors came up with it for us on the spot. Super! Highly recommended if you are in Oud-West!!

We went to Dona today and discovered that the menu is unique, but some people didn't eat fish, we tried to order for part of the group, they didn't accept it and the chef said that if we weren't going to order for everyone we should vacate the table
