Had a wonderful evening at this restaurant. Authentic portugese food. I recommend the frango piri piri!

Chicken was dry and ribs were tough. Beer taps had not been cleaned. Aweful all round

A warm welcome even late at night... hearty meals and a good atmosphere...

We made a reservation at this restaurant on November 26 at 11:20 AM for November 27 at 12:30 PM. Google showed that the restaurant was open from 12 PM to 11 PM. We even received a confirmation email and a reminder email, so we assumed everything was in order. However, when we arrived, the restaurant was closed. The gentleman who was there informed us that they only opened at 4 PM. Despite having our reservation well in advance, they chose not to notify us that they would be closed for lunch. As a result, we made an unnecessary trip and wasted our time due to the restaurant’s lack of communication. A very disappointing experience.

Definitely not recommended, a tourist trap!

The Bacalhau à Brás tasted more like scrambled eggs with olives than anything else, besides being incredibly bland. I also had a caldo verde which was acceptable. Perhaps other dishes are better, but if they don't know how to make a proper Bacalhau à Brás, I wouldn't risk ordering again.

It didn't get 5 stars because of the Benfica pennant; otherwise, it would have. 😂

I ordered the Naco na pedra, it was filling & delicious. Highly recommend this place!

An absolutely wonderful experience at Restaurant De Portugees! The food was fresh and bursting with authentic Portuguese flavors especially the grilled sardines and the codfish croquettes, which were simply delicious. Portions were generous and beautifully presented. The staff were warm, attentive, and made us feel truly welcome. The cozy atmosphere added to the charm, making it the perfect place for both a relaxed dinner and a special night out. Highly recommend this restaurant I’ll definitely be coming back!

The closest thing to nandos you will probably find in Amsterdam and the food was lovely, the chicken is relatively small so not big enough to share. (You won't want to share anyway) 😅

This is an unexpected treasure in the heart of Amsterdam. Becausr I have lived here nearly 15 years, I am HIGHLY skeptical of restaurants in the genersl “tourist atea”. I was several months ago and tried a baccalau variation similar to one my Portuguese grandmothet made - she would have proud to claim it as her very own. On this 2nd visit. I had the cataplana. This dish alone should hive this place a Michelen star (or 2)! The service is outstanding. The location (10 mins walk from Amsterdam Centraal) is perfect. I will be back and I hope soon!!!

Not recommended! We were looking forward to delicious Portuguese food and got frozen calamari made from pressed fish with a bad salad... The vegetarian lasagna consisted mostly of cheese, so it was hard to resist after a few bites... And the prices were considerable.

I must say that before getting a table there , my wife was more than sceptical, should listen to her.. this restaurant is definitely not an odd to Portuguese cuisine. We ordered sardines, tuna steak and snook… overcooked, dry and oily. Vegetables were disgusting,they have been dip in oil for decades and re cooked . Products are not fresh , not spicy, no taste . Everything was confirmed when I went downstairs to the wc and saw the plastics box with the vegetables ready to be recooked and the brand of the oil used made me cry. It’s a ripe off , nothing to do with Portuguese food, I recommend Arca or Portugalia tasca if you want love and taste.Otherwise the staff is very friendly,doing their best, very kind.

We had a delicious meal here in a Portuguese atmosphere. An oasis of calm in the bustling Zeedijk neighborhood. Highly recommended!

We were really disappointed because there are so many great reviews here.. The waitress was sweet but brought a different bottle of wine then we ordered without mentioning it. We didn’t want to complain and paid the extra price. The starter (sausage) was nice but the Dorade was really really dry (I saw it waiting on the grill for a really long time before serving) and the bacalhau Lagareiro was just a lot of fat (cheese) and lacked a lot of flavor. It’s a shame because it smells really good in there and a good restaurant would be great in this area, but we’re definitely never coming back.

I don't have high expectations of a restaurant on the Zeedijk but De Portugese was a big surprise. The staff is friendly and helpful but they didn't understand that the menu is 3-lingual The Bacelhau a Bras had 1 black and the rest green olives but was well prepared and very tasty. The prices were also reasonable for this place.

The food is very delicious and very generously portioned. We ordered the mixed grill for 1 and seafood stew for 1 - both are almost enough food for 2! We worked very hard to not waste food. We had similar food in Lisbon and this is very close!

A Portuguese tourist might be unfair in their assessment of the food, but they give you a taste of our fine dining. As for the service and atmosphere... TOP!!!

A restaurant located in the Red Light District, but once inside, it's as if we were in Portugal. The restaurant's decor is very pretty and reminds us of Portugal. The service is fast and very friendly. The food was delicious and the prices are more than reasonable. We will be back.

I went in and was directed to the counter to have coffee. I asked to go to the bathroom. To my surprise, I had to go down a staircase where you could see the kitchen, sorry, not the kitchen. A trash can on the floor. Trash in the sink. Grease on the stoves and counters. Potato peels on the floor. The uniforms of those who work in the kitchen are dirty. You're ashamed of yourself for giving this place 5 stars. I'd rather eat out of a dog's bowl than eat in this place... As for the cafe staff. Praise be to God.

Very nice restaurant, the food is the best I have eaten in Amsterdam, freshly cooked, authentic Portuguese cuisine. Extremely friendly staff. The best leg of lamb I have ever eaten, so tender and delicately seasoned. The starter of shrimps in white wine sauce with garlic was also perfect. If you want to eat well in Amsterdam, not fast food, please go to the Portuguese.

A long time waiting for the food, the codfish cakes were only with potatoes, the steak was no good, the wine came on foot from Portugal and went bad on the journey as it was spoiled and the kitchen was unhygienic where you have to go to the bathroom, I do not recommend it.

Place looked busy so we stopped in for an amazing meal. The serving size was substantial, flavor was a magical experience for the palette. The food is fresh so be prepared to wait about 20 min for it to be delivered. We had number 5, 10, 23 on the menu and all were well with in an reasonable cost. Thank you for an amazing meal

To flee! I ate a dish that was supposed to be a bitoque but it was without ham and sauce, dry basmati rice instead of Portuguese rice and strong meat that must have been old veal! And the waitresses who criticize customers in Portuguese without knowing that we understand Portuguese…

Since we can't go out for Portuguese food too often due to a lack of options, our decision was made quite quickly: we'll go here. We have no regrets whatsoever. The food was delicious, the portions were extremely generous and the service was very friendly and efficient. Contrary to what other reviews say, the toilets are clean and walking through the kitchen isn't a horror either. Such statements have no basis whatsoever. We'd love to come back. Obrigado!

Choose this as the partner is Portuguese . She tells me the food was authentic and like she would see at home. The decor is typically Portuguese with art on the walls and murals. The only comment was the staff did not speak Portuguese at the time of our visit.

Prices are above average, but it's centrally located, so you can understand why. The place is quite welcoming, but the service is poor and the waitresses are unprofessional, meaning they like to talk about customers and others as if no one is listening.
