The smell of stale grease is awful, everything is very old and neglected, nobody speaks Portuguese, only Portuguese in name.

Good food, fair prices, and friendly service seal the deal. However, the atmosphere is a bit of a downside. The playlist is quite old and paints a gloomy picture of Portugal (also, leaving Christmas decorations up permanently felt a bit odd). Pale Lisbon blue accent lighting and soft, warm lights would match the beautiful wall azulejos much better than the current red choice. Note: The food was good, though not completely authentic. The caldo verde tasted mostly right, but it lacked real Portuguese chouriço. The bacalhau à brás was also good, but the kitchen could definitely keep a Portuguese eye there to check on the potatoes - it need to be fried and slightly crispy. That said, I would totally recommend this place to anyone looking for a good dinner in Amsterdam.

Food is good our waiter Hugo was very attentive and knowledgeable.

Good Portuguese food, good options

The cod dishes were excellent, from the pastries to the Brazilian-style cod. The orange pudding dessert was superb. Good wine from the Alentejo region. Good service and good prices.

Excellent place on Zeedijk Street. The staff is very friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home. The food is delicious and the atmosphere is very cozy. Highly recommended!

Service was not perfect due to one person handling all the non-kitchen tasks, but it was still quite good. The food on the other hand was outstanding. We got the cataplana for two and it was jam packed with loads of perfectly cooked seafood in a delicious broth. It took us right back to our time in the Algarve of southern Portugal. Highly recommend this restaurant and the food.

A good restaurant for those who want to satisfy their craving for a good national snack. The wine list could have more variety, especially from the Douro region, which is one of the oldest demarcated wine regions in the world, if not the oldest!

Good food! But less vegetarian options!

Grilled chicken and piri-piri chicken dishes were dry. The accompanying salad was bland because it was served without dressing. The veggie burger was served without a bun and tasted bland. Too bad, because the place is inviting. The staff was considerate when we asked to turn down the music.

The food is very good, like in Portugal but in Holland.

The Alentejo-style meat was very well served, and the sauce was excellent. I didn't order the cod à brás because they "couldn't" make it with french fries, and for me, cod à brás isn't good cod à brás if it's made with shoestring potatoes. We didn't like that when we arrived, the employee told us to sit "over there," when there were only 5 customers in the restaurant. We really liked the tiles related to Portugal and the decoration, but, here's a suggestion: I think a small renovation and decoration, taking advantage of what they already have, would attract many more customers. Great Portuguese music that allowed us to ease our homesickness.

I'm only giving it one star because the waitress is super friendly and even though she doesn't speak 100% Portuguese, she's very polite and always repeats orders to make sure she doesn't make a mistake. To go to the bathroom I had to go through the kitchen, which was disgusting… I felt like getting up and leaving. The food wasn't good either. The salad tasted like olives (I don't know where they came from) and my husband's fish soup was so thick that he had to add water to be able to eat it. First and last time I come. I don't recommend it.

I am Portuguese, and Portuguese restaurants should be the embassy of Portuguese gastronomy in other countries. While on vacation in Amsterdam, I saw a restaurant and thought I could ease my homesickness a bit. I ordered a cataplana, and to my surprise, it contained small cubes of salmon and two pieces of tuna. At €65, there should be more variety of fish. My son ordered a bitoque, a dry, tasteless steak. Huge disappointment. I don't recommend it to anyone; it's a huge shame that they call this establishment a Portuguese restaurant. The owner didn't even have the courage to come to the table and apologize for the mess they served. The only advice I have to give is that the best thing they can do is close the restaurant.

Amazing food and a welcome reminder of home for my wife

A disgrace to the Portuguese. This restaurant does nothing to honor Portuguese food. The meat was tough and tasteless. The olive oil and vinegar bottles on the table were smelly and had no label whatsoever. The place was dirty. Going up the stairs to the upper floor, we found dirty dishes, dustpans, and brooms that were clearly visible. The old AC didn't work. The friendliness is limited.

As a Portuguese, the food was good, not amazing but not bad. Definitely over priced, as I never before paid 8€ for one serving of bread and butter. The music was Portuguese but not the kind you’d like to hear in a restaurant. Has the potential to be great. I’m bit disappointed by the representation of Portuguese food abroad.

Friendly staff who really try their best. Our waitress spoke English, but not very well. With some patience and pointing at the menu, everything worked out fine. I had the sea bream. Deliciously prepared and I didn't have to wait long. The lamb and steak for my table companions were also delicious. Good portions too. Point of attention: if someone at the table is still eating, do not clear the other plates in advance. Located on a busy and lively street. There is a great atmosphere. The toilets are downstairs (just a flight of stairs) and on the way there you pass the kitchen. Everything looks clean and hygienic.

The employee kept playing on his phone until we called him over to place our order. The staff didn't speak Portuguese. We ordered shrimp, but they didn't offer us bread. We ordered it separately and paid 7.80 for two rolls.

It’s not a Portuguese restaurant. The waiter is very nice but I believe this restaurant has been sold and it’s not Portuguese owned or Portuguese food.

This is the third time I've come to have dinner here, always at the same time of year. Unfortunately, this last time was very disappointing, and I even left the restaurant disappointed. I ordered fish soup, and it was just broth and pieces of fish. I didn't even order any other dishes. My boyfriend chose caldo verde (kale soup), which tasted like shrimp to him, and also roast lamb served with tasteless rice and raw french fries. The staff don't have much knowledge of the menu or what the dishes consist of. I couldn't tell if the management has really changed, since we were always served by a Portuguese family and very, very well taken care of, which is why we always returned to the same restaurant. Unfortunately, there won't be a fourth time.

A warm welcome even late at night... hearty meals and a good atmosphere...

We made a reservation at this restaurant on November 26 at 11:20 AM for November 27 at 12:30 PM. Google showed that the restaurant was open from 12 PM to 11 PM. We even received a confirmation email and a reminder email, so we assumed everything was in order. However, when we arrived, the restaurant was closed. The gentleman who was there informed us that they only opened at 4 PM. Despite having our reservation well in advance, they chose not to notify us that they would be closed for lunch. As a result, we made an unnecessary trip and wasted our time due to the restaurant’s lack of communication. A very disappointing experience.

Definitely not recommended, a tourist trap!

The Bacalhau à Brás tasted more like scrambled eggs with olives than anything else, besides being incredibly bland. I also had a caldo verde which was acceptable. Perhaps other dishes are better, but if they don't know how to make a proper Bacalhau à Brás, I wouldn't risk ordering again.

It didn't get 5 stars because of the Benfica pennant; otherwise, it would have. 😂

The closest thing to nandos you will probably find in Amsterdam and the food was lovely, the chicken is relatively small so not big enough to share. (You won't want to share anyway) 😅

This is an unexpected treasure in the heart of Amsterdam. Becausr I have lived here nearly 15 years, I am HIGHLY skeptical of restaurants in the genersl “tourist atea”. I was several months ago and tried a baccalau variation similar to one my Portuguese grandmothet made - she would have proud to claim it as her very own. On this 2nd visit. I had the cataplana. This dish alone should hive this place a Michelen star (or 2)! The service is outstanding. The location (10 mins walk from Amsterdam Centraal) is perfect. I will be back and I hope soon!!!

Not recommended! We were looking forward to delicious Portuguese food and got frozen calamari made from pressed fish with a bad salad... The vegetarian lasagna consisted mostly of cheese, so it was hard to resist after a few bites... And the prices were considerable.

I must say that before getting a table there , my wife was more than sceptical, should listen to her.. this restaurant is definitely not an odd to Portuguese cuisine. We ordered sardines, tuna steak and snook… overcooked, dry and oily. Vegetables were disgusting,they have been dip in oil for decades and re cooked . Products are not fresh , not spicy, no taste . Everything was confirmed when I went downstairs to the wc and saw the plastics box with the vegetables ready to be recooked and the brand of the oil used made me cry. It’s a ripe off , nothing to do with Portuguese food, I recommend Arca or Portugalia tasca if you want love and taste.Otherwise the staff is very friendly,doing their best, very kind.
