Ranchi Amsterdam in Oude Pijp

The sandos were delicious! We ordered the beef and the chicken sandos, and found the chicken to be especially tasty and juicy. They also each came with a decent serving of lettuce. The optional add-on of sriracha sauce is recommended for extra taste. The loaded fries and waffle fries were both also huge in portion size, and the waffles fries were definitely the best we have had anywhere! They were perfectly fried and well balanced in terms of fluffiness and crispiness. The service was also warm, friendly and prompt!

No vegan options. Unsure how the previous reviews mentioned this, and the restaurant replied back without correcting them.

Ranchi is tucked away behind the stalls at the Albert Cuyp Market. It's quickly become one of my favorite lunch spots in the Pijp. The menu may not be extensive, but all the options are excellent! The staff are hardworking and friendly. During busy times, you might have to wait a bit, but... totally worth it ❤️

WOW! Best Katsu I’ve had. The best part about the sandwich the simplicity, they didn’t try to do too much. Would recommend to anybody looking for something quick and (relatively) light.

We had the chicken katsu sandwich. We waited for about 10-15 min. The sandwich was very delicious, however a bit pricey. I would recommend it .

Food was ok, i found price and amount good. But flavor was a bit blend. Really hoped to like it more as presentation & service was good. But sadly didn’t really hit the mark.

BEST WAFFLE FRIES EVER 🍟 We were headed somewhere else for lunch but were intrigued enough walking by to go here instead! The sandwiches we got were both yummy but we thought could use a little more kick. The waffles fries however were incredible — well-seasoned, so crispy, delicious dipping sauce. We also loved the house-made ginger lemonade. A bit pricey, but will definitely be back on our next trip!

Delicious sando with chicken or pork. I also recommend the vegetable croquettes and the waffle fries, which are incredibly crunchy! They're delicious and filling!

The staff were lovely, especially the guy at the coffee machine. He gave me a glass of water before I’d even ordered because I had a cough. Our order was made quickly and the food was delicious. I loved the katsu Sando and the waffles fries with siracha were perfectly cooked. I def recommend this place.

I used to be a big fan of this place, sadly things have changed. It seems they’ve become too focused on delivery orders to have good service anymore. We came in person on Saturday to get our normal order of chicken chunks and waffle fries. The first issue with our order was that the chicken was clearly the leftover side pieces from the tonkatsu sandwiches and there was only one piece of whole chicken. Second, there was no sauce included with the chicken which we almost always received with every order we had in the past. Third, we had received the wrong fries order. I had not confirmed with the waiter but I said an order of fries. We wanted the waffle fries but got the loaded fries which we didn't want.

Super yummy sandos 🫶🏼 Everything was fresh and tasty. The big portion of waffle fries was also surprising 😅 Highly recommend for a great lunch :)

Personally a bit on the expensive side. The chicken cutlet itself was very tasty. Could have had a bit more sauce. I think it was not Japanese bread, or well Japanese flavor, but just white bread. In Japan this was much softer and you didn't have a bread crust. Friendly staff, helped quickly, served quickly.

Not only were the sandwiches excellent, the service was friendly and overall fantastic. We mentioned we were biking around and got recommendations on where to go sightseeing next. Can’t praise the friendliness and food enough.

Ranchi is awesome!! The food’s great (waffle fries are a must) and the drinks are what really stand out. They make their own teas, lemonades, and tapache—and you can taste the effort that goes into them. Staff is really friendly and attentive

Delicious! I haven't had a good Katso Sando since my favourite place in London closed, and this really hit the spot. Plenty of options, with vegetarian versions too (the second picture is fake chicken). Strongly reccommended.

We had the beef and the plant-based chicken. The breading was completely detached from the meet. The place is not really cozy or welcoming.

I've been wanting to try this chicken katsu for a long time. The sandwich was very tasty, but Jesus... what small portions. I'm really not a big eater, but I was still hungry after this. For 12.75 you actually get 6 strips of white bread with the katsu in between (approx. 5cm wide). For that price you expect to be more satisfied.

The food is low budget quality, the fried food comes out of old oil. The smell and the taste is not good. Will not go there anymore, bad quality

Great place for katsu sandos! Have been coming here for some years now! Found it by searching on Google for katsu sandwiches. Still great and they have a variety of sandwiches ranging from pork, to chicken, to egg salad.

First time I've tried a sandwich like this and sure won't be the last time ! The chicken one was really amazing! My wife had the tonkatsu which was really good too. The fermented pineapple drink was also from another planet. All in all an amazing lunch experience! If I wanted to complain about anything I'd say that I like my edamame beans warm but that's not really an issue to begin with. Service was fun and quick as well....

It’s ok for a tasty snack option. I found it a bit overpriced especially for the chicken. I think the chicken could have been more well done inside the breading. I will visit again to try the other options as well to be 100% objective :)

Really hit the spot, especially the egg and the katsu, get the waffle frys they're crunchy and come with a good sauce, potato salad tasty too 😋

The best sandwiches in Amsterdam!!!!!

We placed the delivery order at this restaurant, we ordered a Chicken katsu and the XO beef along with some potatoes and pieces of chicken. Everything was quite rich, just right and juicy. The only thing we didn't eat much of was the chicken because it was quite spicy, so if you're not a fan of spicy food, don't order it.

Delicious tasty sandwich and the lemonade was good as well. I was lucky enough to get to sit inside. Great place to spot for a bite of lunch.

Freaking delicious! Had the chicken sandwich. Def eat with the homemade siracha. Apparently the owners came up with this sandwich and perfected it during Covid. They started to sell the sandwich out of their apt and it became so popular that they opened a store front post Covid.

Nice place with delicious sandos (Japanese sandwiches). Wide range of Japanese and homemade soft drinks. And nice surprising desserts!

Tonkatsu Sando was great and makes a nice on the go lunch. I will go back again for the Tonkatsu. Unfortunately the tamago sando was bland on my visit and not authentic flavor wise. Staff were lovely.

Super average sandwich. Really nothing special to it: -wet bread -tough/not cirpsy tonkasu -not tasty. Its a shame because a katsu sando could and should be really good. Wont be coming back. Also to expensive for the quality you get.

Cute place with friendly staff The chicken katsu sandwich is pretty good, crispy chicken, cabbage and a delicious sauce - maybe nice to get the sauce on the side so the bread doesn’t get soggy & you can dip more into the sauce :-) The egg salad sandwich is okay, could use a bit more seasoning in my opinion

Food was delicious and staff was very friendly. We had some leftovers and one of the staff kindly packed it for us with some sauce too. There is not a lot of place to sit though.

We tried the Tonkatsu Sando, and overall, it was really good! The pork was fried perfectly, and while it’s not quite the authentic Japanese sandwich, it’s clearly their own twist on it, and it still tasted great. The only downside was that the sauce made the bread a bit soggy, but it didn’t take away too much from the overall flavor. A solid experience, and I’d definitely recommend giving it a try if you’re open to something a little different.

Rarely have I had such a delicious and juicy sandwich: Sando Chicken Katsu is absolutely recommended. Fresh ingredients, friendly service, relaxed atmosphere and fair prices are what define the location. I'd love to come back to try the other sandwiches. :)

I've been here a few times and the quality of the food is always good. Both katsu variants are quite filling and I can't decide my favourite between them. The shop itself has a nice and relaxed atmosphere so don't be afraid to dine in.

It was really tasty and also beautifully and neatly made! Quite expensive, but it was already full after 2 of the 3 sandwiches, so you get enough food in return.

It was absolutely fantastic. Great service and we got a table out in the street.

I ordered here and had to wait for over 2 hours to get my food only for it to be cold… I had the Katsu chicken and it was very dry. Really disappointed because I looked so forward to it. Maybe it was a bad day for the sandwich place, but im not sure if I should give this place another try.

A little restaurant on Albert Cuypstraat. It is kinda behind the stalls so you have to look for it. They have a fast service for good sandwiches at a reasonable, so a good place to have a quick lunch

The Katsu chicken sandwich was presented very well. The chicken was fresh and it was fried well. The bread reminded me of being back in Japan. The sauce was not quite the Japanese style I was expecting, and I wouldn't have minded a bit more of it. I liked the family atmosphere, and the team was fantastic. This was a very good sandwich overall and I will return to try the combo Katsu and Egg!

I ate a Chicken Katsu Sando and an Eggsalad Sando in Ranchi and I have to honestly say that the Chicken Katsu Sando wasn't convincing at all. Although the meat was really very good, I personally just missed something special. The sauce can be compared to a curry ketchup and the cabbage... well, nothing special for a 12 euro sandwich. The Eggsalad Sando was really delicious, especially the soft egg in the middle. That was really worth the 10 euros to me. The presentation of the food is really cool and the shop is very hip! The chicken katsu thing was probably just a matter of taste :)

Delicious sandwiches, they were prepared quite fast too. I had the ton katsu one which was good, but not as good as the beef version. Overall I recommend it for a quick and somewhat light bite/lunch.

Small Sando place in Albert cuyp. Both tried the chicken Katsu and the beef sando. Both were great. They’d lift their Sandos to the next level by adding fluffy toast bread instead of casino, it made the Sandos a bit small because of that. Other than that the taste is definitely there

Simple sandos that dont miss the mark. Both the chicken and the XO beef were simply but elegantly put. Quickly delivered. Induced a few ‘hallelujah’ moments.

Takes me back to my time in Japan. Truly authentic Japanese sandwiches. I tried the chicken katsu and tonkatsu sandwiches, they were both delicious and tasted just like the ones I had in Japan. Furthermore, the packaging is really nice and the staff is friendly. 10/10 would come back.

Food is really good. We ordered the Chicken Katsu sandwich and loaded fries. Chicken was so juicy in the sandwich and the loaded fries were filled with chicken pieces. Worth the money.

Fabulous sandwiches. The reviews are correct. I tried the chicken katsu and the egg salad sando, both delicious. The chicken is super juicy and the egg salad was just perfect with good flavors, not too “eggy” either. Service is kind and fast. Located conveniently at the end of the Albert market. The place is small but I was able to have a seat with no problem both times I visited. Highly recommended! See you next time

Great Chicken Katsu Sando. They brine the chicken for 24 hours and it’s super tasty. Helpful staff, and quick service. I like the crispy cabbage and just the right amount of mayo. Will try the XO beef next time!

The meat was good but we were served cold bread and cabbage (refrigerator temperature) which made the katsu sando difficult to eat. Sin. I don't recommend it.
