Restaurant Basalt in Wijk 04 Wieringen

Basalt is no longer what it used to be. A simple menu with good dishes. The service still had a lot to learn, and the food tasted okay, but that is about all there is to say. Unfortunately, there is no atmosphere.

*Spacious layout of the restaurant. *NO DOGS WELCOME, NOT EVEN ON THE TERRACE!!! (You are missing out on a lot of money, I would say! Dogs have become an extension of the family...) Leaving that aside, we had lunch over the weekend. *Had a fish lunch and a smoked salmon sandwich with cream cheese. That lunch was well prepared. Nothing to complain about, however... The salmon sandwich had 2 thick slices of bread. A little salmon with a sparsely spread layer of cream cheese. The red onion, a few butterfly-shaped pastries. The salmon on my plate was just as much as the fish lunch sandwich my partner had. That one slice of bread wouldn't have been necessary this way, and this sandwich certainly wasn't worth €14. *The quality and freshness were fine. *The staff in the restaurant were more occupied with each other than with the customers and consequently missed my raised hand.

The Fish Quartett was delicious!

This is a wonderful place! The local fish dishes are simply delicious, and the staff is very friendly and attentive.

The price-quality ratio is so-so. Reasonably good food at too high a price.

The wait staff is busy doing all sorts of things and does not keep an eye on the guests. They also don't speak German, which is odd considering there *is* a German menu. Furthermore, you *must* be able to explain, even with basic high school German, that the kitchen made a mistake and a dish is arriving one day late. After we had been sitting and waiting for 10 minutes, were we finally deemed worthy of her attention?! And to think she saw us walking towards her!! She was almost offended that we only wanted something to drink and nothing to eat. The menu is unimaginative and doesn't even have local herring or kibbeling on it. Unfortunately, the other establishments were closed on Tuesday, a major disappointment if you drive to Den Oever for some fish at the harbor.

Main courses without fries, without vegetables or salad, at most some garnish; ordered seafood platter for 23.50. If you charge €30 with fries etc., everyone walks away. It’s not really the location; it overlooks a working harbor, so that can’t be it. And the taste was good, but what can you possibly ruin? So 2 x €23.50 + fries 5, stir-fried vegetables 4 and some lettuce 4.50 2 pers = €60.50 0.0 Skumkoppe 5.50 Tonic 3.50 cha-ching!

The classic 12 o'clock snack was👌 Sandwiches well-filled.

Delicious fish quartet with brown bread, originally served with toast. The fish lunch special was also fine. Both were nicely priced. The service was just right, not overly intrusive, and pleasant when ordering. The interior is cozy and modern. The chairs are cleaned after every customer, at least when we were there. The view over the harbor is very beautiful.

Looking for a restaurant to eat at with friends, we tried this one for lunch. We drove for forty-five minutes and went for a walk with the dog first. The plan was to sit on the terrace. It was closed, despite the weather being quite nice. And the large "no dogs allowed" sign, even on the terrace, was a huge turn-off. Fortunately, the car was parked in the shade and within sight, so we just put the dog in the car. A sign on the toilet door with a strict text didn't come across as very friendly. The menu clearly states that sharing a starter or dish costs an extra 2.50. The lunch was tasty, to be fair. But because of the rules, I didn't feel at home there. I'm looking for another restaurant to go eat at with those friends.

After countless holidays in the Netherlands, we were turned away from a restaurant for the first time with our quiet and very well-behaved dog. We weren't even allowed to stay on the (completely empty!) terrace. Very disappointing, as we had been really looking forward to eating at the harbor after a long day trip! Since we weren't familiar with the area and were very hungry, we wanted to order takeaway and eat at the car – but unfortunately, this wasn't possible either, even after we asked. All in all, a very disappointing experience!!

Waitresses found their phones more important than customers.

Beautifully situated by the harbor. Had a very tasty fish salad. Generously filled with shrimp, mussels, tuna, salmon, and smoked eel. Very friendly staff.

A chance discovery right by the fishing port of Den Oever. We only had a short time (we were on our way to Callantsoog), but the apple pie was delicious... and the staff were very friendly.

The taste of the little food we received was fine. The atmosphere was dull. The portion size was very insufficient (even for small eaters like us). We wanted to share the starter. They charged an extra €2.50 for the second plate (which we hadn't asked for!). "They will never see us again!"

The Fish Quartet was delicious! The eel was mouthwatering, the smoked salmon buttery soft, and the Dutch shrimps good enough to eat. Accompanied by a fresh salad and two halves of toast with butter. Highly recommended!

Restaurant Basalt in Den Oever is highly recommended. We had a wonderful meal here, especially the fish, which was of excellent quality and perfectly prepared. You could definitely taste the fresh ingredients they use. The service was friendly and attentive, creating a relaxed atmosphere. Moreover, the prices are very reasonable, especially considering the quality of the fish, which isn't always a given these days. All in all, a very pleasant experience, and we will definitely return.

Just great. Nice atmosphere. Very good staff. The quality isn't great, unfortunately (maybe don't order the kibbeling with fries). But it does feel like a family restaurant. That's definitely worth it.

We visited Basalt three times within a week: At lunchtime for coffee and cake (apple cake with slagroom) Dinner for two Dinner with family (5 people) Everything at Basalt is just perfect, from the decor to the very friendly, professional service to the outstanding cuisine! We're already looking forward to our next visit in April 2026!

My wife, our child, and I recently spent a week on vacation in beautiful Den Oever, and we visited Basalt four times (!!) during that time because we loved it so much! All the dishes (and we sampled the entire menu once) were freshly prepared, using high-quality ingredients. Everything was also visually appealing. The portion sizes were above average, and the prices were moderate and truly very fair (compared to nearby restaurants and especially to similar restaurants in Germany!). We never had to wait long for our food, and we visited for lunch and dinner, both on weekends and during the week. Although the evenings were always busy, we always got a table (probably with a bit of luck) – even without a reservation. Therefore, if in doubt, it's always best to call ahead, especially for larger groups. Furthermore, the service staff was extremely friendly, warm, experienced and professional, attentive, and never made a single mistake. However, you should speak a little English to be understood. The restrooms were clean and well-maintained, as was the entire restaurant in general. From the terrace, weather permitting, you have a beautiful view of the water, the ships, and the harbor. For two appetizers, two main courses, and various alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, plus a generous tip :-), you almost always end up spending under 100 euros. And even the little ones are catered for, with kids' meals and a small play area with lots of fun toys! :-) If you're nearby, Basalt is definitely worth a visit, whether for lunch or dinner, inside or outside, meat or fish makes no difference! We're very happy and grateful to have found it (also here on Google because of the good reviews!); it really enriched our vacation! =)

We had 3 kinds of fish dishes . They are fresh, soft and tasty. We ordered smoothies as drinks. All are with excellent taste.

The average price is 20/30, but that doesn't include fries, salad, or anything else, just meat or fish. So, 30/40 is essentially the average price.

It's a real shame that it's the only one open on Mondays, and dogs aren't welcome on the terrace. It's okay to do that indoors, but on the terrace... there were even two terraces. Why not one for dogs and one for dogs?

It's so nice to stop here on the way home. Beautiful view, friendly staff, and of course, the food is delicious.

Well, what can I say? We were only there for a quick stopover, and there wasn't enough time for anything else. The atmosphere here was definitely good. I really liked the ambiance. The view of the sea was beautiful. I would love to go back again. I really enjoyed it.

The bread board as a starter was very tasty and the fish varia as a main course was delicious, really recommended, we will definitely eat there more often.

Four of us went to the restaurant for dinner. Since we had already made a reservation in the afternoon, we got the window seat we requested, overlooking the harbor. We had meat and fish dishes. Side dishes must be ordered separately. The food was absolutely delicious. Among other things, we had the fish platter for two. I would have preferred a sauce or remoulade to go with it. The peppercorn sauce with the steak was phenomenal. The service was also attentive, prompt, and friendly. Oh, and the mustard soup deserves a mention! You should definitely try it. It's a poem!

The food was very tasty. Portions could be a bit larger. Prices are on the higher side. This was our second time here, and it was very good.

The cozy restaurant offers a variety of food choices. We stopped here for dinner on our BENELUX trip. The only restaurant in the immediate vicinity of the accommodation that is open after 8:00 PM.

We wanted to have a nice meal while on vacation. Unfortunately, our dog wasn't welcome, not even on the terrace. So we canceled the reservation and looked for another restaurant. I think dogs should at least be allowed on the terrace.

Super tasty fish, large portion

A wonderful Seaside restaurant where we enjoyed fresh clams and oysters, caught straight out of the sea. Their assortment of fish is prepared expertly, and the taste is great. For the children there are also fries and local (fried) delights or nuggets.

Halfway between Haarlem and Dokkum, a nice place to meet family...delicious fish!

Saturday 14 June with a group of 9 people sat on the terrace in the afternoon. After the Seal Tour we dined inside in the evening. The service was hospitable and friendly. The food was excellent. In short, a great restaurant, nice service and excellent food.

A lovely lunch stop with a friend in Den Oever. I had a large fish salad, which comes with smoked salmon, smoked eel, dutch shrimps and tuna. I had never tried eel or dutch shrimp before, and they were amazing! Fresh food with great service and atmosphere - highly recommend.

The restaurant is located right in the harbor. We were able to enjoy the outdoor terrace in the perfect weather. We were absolutely thrilled with the food. The noise from the machines working in the harbor was a bit annoying, but understandable. So what, it was still nice, and it would have been quieter inside. The service was friendly but a bit curt. They didn't notice when my drink was empty. I'm used to being asked if I'd like anything else in those cases. But maybe that's Dutch reserve 😉 and I don't consider it a serious disadvantage.

How incredibly nice! to be able to sit without dirty or loud dogs.. a restaurant is simply not a place for Pets. The food is well prepared but not special also very few vegetables.. the service very friendly and fast. Toilets were perfectly clean.

The restaurant is in the middle of the fishing harbor and therefore has a great location, but the ambience is very nice. The service is super nice and the food is very good.

I wouldn't know, we came by bike with the dog. Wanted to sit on the terrace. It is above a prohibition sign for dogs. I noticed that it also applies on the terrace, so I turned around. Never before has my dog ​​not been welcome on the terrace.

If you want to know how high quality craftsmanship and a warm, good-mood atmosphere celebrate the marriage on the palate, you have to stop by here. We have rarely been welcomed and advised so warmly and kindly as guests by the service staff. Clear, good menu and everything freshly prepared! We will want to eat well here more often.

A cozy restaurant on the harbour. A nice, quiet atmosphere with excellent service. We enjoyed a wonderful lunch; fish quartet, lobster croquette sandwich and flammkuchen. All equally tasty and value for money. This was the second time I had lunch here, both times equally enthusiastic.

Right on the harbor, lots of choice, parking spaces right next to it, ramp for wheelchair users: what more could you want.

Fresh oysters from the mudflats, delicious. The cress is not such a good idea. If you eat that, you will no longer taste the delicious oysters. Don't do it again.

Had lunch with a reasonable group of people. Good and fast service. People were regularly asked if anyone wanted something to drink. Food was served to everyone at the same time, really great. In terms of atmosphere, I think it could be a little better, I thought it was quite dark now. Also highly recommended.
