It is bizarre that they have a Black Pete caricature hanging here, and then even want to justify it!! Too sad for words!

I arrived at the restaurant and was seated at my table. Only to realize that there was a large Black Pete doll at my table, which is part of their basic decor. It is now September 2026, suggesting that this is part of their annual decor. This was enough reason for me to decide not to spend my time or money in this place. To the owners: Black Pete was never okay, and in 2026 you really should know that it is a racist caricature. Choosing to have a Black Pete doll as year-round decor in your restaurant is incredibly sad and painful. I advise you to Google Black Pete or Zwarte Piet yourself, educate yourselves, and ensure a positive change.

We ate here for the first time last Saturday and it is definitely worth repeating. In the restaurant, you feast your eyes on everything hung on the walls and ceiling. The menu is also very funny, with stories, comics, and photos. The food is more than fine. There is a lot of choice, but that does not detract from the quality. The service was excellent!

Back from a weekend in Friesland, we ate at De Dikke Bries! Sunday evening, high season, and no reservation… Still managed to get a spot outside, which was no hardship at 25 degrees. The menu is incorporated into a fun newspaper that you can read through after ordering. Cleverly done! The food, an XXL schnitzel and chicken satay, came with all sorts of tasty side dishes. More than enough of everything! The service was superb: spontaneous, polite, and friendly! Compliments!

We have eaten here three times in the past 12 months. The decor is unique and the atmosphere is great. No complaints about the service, and any potential mistake is resolved immediately. The food is good, though a bit on the pricey side, but understandable given the varied menu.

We went there for dinner today on our 27th wedding anniversary. I ordered entrecôte to celebrate, medium-rare! What I received was an entrecôte about 4 cm thick that looked good on the outside but was unfortunately raw inside. Then I received two more pieces of meat, about 2 cm thick, which were also raw. This had nothing to do with an entrecôte… I don't know why they couldn't sear the meat properly on both sides and then let it finish cooking in the oven to medium-rare. My guests' meals were fine.

The fish dishes here are prepared exceptionally well. We had a really delicious meal. The desserts are also delicious. The portions are large enough. The service is very friendly. You will feast your eyes on all the items on the wall, etc.

Disgusting, what an incredibly rude guy the owner is. Berating and swearing at customers. The food is also incredibly tough and disgusting. Absolutely do NOT come here! Addition in response to the owner's comment: this is exactly what I mean. He cannot see his own mistakes and is not hospitable at all. Nothing that is wrong is his fault.

Unfortunately, our visit to De Dikke Bries was a very disappointing experience. The fish served was cold and the steak was overcooked; that was already not a good start. Additionally, the terrace overlooking the sunset had been booked. Although we respect that, the group in question sat inside for almost the entire evening. When we stood on the terrace at the end of the evening—just a few minutes—to enjoy the sunset, we were sent away in a particularly unfriendly manner. What made the situation truly unpleasant was the owner's reaction. There was no room for a normal conversation, and we felt completely unheard and misunderstood. When we were subsequently packing our bikes to leave, the owner came outside again to continue the discussion. His attitude came across as very aggressive and intimidating to us, making us feel uncomfortable and even somewhat threatened. Hospitality is not just about food, but also about how you treat guests. Unfortunately, it fell short on both counts. For us, this was not a pleasant experience, and therefore we will not be returning.

Great place for good food. You have to like the decor, but oh well. The sole was delicious, the service very prompt and particularly attentive. Definitely worth a repeat visit.

After a good first experience, we decided to return to De Dikke Bries. Due to the beautiful weather, we sat outside. The table we chose immediately brought us back to the charm of a football club canteen table. No plants, no decorations, no atmosphere. Just back to basics. Sunshine, a nice view... comfortable seating on chairs that make you want to shift your position every time, because you want to occasionally shift the pressure of the steel on your back and backside. The menu deserves a special mention. As someone with ADHD, I was greatly overstimulated by all the text, but that is just me. In any case, there is plenty of choice! After ordering, a fun interactive part of the evening began: the cutlery game. We received no cutlery with the soup. The wait staff had already indicated during serving that there wasn't any, so the expectation was that it would be brought, as we had experienced this in other restaurants before. Apparently, that was a different game after all. After waiting for a while, we saw that the table next to us was being provided with cutlery. When I asked if we could perhaps get a spoon before the soup got cold, this waitress didn't take action herself, but instead passed the question on to the waitress we thought would bring the spoon. Eventually, we finished the cutlery game after a few minutes by walking inside to pick up the spoon. It turned out the cutlery game was also being played during the main course. A peculiar concept, but certainly a new experience. The wine we ordered in advance to accompany the main course was also served perfectly timed: namely, when the main course was almost finished. This way, the wine gets all the attention it deserves. My orange chicken (see photo) for €27 was impressive in its simplicity. It strongly resembled the meal I would make myself when I'm on a diet and spending a lot of time at the gym. My husband chose a stew that offered a surprising textural experience. Meat at the bottom with the firmness of a shoe sole, with a tender section at the top. Something for everyone. Along with the main course, various small bowls of potatoes, fries, salad, and vegetables appeared on the table. In terms of taste, a clear line had been chosen: tasteless. Ultimately, we did not mention anything to the wait staff. Given how the evening unfolded in terms of service, atmosphere, quality, etc., we did not feel that the friendly young girls could change anything about this experience. In short: if you have always wanted to pay luxury prices for a football canteen experience, complete with an interactive search for cutlery and dishes that you could probably make at home cheaper and tastier, then De Dikke Bries is absolutely highly recommended.

It is a unique location that you wouldn't easily stumble upon yourself, situated by a marina. Personally, the atmosphere is a bit 'meh' for me; it looks a bit messy at first glance, but also cozy. The girl who came to serve us was, I think, new to the team? Not very knowledgeable about the menu, but very helpful and friendly. The food was truly exquisite; from starter to dessert, I enjoyed every bite. In short, a cozy restaurant where you can enjoy a delicious meal, chapeau!

Should you get bored before, during, or after dinner, there is so much to see here. That alone is worth a visit. Food more than excellent, friendly service. All in all, had a great evening.

The place was packed, and even though I am quite a bit deaf, conversation was perfectly possible. The nice decor is not only cozy, but apparently also dampens everyone's sounds very pleasantly.

We had a wonderful dinner in a cozy atmosphere. You can't help but take in the entire décor of De Dikke Bries, including a very original newspaper-style menu that takes some time to peruse. Our starter, main course, and dessert were all prepared with great care and attention to detail. They were all delicious and more than sufficient. A minor point of concern was that one of my table companions' mashed potatoes wasn't quite warm, unfortunately. But otherwise, hats off. Two minor remarks: after we placed our order with the waitress, she returned to set the cutlery to match our chosen menus. This lady had an eye for detail and meticulously remembered our selection without having to ask. A welcome relief. And then a second point: there's a layer of foam under the tablecloth, making it soft to the touch. All in all, definitely recommended for a fun and culinary journey of discovery.

What a fantastic restaurant! I've often driven past it but never been inside. The service is incredibly sweet, friendly, and excellent, and the interior is a feast for the eyes. The food was also delicious, with lots of fish, so I definitely need to eat there more often.

It was our second time at De Dikke Bries. When the weather is nice, it's always lovely to stroll through the harbor to the restaurant. The food was delicious again, but the service needs some improvement. One of us has a shrimp allergy and clearly indicated this when ordering. When the main course was served, they first brought the wrong dish (it happens!) and then the correct one, but with shrimp on the side. This is dangerous and absolutely unacceptable. However, it was quickly resolved. Furthermore, a little more attention could have been paid to additional drinks and other requests during the meal. We had a pleasant evening, with a delicious meal in a pleasant atmosphere.

These days, good value for money isn't something you can take for granted. But here, everything is just right. Thanks for the great time.

Delicious food. Tip: we walked to the restaurant with our dogs. There are 2 no-dog signs on the door. We would have preferred to see this more clearly on the parking lot. Wat een mooie plek, aan de jachthaven en IJsselmeer. En wat een fijn restaurant. Er hangt een prettige sfeer ( wordt altijd bepaald door eigenaar/manager, zo ook hier). Ook vriendelijke, attente meisjes in de bediening. Als lunch namen we broodje biefstukpuntjes met champignonsaus: héél lang geleden dat ik ergens een broodje heb gegeten dat met zulke goede ingrediënten en zoveel liefde voor het vak was gemaakt. Echt heerlijk! Een logistiek probleem dat we hadden, werd door de baas ook nog met veel geduld opgelost. Wat ons betreft: zéker een aanrader!

Very interesting place and very good food

We were in the marina, and wanted to have a beer and maybe some snacks at 5. All the tables were booked for dinner for the evening. But all of them were unoccupied at the moment. Most Dutch people usually have dinner after 19:00 in the weekend. The staff was absolutely against us having a drink while the tables were still free. Very unfriendly. Would not recommend if you want to feel welcome.

The restaurant magazine is fantastic, it literally gives a glimpse into the kitchen and conveys that this is a no-nonsense company with ditto staff. The latter were exhausted because it was quite busy, it's great that they were able to keep up, compliments.
