Friendly staff. Delicious food. The prime rib was superb. I would definitely go back here again.

We didn't have a reservation, but the staff went above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable. First, we had a drink at the bar, and then we found a table. We had a wonderful meal; the prime rib was one I don't often see, delicious. My daughter's Caesar salad was also a hit. The staff works very hard and remains attentive. Thanks for a lovely evening, and even though we're not from Hoorn, we'll definitely be back.

Friendly service, delicious food and excellent price-quality ratio..

The food was excellent as always! There were also plenty of gluten-free options! It was a shame that I had to ask myself if we could order something after 45 minutes, and that we didn't get our starter until over an hour after we arrived. The rest wasn't much different. I had to go to the bar twice to ask if we could get another drink. The result: a disappointed birthday boy who was done with it and didn't want a (celebratory) dessert either... Of course, I discussed this honestly with the staff. I'm not used to this at all at De Rooie Kip, where I go very regularly and where everything normally runs smoothly.

I had reserved a table but only got a seat at the bar because there were no other tables available. I could only order a three-course meal for €63 from the special Christmas menu. I couldn't eat that much and only wanted a main course. When they almost refused, I said I wouldn't eat there that day. As a result, I still had to pay €20 because I had a reservation and hadn't eaten anything. Terrible service! And they didn't even have a table for me! A very bad start to my solo holiday in Holland between Christmas and New Year's.

Neat place with good food and good staff

We had a delicious meal on Boxing Day! And the service was also perfect. There could have been a bit more Christmas atmosphere, for example, with decorations and music.

I had reserved a table, but there were no tables available, only a bar stool at the counter. They only had a small, special Christmas menu for €63. I didn't want a starter or dessert, but I would have had to pay for everything anyway. Then I wanted to leave, but I had to pay €20 because I hadn't eaten anything. Terrible service!

It was busy with guests, all tables were occupied, and the staff was friendly, checking in regularly to see if anyone had any requests. The food was delicious. My lunch and dinner experience was excellent, and I definitely recommend eating at De Rooie Kip.

There had been a mistake with the bread order; it hadn't come through. When I asked for it, I said I didn't need it with my main course. Then the bread arrived, followed two minutes later by the main course. When I pointed this out, the kitchen hadn't mentioned that the main course was ready when I ordered the bread. The solution was to take back the bread and not charge for two mistakes they made themselves. This was corrected immediately, which is polite, and the service was perfect. The food was excellent.

I see I gave it 5 stars eight years ago, but I'm doing it again. Delicious food at a great price. Very friendly service. Close to Park Schouwburg and Hoorn's city center, and with excellent parking.

Perhaps it's a good idea to dim the lights a bit and decorate the windows so you don't feel so overwhelmed. Feel free to go inside because the food is truly delicious.

We recently dined at De Rooie Kip in Hoorn. Let me start by saying: the food was excellent. The dishes were flavorful, well-prepared, and generous enough to enjoy. The service also deserves a compliment: friendly, attentive, and professional – exactly what you hope for when dining out. However, we had an experience that unnecessarily detracted from the overall experience. With our main course for two, we were served fries with a small bowl of mayonnaise. Nothing special in itself, but as soon as that bowl was empty and we asked for some more, we did receive another bowl – but this time for €0.50. Of course, it's not the small price that matters. What bothers us is the principle. As a guest, especially in a restaurant that otherwise prioritizes quality and service, you expect a simple request for extra sauce to be graciously granted. That's part of hospitality, the feeling of being welcome and cared for. We regularly dine at various restaurants, both in the region and beyond, but we've never experienced anything like this before. Everywhere, it's taken for granted that sufficient sauce is provided, or that extras are brought to the table without fuss when requested. It's a small effort for the restaurant, but it makes a huge difference for the guest. That's precisely why we were so disappointed. You can have such good food and such pleasant service, but if a restaurant decides to charge extra for these kinds of small details, it gives a stingy and unfriendly impression. And that's a shame, because it detracts from an otherwise positive experience. A guest feels much more appreciated if they simply provide sufficient side dishes, such as sauce, without having to pay a separate bill for an extra spoon. Ultimately, hospitality isn't just about good food and friendly staff, but also about those small gestures that make a visit a warm, complete experience—one you'll look back on fondly. Our advice to De Rooie Kip: Stop these childish extra charges. It detracts from your excellent cuisine and friendly service. A restaurant should be hospitable down to the smallest detail – and that includes a little extra mayonnaise, without a bill.

We had an incredibly bad lunch. We both had soup (mushroom and tomato), and my girlfriend had the "Mexican" salad, and I had the pulled chicken club sandwich. After half an hour, the soup arrived, which reminded me a lot of canned Unox soup. It really tasted suspiciously like it. Then we had to wait another 35 minutes. My expectations were running high by now. It had to be something elaborate, otherwise, two simple orders couldn't possibly take so long. But no. The restaurant's pride and joy, you'd think, would be chicken. Both our dishes were supposed to be with pulled chicken, an ingredient that appears four or five times on the menu. But whatever it was, it wasn't pulled chicken. Nor was it a club sandwich, which are usually elaborate, three-layered rolls, thickly filled and toasted; this was a halved Italian sourdough roll with a toothpick stuck through it—honestly, as if they didn't know what a club sandwich was but just liked the sound of it. The toppings were meager and the pulled chicken was terrible; there was no seasoning, juiciness, or even a hint of freshness. It tasted like prepackaged or canned chicken pieces, their flavor tainted by the preservatives. It was because we were starving at this point (we'd been sitting there for over an hour, after all), but normally I would have sent it back. If pulled chicken could just as easily have been tuna, you'd have seriously messed something up. The "Mexican salad" lacked any spice and was the same old chicken dumpling slapped onto a pile of soggy lettuce without any dressing. A complete disgrace—especially for a salad that costs €15. The accompanying nachos were overcooked, turning them into something like impossible crackers, which were also stale because they had clearly been sitting out for a long time. Total price: around 55 euros for four Cokes, two canned soups, a fake club sandwich, a soggy salad without dressing, and canned chicken. Definitely not recommended. Perhaps the dinner service is better.

Last Friday, I celebrated our anniversary with a colleague and 20 people. Juan had created a lovely menu for us, with something for everyone. We had a delicious meal and a very pleasant evening. I definitely recommend this restaurant.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A culinary highlight in Hoorn! We visited Brasserie De Rooie Kip twice during our stay – that says it all! The ambiance is very stylish and cozy, and the service is extremely friendly and attentive. We had the Rooie Kip Special and the New York Steak – both dishes were delicious and perfectly prepared. The steak (medium rare) in particular was cooked to perfection – tender, juicy, simply perfect. An all-round successful visit; we would love to come back. Highly recommended!

Eren was very tasty. The atmosphere was cozy. Unfortunately, the dessert I had chosen was gone. It was disappointing.

Some month ago, I tried the chicken with the satay sauce and it was delicious. I came back to try the salmon with the teriyaki sauce and it was delicious again. Definitely coming back if I come back in Hoorn.

Food was excellent. Chef's choice taken, Rooie Kip. Was just good food. For dessert a caramel foam cake. Ambience was a bit less, a bit sterile. So it doesn't detract from the food.

Tasty, good food for a good price. We were quite early (17:30) with 12 people and didn't have to wait long for our food. However, when it got busier - the restaurant was full - (good sign!) it took a bit longer for our extra fries and later the ice cream to arrive. But that was neatly reported and they were only 2 people serving. Tasty food, friendly atmosphere and nice people. If I'm ever in Hoorn again, I'll definitely come back.

All the dishes we had (tournedos, entrecôte, pork fillet) were excellent! Very good beers on tap (Ywit and Texels) and a very well-matched red wine (Tempranillo-VIÑA BAROJA RIOJA Crianca 2018). Very tasty desserts and extremely attentive service!

Had dinner on a Friday at De Rooie Kip in Hoorn. To start positively, the food was excellent. The service on the other hand was terrible. It took 45 minutes before we even got the menu and our first drink. If we wanted to order another drink we had to raise our hand, otherwise the service would not come. Food fine, service lousy.

Today we ate at the red chicken. The food was delicious. Only the overall service was bad. Only be able to order drinks after 15 minutes. Had to wait half an hour for the menu even though it really wasn't busy anymore. The staff is happy to chat with acquaintances who come in, they immediately receive the menu and then eat fries with them while we wait another 20 minutes for our second round of drinks. And then also serve the wrong beers. Too bad: the food was tasty, but we certainly won't come here again...

Great place for a delicious meal, surprising menu, fast service and nice employees. Atmosphere could be better, the lamps shine a bright white light, which gave a bit of an aquarium feeling in parts of the restaurant.

Excellent food for a good price.

A wonderful restaurant in the town central area. We went and had no problem getting in without a reservation on a Tuesday night. The place was almost empty, with the exception of one table. Chicken with Brie is one of their specials. Tasty meal except the chicken was a bit tough, otherwise all good. We ordered a ceaser salad, and we think we received a tuna salad by mistake. Excellent flavor, we didn't tell them. Desert was very good,. Caramel and merange . Overall, it was a good experience. I would recommend.

Top restaurant. The Texan burger is definitely recommended. Man, that was delicious. Employees are very friendly, cheerful and even joke. You don't find that everywhere. It wasn't super busy, but despite that there was a great atmosphere. If you are in Hoorn, definitely eat here

Het stoofpotje bestond uit een potje half gevuld met vocht en een heel klein beetje vlees met hooguit 10 blokjes wortel. Klein beetje groente reepjes en bakje friet. Werd geserveerd met een lepel dat ik dacht dat het soep was. Aan de serveerster gevraagd maar zij zei dat dit hun stoofpotje is. Voor € 21,75 is dat rijkelijk duur.

Wat een verschrikkelijk restaurant, ik kom er net vandaan en geloof nog steeds niet. Ik bestel daar een mexicaanse salade, krijg mijn salade mis gewoon 3 ingrediënten, maïs, paprika en rode ui. Ik vraag aan de serveerster of dit klopt, zij zegt dat ze de maïs er in ziet zitten, dit bleek en kloddertje mayo. Vervolgens gaat zij navraag doen in de keuken en komt terug met het verhaal dat die ingrediënten niet geleverd waren. Dus ik geef aan dat ik dan graag wat anders wil, want dit is niet de salade zoals die op de kaart staat. Dus ze zegt: dat ga ik vragen, maar geniet ondertussen van uw salade, dus ik zeg: nee, want deze salade wil ik niet. Uiteindelijk kreeg ik wat anders, maar de patat ontbrak, daar nog om gevraagd, maar die kreeg ik, toen alle borden al waren afgehaald en ik al duidelijk had gemaakt, dat ik die inmiddels niet meer hoefde. Ook lagen er rode uien en paprika op mijn bord, terwijl die niet geleverd waren voor bij mijn salade!!!! Toen zei dat serveerstertje ook nog: ik dacht dat je om rucola vroeg? Rucola? In een mexicaanse salade? Dus meteen de rekening betalen en weg hier, maar dacht wel even checken, daar stond tot mijn verbazing een extra bedrag op van €5, dus ik vraag: waar is dat voor? Zegt dat meisje: voor de salade die u heeft gehad!!! Nou ik ga dus niet betalen voor iets wat ik niet heb besteld! Van service en klantvriendelijkheid hebben ze hier nog een hoop te leren! Ze zei nog “Tot Ziens”, maar hier kom ik echt NOOIT meer!

First of all I would like to say that the staff is very friendly. Only that we arrived and once we were seated and ordered food there was no more sole that was sold out. Fortunately, they still had salmon fillet for two people and that was already sold out. While one salmon thigh, the inner core was not completely cooked. Then we wanted to order an ice cream with lemon for dessert. Well you guessed it's already sold out. And once we paid, we had gift vouchers that we could hand in at most restaurants, but they did not accept them. But one thing: I had a fillet steak as a main course, which was delicious. But I won't go there again myself.

Sufficient choice of dishes, food was also tasty. Only in the starter was a hair new starter without any problem. And the chef's tasting was a bit disappointing in terms of size, it would have been better to have taken the meringue pie. Got the impression that the staff wanted to go home at nine o'clock. During our dessert, tables and chairs were already being pushed around, half-full glasses were taken from our table and the toilet was thoroughly cleaned with chlorine. That really gives you the feeling that you are also having a cup of coffee🤔, too bad

Way too many tables, and therefore people, for such a small space. The buzz is like a wall when you walk in and it was way too hot! As people left it immediately became less warm. We were first offered a table placed in the walkway. I almost sat on my neighbor's lap, luckily we were able to get another table. I don't think I'll come back again. Not because of the quality of the food, which was fine. But just a bizarre amount of people in a small space, I felt like a chicken in a battery cage!

Het hoofdgerecht was heerlijk. Het voor- en nagerecht een teleurstelling. Binnen 30 minuten was het voorgerecht op en stond het hoofdgerecht al op tafel. Snickertiramisu smaakte voornamelijk naar bastogenekoek en de slagroom was smakeloos.
