It's not difficult to give the stars, it has been our restaurant for years when we come to Zaandam by boat

Nice steak house with excellent staff

In addition to the classic menu, there is also a castle bites menu where you can find very nice and tasty dishes at very reasonable prices.

We ate here twice in a span of one week lol. It is probably one of the best restaurant in Zandaam. Their specialty are the steaks that comes with perfectly seasoned baked potato, and a slice of watermelon. There are many cuts available for you to choose from. It is a cozy restaurant where you can sit comfortably and take your time dining. The staff are very nice and helpful. I will definitely return here again. This place is also suitable for a large gathering as they can arrange the seats for you.

You can't eat such a steak in entire Netherlands. They are far the best!

I had a great experience here this evening. The food was fresh and delicious, and the service was kind and attentive. Very relaxed atmosphere, a real gem. I had the ribeye, and went with the standard cook which was medium rare. It was as close to perfect as it gets.

3 courses a la carte eaten. Delicious varied food with seasonal products, good friendly service, nice interior of the restaurant. Sitting outside is a nice option if the weather permits.

Delicious chef's menu, excellent service

Restaurant frequented mainly by locals, outside the tourist area. We ate the meat based on the reviews and both the quality and cooking were truly excellent. Excellent wine list and excellent table service. A tip: book in advance. The place doesn't have many seats and is always full. We were lucky because we arrived early and they managed to find us a table for three. The owner speaks a little Italian and tries in every way to accommodate the customer. They have an Italian version of the menu to make ordering easier. Truly TOP, super recommended!

The service was very good, friendly and informative. We ordered medium and well-done ribeyes (well-done was due to pregnancy!). First thing - the food comes out on nylon "plates" which remind me of my cutting board at home. These came with all the cuts from previous guests - which gives it a less than premium feel. The baked potatoes were nice but I can't understand why there was so much garlic mayo on top. It's almost as much sauce as potato, it's far too much. The well-done steak was cooked perfectly. The medium, pictured, was practically raw in the middle. I wouldn't mind this with a different cut, but being a ribeye, the fat wasn't rendered at all which made for a very chewy steak.

I loved our evening here. I had the tenderloin steak - thick and juicy and cooked to a nice medium rare. My daughter had beef stroganoff that was delicious. The only thing was they put a lot of garlic mayonnaise or sauce on the baked potato and I wish it had been on the side. The staff were lovely and really attentive and when they found out it was our birthday celebration they brought out desserts with sparklers which was fun. I had emailed ahead of time to find out info and there was quick and helpful response and the reservations were made.

Quality food, excellent cooking and flavor of the sirloin. The desserts are also good. Impeccable and very courteous service.

Castell definitely distinguishes itself from the bistros on Dam Square. This is fine dining. Perhaps the best that the center of Zaandam has to offer.

Unfortunately we made the wrong reservation, the restaurant was full and we still had a table for four. Food quality top, service too! Had a wonderful evening. In terms of comparable cuisine, far above the level of DAM Zaandam! We will definitely come back!

One of the very best, most incredible dining experiences I've ever had. From the second we arrived we were made to feel like VIPs, the service was incredible and the food was even better. Genuinely the nicest steak I've ever had and my Dad and Son both said the chicken was exceptional. The serving staff were all lovely and so friendly and knowledgeable about the menu and walked us through the small plates offerings and the main menu. There wasn't a pick left on any of our plates. As we were there celebrating my Dad's 70th birthday, the staff made a big deal for Dad's dessert and everyone sang Happy Birthday to him. Do not miss out on Castell if you're in Zaandam, next time we're back, I wouldn't hesitate to book again!

Food good, service often took a while, but friendly

These men understand what a night out for dinner is. We are used to quite a bit, but it is certainly worth it. Price and quality are right👍

After a day at Zaanse Schans we had dinner at Castell restaurant. We arrived earlier than the agreed time, but that was no problem. What a nice restaurant this is! Nice atmosphere, fantastic food, very friendly service. If we come to the west again, we will definitely eat there. Highly recommended!

I was invited to dine here and beforehand I had the Indian chicken which was very tasty. The T-bone steak is one of the better steaks I have had in a restaurant. I will definitely come back here

Food and service were excellent the restaurant was fairly empty as was late evening on a weekday but still a few people in. If we had found it earlier would have eaten there several times.

There is a very nice atmosphere from the moment you step in. I saw quite a few people sitting there, all relaxed and happy. I was kindly welcomed by the owner and spent my time at the bar. Read a bit... had a quick meal... and chatted with the staff. Very nice people, you notice that there is a good dynamic. I ate the prawn pil pil here and I really liked it. Incredible meal, great atmosphere, and amazing service. Özgür is a gem and treated me great giving great advice on the menu and even some tips for enjoying the city. The food was so delicious probably one of the best meals I have had anywhere. They start you out with some warm bread with garlic butter and a few other snacks I added the local draft beer which was nice and cold and very good. I started with the dutch shrimp and they were great followed by the beef filet and fries with some yummy sauces. Just a great night thanks Özgür.

We usually go out for dinner 4 times a year on one of our birthdays. This time our choice fell on Castell. The first time we came here. It was welcome

Upon entering you will be warmly welcomed by the host. Your coat is neatly hung up and then neatly guided to your table. The food was very tasty, as if an angel was peeing on your tongue. At this restaurant you really feel like you are king.

Very tasty and very friendly. While waiting at the bar we were given good advice and our wishes were taken into account. And the food, two types of salmon with asparagus, was excellent. Fair price!

I always come here for the excellent food, the team in the kitchen is great! The service is also always very friendly. But....not really for the atmosphere. The decor is not to my taste, maybe they could do that again so that in addition to the fantastic food, it is also a nice cozy place to sit. I miss that a bit now. Nevertheless, if you want good food in the Zaan region, then this is the place to be!

Tasty food, meat piece could be a bit more generous. Maa4 otherwise good. No criticism, but one comment is the toilet. That is very small/minimal for a restaurant with so many tables.

I went there to have dinner, but for some reason they looked at me and started to say kinda aggressively that I cannot stay there because they were full. They clearly had a lot of seats, especially for a person alone, which I was. I really didn't understand what happened but that treatment was very odd. Response to the owner: I did not take it personally at all. Based on your answer I realize you were probably very stressed and I'm sorry I was not empathetic enough to be aware of it, but I'm judging exclusively the treatment I received at that moment. You know, it's not the first time I go to a full restaurant and have to leave. It was the first time I was mistreated because of it. You might have good intentions recommending me a book about dealing with rejections but that was just a terrible response. I didn't come in "even though" you were at full capacity. How would I know that? When I asked for a table the *immediate* response was "we are at full capacity", from a man. There was no nice lady at the door. That was literally the first interaction I had in your restaurant. I said "ok" and proceeded to leave. I realized free tables and seats, I asked about them and you just repeated "we are at full capacity" again, loudly, more than once, while following me to the exit. You were pretty much kicking me out. That's a fact, it is not me "taking personally". You never said that the problem was with the kitchen. You could have. You were simply not nice at any moment. None of you. I'm happy that you managed to pass this information better to the ones that arrived after me and I hope your business keeps succeeding, it seemed like a very good place. I'm removing the review for food and ambience though, that was made by mistake. Indeed I did not have the chance to experience it, unfortunately. I really wanted to. That's a shame. Good luck.

Fantastic location with excellent food

Just outside the center you will find restaurant Castell. And we are very happy that we made a reservation here. After our coats were hung up and we were escorted to our table, we were treated wonderfully by the staff. Enjoyed a whole evening of delicious dishes and matching wine at a leisurely pace. If you are in the area it is recommended to undergo this experience.

A wonderful place to eat, the chef (Mascha) and her team know how to surprise you with delicious food. Even though the restaurant is called Steaks and Bites, you can enjoy good vegetarian food here. Recommended.

A gem in Zaandam! What incredibly tasty dishes, beautifully presented plates and a fantastic atmosphere. Relaxed and definitely recommended!! Warm welcome and pleasant, patient service. Dinner with my elderly parents. My mother brought her walker and the staff immediately helped find another place where she could park her aid and close to the toilet. The scallop with grapefruit was very surprising!! Those old people enjoyed it and had a great time! Yes, I will definitely come back to discover the menu! A Foodie!

A restaurant with a calm atmosphere that stands out from the bars catering to young people in the city. The food is simple and delicious, especially the ajillo, which is delicious with chopsticks!

Amazing restaurant, from food to service and atmosphere! The food is very tasty - we were 8 persons, hence we tried different options. All of them were perfect. Also the staff does everything possible to make the customers feel excellent and enjoy their time. We liked it so much that we came back on a following day and we would have done it a third time provided that the schedule would have allowed us to do so. Highly recommended!!!

Nice restaurant, varied menu and excellent service!

At Castell the difference is absolutely made in the experience of your evening out: they excel in personal welcome, guidance to the table, explanation of the (wine) menu with classic and original combinations, spot-on serving of a course at the table. right person, a chat with the host, good ambiance created by the service and being escorted out at the end of the evening! We have already made plans to come back soon!!
