Restaurant Christos in Wijk 00: Valkenburg

I won't waste many words on it because this place isn't worth it: great for the locals, a flop for tourists. Disgusting across the board. Unworthy of the name Greek. You asked for the reason? See Mike van Looveren's review. So, for these reasons.

Food is great, staff is very nice, huge portions.

We wanted a quick but tasty bite. We chose the small gyros. It came with salad and fries after all. And Tzatziki and cocktail sauce. Mythos is always tasty. Service was friendly and fast. Top notch. Enjoy! It was delicious!!

Enjoyed Jorgos's hospitality and thoroughly enjoyed the pikilia, kalamaris, choriatiki, and the leonios platter, and of course the retsina and Mythos beer! Jorgos is very enthusiastic about his business and that is contagious!

The weather was nice, so we sat on the front terrace. However, the waiter was very surly. We had to wait to order and then wait forever for our food, because naturally, the many people picking up takeaway got priority. Our plates were almost thrown onto the table, but the food inside certainly was. The tzatziki was a bland sauce with some herbs; not a single cucumber to be seen. The souvlaki was as dry as cardboard, just like the fries that were fried far too hard. The bifteki minced meat, on the other hand, was not cooked enough, resulting in a stomach ache all night. To make matters worse, the manager came and sat down on the terrace in a 'sociable' manner to smoke dozens of cigarettes with two local residents right next to us, accompanied by many glasses of wine. So, there was no question of a pleasant meal. To finish, the 'locals' were given a glass of Ouzo, but as tourists, we were obviously out of luck. So we went to La Casa for our dessert, where the people are friendly and it is always neatly presented. In short, a disgusting place you'd better stay away from.

The decor was simple and cozy, and there was little space between the tables. Your backrest would touch your neighbors. The staff were friendly and made you feel at home. Very good value for money compared to other restaurants in Valkenburg center. The menu was not extensive, but sufficient to make a choice. The tzatziki was delicious, and the rest received a solid rating. I recommend reserving well in advance. In the summer, you can eat inside as well as on the terrace. Many locals came to eat a pitta bread with gyros. The restaurant looked polished and clean, and that says something too.

Really well priced and very tasty with friendly service. It simply couldn't be better.

Great place, excellent service, the host and staff were friendly and efficient. We came for drinks but ended up having a delicious meal and some ouzo. We had a great connection with the staff. During the parade in December, they were happy to seat us without a reservation. Highly recommended!

Can the opening hours be adjusted?

The interior is simple and a bit cramped, but the gyros was great! The drink selection is limited.

The restaurant was just opening, but we were able to be seated. We ordered two gyros platters. The fries were decent, the salad didn't seem very fresh (except for the tomatoes and cucumber). But the meat... I think it was pork belly. They had a different marinade, and it was babi pangang. I've had better Greek food. As someone before me said: Greek snack bar.

We had a wonderful meal! I'm critical of Greek food, as it's my favorite, but this was so good. The price-quality ratio was excellent, the service was friendly, and the food was freshly prepared. Fantastic! We'll definitely be back.

We visited Christos for the first time on the evening of our arrival. The food was very good, the host was incredibly friendly and spoke good German. He was very accommodating and gave us a wonderful first evening. We'll definitely be back. Thank you very much 😊

Not a friendly word when accepting a seat. The starter was really good. With the main course, we weren't asked if we wanted rice or fries, but just fries. Apparently, it was too much to ask to serve just chicken on one plate instead of several meats. Drinks and plates were rudely (loudly) placed on the table, which was quite rude. We shouted from the door across the terrace to the customer what kind of sauce she wanted. The chicken and meat were good and tender, but we didn't find the rest of the food Greek at all. No choice for us, according to x.

I didn't eat here, I ate across from this restaurant. But I still find it quite disturbing that someone on your terrace is so present that people at the restaurant across from you leave because of the presence of a person. I'm surprised that the shots keep being served. While you can see that someone is really drunk already... bad thing. That's why 1 star.

Best Greek restaurant in the Netherlands

The gyro is homemade, and the mezze is fresh and flavorful. We'd actually already eaten, but the pita and meat were irresistible. And the owner is friendly, too. Ephcaristo Polo!

Good food, good drinks and friendly staff/owner

Another opinion says this places offers better food than in Greece and I agree. The traditional moussaka is evidently homemade. We also took the gyros and I swear this is the best I’ve ever had, and probably ever will. the local meat is carefully picked, and you can see by my picture how each layer is prepared. About the meal themselves: we were too busy enjoying them to take pictures. The restaurant was fully packed, and the server managed to take the time with everyone while still providing efficient service. There’s so much more I could say. Too be short: please visit this restaurant, it will be the highlight of your stay. 10 stars if it was possible to give. Extra tip: end your meal with some ouzo ;)

Nice and very attentive service. The best gyros and souflaki I've ever eaten (juicy and flavorful). The ambience is very simple but authentic. The prices are fair and really not exorbitant. No tourist scam! A very small drawback is the only Greek bottled beer available (but it tastes quite good). Otherwise, all types of normal soft drinks are available.

We found this restaurant via the internet and reserved a table because of the good reviews during a weekend away in Valkenburg. It was indeed a good idea to look where we needed to be, the restaurant does not stand out. It may not look very cozy, but there is an atmosphere and the food is delicious! The boy serving was also very friendly. We had a really delicious meal here. Even received a bottle of wine at checkout! It's a shame we live so far away, otherwise we would definitely come back here regularly.

Wow... what an experience. The smaller man who serves there is so incredibly unfriendly that it was almost funny. There were four of us, 1x mixed grill, 1x lamb chop dish and 2 gyros sandwiches. Gyro sandwiches had no sauce or vegetables, only a dry roll with meat. The taste of the meat was very good. Lamb chops were ordered because one of us doesn't eat pork, but there was still a layer of gyros under the chops. Fries were cooked too short so not tasty. We come here every time we are in Valkenburg, but it has really deteriorated extremely. Probably the last time. Very unfortunate. Food 3 stars because the meat was tasty.

Leuk plekje, goede sfeer en betaalbaar. Het vlees was erg lekker sappig en goed gekruid, de friet was krokant en de salade was lekker fris. De porties waren voor de prijs erg goed en de saus was inbegrepen. We waren ook erg snel geholpen en hadden ons eten ook erg snel.

Great little restaurant with an authentic atmosphere. Quick service, good portions and very affordable. The menu on Facebook is still up to date and all the dishes we had at our table were very tasty. Meat was well seasoned and juicy, fries were crispy, there was sauce and the salad was fresh.

Zo,n 3x per jaarrijfen wij van Brabant naar Limburg , nooit slaan we een bezoek aan Christos oven.Recent haalde hij voor ons heerlijke Koko,s ouze bij de groothandel die we mee terug namen naar huis ,met een schaal Gyros the best.

The men are not really friendly. I indicate that I am alone and was able to choose a table. A man comes out of the kitchen and asks very rudely if I want to order something from the menu. Yes, otherwise I wouldn't be there, I thought. I am a single woman and I don't think they are used to that. It took some time before I got a menu. Later... I was able to order, indicated that I also wanted something to drink and ordered something to eat, but before I had finished ordering, the man walked away! Within 2 seconds a plate with feta, sauces and bread was thrown on the table. (literal) I got my mousaka in less than 10 minutes. Wasn't very warm with fries and salad. 1 plate of gaos. I had been eating for a while when I just received my wine. It is very unpleasant there and I will never go there again.

Is and remains the tastiest pita gyros in Valkenburg.

The two restaurant operators are not interested. The meat is cut carelessly from the burnt spit. Remains are on the floor... If you want to order something, you will be looked at like why you got lost here. Communication was difficult. Order bread, get fries. There are no vegetables etc.

Bediening waardeloos. Na half uur wachten maar zelf gaan bestellen. Excuus was dat men geen Nederlandse bediening kon krijgen. Ze liepen steeds maar weg. Eten was redelijk maar kwam pas na anderhalf uur. Geen placemat of iets van dien aard. Zou dit restaurant aan niemand aanraden

Heerlijke gyros. In de top 5 van de pita gyros die ik gegeten heb. Broodje was geen standaard pita of dunne wrap. Gewoon lekker.

At home, eat at least once a week at a Greek restaurant. But this restaurant is more like a Greek snack bar!! Has no atmosphere at all. The 'pikilia' is a starter plate filled with a lot of lettuce and some tomatoes, 1 dolmades, 1 squid ring, a spoonful of tzatziki, a spoonful of tarama, some olives and green peppers. To be honest, I was quite disappointed, far too expensive for what is offered. The toilet was too dirty for words, and the back of the store smelled a bit like sewage. I will add a photo of what a good plate of Pikilia looks like at the Greek restaurant we often go to, maybe you can stretch some leather out of it

Small restaurant, good food, good price

Good Greek restaurant, food tasty, fresh and of good quality. Interior ok, could be better... but excellent help and very attentive (not a cheerful person, but friendly and generous)!

The food was very good. The staff was very welcoming. We really had a great time at their restaurant. The only thing that they can improve is the ventilation. It would be nice to have a better ventilator at the place.

Lekkerste broodje pita dat je kunt krijgen al dat al jarenlang!

Tip van een restaurant houder waar ik een vlaai gegeten heb.. Voltreffer... Goed gegeten en zeer goed van smaak. Wel wat rook in de kleine ruimte,maar dat maakt het echter en weet je dat ze moeite doen. Als afscheid nog een miniflesje oozo mee ivm autorijden ipv aan tafel... Verrassend dat ze dat gaven.

Gewoon goed en vriendelijke bediening

De 2 mannen zijn zeer chagrijnig. De zaak is weinig uitnodigend. Van het eten hebben wij de hele avond /nacht last van gehad. Het werd op tafel gekwakt en zelfs een eet smakelijk kon er niet vanaf. Wil je gezellig uit eten gaan dan moet je hier NIET zijn.

Super lekker eten. Wij doen de afhaal altijd. Is zeker een aanrader.

Zonder reservering op zaterdagavond gaan eten. Prima eten. Fijne service. Lekker vlees en tzatziki ook superlekker.

In ons weekje Valkenburg 2 maal gaan eten omdat de eerste keer overheerlijk was en super vriendelijk en we komen zeker ooit nog terug vanuit het verre België voor zo een top zaak

Een klein knus gezellig grieks restaurant in valkenburg. Waar het vlees vooraan in het restaurant klaar gemaakt wordt. Met een glimlach staat de baas achter de balie en zorgt dat iedereen binnen en buiten met een vol bordje zit te genieten. wij komen van ver rijden voor te eten. zo goed is het. en mensen kijken op het terras is een leuk extraatje.

Zeer lekker eten en vriendelijke, sociale, gezellige bediening. Griekse gastvrijheid en authentiek Grieks eten zoals het hoort.

Heel goed eten en vriendelijk personeel. Mijn advies om meer klanten te lokken is om meer energie te stoppen in de uitstraling van het restaurant. Het niveau van alles is zeer hoog, alleen de gemiddelde toerist ziet dit niet wegens de wat sombere uitstraling.

Zo lang als dat ik in Valkenburg kom, meer dan 30 jaar, is deze eigenaar bezig met zijn overheerlijke gyros. Een zachte super malse pita gevuld met lekker vlees en dito saus. Voor slechts €6 neem je deze mee of eet je het ter plaatse. Een aanrader voor o.a. de snelle smakelijke hap.

Ben ooit in Griekenland op vakantie geweest en heb toen altijd heel lekker gegeten. Hier vond ik al die typische Griekse smaken terug. Lekkere slaatjes en heel lekker gegrild vlees. De Griekse tafel is zeer aan te raden.

Het vlees smaakte heerlijk net zoals de sausen.

Dit restaurant zit in ingeklemd tussen twee grote panden. En ziet er mogelijk wat onaantrekkelijk uit. Laat je hier niet door bedriegen! Het eten is fantastisch. De porties waren (voor ons ) kolossaal. En de prijzen zeer vriendelijk. Gegrilled eten wil nog wel een droog zijn. Niet bij Christos. Hoe hij het doet? Maar het was heerlijk sappig vlees. Als je daarnaast ook nog kan genieten van de vocale Griekse dynamiek van de twee gastheren, zoals wij, heb je een fantastische avond. Jamas.

Gezellig klein restaurant met de allerlekkerste gyros uit de regio. Probeer zeker eens broodje rooie saus. (Grote pita met gyros en een heerlijk, soort van cocktail saus) maar ook de andere gerechten op de kaart zijn meer dan de moeite waard.

The guys serve with true Greek hospitality Φιλοξενία. They had already closed but fired up the grill for two hungry guests. The food was great and the company fantastic. This place is great.
