Upon entering the restaurant, you feel like you've stepped back in time. It's decorated like a Dutch museum, with meticulous attention to detail. Whenever we vacation in Westerbork, we visit this lovely restaurant, as we did yesterday. The spare ribs and the "Brodje De Ar" with chicken fillet were once again delicious and served by the very friendly and attentive Lieke and Silvia. Warm greetings from Bremen, Conny and Bernd

Just had a glass filled with a tiny bit of white wine on the terrace for the scandalous sum of 5.50 euros. No glass of water with it! Unfortunately, the price has been significantly increased and the amount of wine halved.

Our mother-in-law celebrated her 92nd birthday with children. Our little dog was also welcome. So sweet. Highly recommended. Had a delicious ice cream dessert there. Excellent service.

We were lucky to get a table for four at the last minute. Because what an amazing restaurant. You feel like you are in a real museum, and you see wonderful vintage items everywhere. The people there are incredibly nice; you can see that they enjoy working there. They are proud of their workplace, and rightly so. They go the extra mile to make you feel even more at ease as a guest. And then the food... sublime. The 'free-range' menu is highly recommended; it allows you to practically sample the entire menu, and everything is equally delicious. You can roll home at the end, that is how full and satisfied you leave here. When we are in the area again, we will definitely come back here!

Unfortunately, the restaurant was full inside. (I hadn't had enough either) Sat on the terrace. Forgot my power bank at home (not convenient for a day of cycling in unfamiliar surroundings) My phone could simply be charged while I ate behind the bar. The service was welcoming; they keep a close eye on the guests and make sure you lack nothing. Gave the atmosphere 3* because I didn't get a good look inside. Therefore, the final rating is 4*. That will be higher next time. Then I will make a reservation 😄

Delicious food at a great price

An amazing restaurant and museum combined. Not only is the menu worthwhile, the restaurant itself is an experience. And on top of that, the service is top-notch! The food is of amazing quality, super fresh, and very well prepared. An absolute must-try: the dessert called Lemon Trio!!!! My advice: stop by, check out the menu and order, then feast your eyes on the building itself, and finally enjoy what you ordered. You definitely won't be disappointed. Bon appétit!

Day 1: Just having lunch with the family. Just checking out what's in the neighborhood. Off to the Ar. Sometimes you come across places you visit that immediately give you a good feeling. Welcoming and friendly. They even cleaned the table for you under the guise of Drenthe hospitality. Friendly and sincere service. The taste of the lunch was a bit bland. But still just good. Plenty of choice. And taste is, of course, different for each person. A day later, we decided to have dinner as well. We chose the 'scharrel' menu. Three courses with a chef's selection from the dishes. Let's be surprised. And pleasantly surprised we were. Delicious dishes. Wonderful flavors and truly a bit of everything. I'd say it's highly recommended. Wonderfully relaxed atmosphere. Where hospitality and serving people in a polite manner is still seen as a profession. Not pretentious, but straight from the heart. We enjoyed your hospitality and delicious dishes. Thank you.

The food was good; the table was filled with small bowls of warm vegetables, potatoes, and delicious apple slices with anise. So, no extra charge for side dishes here—that’s how it should be! The service was extremely friendly! It is a beautiful restaurant, but very noisy, pfffff. You can literally hear everything the people at other tables are saying. Apparently, there was a family dinner in a separate room next to the restaurant. There was a terrible amount of laughter and shouting coming from there. We paid 108 euros for two people. That is steep. But if something were done about the acoustics/atmosphere, I would go there more often. But then they should also put partitions between the urinals... that would be nice. Now you unintentionally end up watching someone else's peeing ritual out of the corner of your eye... YUCK!

Unique place! A restaurant and Drents Museum (in the form of an old farmhouse) all in one. The food is good and the owners are friendly people. You can enjoy sitting in the sun on the terrace. Highly recommended!

Here you are immersed in the past. An old stable full of enamelware, toys, tools, and tins from yesteryear. The service is genuine and friendly. They ask if anything needs to be refilled, and the food... fantastic! We enjoyed it, thank you!

We had a delicious lunch here. I could have sat there for a few hours, because there was plenty to see in the small museum. Really nicely done. We would love to come back again.

I recently dined here with my family, including two young children. It looks lovely, cozy, and inviting inside, with charming old museum pieces and a crackling fire. The staff is also very friendly, and they're happy to share some historical information. We had a "gourmet dinner" with a selection of appetizers and desserts from the menu. Highly recommended. Everything was delicious, including the specialty beers on tap. We'll definitely be back!

We had another delicious meal tonight. The service was friendly. A wide selection in a charming restaurant.

What a unique restaurant! You could even call it a mini-museum. Before you even sit down at the table, you're completely blown away by all the items on display. It was wonderfully warm thanks to several heaters burning. Wonderful. We only came for coffee and pastries, but we'd love to come back for lunch or dinner sometime. The waitress was super friendly and could tell you a lot about the restaurant and the collection. Very nice. The homemade pastries were truly amazing! And it was great that our dogs were allowed in too. In short, we'd love to come back.

We had dinner at Restaurant de Ar with 11 people at short notice. It was an exceptionally beautiful evening in a special atmosphere with outstanding service and exceptionally good food. Many thanks to the entire team. We would gladly return anytime.

Here you'll find imaginative, delicious, and plentiful food in a pleasant atmosphere. The service leaves nothing to be desired. There were six of us there. Reservations are recommended. All in all, a dream.

We were warmly welcomed by the staff. We immediately felt at ease. Our dog was also welcome. The heater was burning low, and we were surrounded by period pieces. Lovely to see. The atmosphere is friendly and cozy. We ordered spare ribs. They were a hit. Honestly: I've never had such delicious spare ribs. Full of flavor and buttery tender. The meat fell off the bone. It came with a small salad and a portion of fries. Also delicious: finally tasty, well-done, crispy fries. (And not those pale, soft ones.) For dessert, I had crème brûlée. Delicious, with a crunchy sugar coating and a generous dollop of whipped cream. A scoop of ice cream just didn't fit 😁

A cozy and friendly restaurant where we had a delicious meal. The "maam Ar" comes from the royal sleigh originally purchased by the family. The layout is quite unique, with a room featuring Drenthe where the box bed is still visible. A section from each province is also visible in the restaurant, featuring utensils and items. It's really nice to see so many recognizable things. Make sure you make a reservation, though, as it's almost always full.

Dear reader, What a wonderful atmosphere, this museum restaurant. If there's no conversation, just take a look at the walls or the shop with all the old trinkets. There's all sorts of old utensils hanging and standing, sometimes sorted by color. But even more importantly, the food was delicious. The service was friendly and the conversation was enjoyable. And all the tables were occupied. Reservations are certainly always necessary, but another plus is the low ambient noise. Apparently, the wooden interior with all the trinkets has good sound insulation. So highly recommended, and we'll definitely be back when we're in the area. Thank you for the wonderful time and the delicious food.

We visited as a group. We arrived later than our restaurant reservation and apologized for rushing the service due to our next scheduled appointment. The main pork dish was absolutely delicious. I would definitely like to visit again on my own time, rather than for work.

The interior is lovely. The food was beautifully presented and delicious, and the female staff were very kind. I enjoyed a short conversation in Japanese. I've had quite a few flies in other restaurants in the Netherlands, but that wasn't the case here. This was the best restaurant I had during my stay! Thank you!

The food was delicious. Delicious satay and mustard soup. The service was quick and efficient. The price-quality ratio is excellent. The atmosphere is reminiscent of a bygone era.

Nice staff. Price quality ratio was definitely good. Enough to eat and various things were replenished when it was gone. Really ok. Cozy interior with old stuff. A nice big table with 6 people. Great. A downside I found was that it was really dark inside, a bit more light would have been nice in my opinion.

As someone who's born in the late 80s this was like stepping into a time machine and recognizing a lot of stuff my grand mom had. It really is a throwback to old times in the best way. The menu is old skool in options but modern in execution. A very nice mix of traditional dishes with a modern twist. Nice and bold flavors. I especially recommend the Mosterdsoep and Kniepertjesijs 👌 Great staff, in for a laugh. We had a great time.

Had a delicious meal here with friends. The food was really very good. Tournedo, meat stew and fish stew. Start with some bread with garlic butter and delicious side dishes. My first time here and a very good choice. This will stay with me for a long time.

If you want to experience the culture of Drenthe, if you like good food in a cozy atmosphere, go to Restaurant de Ar in Westerbork. In the summer a beautiful terrace is highly recommended if you visit Drenthe. The brown beans with bacon are still reserved here, taste it for yourself, good service, tasty beers and an excellent wine list. Recommended Kniepertjes ice cream, that's so delicious!

A very special place for lunch: De Ar in Westerbork. Immediately upon entering you wonder: is it a restaurant or a museum? Well: it's both there! A very original design as an old farm with 'museum pieces', which gives you a very nice atmosphere. Of course there is much more to try: in our case a delicious Farmer's Omelette with egg, pepper, onion, mushrooms and bacon on a brown Haler Es bun and a Bork Sandwich with fried minced meat, mushrooms, onion and pepper, laced with garlic sauce. All that on a rustic bun. Well: sit back and enjoy it, because both choices provide a generous amount. And yummy… Excellent combinations, accompanied by a white Forte Alto Pinot Grigio and a 'Beer of the moment': Texels Jutters Bock on tap. Of course I also took several photos, so that I could relive the atmosphere after returning home. For example, that 'barber shop where the customer gets shaved'... Naturally, we mention, or rather: praise, the ministry. She builds a bond with the customer in a cheerful and expert manner. Happy to explain what has been served or give recommendations with options. So every reason to come back here again.

Een heel bijzonder restaurant, met ook nog een superlekker eten!! Zo jammer dat we niet dichter in de buurt wonen, maar we kwamen hier tijdens een korte vakantie. Het is alsof je in een museum zit te eten. Zo ontzettend leuk, we hebben onze ogen uitgekeken. En daarbij het eten erg goed, vers en lekker. Als aanrader het limoenijs, met limoncello. Als we nog een keer in de buurt zijn komen we zeker terug!!
