Dining at the Basilica is an experience in the broadest sense of the word. The location is beautiful, the service superb, and the food delicious! We arrived with a group of 10 people. We were welcomed with the choice of rosé prosecco or Vuurzee (champagne beer), or of course, something else to drink. Three delicious appetizers were served with them, followed by a delightful amuse-bouche. After the starter and main course, all we needed was a cup of coffee. And with that, three more delicious friandises were served (the honey cake, in particular, was phenomenal). We thoroughly enjoyed it!

We had a wonderful meal here, the service was fantastic and the restaurant is incredibly beautiful and very tastefully decorated!

We went there for lunch and were very pleasantly surprised. The mustard soup with bacon was delicious. Super friendly staff! The "you write, we post" principle is a great idea.

After the amuses, which were really good, we had high expectations. Unfortunately, our starters and main courses were not as good. Especially the sauces were disappointing. The hollandaise on my oysters had a weird consistency and lacked the acidity which is typical of a good hollandaise. The bisque that came with the fish man course was not concentrated, as it should be. The fish was dry, it was overcooked. The vegetables that came with the main course were OK, but no more than that. The large dish of oven roasted potatoes that came as a side dish lacked the refinement that one would expect from a restaurant like this. Serve less please and make it something special! Service was attentive at the start, but we were ignored completely for twenty minutes after having finished our main course. We just sat in front of our emptied plates with staff passing us without so much as looking at our table. So we left without getting a dessert. All in all, not a great experience, especially considering the price level. It is a real pity because the entourage with the high ceilings, chandeliers and stained glass windows is quite something. But: in the end, it's the quality of the food and the service that make or break a restaurant. There's some work to be done here...

Very nice restaurant with delicious dishes. There are so many restaurants these days that all serve the same thing where the quality is often disappointing compared to the price. That is certainly not the case here. The quality is very good for a reasonable price. You may pay a little more than average but at least you get something in return. A restaurant that is worth driving around for.

Can I give 10 stars? If so I would. It was wonderful. The food was unbelievably good. The service was impeccable. The atmosphere was wonderful. It was such a lovely experience. Highly recommend. We did the six course meal (vegetarian). Loved every dish.

We wanted to have a drink on the terrace on Friday afternoon at about a quarter past four. We also wanted a snack platter. We were told that this would be difficult because the staff would start eating themselves. And the snack platter was also quite large. A bit of a missed opportunity, around four o'clock is a great time for a drink, isn't it? Furthermore, I have always been very satisfied with this location, but this was a bit of a disappointment. Perhaps that was also the reason that the terrace was otherwise empty on this beautiful summer day. The service and the food were otherwise fine, by the way. For the afternoon drink, we will go somewhere else next time.

What a feast! We took a trip to celebrate our wedding anniversary and stumbled upon this wonderful restaurant by chance. It was truly the perfect ending. Thanks to the wonderful team! We will be back.

Nice service, really surprising flavors, such as fried capers and pointed pepper sauce. The appetizers, just like the rest of the courses, always looked very artistic and colorful. You could really see and taste that the chef cooked with love for his profession. Also a nice casual atmosphere and for the number of courses the service was quite fast, but with long enough intervals that you could enjoy the previous course until the next surprise arrived. Definitely worth eating here once. I would definitely like to eat here again sometime. This was really something different than usual. Very friendly service who immediately inquired at the beginning about the presence of any diets (vegetarian) and allergies (peanuts), so that was very nice. Moreover, they offer an entirely vegan menu. This time, however, we chose to be surprised by the chef. And he certainly surprised us with the combination of scents, colors, flavors, texture and consistency that together always formed a very tasty whole. Until the next one!

A restaurant located in a basilica. It exudes a serene tranquility. Spacious, a lunch to enjoy. The hummus was delicious, not too heavy and fresh in taste. Is not a stone's throw from our house, so I won't be returning there anytime soon.

We had a family dinner with 14 people last Saturday evening. Unfortunately, I became very ill during dinner and the ambulance was called. I would like to thank the staff for their good care. Hopefully the guests didn't notice much of it, but for us it was really bad. After the main course we went home. The missed dessert was settled at checkout, which we greatly appreciated. The next day we received a call from the manager to ask how I was doing. We also really appreciated that. I am now better again and I want to let you know that we will definitely come back to the Basilica!

Gisterenavond voor de 2e keer hier gegeten echt fantastisch. Een hele belevenis. 3 appetisers. Voor degene met de voedselallergieën andere amuses dan voor de partner. Een mini soepje, een mini taco met vullig, en een rijstkussentje met topping voor degene met de allergieën. Een mini soepje, mini panipuri gevuld, en een mini merenge met topping voor mijn partner. Gevolgd door wederom een heerlijke amuse. Een soort mini aardappelsalade met brood en boter met zout voor de liefhebber. Partner had een cevice van zeebaars als voorgerecht. Als hoofdgerecht de ossenhaas en als dessert een dessert met mandarijn. Ik de gerookte gansen fillet vooraf aangepast aan mijn dieet. Vis van de dag zijnde zeebaars met een heerlijke kokos/lime saus diverse aardappelgarnituur en diverse groenten. Als dessert chefs keuze aangepast aan mijn dieet. Zijnde abrikozen ijs, jam, appelcompote en een bramen bavarois met verse bramen en walnoten. Tot slot koffie en thee toe. Met wederom heerlijke kleine hapjes. Waarbij die van mij aangepast waren aan mijn dieet. Echt genieten in dit restaurant. Een echte aanrader. Alles was even lekker. Met zorg en kundig bereid. Je bent echt een avond uit hier. Reserveren is aan te raden. Zeker waneer er voedselallergieën zijn.

In this case, the ceviche and wine choice with the main course stood out. Wine was Georgian. A discovery!! Now we have to wait for the upcoming autumn/wild menu. Let us surprise you again!!

Nice ambiance, ordered a 4 course dinner with a friend, delicious appetizers, good starter/dessert, too large portion of main course (1 portion undercooked). Solved by coffee/tea from home. But in general portions were much too large for us. Main course in intermediate course format was better for us.

Samen het 5 gangen menu besteld met voor mij het wijnarrangement erbij. Niets op af te keuren. Super bediening.Heerlijk eten en positief verassende wijnen. To our pleasant surprise, a Dutch Cuisine restaurant with a beautiful DC menu. That is completely vegetarian, although DC stands for 80% vegetables and 20% meat or fish. Vegetables in the leading role. And ingredients from the region as much as possible. We are not vegetarian and we chose a three-course chef's menu. Super. In the photo a carpaccio of smoked wild goose (there are many geese in the area) with a zucchini panacotta. All dishes tip-top, beautiful flavors, including the appetizers. What does a man want more? And the service was friendly, correct and witty. The basilica is a pearl for Appingedam and the surrounding area.

Went there for the second time for a small group dinner taking the four course "surprise" menu. The food was delicious and was presented very well on beautiful plates. We kozen het 4 gangendiner, vooraf genoten van n aantal zalige amuses waaronder aspergesoep, groente bitterbal en n groente hapje, mooi opgemaakt. De gerechtjes waren allemaal goed op smaak en perfect opgemaakt. De bijpassende wijnen goed gekozen, n beetje aan de prijs. Het glas cava vooraf heerlijk verfrissend. Amazing! I had the best salad I’ve ever had in a restaurant (the vegetarian one with hummus). Went to the kitchen to pay my compliments and the chef kindly explained how the hummus was made. The serving staff was very friendly and professional. Last but not least, the building is stunning! Great value, highly recommended.

Ik wist niet dat Appingedam zo'n schattig stadje was, dat in het stadscentrum bij het riviertje zelfs lijkt op dorpjes in de Elzas! Er zijn nogal wat kerken in het centrum, maar ik ben op zoek naar een heel klein kerkgebouw dat omgetoverd moet zijn in een restaurant met goede naam: Basiliek. Bij de entree wordt meteen duidelijk dat de ruimte met meesterhand is omgetoverd in een restaurant met karakter: grote klasse. En dat is tegelijkertijd precies de karakterisering van de bediening, de menukaart, de bereide gerechten en het wijnadvies. Helaas kan er niet meer 'in beslotenheid' worden gebiecht, maar openhartige gesprekken kunnen ook aan tafel. De prijsstelling is alleszins redelijk. Wie hier gegeten heeft realiseert zich na afloop wellicht hoezeer er in heel veel andere restaurants in Nederland wordt aangerommeld. Hier niet! Als dit restaurant zich niet te ver van mijn huis bevond, verstopt in het Hoge Noorden, dan zou ik elke maand naar deze kerk willen gaan.... (Waarom hier nog geen Michelin ster is uitgedeeld begrijp ik niet helemaal. Misschien vindt de inspecteur de reis te ver....)

Had lunch today in Appingedam. Restaurant de Basiliek is a special place. An old church that now houses catering. Is lunch good? Yes. Lunch was tasty. Sitting at the altar was fun and special. We had Brie gratin for 13.50 and a '12 hour' for 14 euros. Delicious sandwiches, good and homemade mustard soup. It was a bit much, the 12 hours, so I'm going to walk around Appingedam before I go back to Groningen. The coffee was delicious, the service was friendly and quiet too. Delicious dinner last night. Afterwards I saw that the aperitif cost 8 euros. Quite pricey. In our opinion, this was rather forced upon us. In retrospect I would have just as soon taken something else.

Rarely have we had such a delicious meal, we had the 3 course surprise menu. We were warmly welcomed and spoiled with a 'snack' on the house, 6 special snacks. Then a delicious appetizer, and then the starter. Every dish had flavors that we had never tasted before. Different than usual, subtle and soft, but really tasty! A truly high-quality culinary recommendation, and affordable too!

The food is excellent, we had the surprise menu and at one point the waiter came with "roasted mackerel" so I whisper to my wife... the Philippines always pull them out of the water in bunches on board, I'm sure. Surprised that they can do something better with that than smoking... Well I was wrong, I have never had such a tasty piece of Mackerel.

Beautiful place with tasty food

This is going to be a long story. Due to the fact that I have been a chef for 50 years, I look at all activities in the field of the three points mentioned above, food, service and atmosphere, in a much different way. Let me start with the atmosphere. A beautifully converted location that used to be a stately church, beautifully decorated and with the right chairs where you can sit comfortably all evening without getting pain in your back or buttocks, which is of course important if you have been dining for several hours. Then the reception, despite the crowds, quick attention for our drink, not fast "done" but just as if we were "the only one" were in the restaurant, and a wide range of drinks on offer. Immediately after serving our drink, a waitress comes with an assortment of appetizers, very tasty and very professionally done. After our choices for our dinner had been taken, we were again served some delicious appetizers, this even continued until just after the starter where we were treated with a delicious broth based on porcini mushrooms. The home-baked fresh bread rolls with our starter were something you had to be careful not to "fill up" on, so tasty! Started with a delicious, traditionally made clear oxtail broth with a black truffle ravioli, delicious! By coincidence, that evening everyone had chosen the tenderloin as a main course for everyone, in a different way in terms of preparation, which was REALLY prepared as requested, at other restaurants the tournedos were often sent back, too dry, too long, too hard, inexpertly baked, this again PERFECT HERE. All ended with a shared "Grand Dessert". Well organized and well cared for. Staff knows what you want and what your request and question are. And something that I find really disgusting and horrible at many restaurants is that if there are fried potatoes on the menu as an attachment, they are NOT fried in BUTTER buuut...they come from the deep fryer.... TERRIBLE DO NOT DO THIS or it should be on the menu as "potato slices" For example with the Greek, but then you wouldn't expect anything different. Here at the Baselice, delicious pastries baked in butter with rosemary, etc. Delicious! Very friendly, professional and quick staff. All this gave our group a wonderful evening out, we will definitely come back for dinner. We have been there many times for lunch, which is always great. CONTINUE IN THIS FOOT .
