Great location with fantastic staff who are very helpful. Good acoustics (despite being in a church), comfortable chairs, a beautiful atmosphere, and delicious food and drinks. They have plenty of vegetarian and vegan alternatives, and even oat milk. And delicious non-alcoholic sparkling wine. We weren't very accommodating with our "requirements," but the staff were very accommodating and helped wherever possible. Highly recommended!

A unique experience, dining in a church. Nice atmosphere, friendly staff who take the time to explain things, and the food is very good. The vegetables are cooked through and still have a bite to them. The food is served nice and hot. You don't come across all of this very often.

I doubted whether an app could find a good restaurant. The app calculated the calories of this beetroot toast based on a photo. The snack fit within my daily limit and was very tasty. The service was quick and friendly.

Beautiful location in historic Appingedam. From the terrace, there is a view of the charming surrounding buildings. A lovely restaurant, but I came there just for a drink. In addition to the standard selection of beers, they also have an IPA from l'Hopster, a local brewery from Loppersum. Now that makes a craft beer lover happy. I would love to see this brewer's entire range on the menu. On my next visit to Appingedam, it is also a very good choice for dinner, as the menu is very promising as well.

Had a wonderfully delicious meal. Top quality for this class of cuisine, yet very affordable. Beautiful ambiance in a former church. However, there is one minor downside. Behind the church are 5 parking spaces. These are reserved exclusively for management and staff. There is even a towing policy in place. That is called hospitality. A tad arrogant, though. I will definitely be back.

What a wonderful culinary evening we had at De Basiliek in Appingedam. The location is special even before you sit down at the table. The restaurant is housed in a beautifully restored old church, where history is still palpable everywhere. The high vaulted ceilings, stained-glass windows, and spacious layout create an atmospheric ambiance. Despite the large space, the acoustics are excellent, allowing you to enjoy your meal in peace and quiet while still being able to hear each other clearly. Upon arrival, we were warmly welcomed by the hostess, who let us choose from three different welcome aperitifs, including a particularly lovely non-alcoholic alternative. A hospitable and relaxed start to the evening. We opted for the five-course surprise menu and were pleasantly surprised from the very first amuse-bouche. The amuse-bouches were creative and flavorful, including a surprising beetroot filet americain. All dishes were prepared with great care and beautifully presented. The progression of flavors was excellent. We enjoyed, among other things, a refined potato salad with lobster, a stuffed zucchini flower, slow-cooked oxtail with Opperdoezer Ronde potatoes, and for the main course, a perfectly cooked veal tenderloin with a rich porcini mushroom jus. A bowl of potatoes was served alongside. I can imagine that some guests expect that with a main course, but honestly, we didn't find it necessary at all; the portions and the structure of the menu were beautifully balanced. The dessert also provided a fantastic conclusion to an excellent dinner. The non-alcoholic drinks pairing deserves a special compliment. With every dish, we received a half glass of the non-alcoholic gourmet drinks from Bôtan Distillery in Belgium. Not de-alcoholized wine, but refined botanical creations that complemented the dishes surprisingly well. Highly recommended, even for those who normally drink wine. The service was attentive, knowledgeable, and service-oriented throughout the evening. All in all, a restaurant where taste, presentation, hospitality, and ambiance come together at an exceptionally high level. For us, absolutely five stars and a place we would love to return to.

Last Sunday, I had lunch with a grand dessert with the children and grandchildren. It was simply AMAZING! The service was superb and the rest of the staff were very friendly upon arrival and departure. It was also very nice that we could sit in a separate room at the front; nice and warm and wonderfully sunny. This is highly recommended, thank you!!!!

The last time I was here was six years ago, but I'd forgotten how fantastic it is. The service was very pleasant, the ambiance was fantastic, of course, but most importantly, the food was so delicious. So well-seasoned, the appetizers were delicious; we were truly pleasantly surprised. This restaurant truly deserves to be full every night. They cook with love here, and you can taste it. We thoroughly enjoyed everything and will be back soon.

We are clients for two years, tonight we got there sate, iam sorry but the sate had no taste.. the sauce you think it’s something for the far east ..taste to nothing.. i could not find a peanut taste .. In the beginning it was really good.. but it seems there is no more feeling in the food.. really a shame.. always when I get a coffee they give me there very good bonbons.. tonight I got my coffee but the waitress told me .. sorry it’s out of stock.. ore my waitress forgot it …you can’t deliver this to a client who is hier for more then 2 years.. it’s ok .its a shame .. maybe it’s better to sell there restaurant to someone who have a feeling.. its really a beautiful restaurant with so professional kitchen.. it’s a shame .. we don’t come back .. and also ore friends had the same experience..iam sorry.. but this is not good for the reputation from a really good restaurant who is going down the drain good luck, but think twice before you open a restaurant.. We had another delicious meal at the Basilica. The restaurant has a pleasant ambiance and the location is beautiful and quite unique, being in a small church. You can tell that a lot of care and attention goes into the food. The dishes are beautifully presented with wonderful flavors and often made with local ingredients. If you're coming from Groningen, it's a bit of a drive, but it's more than worth it!

While passing through, we tried this unique restaurant (located in a stunningly beautiful former church!). The presentation, textures, and seasonings are all top-notch! The only slight drawback was the rather cool temperature; it is a church, after all 😉 You won't find better restaurants in the area!

We recently dined at the Basilica. Aside from dessert, the food was excellent, the atmosphere pleasant, the service reasonable (a bit more enthusiasm would have been nice), but the welcome and departure were downright terrible. There wasn't even a welcome at all; no one helped at the entrance, greeted us, took coats, or showed us to our seats (we'd discussed this beforehand). The same thing happened when we left; you just had to manage... Well, we won't be going back there anytime soon.

We had De Basiliek do the catering for our wedding. They also helped us with the decorations, tents, and dance floor. Perfectly organized!

Beautiful location, where I've been several times and it never disappoints. Today we had the three-course chef's menu for lunch, and (although that wasn't an option on the menu) vegetarian. It was delicious! The starter of various pumpkin preparations was particularly delicious. There aren't many staff and it was quite busy, but service was quick and friendly.

Had a wonderful evening. Celebrated my 67th birthday with my wife. Great atmosphere, beautifully decorated, and the service was very helpful. The food was a true surprise. Each course was a work of art. Exquisite flavors. In short, TOP.

My god, what kind of coffee is this? Undrinkable.

A beautiful location in the center of Appingedam that has much more potential. The service seems a bit inexperienced. Tables weren't cleared in a timely manner, making it very messy. Empty tables in the center without chairs. The atmosphere could use some improvement, as the building is perfect for that. The food was excellent.

Dining at the Basilica is an experience in the broadest sense of the word. The location is beautiful, the service superb, and the food delicious! We arrived with a group of 10 people. We were welcomed with the choice of rosé prosecco or Vuurzee (champagne beer), or of course, something else to drink. Three delicious appetizers were served with them, followed by a delightful amuse-bouche. After the starter and main course, all we needed was a cup of coffee. And with that, three more delicious friandises were served (the honey cake, in particular, was phenomenal). We thoroughly enjoyed it!

After the amuses, which were really good, we had high expectations. Unfortunately, our starters and main courses were not as good. Especially the sauces were disappointing. The hollandaise on my oysters had a weird consistency and lacked the acidity which is typical of a good hollandaise. The bisque that came with the fish man course was not concentrated, as it should be. The fish was dry, it was overcooked. The vegetables that came with the main course were OK, but no more than that. The large dish of oven roasted potatoes that came as a side dish lacked the refinement that one would expect from a restaurant like this. Serve less please and make it something special! Service was attentive at the start, but we were ignored completely for twenty minutes after having finished our main course. We just sat in front of our emptied plates with staff passing us without so much as looking at our table. So we left without getting a dessert. All in all, not a great experience, especially considering the price level. It is a real pity because the entourage with the high ceilings, chandeliers and stained glass windows is quite something. But: in the end, it's the quality of the food and the service that make or break a restaurant. There's some work to be done here...

Very nice restaurant with delicious dishes. There are so many restaurants these days that all serve the same thing where the quality is often disappointing compared to the price. That is certainly not the case here. The quality is very good for a reasonable price. You may pay a little more than average but at least you get something in return. A restaurant that is worth driving around for.

Can I give 10 stars? If so I would. It was wonderful. The food was unbelievably good. The service was impeccable. The atmosphere was wonderful. It was such a lovely experience. Highly recommend. We did the six course meal (vegetarian). Loved every dish.

We wanted to have a drink on the terrace on Friday afternoon at about a quarter past four. We also wanted a snack platter. We were told that this would be difficult because the staff would start eating themselves. And the snack platter was also quite large. A bit of a missed opportunity, around four o'clock is a great time for a drink, isn't it? Furthermore, I have always been very satisfied with this location, but this was a bit of a disappointment. Perhaps that was also the reason that the terrace was otherwise empty on this beautiful summer day. The service and the food were otherwise fine, by the way. For the afternoon drink, we will go somewhere else next time.

What a feast! We took a trip to celebrate our wedding anniversary and stumbled upon this wonderful restaurant by chance. It was truly the perfect ending. Thanks to the wonderful team! We will be back.

Nice service, really surprising flavors, such as fried capers and pointed pepper sauce. The appetizers, just like the rest of the courses, always looked very artistic and colorful. You could really see and taste that the chef cooked with love for his profession. Also a nice casual atmosphere and for the number of courses the service was quite fast, but with long enough intervals that you could enjoy the previous course until the next surprise arrived. Definitely worth eating here once. I would definitely like to eat here again sometime. This was really something different than usual. Very friendly service who immediately inquired at the beginning about the presence of any diets (vegetarian) and allergies (peanuts), so that was very nice. Moreover, they offer an entirely vegan menu. This time, however, we chose to be surprised by the chef. And he certainly surprised us with the combination of scents, colors, flavors, texture and consistency that together always formed a very tasty whole. Until the next one!

We had a family dinner with 14 people last Saturday evening. Unfortunately, I became very ill during dinner and the ambulance was called. I would like to thank the staff for their good care. Hopefully the guests didn't notice much of it, but for us it was really bad. After the main course we went home. The missed dessert was settled at checkout, which we greatly appreciated. The next day we received a call from the manager to ask how I was doing. We also really appreciated that. I am now better again and I want to let you know that we will definitely come back to the Basilica!
