Restaurant De Houtzagerij in Otterlo

A cozy restaurant, especially for families, thanks to the indoor play area. Unfortunately, only one vegetarian main course, so one star was deducted.

I went here last weekend with a friend and her children. It's a great restaurant for lunch with kids. The kids can have a blast in the fantastic playground, both indoors and outdoors. Why 4 and not 5 stars: the food was just fine. Nothing special. There's very little choice for vegetarians. It would be nice if they added one or two more options for a bit more variety. In short: if you're coming with small children who can play on their own and just want something simple like an "uitsmijter" (fried sandwich), it's perfectly fine!

The Houtzagerij lacks a great atmosphere. The plastic chairs are dirty, damaged, and uncomfortable. The table wasn't clean, nor was the menu. There was unpleasant music playing, as if the sound was a wood saw. They made allowances for one person with a milk intolerance. Nothing was mentioned, but a separate container of fries was included. The others received fries and a salad with what appears to be a milky sauce. The staff wasn't enthusiastic and seemed uninterested. The food was mediocre and overpriced for what you get. The restrooms were extremely dirty, so the question is, how is the hygiene?

We had lunch here; the food was excellent and the service was good. The building is quite open, probably to accommodate a large crowd during peak season, but that didn't enhance the atmosphere, in my opinion.

For us, it was a convenient place to gather for an afternoon. Situated on a holiday park with ample parking, including electric cars. There's both an outdoor and indoor playground, which is great fun for the kids! Unfortunately, the staff wasn't very enthusiastic on the Sunday afternoon we visited De Houtzagerij. The (mostly) English-speaking service was unwelcoming and very slow. If we hadn't taken action ourselves, we would have left dehydrated. The drinks and snacks were delicious.

During our walk, we popped into the campsite to grab our hiking fries at the Houtzagerij restaurant and snack bar. Very tasty fries and... just vegan mayonnaise. Excellent 👌🏻🌱. When we asked, they told us the mayo was from Oliehoorn. We sat there for a while. A great spot for people camping, but also for hikers who are hungry. Recommended. Very friendly service.

We spent a long weekend at Wije Werelt, just to get some fries from the snack bar one evening. The fries were barely cooked through, which was a shame, so the food wasn't enjoyable 🤨. So the next day we went looking for something in Otterlo itself.

Ordered a chicken schnitzel and satay with fries, which was just fine. It was a cozy atmosphere by the pool and on the terrace.

A great restaurant with good food and a nice children's menu. From the terrace or the first tables inside, you have a good view of the playground, where the children can play to their hearts' content. There's also a fun indoor playground with climbing frames and slides. We received excellent service and were able to move without any problems when we ended up sitting in the bright sun. The restaurant is located on the Europarcs grounds, so the children also had a great time dancing with the entertainment team. Thanks!

We hebben tijdens ons verblijf in de Wije Werelt een aantal keren gegeten in dit restaurant. Het eten is prima. Het restaurant is ook zeer kindvriendelijk. Kinderen zijn van harte welkom en voor hen is er ook een aangepast menu.

We were allowed to camp at De Wije Wereld for almost a week. On the first evening, we opted for a quick bite to eat at the restaurant. After waiting 15 to 20 minutes at a table outside, we went inside to ask if someone could take our order. Because the staff spoke English, something went wrong right away with the drink order! After another 20-minute wait, we were finally able to order our food! The portions were rather small considering the price. We had a small bowl of water with the color of mushroom cream sauce, so thin and inedible. The mayo for the fries came in a paper thimble. Bacon, onion, and mushrooms were also ordered with a schnitzel. I was glad we were sheltered from the wind, otherwise the four bacon strips would surely have blown away. All in all, a very disappointing experience at the lumberyard, and as others have written in their reviews, it would certainly be a good idea to employ staff who at least make an effort to look like they enjoy their work. And don't just walk past people or ignore them when they're waiting to place an order... We even tried ordering a soft serve ice cream from the adjacent takeaway, but after waiting 10 minutes, we walked out without one!... So we got one from the shop, and believe it or not, it was closed!!!! It was already 3:08 PM, and the shop closes at 3:00 PM! Unbelievable.

Had a delicious lunch this afternoon, excellent food, reasonably priced, and very tasty. Pleasant atmosphere and good service. In short, highly recommended.

Friendly staff, delicious coffee and cake, terrace and restaurant.

It was a lovely evening and we wanted to eat outside. However, we were told that this wasn't possible that evening and we had to sit inside. The staff only spoke English and (once again) didn't feel like working. That was obvious. The prime rib was truly delicious. The pizza (and it arrived a good ten minutes after the other diners, who had to wait) was burnt. The crust was brown and black, so you could smash a plate. We explained why three-quarters of the pizza was left behind, but received no response. Such a shame. The prices are fine. The side dishes are also good in terms of portion size. Overall... difficult to judge. Why? Because the staff ruins the atmosphere, making you not want to come back. And that's a real shame. You shouldn't want this.

Delicious pizza and burgers. The staff could have been friendlier; they had trouble juggling tasks simultaneously (e.g., taking and serving drinks). Wet tables weren't dried. Drink prices were quite expensive.

Great service (smooth) and tasty

Zonder te reserveren zijn we hier wat gaan eten. Het was redelijk druk. We mochten plaatsnemen aan een grote tafel of wachten op een kleiner tafeltje. We kozen voor het laatste en konden zolang wachten de lounge ruimte. Toen we onze drankjes kregen, stond ons tafel klaar. Bediening was vlot en vriendelijk (wel veel mensen die geen Nederlands spraken) en ons eten stond snel op tafel. Verwacht van het eten geen hoogstandje, het is zeker niet slecht, maar gewoon oké. Porties zijn voldoende en worden met bijlage geserveerd. Wij vonden de prijzen wel iets aan de hoge kant voor wat je krijgt.

The food was great, the service was good. Had to order in English, no problem for me but could be a problem for others. Toilets were dirty, that's a bit of a problem, but understandable since the kids in the playground also go there. It is a point of attention. In short, beautiful surroundings, good food and a good atmosphere. Especially recommended with kids.

We came in on a national holiday without a reservation with 10 people. The restaurant was almost full. The employees first look together at the possibilities and do not send you away quickly. After moving a few tables we got a place. Super hospitality and nice food for normal money. The children can play in the large playground inside and outside.

If you don't want to be helped, you should go here. Even if there are 5 men behind the bar, and only 2 tables are occupied, you will wait until you weigh an ounce. Went there 3 times and left 3 times after 20 minutes without a drink. Staff is incompetent

We had a wonderful day. They have a spacious terrace around the playground and swimming pool. An indoor playground is also available. Enjoy a nice after-dinner chat while the children can play.

Great during our stay at the campsite to eat out. Too bad it wasn't that busy.

Celebrated grandma's 90th birthday with a group of approximately 25 people. The food was delicious, the service friendly and pleasant and the atmosphere fantastic. Even the nice weather was arranged :). We will definitely come back again.

Waiting 10 minutes to order at the snack bar, 3 employees kept walking past us as if we didn't exist. When my grandson pressed the service desk, it was ripped out of his hands and told that he was not allowed to call. We left without ordering

The music is way too loud, there are not enough staff and they make you wait too long! We couldn't enjoy the food because it took way too long for us! Hence the 3 stars

Delicious meal with great service. Recommended for small children who can play in the indoor and outdoor playground and the parents on the terrace.

Highly recommended restaurant. The service is great and German is also spoken. What's great is that the indoor playground is right next door. The menu includes main courses, starters and sandwiches. Tastes very good

Food is good. Sometimes long waiting times due to shortage of staff. Not cheap.

The four of us were almost alone in the large room, but it was still cozy there and we had a great meal.

I have the feeling that they focus more on local people here (who have something to celebrate with large groups) than the guests of the holiday park. The menu does not complement your holiday experience with young kids and the prices are far too high in my opinion. Shame! A missed opportunity

We first went to the indoor playground and the outdoor playground and wanted to order something to drink. However, that was not possible because they were no longer taking orders. It had been too busy and they had to get everything in order and take a break first. While we couldn't order, there were others before and behind us who could. We had reserved a table in the restaurant for later. We arrived at a quarter to five, even though our reservation was for five o'clock. We were told that we could sit down, but that we would not be helped because they had to take a break first. When we asked if we could order at five o'clock, the time was checked first. I have never experienced anything like this in a catering establishment.

Had dinner with a large group (40 people) including 10 children for their wedding anniversary. Everything was taken care of down to the last detail, both the coordination in advance and on the day & evening itself was nice. Compliments, keep it up!!!

Apparently the Sawmill is doing too well. If you request information for a reservation by email, you will not receive any response after a week. It was a group of about 20 people.

Beautiful and neat spaces for parties, nice indoor play location for children. It is also possible as an adult to order a children's menu (better to eat an empty plate than to throw away food).

Friendly Park Restaurant with a modest menu, but fine. Children can have a great time and dogs are welcome.

Al 3 jaar dezelfde kaart, tis tijd voor verandering. Op de menukaart staat " bij elk hoofdgerecht een salade en frietjes" dit klopt niet want je krijgt alleen een salde bij de pasta. Als er ergens groenten of zelfs sla op de hamburger zit krijg je niks erbij. Kindermenu kaart is prima. Die vermaken zich prima in de overdekte speelhal maar de menukaart moet echt vernieuwd worden.

Gereserveerd altijd zo gedaan maar was geen plaats zonder dat zij dat ons melden hoe vreemd en onfatsoenlijk is dat.........????

Not a very nice restaurant. We had reserved a table and when we arrived we were neatly taken to our table, but it turned out to be still full of the dirty dishes from the previous diners. Ordered a sandwich in advance and at the same time told us what we wanted as a main course. When we were eating bread, the main course arrived quite quickly. Then also passed on a beer, but never received it. And for the rest of the meal we didn't see anyone from the service... after the main course we just paid, but it was actually all very disappointing.

Ordered the spare ribs, it looked like they came pre-cooked from the freezer and were cold and the meat had a very thick edge of fat. Won't eat here again.

Nice restaurant and clean toilets. We came with a large group and there was a separate children's table while there were 5 children under 5. So super inconvenient. Eating and drinking took a very long time. You could only order lunch from 12 o'clock and because there were more than 10 people we suddenly had less choice because of a separate menu. There was a vegetarian among us and there was no vegetarian choice. Food for the kids came later than our sandwich. Poffertjes were forgotten for a child and the waitress said we had not ordered them. It turned out to be on the receipt, so I ordered it. Indoor playground is fun but still a bit big and intense for children under 4 to 5 years old because of a very steep slide and high climbing. It's also quite out of sight from the restaurant. When paying, it was mentioned that it all took a very long time and that quite a lot went wrong and then it was said that there was a new manager and we received some mints as compensation. We are not enthusiastic at all!

Reasonable cappuccino and pastries.

Waited 70 minutes for the food to arrive. Several people had extremely hard fries. Probably put it in the fryer a second time to warm up. Fortunately, the fries were better for others. Chicken satay was dry and a bit burnt. Probably a tight space in the kitchen causing this.

A camping restaurant. Lots of children. But that's part of a campsite! So it was okay.

Great atmosphere in a great location! We passed by 'coincidentally'. Children had fun playing in the (indoor) playground. Service excellent and food delicious. Portions could maybe be a little bigger, but it could also be that I was just hungry and it was delicious 🤣.

Breadboard was fine, rosé was not so bad. Terrace very suitable for children, next to playground, swimming pool and entertainment. Too bad that pizza in the restaurant can only be ordered for children. Adults are allowed to get something from the adjacent snack bar and eat it on the terrace.

Restaurant gaat pas in de middag open terwijl het zwembad en de animatie volop bezoekers trekken!! Wat jammer!!! Prima gegeten, summiere kaart, maar smakelijk. Snackbar ernaast voor de snelle hap.

I ordered mussels for €24, but got 1/3 of a small pan! I checked to see if that was the intention, and apparently it was. And about five were still completely empty. I often order mussels, but never in such a small portion! 😒🙄

For a park restaurant they are doing well. We had a delicious meal there. Nice and fast service

Tried to have a coffee and something to eat here for 3 days in a row, but unfortunately disappointed 3 times. Food (panini) tastes like everything came from the freezer, including the spring onions. Staff is not friendly and it is noticeable that there is little catering experience. Prices are not charged correctly, orders are laughed at when asked to adjust them due to allergies, orders are also adjusted without asking and the coffee is lukewarm All in all a sad experience.

A must for parents of young children around Otterlo. (Want to have something to play for them) There is a really nice playground both inside and outside. Part of EuroParcs, but you can visit and use it even if you don't sleep there. Friendly staff and tasty food. Top location.

Een basic restaurant maar prima voor ons. De bediening vonden wij attent en het eten was goed. Verwacht geen hoogstaande cuisine en erger je niet aan spelende kinderen, dan heb je het daar prima naar je zin.

Matige bediening. Coupe vanille ijs 6€ Dame blanche 9€ prijsverschil is de vier druppels chocoladesaus niet waard. Drinken wordt aan verkeerde tafel afgegeven. Wordt gewoon neergezet en bediening loopt weg. Dessert voor de kinderen word opgenomen (hadden we niet door) maar aan de volwassenen wordt niets gevraagd.

Een leuke plek waar je met kinderen je prima kunt vermaken. Een prima restaurant met een diverse kaart. Zowel binnen als buiten speelgelegenheid voor de kinderen. Het eten was gewoonweg goed en lekker te noemen en het personeel was vlot en vriendelijk. Niks mis mee.

Food was expensive.. 12 poffertjes (I think from the microwave) for 8 euros is quite expensive. Medium size soft ice cream cannot be called medium if it reaches just above the edge of the edible container. Staff was friendly.

It was quiet, not surprising on Monday after the holidays. The food was really delicious. Our grandson had a great time playing in the playground. Was great.

Too bad the waitress didn't understand Dutch. I asked something as she walked by, but she didn't even respond. Of course I didn't like that at the time. I heard a little later that she did not speak or understand Dutch. Then it was clear.

Is the perfect place to go with kids, also because of the indoor playground. I guess you could consider the food good, but relatively simple.

Great place if you want to work with your kids. I'm having coffee with my laptop and the children are playing in the free climbing paradise.

What else do you want; a restaurant with a nice menu, delicious food and lots to do for children! A large indoor playground and when the weather is nice you can sit outside and let the children enjoy themselves outside! Top!

We wanted to eat here but unfortunately everything was reserved. Then I ordered and picked up pizzas. The pizzas tasted good, but unfortunately we had to wait a long time for them, namely 45 minutes.

Nice place to visit with the kids. The children can play both indoors and outdoors in the playground or an indoor play area. We had something to drink there and took a bitter garnish. Personally, I thought the price was quite high, but nowadays you unfortunately pay top price everywhere. But you can still have a good time and it is certainly a nice place to visit.

Service unfriendly and very ignorant. I didn't think about what I wanted to order something that had run out. Quite a long wait and then I received an incomplete order. No apologies when I went to the bar to report that. Large space with little atmosphere and very expensive for what we ended up with. Not recommended in my opinion.

Service was fine, but 11 euros for 2 slices of supermarket bread with a thin layer of tuna salad and a little lettuce is absurd! Nice indoor play area and beautiful surroundings for walking!

Good food, ok price. The atmosphere is informal and the service is friendly. Only the table layout is special, they actually only have very large tables that slope downwards. Anyway. If you bring your children, there is an indoor playground in the building where they can burn off some energy. A point of improvement would be to add more vegetarian dishes to the menu. Children's party celebrated with 8 children aged 7 to 8 years. Very nice indoor playground and everything is child-friendly. Various packages available. Children's food is basic and okay. I didn't eat anything else myself, so I can't judge that.
