Restaurant De Mark in Waterland

One word: amazing! The staff, the food, the drinks, the atmosphere were all outstanding. I especially liked the very well choosen wine pairing with the food. It took everything to a higher level!

I ate at De Mark with some anticipation. The atmosphere is rustic, but the chairs aren't particularly comfortable. The menu is a bit crumpled, hmm. After a while, my legs also started to feel cold. At the start, they offered both still and sparkling water. They seemed thoughtful, but they didn't mention that this tap water would later be charged at €4 per bottle. Sneaky. Don't be surprised if you pay €10/€15 for a half-full wine glass; it couldn't be cheaper. Our wine, which was supposedly not poured from a single bottle, was a slightly expired wine topped with a fresher, more sparkling one. Hmm, that for €15 per glass, not good. The service was friendly and reasonably quick. The food, for me, wasn't what I expected. Ultimately, it's a restaurant with pretensions they don't live up to. As a guest, they'll just shake you dry before your very eyes. That leaves a rather unpleasant aftertaste.

We happened to stumble upon this place for lunch. We were welcomed even without a reservation; they briefly showed us the menu to manage expectations. This isn't a place to grab a sandwich for lunch. Cozy interior, friendly and attentive service with a good understanding of etiquette. Adventurous dishes on the menu with little emphasis on meat or fish. We had a great meal here, and will definitely be back for dinner.

Best location…Right at the peir…Restaurant extends the lake side patio. Food is delicious, served fresh and warm. The staff at the restaurant is very generous and they are able to accommodate special requests….. Reservations recommended but usually restaurant is able to accommodate walk-ins ….

The best restaurant in Amsterdam. I was here again after a few months and they there is only high quality gastronomy and service. Exceptional place and exceptional accommodation. I recommend to all clients and friends 👌

And these were a few of my favorite things about restaurant De Mark: - the serene water-side terrace, and that calm, homey but refined atmosphere. Romantic. - We tried the full course menu and loved it! Tip: if you’re dining with two people, pick different dishes of the full course menu and share, this way you’ll get to taste even more. - The staff was knowledgeable and fun. They could handle my brother and all of his “dad jokes”. Thank you team! 🙏😂 - You can enjoy it on a Monday too! Finding spaces that truly stand out that are also open on Sunday or Monday isn’t easy… but this one? Recommended. Historically, it was once a fishing village. Such a beautiful place! A favorite of the menu was the confit Dutch vine tomato tartare. 🍅 Not easy to get here if you don’t have a car, but 100% worth the trip. Important: park your car BEFORE you enter Durgerdam. Inside this small village it’s parking for residents only.

Had a wonderful experience here last week! Food, atmosphere and service was lovely. Highly recommend swinging by here if you are visiting Amsterdam or the surrounding area. Our server was lovely - forgot his name but he was from the states and was so kind and attentive, as were the chef's who took the time to explain all of the courses. 10/10!

We had a fantastic lunch. We were shown to a private room. We hadn't booked this, but what a pleasant surprise. We thoroughly enjoyed it and will definitely be back.

What wonderful, hospitable people work here! I didn't eat there, but it all looked delicious. I had to be on the water for a film shoot until dark, and because of the heavy rain, I arrived soaked at the jetty, standing a bit lost on the dike. I was beckoned inside and allowed to take off my "not so waterproof" wetsuit. Soaked to my socks, the hallway was completely wet. No problem at all. Everyone was incredibly friendly. They even came to ask if I needed help. After changing, I went to the restroom. That's an experience in itself. Just go here if you want genuinely friendly people around you. The restaurant itself is at least as beautiful as the people who work there.

We had a wonderful meal at De Mark. We sat comfortably at the bar and were well-served by the friendly staff. We were incredibly impressed with the delicious dishes, including some lovely, surprising vegetarian options! We'll definitely be back.

All I can say is tomato tartare. You must! Truly exceptional flavors. I had both dinner and breakfast here. For dinner, I had the wild shot duck, tomato tartare, celeriac special, pasta, and dessert. The staff guided us through the wine selection & we ended up with an amazing bottle. Could not have been happier. The breakfast spread was my favorite. The table side scrambled eggs were divine. We started with a cup of fresh fruit, and you could really taste the local quality. Overall 10/10 across the board. Will definitely return.

Wow, exceptional! I am extremely happy to have found this hidden gem. The surroundings are amazing, and I cannot wait to be back on a warm day to be able to enjoy the terrace. The food is of high quality in terms of products but also technique. Each bite felt like a hug. The service was impeccable and felt like I was at a michelin star awarded restaurant (only cheaper in price 😉). I highly recommend to anyone who wants to enjoy a relaxing great night full of flavorful food, and great wine.

A special restaurant & boutique hotel a short drive from Amsterdam in the charming seaside village of Durgedam. The restaurant has an open kitchen, where the team cooks over an open fire. Superb menu, à la carte as well as set menu & extensive wine list. The multinational team is helpful & attentive. Service with style. A crackling fireplace creates warmth & a sense of homely hospitality with sophistication.

We had a wonderful meal and there were delicious (and plentiful) wines on the menu! The radishes as an appetizer were surprisingly good! And the tomato tartare and mushroom fillet steak as a main course are definitely recommended! 😋 Great service and a cozy atmosphere!

Absolutely amazing experience at De Mark for both dinner and breakfast. Dinner was definitely the highlight; sitting in their private wine cellar, every dish & glass of wine was a hit! The service was also incredible, the staff were attentive and very friendly.

In picturesque Durgerdam (which is worth a walk/bike/drive through anyway) lies the charming Restaurant The Mark. In good weather, they have a very pleasant waterfront terrace, which only enhances the ambiance. On the day of our visit, the terrace wasn't open due to changeable weather. If you make a reservation, the staff will automatically seat you inside or outside, depending on the weather. Convenient! The interior is beautifully decorated with an authentic feel. The service is very friendly and helpful, contributing to the generous 5-star rating. You choose a menu or à la carte and then sit back and enjoy. Delicious dishes. Highly recommended!

Dinner was fine. No attention was paid to our birthday daughter. The appetizer arrived before we received the oysters. At these prices, you expect perfection.

We had a wonderful meal in a beautiful location. Chef Koen and his team created a fantastic array of dishes. Our favorites: crayfish, cod, and beetroot. So delicious that we didn't miss the meat for a moment. The young Swedish sommelier paired it with excellent wines. A fantastic experience!

Very nice location with a good menu and service

We enjoyed a warm summer evening here this week. Simply put, fantastic! The location is beautiful, the food was delicious (high quality, surprising flavor combinations), and the service was attentive and welcoming. It's a young team, and the staff really care about their guests. We found that very pleasant. Hats off!

We came here for drinks on a nice sunny day tosay. The waiter said they don’t serve aperol (although we had before) nor beer (a table next to where we were were having beers). When we asked for a place to sit, even inside, she said she will ask her manager, then came back and said it was full. The place was only 20% occupied. Still not sure why we were discriminated and not accepted there. A lot of tables were having drinks only also.

De Mark is a beautifully situated restaurant with a lovely terrace and an excellent interior. Unfortunately, they make far too many mistakes for a restaurant in this price range (€100+ per person). We were here in July 2025. This is the list of things that ultimately disappointed us about this visit. 1. We sat at the front of the restaurant with a beautiful view. The doors were open, and the flies were also very pleasant. It wasn't just one fly, but at least seven flies that constantly flew around us, sitting on us or being visible. 2. The staff was clearly inexperienced, which is more like the average Amsterdam terrace staff: not alert enough, a bit too casual, and not knowledgeable about the dishes, wines, and ingredients. 3. The dishes weren't tailored to the summer season. A creative appetizer we had previously had there in the winter was still on the menu. We ordered it, but it was actually much too heavy for this season. 4. My wife ordered a sole, which was €30 extra on top of the €65 menu, I think. So we paid just under €100 for a simple three-course meal. That's acceptable, but the quality of the ingredients and the taste were average, at best. 5. I ordered a cod, which was far too salty and served with little imagination in terms of sauce or vegetables. Perfect for a pub. I'm sorry I don't have any better news. I sincerely hope the Mark reaches the level it should be, considering the price, interior, and location. But unfortunately, they've missed the mark.

Although we were not properly dressed for the occasion (we were walking a long-distance-path) we were welcome for lunch at De Mark. We ordered a 3-couse-menu and everything we ordered was absolutely delicious; this is a real taste experience. It it's a bit more expensive than a usual lunch but it was worth every €. I expected a bit more chique restaurant but that is not the case; our table didn't had any linnen on the table and we sat on wooden chairs but to be honest: we love the informal atmosphere together with haute cuisine food. The staff was very friendly (mostly foreign language speaking people), the explanation of the dishes served could be a bit louder. Please note that they don't serve lunch on the terrace so always book a table inside.

What an amazing experience! The bike ride from Amsterdam to the restaurant was already a highlight, but arriving at the space itself was even better. The interior is the perfect mix of chic and cozy. We sat at the bar (those bar chairs are incredible!) and had the chance to watch the chefs in action at the open kitchen – such a treat. The service was outstanding; everyone we spoke to was so natural and welcoming. They took the time to let us taste wines and shared background stories about the ingredients. The pier and terrace are offering a beautiful setting to relax and enjoy. It’s truly a unique experience that combines great food, warm hospitality, and a fantastic atmosphere. Highly recommended!

Restaurant with terrace to water. But it was closed as it is after lunch time. We weren’t turned down. Sat on the road side, table is not clean, no chocomelk. No redbull. We had alcohol free beer, but damn! It is super expensive, €6.5 for an alcohol free beer from a bottle!!! Not normal, not even paying that in waldorf astoria! Not worth it. Also, parking is local only, both car parking and bike parking is totally full.

Tijdens fietsen met fietsvriend willen we koffiedrinken en stukje appeltaart eten op bankje voor deze uitspanning. Engels sprekende ober zegt dat er wel gereserveerd is later. Wij zeggen we zijn zo weg naar koffie en taart. Maar dat hebben ze niet appeltaart blijkt en geen andere taart en ook geen cake…” we zijn een restaurant en hebben alleen desserts”…blijkbaar geen appeltaart dan als dessert..vervolgens dan alleen koffie zwart en cappuccino besteld….paar minuten later komt collega ober langs om te zeggen dat er gereserveerd is om 16.00…zijn collega heeft foutje gemaakt en onze orde opgenomen…het is dan 15.35…wij zeggen ga dan koffie maken zodat wij koffie kunnen drinken en dan springen we gauw weer op de fiets hoor… koffie komt uiteindelijk voor fraai afgeronde prijs (Durgerdam!) van 10€…alsof we op het San Marco plein zitten…kortom belachelijk restaurant en dito obers…als je fietst en door Durgerdam komt gewoon doorfietsen…

We ordered two cappuccinos, which were served in small cups and lacked flavor. We had to pay €11 and was actually surprised at the small cup of coffee for that price. Sugar cubes in a small cup, which wasn't very hygienic. It was a shame it was a nice place, but the prices were out of proportion.

Crappy place! It was packed with people and there was plenty of room, but we weren't even allowed a single drink. Not recommended!

Beautiful waterfront terrace, fantastic location, excellent and friendly staff, delicious dishes, delicious food, and good wine. In short, we had a fantastic evening, and everything was exactly as it should be. Definitely going on our favorites list.

We were allowed to sit on the terrace. My husband ordered two Chardonnays. He liked them, so we ordered two more. Then we had to pay €60. I thought that was a bit pricey. Normally, you pay €6 per glass.

By far the best Restaurant in Amsterdam and surroundings! If you doubt because it is out of the city centre, stop doubting and book it!

We were walking and we only came across this restaurant. We wanted to have a drink inside because we were thirsty after the walk along the beautiful houses on the dike. It was 15.30 and we were refused. Only hotel guests were served. We were very disappointed and we found it particularly unfriendly. Too bad we will not hesitate to tell this to friends and tennis players we know. Greetings Elisabeth and Ko. PS we were able to enjoy delicious coffee, apple pie with whipped cream with a young woman a little further back. We wish her much success and also with her studies.

I enjoyed a lovely four-course meal this evening at De Mark, and it was stellar. The food, service, and ambience were all on point. Each dish was delicious, creative, and well executed, not to mention well explained by the kitchen member who brought it to the table. The server was attentive, helpful in guiding without pushing, and cheerful. He ensured the entire experience was relaxed, yet elevated. I look forward to highly recommending De Mark to family and friends.

I was hoping my second dinner at De Mark would live up to my first, and it absolutely did. The restaurant offered excellent non-alcoholic and vegetarian options, which was perfect for our group. The tomato tartar was a standout, bursting with flavor, and the chicken was incredibly moist and perfectly cooked. The peaceful surroundings offer a refreshing escape from the bustle of the city, yet it’s still close enough to enjoy during the work week. What really made the evening special was the exceptional service. The staff were not only kind but also very knowledgeable, offering us fantastic wine pairings from their impressive list. Looking forward to returning when my family visits later this year!

Cycled out from Amsterdam to visit for dinner last night. Was very impressed with the food and atmosphere. Staff were on the ball & very friendly. Top location on the water front. Great that the young chefs come out and explain the dishes. Highly recommend.

Waiting staff were very competent and knowledgable and the environment was picture perfect. However, I was overall majorly disappointed by the food - not to mention, we highlighted to the staff there was a worm in the fish. I appreciate that is a risk of naturally sourced foods, however, what particularly disappointed me following this is that the staff offered a glass of wine whilst apologising, and then that glass of wine appeared on the bill. The majority of restaurants would typically offer some concessions to your bill in order to avoid a review like this and improve your overall experience. That aside, the food in general was a let-down - not just because of the worm but also the general lack of flavour with nothing extraordinary about the menu overall - especially when their prices are commensurate with top restaurants in central Amsterdam. The wine however was very good.

We enjoyed a delightful lunch experience by the water! This is no ordinary terrace for a quick drink, but a place where you truly take your time to enjoy. Located in a unique spot with a stunning view, the lunch at the beautifully set table on the terrace was fantastic: unique and flavorful dishes, a lovely atmosphere, and extremely skilled and friendly service. In our opinion, a top recommendation!

Ik kan mij niet vinden in de negatieve beoordelingen. Dit is inderdaad geen restaurant waar je voor een biertje en bitterbal op het terras gaat zitten. De prijzen liggen wat hoger maar daar staat veel tegenover. Wij hebben gisteren genoten van een heerlijke lunch aan een mooi gedekte tafel op het terras aan het water. De gerechten waren bijzonder en zeer smakelijk en de bediening erg kundig en vriendelijk. Een aanrader wat ons betreft!

I was really looking forward to have dinner here but was quite disappointed afterwards. The food was way too complicated and not very tasty. I do like the nouvelle cuisine, but it seemed like they took it a bit too far. Especially my main course of mushrooms: it had no flavor whatsoever and the sauces resembled ketchup and mayonnaise. My friends had a similar experience, only a few dishes were good, but not exceptional. Keep it simple, would be my advice, as the location is great.

We are enthusiastic, ❣️The decoration and the view make you happy right away, and the service? Super friendly. The breakfast was not only a picture to look at, but also very tasty! Really one of the tastiest breakfasts ever.

2 hoofdgerechten (smaakvolle) maar kwart! rode biet, zonder Beilage (€39 pp), mini portie patat (€7), 2 x smaakvol nagerechten (€15 pp), 1 x wijn en 3 tapbier, samen €171….. Volslagen uit verhouding, meer tourist trap dan eetervaring. Met lege maag en lege portemonnee naar huis.

I would sum our entire experience as First class. Great food, pleasant atmosphere and lovely service

We had a hugely enjoyable meal at this stylish but friendly restaurant in the picturesque surroundings of the Durgerdammerdijk. The dishes are creative with a strong emphasis on local ingredients and a bias towards fish and vegetables. Seasonal specials are particularly attractive - for instance a dish of white asparagus with flavours of hay and smoked leek. Outstanding on our visit was the "beet au poivre" where a slowly cooked, marinaded and slightly charred beet emulates (or surpasses) a steak. This dish was a triumph of taste and texture. Wine list is long with some very high-end choices, but also an attractive selection by the glass and a friendly "sommelier curated" shorter list of bottles. Suggestion to the restaurant: add a few bottles of Greek wine to your list. A very enjoyable and engaging evening.

A magical location, where an elegant atmosphere meets fine dining. Close to Amsterdam but far enough from the city to feel ‘away’! Thanks for the kind hospitality and looking forward to visiting again.

We arriveerden rond 21.00u om een drankje te doen. We wilden op het terras aan het water zitten om van de zwoele avond te genieten, maar kregen te horen dat hier alleen een diner genuttigd kon worden. Toen binnen in de lounchehoek plaatsgenomen. We werden standaard in het Engels aangesproken, geen enkele poging om iets in het Nederlands terug te zeggen (terwijl het wel begrepen werd). Na 10 minuten werd de bestelling opgenomen. Tot onze verbazing kon een Irish Coffee niet gemaakt worden, terwijl de bar alle sterke drank had uitgestald en de ene cocktail na de andere werd gemaakt voor het terras. Vervolgens vier simpele koffies besteld, deze werden zonder dienblad amateuristisch op de tafel neergezet. Geen koekje oid erbij. Op de achtergrond was het geluid zeer hinderlijk: Rammelend en vallend glas, veel luide gesprekken tussen personeel, we konden horen dat ze zich zeer moe voelden na deze lange dag. Nadat de koffie gebracht was, waren we niet meer in beeld, zo bleek ook bij het afrekenen. De barman had geen idee waar we gezeten hadden, terwijl we vol in beeld zaten. Voor deze totale service van 4 koffie werd 18,25 euro gerekend. Gemiddeld dus boven de 4,50 euro per kopje. Jammer dat deze mooie plek zulke slechte service biedt, geen aanrader!

La perfection. After a long bike ride, an apérol à la hollandaise, 4 delicious bitterballen, fresh morels (a top dish), super friendly service, and a chef who likes to share his knowledge. Dutch cuisine in an international atmosphere, what more can you ask for ???

Tengo que decir, después de haber leído las críticas, y bastante cortantemente rechazado el año pasado cuando llegamos sin una reserva, mi hijo y yo estábamos un poco aprensivos acerca de nuestra reserva para el almuerzo de hoy. Deben haber cambiado de personal recientemente, ya que tuvimos una de las comidas más memorables que hemos tenido en mucho tiempo. La ubicación y el entorno es excepcional, en lo que se siente como un pueblo pesquero remoto en las afueras de Amsterdam, tiene una especie de sensación de Soho House. La cocina es visible desde el comedor de los cuales hay 2 con un pequeño comedor privado en la planta baja, con una barra larga y hay un embarcadero de aspecto muy fresco en la parte delantera con más restaurantes que solo puedo imaginar que son increíbles en el verano. El servicio desde la llegada hasta la salida fue cálido, muy acogedor y muy bien informado tanto de la comida como de los vinos. Cada plato está explicado en detalle, están extremadamente orgullosos de los platos holandeses utilizando ingredientes locales (incluso un parmesano holandés) , y la carta de vinos por copa está bien pensada y una buena muestra de blancos alemanes y austriacos y tintos españoles y franceses. Hablar de una copa de vino que cuesta 14€ es cierto, pero para la más cara, y el vino de la ‘casa’ comienza en 8€ la copa, una ganga. La carta de botellas es extensa y tiene vinos a precio de todo tipo de cartera. La comida es excelente, creativa y muy del norte de Europa, así que espere sabores diferentes e interesantes a la comida típica francesa o italiana a la que estamos acostumbrados. El pan con mantequilla de hierbas es una delicia y yo comí el bacalao con langostinos, una mezcla realmente interesante de sabores que son dignos del paseo en bicicleta desde el centro de Amsterdam. Si eres de Londres o de cualquier otra gran ciudad de Europa, este restaurante NO es caro como algunos parecían pensar. Quizás son de Hull y solo se comieron en una cosechadora antes. Definitivamente este es un viaje gastronómico que vale la pena hacer.

Restaurant Mark is without a doubt one of my favorite places in the Netherlands. Everything is just right here: from the stylish, well-thought-out design to the extremely attentive and professional service. But it is above all the food that is truly star-worthy – every course is a flavor explosion, perfectly balanced and beautifully presented. When the weather is nice, the terrace on the water is highly recommended. The atmosphere is relaxed but refined, and you notice that everything here is done with love and craftsmanship. You don't just come here for a quick coffee or a single glass of wine, but for a complete culinary experience. A place where you take your time, enjoy and are continually surprised. Highly recommended!

Delicious food. Great place and surprising service.

Restaurant Mark is zonder twijfel een van mijn favoriete plekjes in Nederland. Alles klopt hier: van de stijlvolle, doordachte inrichting tot de uiterst attente en professionele service. Maar het is vooral het eten dat echt sterrenwaardig is – elke gang is een smaakexplosie, perfect in balans en prachtig gepresenteerd. Bij mooi weer is het terras aan het water een absolute aanrader. De sfeer is ontspannen maar verfijnd, en je merkt aan alles dat hier met liefde en vakmanschap wordt gewerkt. Je komt hier niet zomaar voor een snelle koffie of een enkel glas wijn, maar voor een complete culinaire ervaring. Een plek waar je de tijd neemt, geniet en steeds weer verrast wordt. Een echte aanrader!

What a gem. I always go to the farm for my raw milk. Decided to stop for lunch and their menu is nothing short of impressive. Also an imoressive wine selection that rivals Michelin star restaurants and fantastic cocktails.

We had an amazing dinner at De Mark! Thank you everyone including chefs, waiters for unforgettable experience. The food and the ambiance is spectacular definitely recommended! Taste of the every food was really good and remarkable. The wine menu is so wide and never hesitate to ask for suggestions. My fav dish was tomato tartar, it is creative and so delicious ♥️ definitely will come later.

We had a beautiful dinner at De Mark during our staycation at De Durgerdam. Major highlights were the North Sea crab salad and the sweetbreads. Whatever the sauce was on the sweetbreads, I wish we had a bottle to take home! The cheese plate is really exceptional, and this comes from a certified cheese nerd. If you stay overnight, do not miss the breakfast! We’re still trying to recreate the magic of the eggs. Our toddler was also very well cared for in the whole experience.

Fine and delicious cuisine in a superb decor with character. We had a snack and the desserts were fabulous, original and surprising. We will return for dinner. The place is also magnificent, with a beautiful view of the bay.

I highly recommend this place to everyone! From the moment you arrive, you can feel the stress of daily life disappear. The atmosphere is warm, welcoming, and very cozy. Every member of the staff works here with passion, and it shows – their knowledge, enthusiasm, and genuine joy in hosting make the experience unique and incredible. The food is original, full of flavour, and perfect for vegetarians as well. Everything is homemade, and leftovers are creatively reused, so you can enjoy guilt-free. I recommend to stay overnight in the hotel as the rooms are super luxurious, with a very comfortable bed and a beautiful bathroom. And then in the morning, you wake up to the most beautiful sunrise above the lake. Make sure to stay for breakfast too. Definitely the best omelette I have ever tasted. This is an experience you don’t want to miss!

Superb! We had my birthday dinner and another dinner during our stay at the boutique hotel, plus all our breakfasts. Their staff are absolutely outstanding and the food is creative and delicious. I really loved the sour cherry old fashioned and the pheasant.

We had a wonderful dinner, the atmosphere is great, the staff are wonderful and we had a wonderful evening. There was enough choice for my pregnant wife in non-alcoholic drinks and enough dishes that he could eat. The salad with crab was a bit too salty for my taste, but that is the only thing I can say about another great evening!

Een mooi, knus restaurant met heel goede, originele keuken. Veel vegetarische gerechten. De noten pate was verrukkelijk evenals de haas en het peer desert. Wel aan de prijs, maar het zeker waard. De drank (glas wijn) is tikje te duur, maar het moet ergens mee verdient worden. Puntje eraf omdat engels de voertaal is en de belabberde parkeermogelijkheden. (Bij verlaten voetbalterrein).

Super nice tent with even nicer toilets in idyllic Durgerdam. Been here for lunch and enjoyed every dish. Especially the mushroom dish, the tomato steak tartare and also the cod with sauerkraut. Great service and they also had quite a few options for the non-alcoholic among us.

We had a great meal, really surprising and certainly not standard. Good portions and no unnecessarily artificial frills. The service was good! The atmosphere of the restaurant too, a really great place, very classic, without being stiff. Highly recommended!
