Superbly located in the middle of the forest, with hiking trails everywhere, and with a bit of luck you might see wildlife.

Fantastic! Delicious food, generous portions, highly recommended, and a beautiful location! The snow made it difficult for some cars to leave the parking lot, but no worries, the staff helped push and shovel the snow. What great service! The staff are truly fantastic, very friendly and helpful! Huge compliments to you!

We spontaneously wanted to grab a quick bite to eat in the afternoon. We chose De Ossenstal, partly because of its beautiful location in the woods. Despite being incredibly busy, we were given a (reserved) table. It was also a frequent visitor, so the flow of people was good, and we were able to stay seated without being rushed. We did have to wait a bit for our food because it was so busy, but it was served fairly quickly after a short wait. I thought my fried eggs were a bit runny; they could have been cooked a bit longer. Otherwise, everything was excellent, and the staff were very friendly and kept everything running smoothly.

A friend recommended De Ossenstal. I don't think the front of the restaurant has much of a charm, but inside it's so lovely! I was incredibly surprised by the atmosphere: both the exuberant Christmas spirit and the murals and details, like the wildlife camera and nature sounds in the restrooms. We went there twice this week during our vacation. Once for lunch and once for dinner. The food is delicious, the pancakes are amazing, and the staff is helpful and friendly.

We enjoyed delicious pancakes in a bustling Ossenstal. Despite the crowd, the staff managed to serve the entire room quickly and without stress, and even took the time to offer our dog a bowl of water. Fantastic!

Sometimes we had to wait a long time for a server. I had to go get someone from the bar myself. The food, however, arrived quickly. The kids' pancake was delicious. The hamburger was still completely raw inside, so I left it.

A great spot for a bite to eat and a drink. And the perfect place to start a lovely forest walk.

The staff (young people) are very friendly, helpful, patient, and hospitable. Unfortunately, you can't say the same for the woman, who is about 50 years old, with the short, snappy haircut. She's unfriendly, impatient, quite rude, and absolutely not hospitable. The food was good, though.

We had a reservation for two people. At that moment, the waitress didn't see any available tables for us. We were seated at a very long table by the window, which felt a bit uncomfortable. Later, she did come back to us, apologizing and asking if we wanted to move to another table. The food was good, and the staff was friendly. There was a Christmas tree in the middle of the restaurant.

I came to eat at this restaurant with my friend, who had just arrived from France. The atmosphere is very calm, with the touch of nature we were looking for, which is very pleasant. The dishes are well presented, with good portions, and the food is good. I recommend it!

We usually come for the delicious pancakes. Yesterday I made a different choice, and unfortunately, it was too salty for me, but that might just be a personal preference. The atmosphere and service are always great! A small note: it seems to be a trend to address people in the past tense... (would you like something to drink)? No, I'd like something to drink now. Had you already made a choice? No, I have made a choice. Something to keep in mind. Furthermore, the restaurant was decorated in a wonderfully festive Christmas atmosphere! Very nice!!

A cozy Christmas atmosphere already in mid-November. The nature images and sounds are also lovely. The pancakes are rather thin for such a high price. Tasty, but quite expensive. The beef slices on the salad were overcooked (kept warm too long?). Friendly staff and fast service.

We've been coming here for years because of its beautiful location. The pancakes are still delicious, but the service has deteriorated significantly: apparently, the waitstaff or the kitchen can't handle the pressure. We had to wait over 20 minutes for our drinks, while the pancakes took over an hour! Hopefully, something will improve soon, because a pancake that costs between 16 and 18 euros and then having to wait so long is just not right anymore. It also seems like there are more tables than before: it's incredibly crowded with barely any space between them. That's why I've given fewer stars.

We went for dinner with 4 adults and 1 child. The journey there was an experience in itself. A wide, bumpy forest path of considerable length. It was manageable, though. The welcome was good. The chairs were comfortable. The service was prompt. The food could have been more attentive. It took a while to order a second drink. We weren't even asked during the meal if everything was to our liking. The restaurant was attractively decorated. There's a children's play area outside. I didn't see it myself; I understand it was nice. The lighting wasn't very good. I had pea soup as a starter. It was very good. The fries were excellent. The spare ribs were good; for a five-star rating, they should have been seasoned more. The same applied to the chicken satay. The plate also contained overcooked vegetables. I thought this was a mistake. I mentioned this when I paid, and they responded very well. Excellent. I would definitely go back.

Beautifully situated in the middle of the woods, the food was delicious. The Zwolle mustard soup and the "Osje" (Ox) for dessert are highly recommended. The pancakes were also delicious, crispy and piping hot, served almost simultaneously to everyone at the table (7 people). The service was excellent, despite the crowds; they were very friendly and service-oriented—in short, a great team! After a long walk in the beautiful surroundings, I finally enjoyed an Ossenstal pancake again after more than 50 years. Still delicious, and indeed filling. I don't think this restaurant needs a recommendation; it's already very busy.

A lovely restaurant serving primarily pancakes but also a variety of other lunch and dinner dishes. A small playground is visible from inside. And of course, excellent hiking trails, with a deer park and sheepfold just a few minutes' drive away.

Nice place. Too bad they only cater to diabetes with zero drinks. No whole-wheat pancakes, unfortunately.

They don't have oat milk, ridiculous pancakes, etc. They could all be lactose-free, but then they don't have lactose-free milk...? Poor, slow service. It takes a while to order, and then you have to wait another 20-30 minutes for the food to arrive. The restrooms smell very bad and definitely need replacing, as there are no hooks for coats/bags, etc.

In a beautiful location. We had to wait a long time for food and drinks and weren't offered a second drink. We were supposed to leave after 1.5 hours because we had a group reservation. However, the online reservation stated that the reservation was for 2 hours. Otherwise, the staff was very friendly and approachable.

October 22, 2025, arrived around 7:00 PM and, as always, received a warm welcome. We were quickly and friendly served at our table; everything went smoothly, as we're used to. However, after that, there seemed to be a staff overflow, because from that point on, we didn't receive any further attention. We would have liked to order some drinks during our meal, but we didn't get the chance. Meanwhile, a few boys were mainly busy with each other, laughing and playing with trays. It's nice that there's a good atmosphere, but less pleasant when you're thirsty and can't get any service. We therefore decided to skip dessert, pay, and leave. Too bad, dear business owner, because this way you miss out on an extra €40 for one table. We will definitely come back, but not around this time.

Absolutely not recommended!! We had made a reservation, but when we arrived, the table was still dirty. We were sitting right across from the kitchen, so we could see plates of food being thrown onto the sidewalk and then left for over 10 minutes before anyone checked. The waitstaff was too busy petting and feeding guests' dogs to serve food without washing their hands. We paid for our drinks and left, because after 45 minutes, our pancakes were still nowhere to be seen.

It was an unexpected gamble to eat there, it was super busy but just be patient and you will get a delicious pancake. Top address with friendly staff who run their legs off.

It's a shame the outside tap for the horses isn't working yet, but the staff member resolved it well. It's always wonderful to be there with your horse!

We made a reservation at 5 p.m. on a busy Sunday evening. When we took our order, we were told it could take half an hour. Perfectly fine. After waiting an hour, we went to ask. We were told it could definitely take another fifteen minutes. We asked again, and then they told us they'd forgotten us. Finally, after waiting two hours, we received our order. A friendly employee apologized, and we were given free pancakes. We weren't the only ones who had to wait long. Several other guests left because their orders hadn't arrived.

If you want to eat out in the forest and feel you're in nature this is the place to be. Enough parking space and signed walking routes from here as well for the little ones. Today we visit again Sept-2025 and the food and ambiance was still good but waiting 65 minutes for your food is just not ok. They should upgrade there kitchen with a pancake carousel.

Beautiful outdoor patio in the woods. Always fun to go there. But...keep it a bit cleaner. Especially by the toilet; the bucket is always full, and the hallway is always messy. But...friendly staff. Ossestal is fun for everyone.
