Highly recommended. Super relaxed atmosphere. Nice drinks. Food was so delicious that you kept eating. The restaurant was also quite full. We had a shared plate with chicken, lamb, beef, vegetables and of course the pancakes to eat it with. Dessert with fried banana could not be missed.

Had dinner Friday night. The restaurant was full, always a good sign. Friendly service, nice menu [crocodile meat was not available but plenty of choice]. Location is nice and cozy with an African atmosphere. I can especially recommend the menu for 2 people, even good eaters can't finish it. Excellent prices, good value for money. We went home satisfied.

The experience with this restaurant from the very first call was really good and smooth! I places a booking for 9 people, meanwhile I did change amount and there was bo problems with it what is highly appreciated! From very first moment we were amazed by all deco and everything around us! Restaurant is small but also very cosy, we enjoyed our time there✨ Service was very good! Everything we order came actually immediately! Food was delicious and won’t be able to decide what was the best from our Shared Plate (nr 38👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼🤤🤤🤤!) Stuff is nice & friendly.. even we knew we were a bit annoying! 🤭😇 Really nice place for a date or going out with friends! Place was reccomended to me by a friend and I will definitely continue reccomending as wel!

Eten was prima voor 1 keer. De bediening heeft nog wat te leren. Niets uitgelegd over het eten, lang wachten om drinken te bestellen en geen vragen of het had gesmaakt. Toch een goede tip gegeven maar daar kon geen bedankje vanaf.

Nice restaurant, busy on weekends and good food based on Africa. And then you taste something different, you don't necessarily need a fork and knife, which makes it fun if you are open to it. Just one, you don't have to leave it for the price, very affordable. Friendly service, nice experience.

One of the best tasting foods of my life. However, the staff took very long time on coming and check on us. They kinda forgot us but maybe it was because we sat outside alone. But, other than that. AMAZING.

Tasty food. Eritrean or Ethiopian, it turns out to be the same. No cutlery, you take the food with a piece of a kind of pancake. Nice.

Many people don't know this, but if you love delicious food (generally meat), this is a must-do/go! Traditional food from a large bowl with your hands and injera (kind of pancake). Separately and with cutlery is also possible. We eat here regularly and it is always excellent. Recommended are: kitfo, gored gored, zigni. The coconut beer is special!

Pros: Cool interior decor and presentation of the dishes. Good flavours and spices in the solo meat platter. As an Indian, I enjoyed eating the food with my hands and respect them for implementing that! Cons: The spicy minced beef in the Kitfo was a bit too dry for my liking as there was no sauce/curry with it. The place was packed on the weekend and therefore quite loud which made it difficult to have a conversation.

Beautiful place with very kind servers. The food was delicious and very nicely made. I’ve had my share of East African cuisine and I have to say that this was very tasty & made with love. The Ethiopian tea was also very tasty and nicely served. Will definitely be coming back!!

Menu with specialties from both the Horn of Africa and West Africa.

Gezellig restaurant met vriendelijk personeel. Wij gingen voor krokodil. Staat op de kaart dus dat moet ik dan proberen. Blijkt dat ze dat al een jaar niet meer serveren. Beetje jammer want online lees je dat niet terug. De pindasoep en Full waren het alternatief als voorgerecht en dat was erg lekker. Als hoofdgerecht hebben we een gerecht met alles wat genomen voor drie personen. Wel pittig maar erg lekker. Als toetje wilden we ijs met vijgen. Bleken ze geen vijgen te hebben. Dus de fruitsalade genomen maar dat was Nigel inspiratieloos met was druif, beetje ananas en onrijpe meloen.

Waited 15 minutes after getting a table to get a menu. I had to get it myself because they totally forgot about us. After we ordered they made us wait for an 45 min and they just brought drinks and forgot our food. I asked about if they took our order and they just went to ask and never came back to give us a situation report . I go there 15 minutes later and they totally forgot about everything. They still made me pay for 2 shitty drinks I would have never ordered otherwise. I left when they couldn’t tell me what food I ordered. What a disastrous experience. No idea about the food but the service sucks.

Really nice restaurant. I’ve never eaten African food but I will sure repeat it! Atmosphere is really nice. Food is really good and the portions are really nice as well. Spicy is spicy. We liked a lot the injera with lamb. Fruit beers are interesting to taste.

Really nice, generous servings of spicy meats and chicken in a uniquely African way. All good, though personally would have liked a bit more spinach/more vegs in general.

A really nice restaurant, decorated with authentic African items and decorations.. The food was really great, and the way of eating was really fun and hilarious at the same time. The only downside for me is that the toilets could use a makeover with an African touch... otherwise highly recommended.

This place has never disappointed me with it's tasty delicacy. The food selection is great and uniquely served. From spicy to mild to vegetarian options. The only downside was that service was quiet slow but maybe due to short staff but hopefully it's taken care of soon. Otherwise a great place with superb ambience and great atmosphere

This restaurant is different. I entered with an atmosphere as if it were actually Africa. The beautiful drawings and canvases with beautiful cultural images. Very neat. In terms of cleanliness it was okay. Just thought it was a shame that the table was sticky and that the hot toilet had an unpleasant smell. Unfortunately they didn't have exactly what I wanted to drink, but what was on the menu and the same goes for the food (which I actually came for because it was online) The food was served really well. Well cooked, rich in flavor and I have absolutely no doubts about the hygienic preparation of food. I was treated nicely and politely by the staff and this is definitely recommended for the next time!!

An inconspicuous from the outside, beautifully decorated and colored restaurant from the inside with dishes brought together from all over Africa. As newbies we ordered a platter and were not disappointed, it was super tasty and looked appealing! It took a bit of getting used to doing the whole thing without cutlery but with bread, but that worked too. The waiters fit the authentic image and were super friendly and accommodating.

Had a very tasty meal tonight (vegetarian dish for 2 people.) The staff (I saw 2 staff 😉) was very friendly. I would definitely eat there again!

The Taste of Africa is a special restaurant where we like to come when we have something to celebrate. The service is always super friendly and the food tastes delicious. You look at the beautiful paintings on the wall.

Delicious food from many countries in Africa. I enjoyed a sumptuous lamb with vegetables and njera (Ethiopian bread) in the very lively, colorful and cozy restaurant in the heart of Rotterdam.

Very nice new experience in Rotterdam! Restaurant is fantastically decorated. The man at the table next to me asked for cutlery, but that is of course not the authentic experience. It was nice to see him use the pancakes after an explanation from the gentleman at the counter. Definitely recommended!!

We had the tasting plate for 2 people and were thrilled. There were various meat dishes, fish and vegetables. If you like it spicy, this is the place for you. We also ordered the ginger beer and didn't know it, unfortunately it was more like a ginger shot in a Kölsch glass but worth an experience. Friendly staff, thank you.

Eating here for the first time, especially because you eat with your hands, appealed to me. We ordered the extensive dish for 2 people and my husband ordered a beer which was then served in a coconut (not recommended). The food was certainly not bad, tasty meat and fish, but it wasn't really much for 60€. Staff were nice but were spoken to in half Dutch and half English and asked for advice on choosing a beer, but they didn't know because they didn't drink beer. The place is very nicely decorated and very busy on Saturday evenings.

Very overpriced. Paid around 28€ per person, the food was below average and it was not a satisfying experience. For this price, you’d expect more. Service also a bit cold.

We werden verwelkomd door de ‘boss himself’ en na een gezellig praatje konden we een tafeltje uitkiezen. Vlotte en zeer vriendelijke en goeie bediening. Een ouderwets goede bediening. Zeer vriendelijk en geduldig en alles met een lach! Het eten was ontzettend lekker. 1 x vega enjera uitgebreid en 1 x de lamsvlees met enjera. Boven onze verwachting goed. Wij komen op deze locatie zeker weer terug. Dank voor het fijne en lekkere etentje.

Plaats eigenlijk nooit een review, maar wil toch echt mijn complimenten geven aan dit restaurant! Heerlijk eten, vriendelijk personeel en stel je hebt nog steeds honger als je het restaurant verlaat, dan denk ik dat je toch even langs de dokter moet gaan om te checken of je geen lintworm hebt. Bij het bestellen van een schaal met verschillende gerechten uit de Afrikaanse keuken is de keuze reuze en meer dan genoeg variatie zodat er voor iedereen wat lekkers tussen zit. Na het eten was ik helemaal voldaan en vond het zo zonde om de rest van het eten weg te doen, dat we dat mee hebben genomen en de volgende dag nog een keer de smaak sensatie hebben ervaren. Voor mij 1 van de beste restaurants in Rotterdam en zeker een aanrader!

We had a great time! Rye Smaak van Afrika menu for 2 people was super tasty and fresh and great portion size for 2 people. The shiraz went well with the food, and the banana bailey's dessert was good as well. Really recommend trying it! Also the experience of eating with your hands is nice

Heerlijk gegeten bij de Smaak van Afrika. We hadden een schaal met verschillende gerechtjes die we aten met pannenkoekjes. Goede smaken en variatie. Service is erg vriendelijk. Het toilet van de zaak behoeft renovatie.

Absolutely amazing food, this was our first experience with any sub-saharan african food and I cannot recommend this place enough! For reference we had the Jolof Rice, Gord Gord and Kitfo. (Jolof rice not pictured) Food overall is not very expensive for Rotterdam, especially seeing the quantity you get (not to any detrement of the quality!) For the beer-lovers, they have several flavours which are not too common and are very tasty. Service was great, the waiter assisted us in our choice of food and told us the proper way to eat the food. Finally, the atmosphere of the restaurant is immaculate. While the outside isnt too great, the inside is leagues better, its more tightly packed than usual restaurants are which gives a very coze feeling. Overall, I would definitely come here again to try many more of their amazing dishes!

Heerlijk gegeten en fantastisch vriendelijke lieve bediening!!

Jaren geleden enkele keren bij zusterbedrijf Viva Afrika gegeten. Nu wilde ik graag weer genieten van een heerlijk diner met unieke ervaring, en dit delen met mijn partner die nog niet eerder hier gegeten had. Uitgebreide keuzes op de kaart, ook voor de vega(n) liefhebbers! We hebben genoten van het lamsvlees en rundergehakt met enjara. De linzen hebben een lekker pitje en de hele ervaring is natuurlijk om alles tot de laatste kruimel met je vingers te eten. Partner heeft duidelijk met verrukking zitten smullen en heeft voor thuis weer een nieuwe uitdaging gevonden om te koken. Afgesloten met een Kaapverdische punch waar een flinke scheut drank in zit. Goed excuus om weer eens richting Rotterdam te gaan, want in deze hoek van Nederland kennen we dit niet!

Heerlijk gegeten in dit kleurrijke restaurant. zo leuk om niet met bestek te eten, maar gewoon met je handen. Eten is ruim voldoende en we hebben genoten.

Heerlijk gegeten! We hebben de mix aan gerechten genomen van Oost Afrikaanse komaf en genoten van de lekkere mix. Ook Afrikaanse drankjes! Het was echt heerlijk! Mooi gedecoreerde restaurant en ze hadden ook veel vega en vegan opties.
