Viva Afrika in Rotterdam Centrum

We hebben hier vandaag heerlijk gegeten, van alles wat geproefd, wat een verwennerij. Heerlijke gerechte van lam en kip gegeten met de lekkerste specerijen op smaak gebracht. Goede Afrikaanse biertjes. De medewerkers zijn ontzettend vriendelijk en gastvrij. We komen graag nog eens terug.

Op eerste kerstdag werden we gastvrij ontvangen in Viva Afrika. Het is een sfeervol aangeklede omgeving, met zeer vriendelijke bediening. Het was voor ons de eerste kennismaking met de Oost-Afrikaanae keuken en het was heerlijk. De porties waren niet heel groot, maar voldoende voor de gemiddelde eter. Aanrader voor wie nieuwe keukens wil uitproberen.

Heel erg lekker eten, de porties zijn ruim voldoende, vriendelijk personeel en het ziet er heel sfeervol en leuk uit in het restaurant.

What a nice restaurant with an African atmosphere! The decoration is colorful and cheerful. In the background you hear African music. The service is very friendly and helpful. If you are eating African food for the first time, they will happily think along with you. The menu is divided into West and East African dishes. I personally ordered the spicy jollof rice. This was delicious: spicy, richly filled and slightly spicy. The portion was big enough, don't worry about that. My wife and I both wanted a beer. She ordered a banana beer (Mongozo) and I ordered a slightly cloudy beer from Eritrea (Ma Suwa). We are both purely positive and will definitely come back!

Food was tasty, we had the platter and that is really a lot. The two of us couldn't finish it. Service very friendly and it looks very cozy inside. I would definitely visit sometime!

It's so special how much I paid for ridiculously little food. I am East African myself, and I have never eaten such a bad meal. Dishes are quite “white”, so to speak. Potatoes were hard, vegetables were missing, I call and am told that it is normal to get so little food. And if the vegetables are missing, nothing is done about it because this is how it is. If the food was tasty I would say ála. So you pay for everything. With all due respect, save your money and order somewhere else.

As a true injera lover, I unfortunately have to honestly say that I was disappointed. The quantity you get compared to the price does not match. The service was also really disappointing. In terms of food, quite okay. But the quality is a bit on the poor side.

We ordered 4 meat dishes from Viva Afrika. We were given plenty of Enjera, a side dish of potato, cabbage and lentils. The taste of the meat was okay. However, the containers were minimally filled and we missed salad and vegetables. When we called for an explanation, there was little customer service. Unfortunately, as an enjera lover we will order somewhere else next time.

The prices are *HIGH* relative to the value. We have visited based on a friend's suggestion and purchased the most expensive plate in the restaurant. However, we observed that the portions here are smaller than the same dish at another branch. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant due to my negative experience with portion sizes compared to prices. Additionally, out of the five plates we tried, two were good, one was acceptable, and two were unsatisfactory. -- Replying to the owner's comment -- I appreciate the owner response, but it's disheartening to receive a dismissive reply. My dissatisfaction stems from the fact that the most expensive dish I ordered didn't meet expectations in terms of taste, and the portions were noticeably smaller than those at other branches. Instead of addressing the issue, your response seems to deny the legitimacy of my complaint. A more constructive approach would involve acknowledging the concerns and working towards resolving them. I expected better customer service and a willingness to address valid feedback.

I love the food here, it's so tasty. If you choose a standard dish, the food is very good value but you can also go all out and choose the mixed dish where you can try a few different dishes together, this is €28 but great way to try new things if you're not sure what to order. The portions are really huge and I could take my leftovers home with me. The staff and atmosphere are very nice too.

Great African restaurant experience! Easy reservation, ideal for large groups, charming decor. Delicious Jassa and Soqhar, perfect for spice lovers. Ice cream dessert was superb. Menu lacking photos, but mango beer is a must-try! Overall, highly recommended!

What a wonderful atmosphere here, warm colors and warm dimmed lights with afro vibes music that is not too loud. Friendly service, food was tasty. Even if you eat gluten-free, this is highly recommended. Usually I am completely overstimulated after a restaurant experience, but here the opposite was true.. ✨

What a surprise this was. Had a delicious meal and enjoyed a surprisingly tasty Ethiopian beer. Friendly service and the place was full from 7:00 PM, which I can understand. Don't forget to make a reservation to avoid disappointment.

A restaurant full of African characteristics. It was my first time to try an African restaurant, which made me feel very fresh. I experienced the unique food and beer of East Africa. It was very delicious and well worth a visit!

Viva Afrika offers a wide selection of dishes from Africa, it has a casual and colorful atmosphere and good service. We stopped by for a chill dinner for 2; tried the jollof rice and pagasisus dish (assa-kelwa), both were quite flavorful, except for the side salads which were dull and unseasoned. Assa kelwa is served with the enjera bread, a sour flatbread, that resembles a pancake and it's nice if you're into sour tastes, I personally love it. For dessert, we had the tjakrie and baked bananas, and I think the tjakrie was the highlight of the night for me. It was delicious and not too sweet, like a "down to earth" rice pudding. In general, they have decent portions, and the food is good value in general. We were satisfied with the service, our food arrived quickly and the staff was helpful. I skipped the beers and went for a wine, and I was pleasantly surprised by it, they have a decent selection of wines from both South Africa and France. But do try out their specialty African beers if you haven't had them before. Would recommend if you want to try out African cuisine in Rotterdam.

We were at Viva Afrika last weekend. We had a table reserved via their website, but generally, many tables for two people were available. We shared the vegetarian platter, which was amazing and frankly a bargain given what you can pay in some restaurants. The Restaurant is very nicely decorated and conveniently located, close to a Metro stop and the Depot / the Kunsthal. Only (very slight downside) to our visit was that we sometimes waited quite a bit, e.g., for getting a menu to order desserts. But it was definitely worth it, so I would highly recommend the restaurant!

Vanavond genoten van een lekker vegetarische schotel. Een feestmaaltijd voor 2 personen. Erg lekker en gevarieerd en alles eten samen met een soort pannekoeken. Leuk eens geen bestek te gebruiken. Een aanrader.

Heel gezellig tentje, de heer die ons bediende was uiterst vriendelijk en behulpzaam. De presentatie van het eten was goed, en dat er met de handen gegeten wordt was een leuke aanvulling. Vooral het pannetje met lamsvlees was heerlijk! Als feedback puntje miste wij wel Afrikaanse muziek op de achtergrond.

Het eten was zooooo zo goed, één van de betere restaurants met oa Ethiopische keuken. Verder superleuke sfeer, heerlijk overdreven :)

East-African fare, decently done: so hands-on eating with little pancakes. Good vegan options. Eritrean and Ethiopian beers, some cocktails. What I liked most though was the laid-back, almost soothing atmosphere. Service was alert enough, just a cozy, relaxed vibe, brought on by bright yet subdued colors and easygoing African music at the right volume.

Dit restaurant is absoluut fantastisch! De Afrikaanse inrichting zorgt voor een ongelooflijk sfeervolle ambiance. Het personeel is erg vriendelijk en gastvrij, wat meteen bijdraagt aan een positieve ervaring. Wat betreft het eten, we hebben genoten van een heerlijke veganistische Afrikaanse platter, met meerdere verschillende hapjes. Ook de linzensoep is een absolute aanrader! De smaken waren verrukkelijk en het feit dat heel de platter volledig veganistisch was, maakte het nog beter. Maar dat is nog niet alles - de typische Afrikaanse bieren die ze aanbieden, vooral het mango bier, zijn een absolute aanrader. Het feit dat je dit bier uit een kokosnoot kunt drinken, is echt heel erg leuk. Wij zijn hier al meermaals geweest en genieten keer op keer van het heerlijke eten!

This is becoming a restaurant I can rely for regular visits. The food is comforting, healthy, feels homely, and is unique to other Rotterdam offerings. Special notes: restaurant is very true to their roots, good vegetarian options, and well designed menu in terms of its variety.

Wij hadden het verrassingsmenu voor 3 personen a €90,00 . Dit was echt heel weinig eten voor dat bedrag! En het eten was koud. We zijn nu onderweg naar MacDonald omdat we nog trek hebben. Wij gaan gemiddeld 1 a 2 x per week uit eten, dit was echt goed en niet genoeg.

Wir hatten hier lecker gegessen und wurden freundlich bedient. Es ist ein sehr authentisches Lokal. Das Essen ist sehr empfehlenswert.

A very nice atmosphere and good food, mainly Ethiopian. We shared a big meal in real Ethiopian style with the typical ngera, fermented crepe of an Ethiopian cereal, and small dishes to eat with it. Apart from the meat that was tough, all the rest was very tasty. Also to drink you have some African option. The service is quick and precise.

I have to admit that I had never tried an African restaurant before coming here, so I was a bit skeptic at the beginning but... if you like food and if you like to try new things, definitely you have to came here. The staff is not the friendliest but the food is worth it. Ah, and... do not forget to eat with your hands! Here is one of the few places where you could do it without looking like a chromanon.

Ein großes Angebot an leckeren Speisen, Gäste schienen glücklich mit ihrem Essen zu sein, wir waren es auch ;) Alle waren sehr freundlich und zuvorkommend, mit Abstand die tollste Erfahrung in Rotterdams Restaurants ... Obwohn wir an der Straße saßen Ambiente 5Sterne, es hat alles gepasst !..

Leuk om eens een andere keuken te proberen. Heel geschikt ook voor grotere groepen. De speciaalbiertjes zijn een aanrader.

Das Essen ist einfach großartig! Wer es nicht scharf mag hat allerdings auch mit den „milden“ Gerichten ein kleines Problem 😂😂. Preis-Leistungsverhältniss ist super! Schade dass wir nur einen Tag in Rotterdam sind und das Restaurant kein zweites Mal mehr besuchen können. Können es mit gutem Gewissen weiterempfehlen!

Het eten hier is echt geweldig. Wat in combinatie met het kleurrijke decor en de bijzondere ambiance zorgt voor een gevoel van vakantie in eigen land. Ik ken Viva nu al een aantal jaar en kan met trots zeggen dat ik elk item op hun menu geprobeerd heb. Regelmatig kom ik terug, want deze exotische smaken raak je simpelweg niet zat. De positieve reacties van iedereen die ik voor het eerst meeneem helpen hierbij ook mee, omdat dit mij terugbrengt naar de eerste keer dat ik zelf hun ‘Assa Kelwa’ proefde. ✨Magical moment✨ Viva Afrika is een dikke vette aanrader. Best African food in town.
