We've been here several times and have always been very satisfied! We always order two glasses of Chardonnay and a bottle of water! Without any mention of the upcoming festival, the wine arrived in a plastic cup! Had they informed us beforehand, I would have politely declined! That's simply unacceptable…

Not recommended. We weren't served. After 20 minutes, we politely asked if we could order drinks. The rather unfriendly waitress said her colleague was responsible. He never came and seemed more preoccupied with his phone than with the guests. We left and went to Sunny & Co., a top-notch restaurant with incredibly friendly service.

I had the carrot and almond tart, which was quite different from typical tarts—truly outstanding and incredibly delicious. I accompanied it with a glass of excellent Argentinian red wine (Malbec). The service was very friendly, quick, and attentive. The atmosphere in the restaurant was very pleasant.

Today I ate the Berliner mini Chickenburger and it was fine in itself, but the fries were soft, soggy, and very greasy. When paying, the boy asked if everything was to our liking. I voiced my complaint; the boy didn't think the fries were good either and reprimanded the cook. Naturally, I had to pay the full price: €18.50 for 3 fries and a mini burger. It's a shame this was my first experience with Winterswijk, but Winterswijk deserves a second chance. Restaurant de Zwaan certainly won't. I will never go there again. The staff were terribly arrogant too.

The food and dessert are delicious, but one thing that needs to be improved is the hospitality or friendliness of the staff. We have interacted with three staff but all of them have something in common. They are unfriendly. For example, we asked where is the toilet and they don’t answer properly. Also, when we asked about the ingredients of the food and when ordering. The tone was so unfriendly. So I give one star for the service. I suggest to give staff appropriate training in this area. Overall, I will give it three stars.

We had the surprise menu today and I must say we were pleasantly surprised. All the dishes were surprising and of top quality. The waiter enthusiastically explained what was on our plates. The white wine he recommended turned out to be a very good pairing with the dishes. You could certainly pat yourselves on the back a bit more. My compliments to the chef(s) and the service staff. We had a fantastic evening. P.S. Joep is my alter ego, but we really did go out for dinner at your place tonight.

Unfortunately, the menu has changed. Now they stack three slices of toast on top of each other, bake them, hollow them out, put a poached egg inside, and top it with a lettuce leaf and a little bacon or salmon for €12.50. No butter, nothing to mask the dryness.

Cozy atmosphere, delicious food, friendly staff.

The food was great, but I would add a bit more purée and vegetables. That makes it just slightly less expensive, and it shouldn't cost much more...

A very small and unusual menu. We didn't really find anything we liked on it. However, we stayed to eat because we had already ordered drinks. We then ordered the duck breast with red cabbage and red wine sauce. The duck breast was good and cooked perfectly; the skin wasn't crispy but rather chewy. The red cabbage was hard to find on the plate, as a tiny mound of it was hidden under the duck breast. It came with a small slice of a kind of bread cake as a side dish. Along with two small bottles of non-alcoholic beer, we paid €65. Since we were still hungry, we then went to a snack bar for fries and a frikandel special.

We were in Winterswijk on Friday around 6:30 pm, looking for a restaurant for dinner – something other than fries with a frikandel (a type of sausage) 😊. It wasn't easy to find anything else, well, maybe we just didn't know the area. Anyway, we finally discovered Restaurant De Zwaan near the market square. It looked quite good from the outside, so we went in to see what it was like! We were the first guests, but we were greeted warmly, asked what we wanted, and allowed to choose a table! Let's just say small tables; they were quite tiny for two people. What does that tell us? The menu on the "table" only offered fast-food-style options. However, upon request, the waiter immediately brought us a different menu. This one offered a bit more variety – not a huge selection, but quite unique. We both ordered "duck," expecting something Asian. It kind of was, but the chef knew his craft and served the duck in his own unique way – kind of Eurasian, but delicious. Well, on the way home we ended up grabbing a big plate of fries and mayo somewhere; we wanted to go to bed feeling full, which isn't so easy here in Holland! 😁😆😉

This was our first time eating here, and we had salmon and guinea fowl. Both were delicious and highly recommended. The dessert and cappuccino were also very tasty.

Charming and spacious restaurant. Enjoyed a delicious soup after a lovely walk in the beautiful surroundings.

You have to wait a very long time for an order to be taken. But the final products are excellent. Delicious cookies with coffee, good quality milk on the cappuccino. Superb apple pie.

Before we started the 20km walk, I was able to use the restroom here (for free). After the walk, we had a drink and a bite to eat here.

29/12/2025: Enjoyed a venison dinner here in conjunction with the Villa Elise package. Friendly service, excellent value for money. The interior is spacious, with seating for 2 to 4 people in the lower section and larger groups in the upper section. This makes it easy to have conversations in the lower section.

Unfortunately, the food was rather poor. The steak was cold, very tough, and only two spoonfuls of mashed potato made it onto the plate. There were four waiters, but they seemed more interested in chatting than serving the customers, and the restaurant was at most 50% full. We went to a nicer place a few meters away afterward.

I ordered a naan bread with tuna salad, but half the ingredients were missing. Guacamole, cucumber salad, chili oil, and sesame seeds were missing. So, more than half the ingredients... I received half a naan bread with a bit of lettuce, red onion, and tuna salad. I told them I was missing a lot of ingredients. After a 10-minute wait, three containers arrived with the missing ingredients. A decent restaurant would take the naan bread back and remake it with all the ingredients. And all this for €14.50...

Delicious food, but the portions could be a little larger for the price.

I had breakfast there today. I had the "Happy Breakfast" for €16.50 plus scrambled eggs. It tasted great and the service was very friendly. I'd gladly come again. *****

The Sinterklaas afternoon couldn't go ahead, but Carlijn came by as a consolation gift with gingerbread dough and a few surprises. The children were thrilled: coloring pages, a poem from Sinterklaas, a present, and then the delicious dough. We still had a fantastic afternoon, and it really shows what De Zwaan is good at: going the extra mile for our guests. Thank you!

Top restaurant in every respect!

Large restaurant with a cozy atmosphere. I ordered a steak, and it was bland. The price/quality ratio is good.

We had a delicious three-course dinner with paired wines, refined dishes, and very competent service. And all for a very reasonable price.

The food was excellent. We hadn't booked, so we ended up at a higher table. We were told that if a lower table became available, we could swap. And indeed, the waiter politely informed us that we could move to a lower table if we wanted. And I think anything is possible. Around 7:00 PM, prime time for dinner, our neighbors were enjoying a nice beer and fries. The other neighbors only ordered a bottle of wine and water.

Unfortunately, I was disappointed today. The latte macchiato was only half full, the rest just foam. A polite complaint was ignored. The waffle cone was tiny and made entirely of sugar – mass-produced, I'd say. The apple pie was also nothing special. Very disappointing.

After a pleasant afternoon of shopping (where the weather unfortunately didn't cooperate), the three of us settled into Restaurant De Zwaan for a cup of coffee, tea, and hot chocolate. What a lovely place to warm up! The coffee was delicious, the pastries were superb, and the atmosphere was very pleasant. It was busy, but there were plenty of staff around, and the young man who served us was truly courteous, attentive, and with a smile. Many restaurants and cafes could learn a thing or two from this. We felt truly welcome and will definitely be back soon! ☕🍰

We had to wait a really long time—first for the menu and then to order, even though it was very quiet. We just left. Oh, and the fresh mint tea had one mint stick in it. Ugh.

We had a wonderful and super cozy meal with a truly fantastic hostess, Karlijn. Where else does it happen that you're picked up because it was pouring rain and our hotel was just too far to walk? They were incredibly hospitable. Next time we're in Winterswijk, we'll definitely be back.

If you read through the reviews it looks like they hate foreigners. I also got ignored and not served for like 20mins even though the place was almost empty. I left without eating or drinking anything. So don’t waste your time at this place and spend your money somewhere else.

A fine restaurant with delicious food and a fantastic apple pie. A typical Dutch restaurant. We always enjoy coming back.

The daily menu (sole, overcooked fennel, and a stale, spicy red sauce) was downright awful, a strange combination. The main course came without fries and salad; it had to be ordered separately. Apparently, even the glass of water had to be paid for, even though there were 10 of us. Poor value for money. Not worth repeating!

We kregen tafeltje aangeboden maar hebben ruim 20 min met een volle tafel van vorige bezoekers zitten wachten eer dat ze het kwamen ophalen bediening loopt te vaak met lege handen terug naar binnen. Na het bestellen van ons eten kwamen ze meteen met hoofdgerecht ..Voorgerecht vergeten op te schrijven.. hoe dan?? dit nadien goedgemaakt met desert ok maar toch. Verder was het hoofdgerecht erg lekker ...

Unusual flavor combinations that really hit the spot!

It was so much fun!! We had drinks and a delicious meal on Friday evening. It was a busy evening, but the staff were friendly and helpful.

The price-quality ratio is ridiculous! Two mini pieces of fish cost €26, and you have to order everything separately. Scam.

We wanted to have something to drink and lunch today, it took a very long time before we got anything, people next to us came later and had already finished their coffee when we finally got it.

Lang geleden hier goede ervaringen opgedaan, dus opnieuw naar De Zwaan. Het bedienend personeel werkte in onze ogen iets erg efficiënt. Gasten die later kwamen maar dichterbij de kassa zaten werden eerder bediend naar ons, één tafeltje verder werd niet eens gekeken. Pas heel veel later kwam iemand anders de bestelling opnemen. Op de lunchkaart ontbraken simpele, gangbare gerechten als een uitsmijter (hier is voldoende mee te variëren), testis of een broodje gezond. Ook verschilde onze verschillende gerechten qua grootte wel heel erg van elkaar. De een had een bord vol smaakvol gevarieerd met zalm, roerei, sla, 2 toast, De ander had een roomboter croissant met 2 cupjes boter en een knijpzakje met bon maman jam en een melk. De croissant was vettig en de boter veel te veel voor de kleine croissant ook de melk kwam in een erg klein glas. Zelfs voor iemand die geen grote eter is was dit wel ern heel karige lunch..... De toiletten bij de heren zijn zeer gedateerd: twee urinoirs wel heel erg dicht bij elkaar, zonder scheiding er tussen en 1 erg krap gewoon toilet waar je zelfs als slank persoon je kunt niet kunt keren... Akoestisch is het beneden ook niet erg prettig. Er is in het restaurang weinig dempingsmateriaal aangebracht (veel harde oppervlakken) waardoor je de gesprekken van anderen als wel heel erg hard ervaart. Erg jammer allemaal.

Terrible service, I waited more than 20 minutes and I left. I do not recommend it. Very bad service, on top of that, the waiters were looking at us and we called them and they went inside the restaurant instead of serving us. I do not recommend it to anyone.

Yesterday I came with my two sons and a friend. No one paid attention or greeted me. There were seven other people behind the bar eating. When we asked for service, there was no response. Finally, after 20-30 minutes, we left. We had forgotten a bag, which they quickly retrieved. We were surprised they even had time to take it away. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant to anyone!!!

It's beautifully located with a great atmosphere. The staff is very competent and friendly. We'd be happy to return.

A lovely restaurant in the heart of Winterswijk, right on the market square 👍. Here, men 🤵 or women 👩... or both... can take a break during their shopping trip and relax for the next round 😉 😀. Since we only had one drink here, I can't rate the food 🤷‍♂️.

Well... If you ask for an omelette with bacon, for example, it is immediately NO... there is no consultation or anything like that. It is SCRAMBLED EGGS, and an omelette is not possible. Besides, it was really not busy, but I had to wait at least 45 minutes for a "scrambled" egg before it was served. I will not come back here anyway

so quickly a small cappuccino and apple pie (i thought), the coffee was very good but this apple pie... after a few bites i left it because it was, very sweet and as if it was not baked, inside a layer of stringy dough, i do not recommend it, service quite efficient

Saturday night we had dinner here with four people, two couples. Service was great, friendly and fast. The main courses didn't include anything, no fries, rice, vegetables, salad, nothing, you have to order that separately which quickly makes it a lot more expensive and ensures that the price/quality ratio is skewed. The food of my three table companions was great, looked good and tasted good. I myself am crazy about chili con carne and can make it well. That's why I ordered the chili sin carne, without meat because that was on the menu. What I got on my plate was a can of reheated white beans in tomato sauce. And nothing more. They were really white beans, which is not what you would expect in chili, they should be brown beans or kidney beans, and a watery tomato extract mixed in, nothing more. I wouldn't be surprised if it really came from a can or jar, not a shred of anything that looked like vegetables seen and certainly not tasted. A disgrace, especially considering the rest of the dishes which were really good. Didn't say anything during the meal, we were with friends and you don't want to be the whiner. Ate three bites and took the adjusted fries. When they came to ask if it tasted good, I of course indicated that it didn't taste good and that it was a really bad dish. The solution offered was to choose a new dish (hello friend, everyone has finished eating, and my appetite is gone, what do you think?) Or a dessert on the house. I did the latter. Normally your entire dish is taken off the bill (at a good restaurant that also handles complaints well) and you get a dessert or drink on the house for the unpleasant experience. Here the white beans in tomato sauce were still on the bill. Too bad. This was really a blunder. No more De Zwaan for me.

We had lunch here twice. The food and the ambiance are excellent. That is also why we went back. The service could be better. It takes quite a while before someone comes to take your order, but also asking if everything is to your liking is not an option. Also not when paying.

De Zwaan Winterswijk!!! The seats are reserved and unoccupied, and guests are scrambling for a seat. I've been sitting here for a good hour, and more than 20 guests are eager to spend their money. I think, or rather, believe, money isn't that important to you. Only satisfied customers.

Food and drinks fine. Been 3 times and each time it took a long time to place an order and sometimes also before you get a drink or food. Doesn't seem well organized. 1 time after ordering still forgot 2 customers.

What a fantastic experience at Restaurant De Zwaan in Winterswijk! From the moment we walked in we felt welcome thanks to the warm and attentive service. The restaurant has an attractive, stylish interior that fits perfectly with the culinary experience. The menu was varied and creative, with an eye for detail and local ingredients. Each dish was beautifully presented and full of flavor – a real culinary surprise. The main course in particular was a highlight: perfectly cooked and beautifully balanced in terms of flavors.

Located in the middle of Winterswijk right on the market, this restaurant offers very good and attentive service and a cozy atmosphere. Our dog was also very welcome. The food was very tasty; for me as a fish lover, the stuffed, deboned bream, which was still served as a whole fish with head and tail fin, was a culinary highlight. A restaurant that we will definitely visit again.

Wir sind regelmäßig im De Zwaan in Winterswijk und können es nur empfehlen. Die Karte wechselt regelmäßig und alle Gerichte sind gut zubereitet. Bei unserem letzten Besuch stach besonders die Shortrib hervor, ganz toll! Der einzige Kritikpunkt ist, dass der ansonsten freundliche Service, etwas schneller sein könnte. Ansonsten würde ich mich freuen wenn man große Biere servieren würde.

Honestly...it was soooooooo good. Price performance is really acceptable. The starter was 13.50 and the meat was 25.50. Fries were ordered separately.

Gezellig restaurant, de gerechten zijn prachtig opgemaakt en de bediening is vriendelijk, maar… ik zou de volgende keer een erg simpel gerecht nemen. We hadden een wild menu wat duidelijk te gecompliceerd was voor de keuken. Het hoofdgerecht was een sous vide gegaard ree biefstuk wat niet was aangebraden. Alle gerechten hadden erg veel smaken, een beetje te veel. De bediening was erg traag.

Quite busy for a Monday evening, but the service is very slow and seems messy/disorganized. We had to wait almost an hour for our main course. The atmosphere is great, but the sound of the over-enthusiastic coffee machine ruins the atmosphere, and it is already quite noisy there. The food was delicious! Just a tip: provide a non-slip surface on the smooth stone tables. I almost had the plate hanging from my neck when I started cutting the meat.

Service, or rather, overview, could be a bit better...after having a drink we indicated that we also wanted to have lunch, the menu arrived quickly, but we had to ask for a recording within 25 minutes...people sitting next to us had been sitting next to us for a while and walked away angry after 20 minutes....nothing to complain about on the offer and the quality of the offer is good.

We had a delicious meal. And the service is excellent. Only the atmosphere is determined by the enormous noise of the coffee machine. When you sit at the front of the restaurant you can hardly hear each other when the device is in full use. And we find it very noisy because of that.

Started off with asking specialty of the house and was recommended a fish that I ordered in combination with a soup. They then had to tell me that they were out of the fish. Soup was absolutely cold when served but taste was ok. After the soup they asked us if we wanted to wait or if we would love to have the main dish right away. We opted for having it right away. Why they asked that is a miracle to me as we had to wait for over half an hour before finally served. Our beer was gone by then. Though we said we didn’t want anything to drink no more, we were asked two more times while waiting for our meal. Didn’t want another beer as there was absolutely no foam on top due to fatty glases. Duck was ok but served on the red side. If you decide to serve it that raw; please ask costumer how they like it. Wasn’t a great cut either so to cut it with a regular knife that I got was almost impossible. Obviously not what I had in mind when dining out.

Wine and appetizers consumed. Very cozy and nice service. Bitter garnish was really tasty. The Merlot is highly recommended.
