De bistro die we al jaren kennen in een nieuw jasje. Vlotte jonge bediening die het vak beheerst. Het gastheerschap van Maarschalkerweerd junior is top! En dan zijn de gerechten die worden geserveerd ook nog smaakvol en mooi gepresenteerd. Goede verhouding prijs-kwaliteit. Een verborgen pareltje in Waakwijk👌

I went there to have something tasty to eat, but it was a big disappointment. I was also quite hungry. The service was okay, but when my dish arrived I had to put on my glasses to see if there were any potatoes, indeed there were two at most two. Called the waiter and said that I wanted more potatoes, but then I had to pay extra. I will tell you that you should not eat at Hugo's if you are hungry because then you will come home from a rude awakening. I also said that clearly, but the second person who came along thought it was good and then clearly said that I disagreed. And it is also the last time I eat something at Hugo.

Het is altijd druk bij 'Hugo'. En na een avondje in deze zaak begrijp je waarom. Aardige en attente bediening, leuke wijnen, voortreffelijk eten. Een carpaccio van zeebaars om te beginnen (€16,50). Een gerecht waarbij vaak alleen de zure smaak opvalt, maar in dit geval was de limoen zuinig gedoseerd, en proefde je ook de bijbehorende wasabicrumble, de basilicum en vooral de vis. Vervolgens prima kabeljauw (€29,50) met een Aziatische draai in de vorm van Thaise curry (zo lekker dat we er graag wat meer van op ons bord hadden gehad) en paksoi. Bij de dessertronde was er lof voor de scroppino (€9,50) en voor de wentelteefjes (€10,50). Je bent hier in het beste restaurant van Waalwijk.

To start with, yes we expected more. And the food - the most important thing and what you come for - luckily it tasted pretty good. On the other hand, the portions were meager and that's a shame because that stays with you. The aquarium and the live lobsters, not our thing, but that is of course personal. We had the feeling that this bothered people. Management is businesslike. Parking is available on the square in front of the business.

We had dinner here last weekend. What was immediately noticeable was the pleasant and, above all, personal welcome. It is also a very cozy place, both inside and outside. The only thing that could be a tip is a recommendation of which wine goes well with which dish. But all in all, our evening was very successful

Wij hadden vandaag om 19:30 uur gereserveerd, het duurde een halfuur voordat er pas werd gevraagd of we wat wilde drinken. Weer na een klein halfuur hebben we zelf de ober gevraagd of we het eten konden bestellen. Na 1,5 uur wachten kregen we pas ons voorgerecht terwijl tafels die na ons binnenkwamen hun hoofdgerecht al hadden kregen. Wij hebben pas om 22:15 uur ons hoofdgerecht gekregen en gaven aan dat we hier niet meer voor willen betalen. Er was toen aangegeven dat het inderdaad besproken was. De tafel naast ons wat vrienden van ons waren kregen eerst hun hoofdgerecht en daarna pas hun voorgerecht. Het voorgerecht kregen ze van het huis vanwege de miscommunicatie wat erg werd gewaardeerd. Maar wij die nogmaals weer 1,5 uur verder zijn kregen alleen maar een drankje aangeboden. Wij zijn vaste klanten en wonen in de omgeving. Bij het afrekenen hadden we aangegeven dat we het erg op prijs zouden stellen als ze ons tegemoet zouden komen. De zoon van de eigenaar deed erg moeilijk en hebben toen besloten om alles zelf te betalen en gelijk gezegd dat dit de laatste keer was. Jammer dat het zo moest gaan. Hierdoor zullen wij niet meer bij Hugo terugkomen.

Delicious dinner with my love, birthday dinner. Opted for Chateaubriand again with a delicious bottle of red wine... Great!

Verschrikkelijke tent. Ze doen heel stoer met dure ingrediënten maar de chef is slecht en het eten is de prijs niet waard. Ik had een non alcoholische cocktail besteld omdat ik zwanger ben maar kreeg een drankje met alcohol. De serveerster wist niet zeker of er alcohol in zat maar wist wel te vertellen dat er cava in zat. Na uitleg dat ik om non-alcoholisch had gevraagd omdat ik ZWANGER ben notabene, toch een andere cocktail gekregen waar maar de helft in zat. Vervolgens beide cocktails op de rekening gekregen. Na het aangegeven te hebben is de cocktail zonder alcohol van de rekening af gehaald, die goedkoper was. Na nogmaals aan te geven dat ik een non-alcoholische cocktail besteld had en ook alleen wens daar voor te hoeven betalen kregen we de juiste rekeing. Weinig excuses gehad dat ik door hun fout alcohol heb gedronken en heel slecht opgelost. Nul initiatief vanuit het restaurant. Nul gebaren van excuses. Geen tegemoetkoming. Maar wel een rekening van 300 euro. Zonder koekje bij de koffie. Ik ga hier NOOIT meer heen!

Changed a lot over the years from a simple but good place to eat to a more fancy restaurant. But lets call it progress and happy to see they are still alive. Obviously doing a good job!

As a Waalwijker, I have of course been coming here for years. Yet Hans and his team continue to surprise you. Beautiful dishes, delicious wines, beautiful ambiance...always nice to tell guests from outside Waalwijk the history of this place and that I used to sit here at the bar with Wim and Marij!... Hugo is simply the place van Waalwijk and we should be proud of that!

Hugo Waalwijk is highly recommended! In my opinion the best / nicest restaurant in Waalwijk. Good menu, clean/friendly staff/cozy decor.

Delicious food, but on the pricey side. But it's worth it.

Last year I accidentally ended up here from the Efteling on my way home and was pleasantly surprised. Preliminary combination steak tartare/pulled beef served under a bell jar with smoke, very nice and tasty, as main cod with scallops, both with excellent cooking. The only downside was perhaps the high chairs and the high table...but because we didn't make a reservation and walked in straight away, we can't really complain. Delicious food!

Dishes were delivered twice that were unnecessary or that we did not even ask for... we pointed this out to the service... but when paying it turns out that they did nothing with it. We think €140 for 2 plaice fillets with some potatoes and a mediocre bowl of salad, a bottle of wine and two coffees with cointreau is too much..

Super location… nice staff and a delicious menu

First and last time eating there. Lots of noisy people that evening and the music turned up louder? Starter with an overture of too much cheese and garnish the main course with dry well-done tuna and a ribeye with burnt flavor. Then it was time for us to say goodbye to this restaurant forever.

A pleasant experience on a Friday evening. Catering as it should be. Service and kitchen well organized, unfortunately nowadays more of an exception than the rule. Afterwards the owner also told us this and enthusiastically showed us his daughter (Haven 12) company. Keep it up!

Wat een gezellig restaurant. Vriendelijke, attente bediening. Als voorgerecht had ik korrogrill! Heerlijk! Als hoofdgerecht een tournedos die niet zoals gevraagd medium was almaar meer naar raw ging. Dit werd keurig en professioneel opgelost. Voor mij voor herhaling vatbaar om hier te eten.

We received this together from our grandson BOB (19 years old) for our 50th wedding anniversary... born on our wedding day... everything was really delicious, including the wine... 😉. Delicious food! A piece of bread with hot prawns and a few fries with a ribeye would certainly add value. Why do we also go to paid attachments in the Netherlands? If the service had shown that they were there for us, I would have considered 5 stars. They can work on that next time.

Extraordinary service & food! Our kids where very hungry, after a long day in the Efteling Park and we asked for a speedy plate for them and a few minutes later, they got their food on the table. We waited for our delicious Rib-Eye Steaks and as we were eating this little piece of heaven, our kids got a bowl of toys to choose from, which made them very happy. This was an delightful closing of a very nice day in the Netherlands. Thank you very much HUGO, anytime again!!!

One of our favorite restaurants in our area. The kitchen brigade cooks at a high level and the inbetween menu is adjusted every few weeks and supplemented with seasonal dishes. There is also a new decoration every season. We love coming there, and thank you team Hugo. Recommended!!

Too bad that after such a bizarre match/promotion by RKC Waalwijk there were unfortunately no party or visitors at all, while it used to be a party cafe.....😭😭😭

Excellent location, pleasant atmosphere, impeccable service

Staff was friendly and the wine was tasty, but then that was about it. Ordered baguette with herb butter as an appetizer. there were three of us, do you get a bowl with 4 pieces of baguette? Then give 3 or 6 pieces!! The women had steak, but it had already cooled slightly on the inside. A friend of ours who is a chef told us that the steak comes straight from the refrigerator and that is not allowed with steak, it must first come to room temperature before you fry it. The quantity of fries was also disappointing, each had about 5 pins of fries. While eating we were also constantly asked if it tasted good, which was quite difficult when you had yet to start eating it..... Also had the feeling that you were sitting on a kicking chair.....unfortunately not a second time 👎

Nice business, nice card. Located at the Gedempte Haven, a location in Waalwijk where you 'don't just pass by', because you have to know where it is located. And we found it on a tip from a colleague. The business is divided into a terrace (and that is immediately my point for improvement, because it is located in the parking lot), a covered terrace (and therefore one star less, because this is more of a smokehouse), an entrance with a cafe on the left and a cafe on the right. restaurant. And the entrance has been converted into INBETWEEN, which the staff explains as the 'atmosphere of the cafe' with the culinary delights from the restaurant. But nice idea! As a meat lover - and it was actually about the drinks - I opted for the carpaccio (huh?!!?) and the tournedos in the restaurant. Was just okay. Carpaccio was not 'cold' and the tournedos had just run out of the requested medium (a layman would not have noticed), but that did not spoil the fun.

We ate here after our visit to the Efteling. The service was so nice and the food was excellent. A good end to a beautiful day. Worth repeating.
