Restaurant Oude Maas in Schenkel

The food is super greasy. The sushi is small. The sashimi is super thick. Really not a nice place.

It was decent, the quality was adequate. Nothing special, a run-of-the-mill restaurant.

My partner and I go here often. The food and drinks are really tasty, provided you go early. I find the Ebi tastier compared to others here. The all-inclusive drinks are also great if you want that. The atmosphere is good because you can enjoy staring out the window at boats or the annoying bridge opening (Spijkenisse Bridge). I do notice that if you go later, everything takes a bit longer because it is busier, but that is understandable because there are sometimes mistakes, or you get one dish quickly and the rest either doesn't come at all or arrives slowly.

We had a delicious meal. However, I find it a shame that it works with a QR code; as a result, you have much less contact with the staff. Also, that you are not allowed to order drinks freely (if you book including drinks), one drink at a time, and it counts towards the round you order.

Haven't been in a year and the quality seems to have deteriorated. In general still tasty, but received cold meat several times, orders that only came an hour later, never arrived at all or were intended for another table. I've had better experiences here in the past, so it could be a coincidence...

The food is bad; the meat is salty and overcooked, and the roasted bacon is just a slice of bacon. The entrance is still dirty, especially the windows. This was the last time for us.

I have been here regularly in the past and have always had pleasant experiences, which is precisely why I find it a shame to have to write this review. During my last visit, the quality was unfortunately disappointing. The preparation of the meat was very inconsistent: some dishes were very well-done, while others were served raw or lukewarm. The beef tataki, in particular, was not as it should be — it is supposed to be briefly seared and fresh, but it was served lukewarm and unpleasant. Unfortunately, I also contracted food poisoning after this visit, which made the experience even more unpleasant in hindsight. Additionally, the service came across as less attentive than I was used to from previous visits. At the end, I was asked if everything was to my liking; normally, I always leave a tip when I am satisfied, but this time I consciously refrained from doing so. I sincerely hope that this was an isolated incident and that the quality returns to how it used to be, because it used to be a place I enjoyed visiting.

We went on Saturday, maybe it was too busy, but it took a very long time before we received our order. Snacks from the third round and then cold fries from round 2 in between, and that happened regularly.

The food is great!! The atmosphere could be better... it's very outdated.

Unfortunately, it used to be much better. The bacon was just plain bacon, the spare ribs were completely crispy due to dryness, the cooked meat was almost black on one side and pale on the other. My table companion's duck was quite dry, and it took a long time for the dishes to arrive, and some of what was ordered in the first round didn't arrive until the fourth round. The service did its best. I'd rather drive a bit further for quality.

We had a good and pleasant meal, but be careful when ordering, as it can be quite crowded. The entrance and building are quite dated. There was no view where we were (unfortunately), but other spots on the waterfront are beautiful.

Fantastic dishes and fast and friendly service

I’m Korean living in Netherlands and sometimes I have to get my sushi fix. Restaurant Oude Maas has always had a special place in my heart. I had my wedding reception there, brought my best friends here when they visited with their kids and we have been back for many happy occasions. The food is always excellent and the service is outstanding. My son and I visited again today for my birthday dinner and I had an amazing experience. Thank you so much for taking such good care of us!

A great sushi restaurant in the region. The menu is fun and diverse with a number of dishes that you don't often find in other restaurants, such as the steamed bao buns. The sushi is of excellent quality and I really liked most of the meat dishes. Unfortunately, I found some pieces just a bit too tough. The view over the Maas, especially when the weather is nice, doesn't get boring quickly.

The entrance is very sad, not accessible for disabled people. The food tastes mediocre sometimes like rubber. Cleaning the table when a waiter knocks something over is solved by wiping it with a napkin. The toilet area is almost falling apart, the door handle is loose and the urinals almost fall off the wall. Finally, you have to pay a lot extra for the desserts if you want to eat something. Mediocre experience but cash in big!

Good food, not everything is to my taste. When it's busy, the food is lukewarm. But some recipes are delicious.

You can eat delicious sushi and drinks here all in. That is nice so that you know what the costs will be.

Delicious food, nice and fast service. There is a lot on the menu such as sushi, meat, fish, but also vegetables and salads. (The chicken salad is delicious!) Restaurant could use an upgrade in terms of floors and paint.

I have never eaten anywhere as gross as here! The place has no atmosphere and the service is young and unprofessional. The food with little good marinade and sauces and the meat is dry and cut too thickly. The desserts are also laughably small and all cheap crap. We just had a laugh about it😭🙈🤣

It's good food, nice people and a very good atmosphere

Celebrated my birthday in the company of 13 adults and 2 children. We had the “All inclusive” package, which includes drinks. It was very busy. Made a reservation at 6:30 PM but the electronic system for ordering with a QR code did not work. No one came to explain either. Finally I asked at reception and it turned out that the system had not yet been activated. From the moment it finally worked until the end, maxm. 2 ½ hours, we experienced a chaotic, poorly running and very careless whole. Dishes were constantly placed on the wrong tables, meaning everyone had to figure out who ordered what because it was on the wrong table. Dishes that never arrived at all, or only arrived after a very long time. Drinks that you had to wait a very long time for, etc. The service, very young, was far too inexperienced and not the friendliest. Suddenly ordering was no longer possible because time was up. Turning off the system in time was possible quickly, but turning the system on in time was not. We then indicated that the time that we could not order because the system had not yet been activated that that time had to be adjusted. We were then given 20 minutes of extra time, which we were of course entitled to. All in all a disappointing experience without any compensation!

24-08-2024 Unfortunately a disappointment, first order came after 25 minutes. Some dishes were burnt, some were very salty, some dishes were not delivered or only served after an hour. Clearing was also a problem, it piled up well. A real disappointment from both the kitchen and the service. Wasn't worth the money 228 euros (5 adults + child)

The entrance is to be regretted. Actually bad. Weeds everywhere from the tiles, no clean windows, poor maintenance of the building. Too bad because this is not necessary. The entrance should be a nice start. So do something about this. Anyway... The atmosphere is mediocre but the service is okay. A new way of ordering with your mobile. This was hilarious for a moment, but ultimately succeeded with the friendly help of the employee. The food was okay and at the right temperature. We sat on the window side, which is tactical because this way people walking outside can see that it is (well) occupied... 👀 Nice view.

Food is definitely good, ive had it a bit better at other restaurants but overall it was very delicious. The people who worked here were very monotone and not really like u'd expect and want. The atmosphere also became a bit ruined due to these monotone waiters, we had wooden sticks to eat with instead of plastic or a better material that were splintering apart in my food. We had a very loyal fly trying to land on us and multiple flies on the dirty glass we were sitting next to. Food is good, waiters need to work on their expressions and the atmosphere definitely needs work

Nice menu with delicious sushi and other dishes. Smooth operation and great concept. The decor is a bit dated, but that is completely made up for by the tasty dishes and that is what matters to us.

The location is very nice and the staff was very friendly but the food was not so. When you take surimi nigiri you see and taste that this is the surimi that you can simply get at Albert Heijn. Furthermore, the sushi tasted like it had already been made and taken out of the refrigerator

Reataurant old Maas overlooking the Maas, so watch boats while you eat. Extensive menu with various cold and warm snacks. Excellent sushi and excellent meat dishes. Meat is buttery soft and delicious. For sushi we use the wasabi for a little spice. Also tasty slip sole, appropriate size and meat straight from the bone. Delicious desserts, sorbet available at an additional cost. Smooth operation. Order via QR code and app, so bring your phone (but no one can do without it anymore). Final coffee nice and strong.

This is really my favorite Sushi restaurant. The employees are lovely and the service is always fast. The restaurant is spacious, so you don't sit too close to other people. In short, a perfect dining experience. If you are lucky you will have a view of the Spijkenisser bridge and the Oude Maas. Beautiful! I like coming here because they have unlimited “Sashimi Sake”. This is my favorite Sushi. But of course I can't get enough of all the other delicacies either. This restaurant is qualitatively far above all other restaurants I have visited. Until next time

What happened here? We have been coming here intermittently for years. For the first time, someone is complaining at the table about the maximum time, the food ordered does not arrive in full and the service is no longer what it used to be. Shame...

The atmosphere was good because of the company I had. Service (especially afterwards) was not good. (K)old sushi, slow service. Was certainly not the first, but certainly the last time I have been.

Eaten here so often, always very satisfied! This time it was really bad, cold hard sushi, bad service and afterwards I also received a no show in the mail🙄. I first contacted them by telephone but there was no interest at all on their part.

I read a lot of negative comments here. We absolutely disagree with that. Such a shame that people are not easily satisfied anymore. Be happy when you can eat out and enjoy it. We always think it's great here! Went last week. The food was very tasty and hot. Good and fast service! We will of course be back 😁

Sushi is always okay, but a bit sloppily rolled here. Lots of choice from the menu and tasty side dishes too, but an annoying sewage smell.

This has been our favorite sushi restaurant for years. We have no idea what happened and changed, but it was dramatically bad tonight. The hot dishes were lukewarm and chewy and seemed reheated. The sushi was tasteless and cold. Drinks took a long time to be served even though the restaurant was only a quarter full. That was also surprising to us when we walked in, because previously it was packed. Unfortunately we won't be going back here again. It really is the worst sushi in the area, just as bad as the sticky sushi from the supermarket.... Also a bad use of your money. This is very unfortunate.

Great service, great dishes. 1st time here, but will definitely come again. Due to our catering company, we are only free on Mondays and this business is open on Mondays. So a nice outcome.

Not much of a restaurant. Food was reasonable, it's a pity that when we were still there with our group, half of the lighting had already gone out, including the toilet lighting. At the end the staff looked at us quite annoyingly and went into the business themselves. Not recommended to be honest.

First time in this restaurant, relaxed atmosphere, beautiful view of the water. Had a drinks package included. The staff was friendly and ensured that empty plates and glasses were collected on time. They also came regularly to check whether everything was still as desired. The QR system worked very well because everyone at the table can order immediately. I can understand that this may be a bit more difficult for digital people. The sushi was good and the dim sum on the menu was also a new experience for me in an all you can eat concept. Overall we had a nice evening and a delicious meal.

Chaotic service, very noisy and no music in the background that could enhance the atmosphere. But what you come for, the food is more than excellent and there is a wide choice. Unfortunately, the QR code ordering has recently also started to apply here, which ruins a pleasant evening without a mobile phone.

This place is really bad as hell... You'd better starve yourself if you eat this bah bah. Meat was raw and rice was like a bouncy ball. For the price you pay this is really impossible and antisocial!! The service is also as antisocial as anything and they don't understand what they are doing. "It seems like it's the first day of everything" and the food arrives super slowly so you can barely eat anything. I give it a 0!

They recently started using ordering via mobile phone, which makes it even easier and you no longer have a maximum of 5 rounds to order. Totally awesome.

Well, for us it's not exactly... a bit of a McDonald's feeling; You have eaten, but to say that you had a pleasant/relaxed meal... well, no. Working with a QR code and searching for food on your smartphone must be your thing. Be careful that several people do not want to place something in the shopping cart at the same time, because only 1 will be added. You are therefore constantly checking with your group whether it is correct. And if something comes up, you have to check it again. You regularly receive items that you did not order. So not really relaxing. We had a birthday boy in our midst and that is positive: he eats for free (under certain conditions), but congratulations are in order. Food is also fine. I suspect they also use Ve-tsin in the kitchen; I would also have liked to have known in advance; then my evening would have been a bit quieter.

Please note: this is a purely personal experience! I'm not a sushi fan, but the family wanted it and there is plenty of choice except sushi. First impression: friendly but very young service, serving was a bit of a challenge. First round: I really like tuna, so I tried some sushi. Fresh products, fish very tasty, but: sushi just not my thing, so I left this out of my review. Second round: chicken, mini spring rolls, skewers: bland and not very tasty. Well prepared, tender, but the flavor had to come from the fried onions. Shame. Third round: mud sole, and Cantonese cuisine. Slip sole was a bit tasteless again, but the Cantonese dishes and especially the grilled duck were delicious. Fourth round: dessert. Banana and strawberry ice cream very chemical. Other desserts reasonable but not really special. We had a great time and I don't regret it. Considering the range, I may have chosen exactly the wrong thing. I'll just go again and maybe adjust my score. For now I just don't get four stars. Edit: two years later and back again. Dishes were significantly better... now with more mature staff and then I dare to think of 5 stars!

Update: 05-10-2022 Bad service, had to wait a long time for our drinks. Ordering via the QR code is not very practical. The menu does not correspond well with the login of the QR code you have to order using. The staff is not very friendly.

Half of the food was cold, the fish was like a sponge and the place itself was dirty even though we got there on a Sunday evening around 4pm when they opened so everything should be clean. The glasses smelled like wet dog and you could barely see through the windows. They were also not asked whether they had enjoyed it, so that a solution could perhaps be offered... so this was not done because I am not going to ask for that. In short, very bad!

Went for dinner with 4 adults and 3 children. Service very poor, 2 boys walking around really did their best, but the 3 girls were seriously below standard!!! Also indicated several times whether she could collect the empty plates and whether we would still receive drinks. We also didn't like the food, a few times raw chicken on the yakitori skewers and a piece of tuna that was no longer good (father-in-law almost threw up). Indicated at checkout but little response was given. Unfortunately, we will never come here again.

I think Oude Maas is a good restaurant, but often something that you have ordered is brought to you, this has happened more often and if you order drinks you have to ask 4 or 5 times before you get a drink, which is disappointing, I am not used to it because we have to pay a lot for it.
