Restaurant Rotonde in Rotterdam Centrum

I went here for dinner for a special occasion. We were really looking forward to it! The welcome was fantastic, and we were given a nice spot. It might just be that I'm not the target audience—I eat meat/fish, but I'm also open to alternatives—but I still found the flavors unexciting. The wine wasn't to my taste either. Virtually every dish was disappointing, and we really wondered why everyone was so enthusiastic. It was also incredibly expensive.

What a lovely experience! My mom and I celebrated our last evening of her visit in Rotterdam at Rotonde and thoroughly enjoyed it. We went for the 5 course menu and were not disappointed. The food was delicious and unique, and the wine pairings were on point. The staff was friendly and attentive from beginning to end. I would say that Rotonde is a culinary adventure. Expect to be surprised and be open to new combinations. If you can do so, it will definitely be worth it!

Rotonde is absolutely different from your average trattoria. You immediately notice the team's passion: the service is top-notch – before you even have to look for someone, there's already someone at your side with answers or advice. The cuisine revolves entirely around seasonal vegetables and unexpected flavor combinations. Everything is incredibly fresh and creatively presented, but don't expect classic "foodies": some flavors are new, layered, and take a little searching. In short: a relaxing evening full of surprises. Go here if you're open to adventurous vegetable dishes and top-notch service; if you're looking for familiar flavors, you'll be better off elsewhere. For us, it was above all a captivating experience.

The food was delicious! We chose a surprise menu with matching wines, and everything was delicious. Unique dishes and some unusual wines. Friendly staff who took the time to explain the dishes and wines. If you book a bar table, you can watch the kitchen. Highly recommended!

We ate at Rotonde yesterday and were thrilled with the atmosphere, the concept, and the food. The restaurant has a cozy and sociable atmosphere. The team is incredibly open and welcoming. You immediately feel at home. We had a bar seat, which we highly recommend. The food is prepared right behind the counter, and you can see the large oven where it's cooking. It's truly an experience to practically be sitting in the kitchen. The food didn't disappoint either: The two of us simply chose all eight main courses plus two desserts and shared them, which is highly recommended because you get to try almost everything. The food is vegetarian, some of it probably vegan, yet down-to-earth and creative at the same time. A really likeable, cool concept with great food!

Delicious food and wines, top service, and they play records!

They promised vegetables — and they delivered. Just not much else. The concept is cool, the branding well done, the place fully booked. Expectations were high. But after 2.5 hrs, five courses, and a forgettable wine pairing, we were still waiting for the food/wine to get interesting. Dishes lacked depth and surprise. Service was kind but slow. The final twist? A €250+ bill for three. The most complex part of the evening was the check. Great marketing, no doubt. I won’t be back… but there’s always room for another optimist at the table.

Had a really pleasant dining experience last evening with a friend, didn’t have a reservation but stuff was super friendly and welcoming, had a nice table outdoors. If you’re in doubt what to order, just like we were, highly recommend 4-5 or 6 course menu, we chose 4-course menu, didn’t regret our decision and got to try dishes we wouldn’t choose on our own. Perfect spot for a date or dinner with friends. Super friendly stuff, nice serving, delicious dishes. Will definitely visit again

Na een half jaar hier terug dus tijd voor een evaluatie. Waren we toen razend enthousiast, nu moesten we consateren dat in de betere horeca een hoog niveau bestendigen geen sinecure is en bij succes nonchalance en gemakzucht op de loer liggen genadeloos toe te slaan. Het zesgangen menu bood weinig verrassingen qua zowel smaak als presentatie. Elk gerecht moest het zelfde bestek gegeten worden, tussen de gerechten liggen vork en mes dan op de houten tafel, geen aantrekkelijk gezicht noch hygiënisch. Besparen op afwas is duurzaam maar dat doe je dan maar thuis. We moesten drie kwartier wachten op de fles witte wijn die moest worden ‘teruggekoeld’. De muziekkeus (erg luid van een platenspeler met stof aan de naald) zal niet iedereen waarderen dus daar hebben we niet over. All in all verlieten we Rotonde aanzienlijk minder opgetogen dan een jaar geleden, helaas meer in de zelfde stemming als we het doorsnee restaurant mee verlaten, of wel niets bijzonders.

Had a fantastic meal at restaurant Rotonde last night. The dishes were all surprising and full of flavour – a feast to discover. What made the evening extra special was the sommelier. She explained the wines with so much passion and knowledge, and the combinations with the dishes were perfectly chosen. It is clear that they work here with a lot of attention and love for the profession. A unique experience and definitely recommended!

Spectacular good food, really friendly and competent staff, cool atmosphere. We really enjoyed our dinner and we're blown away by the vast range of tastes that we were presented.

We hadden echt uitgekeken naar deze avond. We kozen een menu met bijpassende wijn. Het eerste gerecht betrof echter een paar kleine tomaatjes uit de oven met wat kruiden en een sausje, best lekker, maar niet heel bijzonder. En ook niet erg voedzaam, terwijl dat het enige was (naast brood) wat er in een uur en twintig minuten te eten kregen. Toen volgde een gerecht met asperges. De garnering en de saus waren niet alleen dermate pittig dat de asperges niet meer konden worden geproefd, maar de smaak was ook nog ronduit vreselijk. Daar kwam bij dat we inmiddels na lekkere champagne ook nog twee glazen wijn hadden gedronken, dus veel alcohol en weinig te eten. We hadden natuurlijk steeds brood kunnen blijven eten, maar ja, daar kom je natuurlijk niet alleen voor. De wijn bij de asperges was trouwens behoorlijk stevig en wat metalig van smaak, dus erg overheersend, net als de asperges zelf. Geen idee welke gedachte daar achter zat, maar de asperges werden er in combinatie met de wijn niet beter op. Na het aspergegerecht, dat echt niet te eten was, besloten we om te vertrekken. Geen enkel vertrouwen meer op de goede afloop. De sfeer was ook niet beter omdat we achter in de zaak werden geplaatst, waar het veel minder gezellig zit dan voorin. Maar als het eten nu nog heel lekker en voldoende voedzaam was geweest, dan was dat ons natuurlijk nauwelijks opgevallen. Het personeel deed zijn best, was vriendelijk, en gaf bij iedere gang en iedere wijn een uitleg, net als in een goed restaurant, maar dit kwam wat vreemd over gezien de kwaliteit van wat ons voorgeschoteld werd. We vonden het bijzonder vreemd dat er op het internet zulke goede recensies zijn. Is dit een geval van de nieuwe kleren van de keizer? We zagen dat mensen naast ons ook superlang moesten wachten op een beetje eten. Of is er een andere kok? Geen idee. Wij zijn in de buurt bij Brasserie Pierre de schade gaan inhalen, heerlijk gegeten, verschillende vegetarische mogelijkheden, snel alles op tafel. Maar toch jammer van onze avond dat het niet in één keer fijn was. Ik ben normaal niet echt kritisch en al snel tevreden als ik zie dat mensen hun best doen. Maar dit ging te ver voor mij, daarom dus deze recensie.

I would say food was decent but the portions were very less for the price. Even after a 5 course our tummy was not completely full. Although wine selections they had were quite good. Sit at the bar only if you are interested in seeing how the food is prepared, if you want to converse with each other choose the other tables. A successful evening! We ordered all eight savory courses and the cheese variation. There was also bread with onion oil. Every course was a pleasure, even if the breaks between courses could have been shorter. Extensive and very good wine list.

Very nice atmosphere with a hip and neat decoration. The chairs could have been a bit more comfortable, a cushion would not be an unnecessary luxury. The food was served at a pleasant pace and was well prepared. Although the flavors did not completely blow me away, I did find the dishes original and innovative. Perhaps a bit on the pricey side in relation to what is served, but all in all a nice experience.

Delicious food, it is advisable to start with the 4 courses, otherwise you will not be full. Very friendly staff and good knowledge of what is served.

Came here for my birthday , together with my partner. We had let the kitchen decide what to serve us , so we'd be surprised. Every dish was a true work of art. Ingredients I've never thought to put together formed a delightful taste. The service was great, the staff was super friendly and the food was amazing. 10/10 experience! I'm eager to return 😀

What a wonderful restaurant. We were able to enjoy an evening of all the beautiful things that are served here. The wines from the wine arrangement fit perfectly with the dishes and the personal attention with each dish makes it a party. What makes it complete is the relaxed atmosphere. We sat at the bar (highly recommended) and then you are taken along in the friendly atmosphere of the kitchen. People come here to enjoy and at the Rotonde this is put into practice.

I had a 4-course meal here, where the kitchen chooses. I like that. All dishes are built around vegetables and grains. It is a condition that you like wood-smoked and roasted vegetables. This method of preparation does result in the dishes starting to resemble each other, which is strange because the ingredients are so different. The taste of my salsify was dominated too much by the black roasted edges. When I said something about that, after the obligatory question, "did it taste good?" the staff could only look very disappointed and then walk away without a word. In addition, the ventilation makes a lot of noise that they try to drown out with loud music. That makes the experience a bit less than it could be.

One of the best dining experiences in the city, much better atmosphere than most michelin places in town, sustainable af, wood+charcoal cooked dinner, great menu tat works for any level of appetite, incredible service, love the vinyl idea, great wines,insanely good bread with a burnt onion sauce/oil. Worthy of all their accolades, have come here alone, on a date, in a group, always works!

Friendly service, top welcome. The food was delicious! Received a lot of explanation. We had 4 courses and certainly enough. Water was always refilled, atmosphere and workers were very good. They are really attuned to each other. You experienced no stress (we sat at the bar). I will definitely come back!

This restaurant is a very nice concept where vegetarian dishes are prepared on an open wood fire in the kitchen (BBQ). Vegetarian BBQ is a challenge and the chefs deserve a big compliment for that! Still, the food was a bit disappointing for us. Tops: - cozy place, relaxed atmosphere - you can sit at the bar and see how everything is prepared - tasty non-alcoholic juices - the pita bread prepared on the fire was very tasty Tips: - the portions were a bit small - the first course and dessert of the menu were disappointing. The dessert was a kind of 'creme brulee ice cream' with miso and buckwheat. A bit too experimental for our taste. Finally, very nice and professional team! Definitely try it out.

Beautiful dishes with special combinations, where you won't miss meat or fish at all. Actually everything was tasty. Furthermore, very nice service and a relaxed, cozy atmosphere. Delicious food, with surprising dishes and delicious wine. It would be nice to also include a vegan cheese in the cheese board, for example from Rechtstreex and I can also highly recommend a local cider from Elegast, more layered and exciting taste.

Quirky, tasty, beautiful plant-based dishes and hospitable. Very tasty onion oil dip with bread. And be sure to try their own (alcohol-free) juices!

From the first greeting to the last, there is a welcoming atmosphere and very good vibes among all the workers. Very good light and acoustics. And without a doubt if you are vegetarian, it is your place. You can choose between several dishes but you also have the option of having them give you their recommendations without having to think, which is appreciated, and always accompanying it with good wine for each specific dish. If you like cheese, without a doubt the tasting of National Cheeses (Dutch) as a dessert is incredible.

What a wonderful experience! Vegetarian food can be surprisingly tasty, and the combinations were special and creative. Never thought meat could be missed so easily. The mocktails were delicious and the service was fantastic. The only downside I found was the strong smoky smell inside due to the wood-burning oven. The bread and cookies also had a slightly too intense smoky flavor. But luckily that didn't detract from the overall experience!

Our second visit to Rotonde also turned out to be fantastic. This time we enjoyed the 5-course dinner with friends. Delicious dishes, super relaxed and warm atmosphere. Extremely friendly service (even after minimal feedback). Normally we do not enjoy dining outdoors so easily, but Rotonde is number 1 for us in our own Rdam. My partner and I had an incredible experience at Rotonde tonight. The staff was attentive and knowledgeable; the food was perfectly cooked and plated beautifully. I highly recommend sitting at the bar so you can see the kitchen.

After seeing all the rave reviews I have to say I was underwhelmed. It was good but for 70 euros pp (no alchohol) the price/quality did not match expectations. We had the surprise menu which was good but portions were small given the price. Taste varied between dishes but there was not a dish that really stood out. We were just finishing up at 9:15 pm after paying our bill and then we're asked to leave as the table was resevered for another group. It ended the evening on a indifferent note. It was not bad but it did not stand out as exceptional.

Restaurant Rotonde is my favorite restaurant in the slightly higher price segment. I love the informal and cozy setting they have created and of course the delicious, plant-based dishes and surprising (including non-alcoholic) drinks. The often unknown vegetables are prepared in different ways (often on a wood fire, but also through fermentation) and combined with amazing other flavors in the form of sauces, toppings and other structures. They cook with as many local and seasonal products as possible, so it is always a pleasure to see what is on the menu. The service is friendly, not overly present and super attentive. I keep coming back.

Went there last Christmas period (2023) with their special 7 course menu. Didn't take the wine pairing as it would have been too much wine but had a few glasses. Really good, innovative food creations with vegetables! Impressed & also very relaxed atmosphere. After 7 courses + a drink, we were satisfied.

We chose the six-course menu and each dish was unique. Very happy with this choice of number of courses, especially in terms of price/quality. Although everything tasted very good, the extreme highlights were in the head and tail. The bread in advance, darn delicious wood-baked bread with an extremely delicious dip. And the dessert... who would have ever thought that miso would be the surprise element in a dessert (creme brulee)!? My goodness, that was mighty delicious! Despite the crowds, we had a nice and quiet seat and received excellent service. Our alcohol-free evening also turned out surprisingly well with an exciting choice of home-made drinks. The kombucha (apple and sezchuan) and pear/sea fennel were delicious.

Wat een feest! Bediening super aardig en heel deskundig. Herkomst van al het eten dus ook kruiden regionaal. Alles vega. Alles verrassend vanaf de heerlijke olie bij het brood. Menu nearly entirely vegan in any case. We did fully vegan. Not expensive at all also, less than €100 for five courses + wine pairing.

It's been a long time since I've been to a vegetarian restaurant, so it was time to be surprised again. The choice ultimately fell on Rotonde. We received a friendly welcome and were well looked after by the staff throughout the evening. Nothing was too much trouble. The food varied. We opted for the surprise menu. The food was fine, but some dishes were just OK and not particularly surprising or stimulating. I personally expected more from this. The same applied to the wines. I like to be surprised, and there were certainly surprises, but my table companion was less amused. An open-minded attitude is necessary. It's a tent for young people anyway. Together, I think we have doubled the average age! :D The acoustics of the room did not appeal to us, but this must be due to the age and the place where our table was located. In summary, a nice meal but below expectations.

The atmosphere and service here are great, but the food did not meet our expectations. We took the surprise 5 course menu (made vegan). Some of the dishes were fine (but far from wow), and some were just not good (they had too much of a single flavor (spicy, salty or smoky)), and none had that higher dimension of flavor combinations that I would expect from a Michelin restaurant. I have had vegetables at other restaurants that taste amazing so I don't think it has to do with the restaurant specializing on veggie dishes. Overall, I would not recommend if you want fine dining, and I would not go back.

A great concept, every course lovingly prepared and served. From the counter you can watch the creators working quietly but like clockwork. It was soooo delicious!

Sucedí en Rotonde bastante accidentalmente y estaba increíblemente impresionado. Ofrecen un menú “sorpresa” de cuatro platos y los platos son extraordinarios y eso es una eufemismo. He comido en todas partes en algunos de los mejores restaurantes. Cada plato es una experiencia única de ingredientes mezclados y especias. Este es un lugar donde vienes a saborear los platos lentamente. El personal es maravilloso , explicando cada plato en detalle como lo traen. Simplemente excepcional.

Where to start. We were blown away by Rotonde. We opted for a 6 course tasting menu and on staff recommendations ordered all 12 dishes to share each course. What ensued was an exquisite culinary journey. The food was thoughtfully curated, beautifully presented and had a deliciously smokey depth. Each dish brought fresh surprises with innovative ideas and flavours - onion oil, a buckwheat soup, a mushroom kebab brimming with umami. There's something for everyone at Rotonde with 3, 4 and 6 course options. The service was effortlessly smooth, the wine delicious and whole experience was exceptional. We would recommend Rotonde to anyone and everyone visiting Rotterdam. 10/10 would go again.

We had a great evening at Restaurant Rotonde where their focus on sustainable vegetarian dishes really stood out. Highlight of the night was the grilled mushrooms on skewers—absolutely delicious. I also discovered some beautiful organic wines on their list, which paired perfectly with the meal. It’s a place I’d definitely recommend for anyone looking for thoughtful, plant-based cuisine.

Wer sich die Website der Rotonde ansieht, erkennt schnell, dass man dort gern erklärt. Sehr gern. Aber das Essen soll gut sein, sagen Gäste auf Google. Also gehe ich einfach mal vorbei. Das Lokal ist auch am Donnerstagabend gut besucht. Die Einrichtung um die offene Küche verbreitet das lebhafte Ambiente einer Wohngemeinschaft der 90er. Wer reserviert (es gibt mindestens 4 Varianten mit unterschiedlichen Zeit- und Zahlungsmodalitäten, die gesondert erklärt werden müssen), zahlt eine Kaution von 25 €, die bei Erscheinen mit dem Verzehr verrechnet wird. Es scheint fast so, als habe das Team der Rotonde wenig Vertrauen in die Zugkraft und Attraktivität des eigenen Gastronomiekonzepts, geschweige denn der eigenen Küche. Ich erscheine ohne Reservierung, aber der professionell freundliche Service findet noch einen Tisch für 45 Minuten für mich. Da mein Hunger an diesem Abend eher klein ist, lasse ich mich darauf ein. Die Tischoberfläche ist klebrig. "Das ist die Beschichtung" erklärt die Servicemitarbeiterin begeistert, "die tauschen wir gerade aus." Die Karte bietet ausschließlich vegetarische Gerichte aus regionalem Anbau, Preise liegen zwischen 13 und 15 Euro. Ein Begleittext erklärt, dass für Erwachsene 4 bis 6 Gerichte pro Person empfohlen werden, inklusive Dessert. Die Beschreibung ist minimalistisch gehalten, aber der Service nimmt sich sehr viel Zeit, die Zubereitung zu erklären. Ich entscheide mich für "LAUCH (XO Sauce, Paprika)" und "KOHLRABI (Walnuss, Holunderblüte, Lauch)", dazu ein Glas Weißwein. Besonders das Walnusspesto begeistert mich, obwohl mich ein großes Stück Walnussschale beim essen fast einen Zahn kostet. In einem mehr am Wohlergehen des Gasts orientierten Haus hätte der Service zumindest sein Bedauern darüber zum Ausdruck gebracht. Im Restaurant Rotonde wird mir lediglich bestätigt, dass es sich dabei um Walnussschale handelt. Mit der gleichen Begeisterung, mit der zuvor die Zubereitung der Gerichte erklärt wurde. Ich finde das Essen sehr lecker, gemessen am Wareneinsatz ist es jedoch überteuert. Die vielen Regeln und Erklärungen schaffen auch im Lokal eine Atmosphäre, die in meiner Wahrnehmung ständig zwischen Transparenz, Gängelung und Belehrung mäandert. Ich möchte mich beim Essen entspannen und genießen. Das gelingt mir an diesem Abend in der Rotonde nicht. The restaurant is also busy on Thursday evenings. The furnishings around the open kitchen give off the lively ambience of a 90s shared apartment. Anyone who makes a reservation (there are at least 4 variants with different time and payment modalities, which must be explained separately) pays a deposit of €25, which will be offset against the consumption when they show up. It almost seems as if the Rotonde team has little confidence in the traction and attractiveness of their own catering concept, let alone their own cuisine. I show up without a reservation, but the professional, friendly service finds me a table for 45 minutes. Since I'm not hungry that evening, I'll go along with it. The table surface is sticky. "That's the coating," the service employee explains enthusiastically, "we're currently replacing it." The menu only offers vegetarian dishes from regional sources, prices are between 13 and 15 euros. An accompanying text explains that for adults, 4 to 6 dishes per person are recommended, including dessert. The description is minimalistic, but the service takes a lot of time to explain the preparation. I choose "LEEK (XO sauce, peppers)" and "KOHLRABI (walnut, elderflower, leek)", with a glass of white wine. I particularly love the walnut pesto, even though a large piece of walnut shell almost costs me a tooth to eat. In a hotel that was more focused on the guest's well-being, the service would at least have expressed regret. In the Rotonde restaurant they only confirmed to me that it was walnut shell. With the same enthusiasm with which the preparation of the dishes was previously explained. I think the food is very tasty, but considering the cost of goods it is overpriced. The many rules and explanations also create an atmosphere in the restaurant that, in my perception, constantly meanders between transparency, control and instruction. I want to relax and enjoy eating. I can't do that this evening in the Rotonde. Conclusion: Too much explanation, too little relaxation. Took my parents out for dinner and I was so happy I did it here! Delicious special dishes where everything feels in balance, and everything has been carefully considered (including local ingredients); service is friendly and responds well to everything/sees everything; very nice atmosphere inside and nice interior and details (a record player in the background). It all adds up! Definitely recommended!

We had a 4 course dinner and although the food is quite tasty, at the same time felt kind of repetitive and not so special. A bit over priced for what it is. Very friendly staff.

Cozy, fantastic and surprising vegetarian/vegan cuisine (I still dream about the sweet potato ice cream with miso caramel), beautiful natural wines, authentic, very friendly and knowledgeable staff, which is truly unique these days. If I could, I would give the service 6 stars! Absolutely recommended, we will definitely come back.

This was one of the best meals I’ve ever had. Inventive, surprising, delicious food and not stuffy at all—our server was knowledgeable and warm and made great recommendations. A very special place. Would be my first go-to on any trip back to Rotterdam.

We made reservations for King's Day evening. While most people in the train go home, we go to restaurant Rotonde. Not knowing what to expect I open the door. The place is more than half full and we can pick a spot. Next thing we hear is that all the normal staff got a day off and that they are running the service with 3 people tonight... okay?! Once seated, we get the menu very quickly and I ask for a 5 coarse diner and wine to go with that. And yes, of course we'll share food. This way we get to taste 10 different dishes and we discuss which we like most. I really like the idea of using local food, because these ingredients didn't fly half the planet to make it to our plates. All dishes we eat are well prepared, extremely tasteful (I fully disagree with reviews stating otherwise) and nicely presented. It's great fun to see the staffs knowledge on what they serve and the enthusiasm they serve it with. Having a great evening comes from small details like wonderful company, excellent food or staff that even though it's busy, plays the music from lp. Yes, we will definitely come again. Thanks for a delightful evening and superb food!

Ate here for the first time yesterday, it was very special what they can make with vegetarian/vegan ingredients. The 5 course surprise menu was very nice and you can also share all 10 dishes, super fun. Delicious food, nice terrace, nice staff! Highly recommended

I hereby share my experience at Rotonde. I wanted to surprise my girlfriend, who is a vegetarian, with a nice dinner and happened to come across this restaurant because I had walked past it. My attention was drawn by the green Michelin star. I don't actually have much experience with vegetarian dishes, so I didn't really know what to expect. However, I have been positively surprised by the different flavors and textures I have tasted. We had a four-course menu and the dishes and flavors varied enormously. Really delicious! The restaurant has a warm atmosphere and gives a kind of living room feeling. On the website you can find pieces about the hosts and hostesses, which is fun to read. All the staff who helped us were very friendly and had a good idea of ​​what they were bringing to the table. You are specifically asked about your allergies or things you really don't like. I honestly have no complaints about the way we have been helped here. I am super surprised and extremely satisfied with my visit to Rotonde.

Wow! The first vegan bite sent me into a food high. If you enjoy smoky flavors, the spinach dish will have you soaring. This was undoubtedly my best experience in the Netherlands. I’d love to visit Rotterdam again just to dine at this restaurant. Fine dining, great atmosphere, and plenty of dedicated staff. What an exceptional experience.

Our experience at your restaurant gets a 10 out of 10! We were surprised with a 5-course menu + 2 desserts with detailed explanations for each dish. Very customer friendly, completely according to our wishes, top quality food. Authentic recipes and combinations of ingredients. We live in Amsterdam but we come back to Rotonde any day of the year! Very grateful for the staff and high quality food. It was a beautiful experience! 😋 I recommend it to everyone.

I recently visited Restaurant Rotonde and was thoroughly impressed. The creative dishes featured many unexpected but surprisingly good combinations of ingredients and flavors. The vibe inside is fantastic—homey yet industrial and artsy. The nice art on the walls, available for sale, added to the atmosphere. The employees were all very sweet and personal, and their warm welcome with complimentary water and bread set the tone for a wonderful meal. Highly recommend!
