We were there in July 2025 and in May 2026 (yesterday, July 29). According to Google, it is open from 10 am to 6 pm. But we stood in front of a closed door three!!! times. So we won't be going there anymore.

I can't understand the other guests' enthusiasm. The staff served alcoholic drinks even though non-alcoholic drinks were ordered. The staff reacted with incomprehension. The location is really nice. When the weather is good, you can sit on the terrace. Recommended with reservations.

Waiting 45 minutes for a ham and cheese toastie? That's simply unacceptable. If a dish is that simple, it should be on the table in no time – not after what feels like forever. The bread platter was disappointingly small and completely overpriced. The value for money is terrible, and the drinks were also too expensive. At least the toastie tasted good and was properly made; otherwise, this place would have been a complete disaster. Faster service, larger portions, and less rip-off tactics – then this place could actually be something.

Don’t rely on this place being open in the morning. We cycled here on a Saturday morning in July thinking it would open at 10am (as listed on Google and on their menu). The doors didn’t open until 10:15, and they said the kitchen wouldn’t be ready until 11:30.

Checkpoint Charlie could be a wonderful place and a goldmine of a restaurant due to its location, but the lack of maintenance is noticeable and the minimalist menu puts customers off. On the other hand, the staff is very friendly and the coffee is very good.

I found it astonishing there how an owner could get so annoyed by people demonstrating a kind of electronic music, and let himself get so carried away by it that we couldn't even get something to eat there before sailing—astonishing what behavior

Visited for the first time, very friendly service. Since they do not have internet, you do need to make sure you have cash with you.

Great location to stop for a quick bite, and they don't just have toasted sandwiches, mind you – also croquette sandwiches, paninis, etc. Had a lovely time sitting there in the 30-degree heat, nice and in the shade.

Cozy spot right in the middle of the water on the dike between Lelystad and Enkhuizen. Good service, simple menu choices, nice place. Sheltered from the weather. Please note that you can only pay with cash or via Tikkie, as there is no or poor internet available.

Unfortunately, no beers, only non-alcoholic options. Simple menu with 2 or 3 sandwiches such as croquettes, toasted sandwiches, etc. The staff were friendly.

This restaurant just DOESN'T get it. We wanted to order at 1:05 PM, but the kitchen was closed. We wanted to order a Coke, but the Coke was sold out. Where does the Coke ever run out??? Cash only in 2026, come on. Service slower than slow. We left quickly. A shame, because there is so much potential in this cool location.

I've driven past many times and finally decided to stop by for lunch. I saw delicious omelets, schnitzels, etc. online. Unfortunately, only toasted sandwiches, cheese/ham sandwiches, and meatballs. It is also very cold inside. Even the staff are wearing bodywarmers.

The Checkpoint is closed at the moment, but taking a look around Trintelhaven is worthwhile. Tip: download the Engelen/Angels app to hear the music that used to be played on FM here. The app only works on the Houtribdijk.

Maps showed it was open, but the journey there was quite long. It was closed, though. Not ideal.

Our first Dutch snack bar in a long time. The food was good, the service very friendly. The most remarkable thing about this little restaurant is its fantastic location in the middle of the former Zuiderzee, now on the causeway between the Markermeer and IJsselmeer. If you're driving along that route: definitely stop here for a break!

Nice stopover between Lelystad and Enkhuizen. Friendly service. We discovered too late that you can't pay by card. They only accept cash. But luckily there was an alternative via Tikkie :)

Well, there's nothing hot to eat on Saturdays after 4 p.m.

We had to wait almost half an hour just for our order to be taken. Other guests who arrived later were served first. There was no structure. The toast we ordered was still not ready after about an hour. The kitchen was in chaos. Cleared dishes were lying around everywhere. I paid for our drinks and was dismissed with the words "I don't know what the problem is." What a shame about the beautiful place. They could do more here.

Payment is only accepted with CSSH. This should be better indicated on the website. Once you're already there, you can't pay by card. Nice terrace, but non-smokers are in the same smoke as smokers. There should be a partition between them. Inside, it's a kind of traditional Dutch pub, not very inviting. Drinking water is scarce. This should also be better indicated on the website. Especially useful to know if you're cycling along the dike.

To refuel with a snack and a drink after a tour of the IJsselmeer

Quite okay for something to eat and drink on the go. Quite expensive in comparison. Hygiene isn't always satisfactory on all days or at all tables. The occasional coffee spill or broken cup is served. A diesel generator roars throughout the day because the place isn't connected to the public grid. There are waterless restrooms on site. A beautiful view of the Trintelhafen escape port. Free parking is available. Lots of toys for kids are available. Friendly service!

Dramatic, the kids who are supposed to be serving... and they really have no idea what to do. We waited 20 minutes to order a cup of coffee. We tried ordering inside first, but that wasn't possible... someone was supposed to come. So we asked one of the younger boys, "Can we order?" No... I'll get someone... no one... After 10 minutes, the same boy (guessing he was 13 at most) came with a pen and paper... okay, maybe it'll work. After 40 minutes, a woman came... "What would you like to drink?" Yes, the boy made a mistake. Sorry, but blaming your "colleague"... We left. Terrible.

The location is great, right on the water. Otherwise, it's essentially just a snack bar with a patio. You can't pay by card, and the staff made a lot of mistakes. For example, they forgot to order our croquette and frikadel sandwiches.

Well... actually a mainstay on my trips to North Holland. After the restaurant was closed last year, I was really pleased to be back in the parking lot and was really looking forward to my "travel frikandel"... from then on, things didn't get any better, in fact, they even got worse. Having to remove the cobwebs from a garden chair is one thing; it's next to a hedge. But after a respectable five minutes of waiting—the place wasn't crowded—I went inside and asked, in Dutch, if you had to order inside. The answer was that it would come to the table. But it didn't. Cards were still being exchanged at all the other tables, only ours seemed to be lava. After another five minutes of waiting, we left. ... Too bad but you can't do anything

We sat on the patio...she kept cleaning tables around us. We went inside and used the restroom. No one was there. After another 5 minutes on the patio and no one approached us, we left and enjoyed a delicious coffee somewhere else.

The fries were delicious, but the iced coffee wasn't my cup of tea. The atmosphere was simple but nice. The service was friendly, but unfortunately, despite the moderately busy restaurant, we had to wait a long time for our order: about 30-40 minutes (2 fries, 1 sandwich, and 3 iced coffees). The generator behind the building was very loud; an electrical storage system and a PV system could remedy this.

Attention ‼️ Closed on Monday, July 7, 2025. Too bad there are no current opening hours posted. We stopped there for a quick bite; the view was beautiful, the service was friendly, the coffee was great...the apple pie was okay...worth a stop.

We stopped here on a bike trip and needed as break. Sadly, this is a CASH ONLY establishment so we couldn’t partake in the lovely food, smoothies and ice creams available, but the staff were lovely and let us sit in the shade for a while to cool down on a hot day. Recommended, but remember, CASH ONLY!

Review July 2025: It remains a wonderful place to moor with the boat. And yes, it took a while, but the Roadhouse is open again with new owners and a limited lunch menu. But having a bite is possible. Now ordering a Bal sandwich. Why? Yaaaaaaren ago, could be 15 years ago, you ate delicious gravy balls here. When you took a bite, the gravy flowed out of your mouth. They had already been removed from the menu by the previous owner. 😭. Today's bal sandwich was not bad, but it was not a gravy ball. But I will definitely come back. Oh yes, payment is cash only. The previous owner had finally found a provider (I think Vodafone) that had internet access. This one does not yet. Give them some time to start up and then they can invest in a Starlink subscription or even Vodafone. Oh yes, open from Thursday to Monday from 11:00 to 18:00 Review August 2021: so nice to be back here. Delicious pastries and coffee. Still friendly staff. But... There is expansion: now at the back a quick bite (fried food) for a friendly price to take away or eat on a bench. Very cool! Review 2020: Finally open again. You sit outside super cozy, but it is also nice to stay inside. Unlimited coffee and tea. Tasty dishes and very friendly staff. You can now also go to the Trintelhaven by boat. This is a refuge harbor without electricity and running water. You can moor on the side and anchor. Roadhouse Checkpoint Charlie is open from 10:00 to 16:00. Waited over 20 minutes for someone to take our order. No one. Went inside to order there. I'll be right outside, sir. Waited another 10 minutes. Still no order. She thought it was more important to clear tables.

Location is beautiful, but here they want to get rich very quickly. I had ordered fries with a frikandel for €8.50, which I thought was very expensive, but my expectation was that they would be freshly made fries, but it was just fries that you also get at the chip shop, and there was only 1 frikandel and not even one of a normal size but a size smaller if I calculated it like that, there was not even €0.75 cents worth of purchase on my plate and then a price of €8.50 It really takes courage to ask. We also had a white bun with omelette for €12.50. To avoid making the story too long, I will spare you the details of this sandwich, but it comes down to the same thing as what I wrote above. This tent is actually not even worth 1 star. The motto here is how do I get the money out of my guests' pockets as quickly as possible.

Nice roadside restaurant with a new owner recently, finally something is being done with the beautiful spot there. Service is good and affordable and now Cappucino. Things have improved a lot there. In short, highly recommended for many.

Excellent place! I came all the way from Lelystad Centrum by bike with water but not food, and when I finally arrived I was starving. There they where closing, however, there was a loving waitress who allowed me to order some fries (saved my life) so I could recover and come back. I would definitely come back, but this time with plenty of time hahahah
